Mixing runway trends into a college-friendly wardrobe. by Leslie Olson
YOURS TRULY HAS UNEARTHED SOME 2011 runway trends worthy of YOUR wardrobe: above all, the most popular look for the year of 2011 (as seen at the spring shows and remaining strong throughout the fall exhibitions) is ‘70s-inspired. Sheer delight, print-mixing pizzazz, and wedge wonderland were rampant on the runway this season—and they could work just as well in your closet as they do on the runway. Here’s how!
D N A L R E D N O W E WEDG Of all types of towering shoes, these are the most comfortable and easy to balance in! This 70’s style statement is the simplest to incorporate into your wardrobe, if not the most comfortable of the three trends! If you’re going for a tougher look, find a pair of black/gray wedge ankle- or full-length boots to accompany a sharp skirt, dress, leggings or skinny jeans. If you want the casual, summery seventies vibe, a pair of wedge sandals look great with skinny jeans and an artfully saggy T-shirt, or flares and a bohemian top with a cropped jacket. Espradilles, the type of wedge that has that macramae’d appearance, are most popular for the beach-happy. Pair these with a sundress and a bright outlook! P
T H G I L E D R SHE E

This trend poses the greatest challenge of the three aforementioned—you may feel as though you’re in one of those “went to school naked” dreams upon attempting the look. The simple solution is to wear a garment underneath the sheer garment (typically a shirt is easiest to pull off), with just enough coverage to avoid scandal. A spaghetti-strap top/simply cut sleeveless top of similar color to the sheer item provides necessary coverage. Black is the most conservative and elegant choice for sheer clothing. If you want to be a bit more risqué, try wearing a plain sports bra or cropped camisole underneath the sheer shirt, tucking it into a high-waisted skirt to avoid belly button exposure, and throwing a cardigan over the ensemble. If you like the sheer look but are still leery despite my excellent suggestions, you can find blouses with sheer sleeves, sheer scarves, and even sheer cardigans!
PRINT MIXING P
IZZAZZ
This trend takes a bit of bravery and practice. Start small—use scarves and belts of varying prints to contrast with cute blouses and dresses. Stick to around two prints. Proportion matters—pairing a leopard-print waist-cinching belt with a floral-print sundress provides just enough contrast. (Leopard print pants worn with a floral top would be a different story.) Observe the color scheme of the two prints: it’s easier to combine prints if they’re proximate on the color wheel. Tried and true mixers: florals with florals, leopard with florals, leopard with stripes, stripes with florals, or polka-dots with any of the above (seriously—Dolce and Gabbana did an entire collection mixing leopard and polka dots! See image)! Image source: Guardian UK

Front Page Fashion With an increasing accessibility to news online for free, many of us have a tough time justifying shelling out that 75 cents for a daily newspaper. Of course, you can recycle the print as wrapping paper or puppy potty training, but why not use the paper to amp up your outfit? Follow these easy steps for eco-friendly designs that will make your look worthy of the front-page!

Paint on a base coat of nude polish to your nails. Working quickly while the polish is still wet, carefully place tiny torn-up pieces of newsprint randomly over each nail. Using a toothpick, roll down the edges of the newspaper and secure them to the nail polish. Seal with two coats of clear polish. Allow drying for 10-15 minutes.

Get Savvy GetCyber Cyber Savv Navigating online discount retailers. by Laura Marrinan
ONLINE SHOPPING HAS BECOME NEARLY a necessity in today’s fast-paced society. We can order shoes while we wait in the airport, pick out a new jacket while we Skype our friends overseas, or even decide on the perfect pair of birthday earrings for your sister while sitting in class. Then, after you pick your new wardrobe, you get slammed with shipping charges, making it even more important to be able to hunt down the best digital deals! Here are a few of the best sites every cyber-savvy fashionista should know!
Rue La La is perfect for shoppers who love the thrill of competition. They offer deeply discounted designer merchandise is short spurts each day. After you sign up, you’ll be able to see the list of brands that will be involved in the upcoming sales. The sales typically last 2-3 days, but once an item is sold-out it’s gone for good. A perk beyond designer clothing and accessories: if you’re lucky you’ll be able to snag some high-end make-up or even a trip to the Dominican Republic from the site! Ruelala.com

Boutiques will be your go-to site any time you’re in a shopping slump, need some inspiration, or are just simply bored out of your mind! First you take a style quiz outlining your fashion likes and dislikes, from color to fabric and styles to designers. It then forms you perfect fashion profile filled with shoes, accessories, and outfits catered toward your personal preferences. They’ll provide you with inspiration from other it-girl’s boutiques and show you items on sale that will fit in seamlessly with your current wardrobe!
Dresses for big events can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Rent the Runway has a revolutionary way of combating this problem: rent those thousand dollar dresses to girls for a weekend at a fraction of the cost and never let the dress go unloved! They have everything from floor-length Dolce and Gabbana gowns to Herve Leger bandage dresses available for fractions of their original price! Each client simply picks her event date and occasion, and is able to score a $2,000.00 dress for $200 for the weekend! The best part? None of these dresses just waste away in your closet, they get to go out and party every weekend!

The Art of Being Chased 5 tips from a guy on improving your game by Matthew Meyers
feature: i’M TIRED OF THE WALLFLOWERS, ladies, and I know most of the other fellas are too. What bugs me even more is the bland passivity, when I know that some of you want that cute guy to come talk to you. So, I’m going to give you five quick and easy tips that should offer some help. That way, next time you’re out wondering why there aren’t any hotties taking the bait on your sexy dress, you’ll have a backup plan. But please, before you go on any further, just admit to yourself you might have to play the game a bit.

dating advice
Put yourself out there
The eyes are indicators Women have extremely powerful eyes. I always thought that’s why the makeup worked so well. Use those eyes! Once you see someone you’re interested in, make eye contact with them. Once you lock eyes, consider pausing for a moment before looking away. This is the part where you scan each other. If you like what you see, make the scanning somewhat apparent. This is an excellent and subtle method of expressing interest. Next, wait and see if you catch them looking back. If they do, repeat the process and get a bit closer.
This is the key, because it’s how you get the ball rolling. You don’t have to walk up to a guy, but it would help if you did a little ground work. Standing in a crowd of friends makes you unapproachable. No man is going to step into foreign territory, so put yourself into someplace contested. Leave your group of besties and stand solo at the bar or near a shared space wherever you are. By doing this, you put yourself on the radar and you will appear approachable.
Start with the immediate If you end up speaking with someone, do not rely on cliché questions to do the work for you (I don’t want to talk about my major or job within the first 5 minutes of meeting someone). You’re going to have to think more than that. Instead, make conversation about what is around you. What music is playing? Do you see what that person is wearing? What are you drinking? Questions like these will bring out their natural and immediate responses, and so give you a good feel of the person. Also, it immediately creates a common bond as you both observe the same environment together.

dating advice
The “be right back” moment After some time has passed, consider saying that you will be right back. This short break can be helpful for two reasons. First, if conversation gets stale or you don’t like what you’re hearing, taking a moment in the bathroom or back near your friends gives you a second to think about whether or not you’d like to continue. Second, leaving for a minute can be enticing for the guy because it gives him a little bit of uncertainty. This might provoke his true interest and make him come after you. Or, if you come back, it provides relief for the guy and shows him that you are interested.
Close the door This final tip is an overall power move. If you think y ou’re going to have to leave eventually, you should be the one to walk away; don’t let him walk away. Avoid standing around, giving him all your time. You have places to be, and you’ve got to leave your audience wanting more. Let their mouth water. If you make the decision to say adios, it forces him to act. If you’ve made it apparent that you’re interest, then closing the door should bring him to ask for your number.
If you go through these motions, I guarantee you more success than you are having now. Making yourself a target, indicating your interest, and maintaining his interest should take you to the next step toward whatever you want. It doesn’t have to be a relationship or sex, it can just be fun. Nevertheless, you can’t just expect someone to do the work for you. It takes a combination of acting and restraining. A much older woman I dated once told me that this is called the art of being chased.

How to get the most out of your wardrobe and maximize your style when you’re living out of a suitcase. by Stephanie Audette WE’VE ALL BEEN THERE. It’s the night before that 6 am flight, and you’re sitting there staring at a big empty suitcase with no idea what to pack. Or maybe that’s just me. I always find myself putting off packing until the last minute, and then I’m scrambling to throw some outfits together. Vacations are supposed to be RELAXING, so don’t start one off by stressing over what to bring! Think comfort, practicality, and style. Experience has taught me that a little planning in advance can go a long way. Follow these tips and tricks the next time you go somewhere, and love the way you look in all those vacation photos.

Clothes Ask any seasoned traveler and they will tell you that overpacking is a big no-no and if you’re anything like me, you might struggle with this particular constraint. So when you’re tempted to bring along everything you own, resist the urge, and ask yourself if you really do need five pairs of jeans for a trip to Florida. Versatility is key to getting the most mileage out of the pieces you decide to bring. A black miniskirt that can be dressed up or down, worn alone or paired with tights, can go from day to night and won’t take up much room in your suitcase!

Don’t go too crazy with the footwear (did I just say that?!) Especially when space is limited, you’re better off using it for more clothes and just sticking to two or three pairs of shoes—flats, heels, and boots. While it may seem obvious, make sure at least one pair of shoes among those that you plan on bringing are comfy enough for those long, sight-seeing filled days. As someone who has trekked all over Paris, miserable in a pair of adorable, but not-socomfortable boots, I can assure you that your feet will thank you.
Hair When it comes to hair, keep it simple. Since you’ll probably be running around all day, snapping pictures of everything in sight, a braid or ponytail usually does the trick. Putting your hair up avoids that wind-blown look (for when the weather isn’t so nice) and let’s you skip the hassle of lugging a bunch of hair appliances around. Bringing a few cute headbands along is always a good idea for fixing a bad hair day, or adding that extra oomph to your ensemble. With all of the pretty, girly styles (think J. Crew) that have been popping up everywhere, the headband trend is hard to resist.

Make-up When traveling, it’s best to keep your make-up fresh and simple. No need to bring along your entire make-up bag—just bring the products you tend to use on a daily basis, like mascara, foundation, and eyeliner. Okay, throw in a few fun eyeshadow colors to amp up your look for a night out on the town, but don’t get carried away!

blogging
Bloggers:
software to softlines by Leslie Olson “Blog” is the biggest buzzword in the fashion industry today. Blogging has become the latest and greatest innovator of public relations, mass media, artistic collaboration, and marketing activities in fashion. The most widely-read current-day fashion bloggers have forged careers around their sites, forming partnerships with companies like Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue; becoming stylists/consultants for department stores and design houses; producing photography, artwork, and editorial content for fashion publications in print and online; and endorsing various clothing brands or designers. Examples? Tommy Ton of “Jak & Jil” has become Style.com’s go-to street style photographer, being paid to snap photos of the industry’s best-dressed—his work has caused the shift of focus from celebrities to editors, makeup artists, other bloggers, and designers; these “behind-the-scenes” people are the real fashion masterminds.
Perhaps the most famous blogger—and many claim he instigated the onslaught of blogging—is Scott Schumann of The Sartorialist. Scott’s incredible photography depicts street style in its basest form—he literally strolls down the street and snaps photos of passersby who inspire him. On his blog, Schumann writes brief descriptions of the depicted outfits and how they are relevant to fashion today. He has become another front-row staple, taking high quality pictures that reveal runway details to the masses like they’ve never been seen before. Photo Credit: Tommy Paris
Bryan Grey-Yambao, a Filipino fashion blogger, aka Bryanboy, was a former Web developer who, at age 17, was catapulted into the fashion world through his witty, highly energized blog, even garnering the attention of Marc Jacobs (there is now a Marc Jacobs ostrich-skin bag dubbed “The BB”). Bryanboy maintains a frontrow seat at Fashion Week, live streaming runway shows onto his site and providing links to crucial fashion news and other bloggers. Kelly of The Glamourai and Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere are two examples of retail collaborators—Emily consults for Beso.com and Kelly consults for Primary New York and freelances jewelry. Danny of Igor + Andre’s ethereal illustrations are plastered everywhere—his portraits of other bloggers are featured on their respective websites; his illustrations have graced the covers of magazines like TIME; and he has sold self-illustrated T Shirts in collaboration with designers,
along with tote bags for the recently established fashion-retail holiday, Fashion’s Night Out. The most successful bloggers not only have a perfect balance of written and visual content—they give their readers the opportunity to interact with them and provide feedback, in exchange for sweepstakes, giveaways, or just plain recognition. Bloggers capture the attention of their readers through their strongly developed individual style, along with their interpretation of current and historical fashion influences. Keep your eyes peeled when reading FAB magazine from now on—yours truly will be reporting to you with the latest and greatest from the blogosphere.

Blush Tones Nudes, neutrals, blush and rose. The look is the epitome of romantic, feminine beauty. If your style tends to lean toward a more girly esthetic, this is the summer trend for you. Play up the feminine vibe with romantic fabrics like lace, and velvet or add detail with scalloped hemlines, bows, and tiers. It’s a summery combination of sweet and sexy.

Red Haute This look blends two hot trends in one: crimson denim and the classic chambray shirt. Somewhat celebrity-inspired, the colored denim trend is not a look for the faint of heart! Choose a top in white, grey, navy (or chambray!) to keep the outfit as clean and simple as possible. As far as chambray goes: get one. It’s a perennial fashion favorite that everyone should have in his or her closet, ideally of the super cozy, slightly oversized variety. Get the look: (clockwise from top left) Draped blouse from 3.1 Phillip Lim, $375; red jeans by Miss Sixty, $159; Chambray 3/4 sleeve from uniqlo.com, $33; wedge sandals by Jeffrey Campbell, $120; Chambray snap front from Delias, $40; Ecote cross body bag from Urban Outfitters, $20; Sunglasses from Top Shop, $36; Button down tank from T by Alexander Wang, $140;

Pop Minimalist Fierce neons pop against understated neutral shades. Great with a summer tan, this trend brings together the best of both worlds for a look that’s sassy, stylish, and universally flattering. Invest in a few brightlycolored staples (tank tops, scarves, and accessories are simple) OR rock bright makeup or nail polish for a micro-dose of the trend. If you’re a fan of a bold look, neons and neutrals are for you. SOME WEBSITES THAT I LIKE THAT MAYBE YOU WILL LIKE, TOO By Kevin Tully
Notcot.org For anybody with an interest in design, art, and general great ideas, NOTCOT is a necessary site to check daily. It’s basically a collage of everything new and cool that people create every day – from furniture, to architecture, to photography, to art, to everything else under the Sun. Every link on the site is handpicked by webmasters and users for being cutting edge and/or awesome. Better yet, NOTCOT has a number of specialized sites catering to specific interests, such as fashion (“NOTCOUTURE”… clever!) and liquor (“Liqurious”) If you’re feeling uninspired in any way, NOTCOT may just be the creative kick-in-the-ass you need – bookmark it!
grooveshark.com I nearly wept in happiness the first time I stumbled upon GrooveShark. The first time you visit it, it reveals its identity as pretty much the best thing ever. Think of it as the Google of playlist/music-listening website. Whatever you want to hear – from Radiohead to Drake to The Beatles to Savage Garden (hey, no judgments…) – you’re gonna find it on GrooveShark.
Simplynoise.com If you’re like me, you need distraction levels to be around absolute zero in order to achieve anything. So, instead of zooming over to GrooveShark, you may want to head to SimplyNoise.com. Pick your fave kind (or “color”) of ambient noise, put on your headphones, up the volume and listen to beautiful nothingness as you crank out that fifteen-page paper you’ve been procrastinating in record time. Trust me on this one.
MINT.com Mint is a free money management website that you attach to your bank account(s). Sounds boring, I know – and it kind of is – but it’s incredibly useful. It tracks every bit of money you make/spend and puts it in pretty little charts and graphs. You can also set custom goals, such as “Buy a car!” or “Don’t Spend More Than $200 A Month For A Year!” and have Mint track your progress the entire way. But beware: Mint isn’t afraid to be all “STOP IT, YOU’RE BEING BAD!” if you’re frivolously wasting away all of your money. It’s kind of like an annoyingly honest, holier-than-thou friend in that way. Love, Kevin

Birchwood Café An eatery whose quality of food rivals the modesty of its location. by Emily Palecek
DRIVE DOWN RESIDENTIAL 25TH STREET AND YOU’LL Drive down residential 25th street and you’ll notice something out of the ordinary two-story home: a thriving café lit with string lighting and a constant stream of patrons. This buzzing café holds true to its neighborhood venue and translates this exact ideology to the food that they serve. Birchwood prides itself on serving “good real food”, providing its customers with local, organic and sustainable ingredients. I visited this restaurant on a Thursday evening with my roommate, rekindling my love with the quaint café. My only critique of Birchwood is the ordering process, which grants you limited time to make a selection, as the menu is perched on the wall and the customers keep filing in. White walls accented by red, green, and blue accents, the café holds a funky and cozy vibe that adheres to an eclectic base of patrons. To my right was a group of six 30-something-women, to my right a trendy couple, and across myself were a middleaged husband and wife. The wait was reasonable, considering the capacity of café and the amount of people spilling in on the Thursday evening. After reconsidering our “water only” choice, we re-ventured up to the glass lined dessert and drink case and picked Virgil’s micro brewed root beer that was worth coming back for in itself. About ten minutes later our food was on our table, and our forks were in our hands. Our food’s presentation was amazing alone; I could definitely sense the love they put into their dishes--I was almost too afraid to eat it! Digging in, my Winter Vegetable Handpie was a dome of puff pastry that cocooned a basket of moist roasted squash. The dish was drizzled in white cheddar and onion pear chutney, and overall the delicate pastry, rich squash and savory onion made for a fabulous meal. I was also impressed by the refreshingly simple salad: a slice of a blood orange and feta cheese over a delicate spring mix. The café is also known for its fabulous selection of desserts, ranging from apple cobbler, lemon cheesecake, and peace coffee éclairs, I honed in on the Meyer-Lemon Truffle Brownie--molto buono.
Hours: Weekdays 7am-10pm; Sat 8am-10pm; Sun 9am-8pm East 25th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406-1412
Birchwood gives off the home-away-from-home vibe, whether you’re looking for a first date location supplied with wine and beer or a casual study spot equipped with free wi-fi and topnotch coffee. If you’re in the neighborhood (or not!) snag the handy side-street parking and step inside--with affordability, local and delicious food, and the overall authentic atmosphere, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for.

What 1. happened to courtesy? 5 EASY tips to happiness & likability by Summer Jackson THERE IS ONE PARTICULAR ICY DAY that stands out in my memory. I was waiting for the campus connector to arrive, and when it finally came, I took my time to carefully step over the gap from the sidewalk to the bus. Then, out of nowhere, this guy pushed me! I nearly did the splits and ripped my favorite pair of jeans! To make things even worse, he didn’t even apologize, he just shrugged it off and took his seat on the bus. Unfortunately, unpleasant encounters like these are increasingly common. It doesn’t have to be that way! Here are five things you can do to be more courteous and likable on campus:
2. 3. 4. 5.
GIVE HANDSHAKES WHEN THEY’RE DUE. The handshake has always been a way to show someone respect, but nowadays it’s all but forgotten! Take the time out to shake someone’s hand as a hello, a thank you, or a goodbye.
GET REALISTIC WITH YOUR TO DO LIST. We’re all guilty of procrastinating – it’s a part of being a college student, but don’t let yourself get too far behind. Give yourself an extra hour to get work done; you’ll be happier later.
COMPLIMENT A STRANGER. Have you ever gotten the occasional stare from someone in class or wanted to approach someone but weren’t sure how? Be daring and make the first step! Compliment his or her attitude, clothes or smile.
BE PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING. Nobody likes a boring person and being passionate about something can make life easier or more enjoyable. It can be as simple as picking up a pencil and doodling or as challenging as taking up running.
OFFER TO GET SOMEONE LUNCH. We’ve all gotten stuck with work around lunchtime, don’t eat, gorge ourselves and feel bad later. If you know a friend or a classmate is busy, offer to get them lunch or a snack.
being courteous is always in style!
Weekend OutďŹ ts Outfits that multi-task as much as you do. by Shannon Murphy
WORK
TRYING TO DRESS FOR THE OCCASION in Minnesota springtime is not an easy task. We are going from snow to rain and from class to happy hour while trying to look fabulous during the whole transition. How to shift outfits from day to night, and from professional to sexy, can be very difficult with limited time and budget. We have included tips on how to use a few of your favorite items in different ways that can give you completely different looks from day to night. Here are some examples of how to make four adorable outfits for a stylish spring weekend.
This outfit is adorable for work and allows you to wear your casual clothes in a professional way – without fading into the black and grey tones of the office. The shape of the skirt and conservative blouse makes this polished and appropriate. Sheer, textured tights and tan pointed toe heels are simple yet unexpected.
CLASS
Creating variety with staple items is key. To make any school outfit work you just need the essentials: dark skinny jeans, a patterned top, light trench jacket, and booties. You can use both your winter and spring tops to layer and create outfits that are fashionable yet comfortable for class.
GOING OUT
Think about using varied graphics paired with simple accessories, which results in a feminine yet edgy look. The tan patterned tights are used again with an electric blue pump. Adding a pop of color with your shoe adds instant glamour for a night out. Try these Spring/Summer color trends such as peach or electric blue.
FABulistas “FABulistas” is FABmag’s monthly showcase featuring some of Minnesota’s most fashionable individuals. Want to see yourself here? Submit your outfit photos to fab.publication@gmail.com. We look for attractive photography, interesting outfits and above all, great personal style.
Who or what inspires your style? Sneakers. Sneakers are the reason my heart beats. I am constantly looking for a new funky pair. Once i’ve found those, i will build my outfit. I’m a statement kind of girl, and my statement is my sneakers. What are your favorite spring trends right now? Loving the color gray! Typically always stick to black because I can be creative with chunky necklaces, bracelets or my sneaks. But the color gray this season has really caught my eye! What is your favorite trend this season? I’m just happy we’re progressively moving towards a more global style- grabbing looks from the European fashion work, a lot of their styles appear effortless. Love it. What are your favorite places to shop? LF located in Boston, MA for incredibly cute tops. Bodega and Zigi for out of control sneakers. Macy’s and Forever 21 for my daily basic tops and bottoms. Who’s your favorite Hollywood fashion icon? Gwen Stefani. On a casual day you’ll find her rockin a pair of skinnys and a serious pair of kicks. LOVE IT.

letters from the editors Pure giddy excitement. The start of summer is the annual time in life where motivation, ambition, and all the other things you preach during interviews and the daily grind, completely shut down - and do so deservingly. I hail from an obscenely small town in central Wisconsin. Yep, the secret’s out. So when I get giddy about summer, I’m wrapped up in bonfires under a million stars, city-wide festivals with garage sales, mini-carnivals, live music, a parade or two, and tons of food being sold by students or old people all raising money for their group. I’m thinking of hours with nothing on the agenda but sunshine and a potential beach grill out with volleyball and some boys. So where am I going with this? I have absolutely no idea. But that’s the best part of summer is it not? Taking the absolutely necessary yet directionless time to ponder and play. I think it is all about balance. There is going to be 9-5 jobs – whether that’s AM or PM – and there is going to be classes, and there is going to be kitty fights and boy drama and rent and parents and graduation parties of people you don’t know, or wish you didn’t, and there’s going to be less than sunshine weather and days when the heat and humidity makes you wish it were winter again – annnnnd maybe not. But the beautiful little factoid about summertime is that, regardless of the day’s content, it’s still summer. Make this time about you. And what you need. It’s not selfish – it’s happy and makes you a better person if you know what you want to be doing and where you want to be. Whether it’s creating something, going to fairs, working hard, hitting every rollercoaster park in the Midwest, getting the guy, getting rid of the guy, or pretending guys don’t exist at all, take some time laying in the sunshine to decide what would make you the happiest for the next three months. Then, make it happen.

You guys. It’s summer. Do you know what that means? No more 8 strikethrough 11am classes, group projects, or final exams. it’s officially the beginning of sandal season (and, consequently, a teeny tiny three-month hiatus from the FABmag team). It’s time to open up our closets and pull out those denim cut offs, floral print skirts, and flip flops that have been hiding all winter! Can you even stand it? I can’t. I love summer fashion. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and sexy. It’s effortless. And it affords me the precious opportunity to wear a different dress every day of the week. What does this have to do with the magazine? Not much. ...Except for the fact that it’s about me--the editor-in-chief OF this very publication. I mean, don’t you wish Anna Wintour would just write a little bio in her May letter from the editor that would be like “I enjoy large sunglasses, extra-hot, double shot venti americanos, and making people cry”? Amazing, right? In honor of Anna, and the beginning of summer, that’s what I’m going to do. Five Random Things About Editor-in-Chief Liza Mazyck 1. My list of style icons is a mile long. An abbreviated version: Nicole Richie, Liv Tyler, Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Zoe Kravitz, and Mila Kunis. 2. A few of my favorite things include: foursquare, Grey’s Anatomy, frozen yogurt, leopard print, Sun-In, rainbow sprinkles, Minnesota, beachy waves, Black Swan, collages, BBMing, and ampersands. 3. With the exception of dainty necklaces and earrings, I have a thing for statement jewelry. Especially rings! The YSL Iconic Arty Oval in turquoise currently tops my covet list. 4. I have a voracious appetite for life. If I’m not doing a million things at once, traveling to new places, or having new experiences, something is not right. I can’t remember what it’s like to not be tired, but I also can’t remember what it’s like to feel unfulfilled. It’s trade-off. 5. I’m obsessed with everyone on the FABmag team, but have an especially soft spot (...awkward) for Editor Rah Riley, mostly because we’ve bonded over the last-minute writing of these very letters. To reiterate, IT’S SUMMER. Go get sun-kissed. We’ll see you in September. XO
