Fabric Bow Assembly
Ribbon Bow Assembly
1. Serge the edges of your fabric rectangles. Take one strip and make a loop about 6” long and another one the same. You should have half the strip left as a tail.
1. Create small loop with the end of your ribbon, this will be the middle. Pinch between your thumb and forefinger.
2. Bring the right loop over the left loop.
3. Cross the left loop over top of the right loop.
4. Tuck the left loop through the bottom of the right loop.
5. Pull your loops tight to create a bow. Cut your long tail and repeat with the other strip.
27 | Handmade Holidays 2020
2. Pull the tail of the ribbon to the opposite side and make a loop with about 7” of ribbon. Bring the tail to the back of your middle loop, twist it so the good side is shown and make a matching loop on the other side.
3. Repeat this step going side to side until you are happy with the fullness of your bow. We did 3-4 loops on each side.
4. Once you have finished your loops create your tails by making one long loop and cutting the tail up behind the middle loop.
Tree Assembly 1. Trace the bottom of your foam cone on the wrong side of your green fabric. Add 1” seam allowance around the circle and cut out.
2. Glue the base of the cone to the wrong side of the fabric. Tuck the edges up and glue, pleating as needed.
3. Place the selvedge of the fabric on the seam of the cone and glue down. Roll the cone tightly to wrap it in fabric. Glue to the foam cone down 1”. Trim excess fabric leaving 1” seam allowance along the edge. Fold the raw edge in against the cone to create a folded finished edge. Glue in place.
4. Twist your top piece and tuck into the side seam. Remove excess and glue in place. Remove excess from bottom of cone leaving at least 1” seam allowance. Fold in the seam allowance to create a folded finished edge. Glue in place.
https://blog.fabriclandwest.com
Gnome Assembly 1. Using the pattern provided on the blog cut out one hat from your plaid flannelette.
2. Fold right sides together and stich with 1/4 seam allowance, or glue.
Wreath Assembly 5. Pull the basting thread to gather and stuff with polyfill.
1. Attach your fabric bows using floral wire or twist ties to 2/3 of the wreath.
6. Pull the basting thread tight and tie a knot to secure. 2. Attach your tree and gnomes to the bottom of the wreath with glue.
7. Attach the hat, beard and nose to the foam ball
3. Turn the hat right side out.
8. Repeat to create your second gnome.
3. Attach your ribbon bows using floral wire or twist ties. Start with the bottom of the wreath, filling in gaps and then move down to create an oval.
4. Using the pattern provided on the blog cut out one nose from the beige felt. Run a hand basting stitch around the edge.
