In this issue of Fabrik, we hope to convey the excitement of being in LA for the launch of the fall art season—a blockbuster this year, coupled as it is with the roll out of Pacific Standard Time: Latin American & Latino Art in LA. This iteration of the broad-based Getty initiative is particularly meaningful here and now—in a city where Latin art and culture has historically played such a vital role, and at a time when that community seems to be under siege. Also inside is an array of analytical commentary on select exhibits and players in the LA art world, along with an appreciation of the life of Los Angeles gallery owner and champion of the arts, Greg Escalante, by painter F. Scott Hess.
