The company designs and produces: Special cylinders and ISO standard hydraulic cylinders for the industry and for mobile applications. The diameter of the cylinders range from 20 to 1000 mm and the strokes are up to 20 metres. Applications for rugged environments with integrated transducers are also available. High-pressure cylinders (up to 700 bar). Pressure intensifiers. Manifolds with integrated valves. Hydraulic power units. Automatic machines and machine components connected to hydraulic cylinders. Based on its deep knowledge of the operation of hydraulic presses, the company was able to focus on the design and construction of one essential component of these presses: the hydraulic cylinder. Over the years, Icop Hydraulics has introduced a new production line of automatic machines for processing diamond industrial tools. The company facilities are state-of-the-art, with a 3,000 m2 covered area and outfitted according to the quality requirements by the ISO 9001:2008 certification, issued by RINA. Icop Hydraulics is located in an area with a high density of universities. The company staff has a high-level technical background. The company plays an essential role for several companies looking for components and hydraulic cylinders that perfectly meet their requirements. These companies operate in diverse fields, including the naval, military, drilling, mining, lifting, construction, earthmoving, ferrous material recovery, iron and steel and automation fields. The supplier network of Icop Hydraulics is integrated in the most important Italian industrial district of machine tool manufacturers. Icop Hydraulics aims at creating the difference from average constructors. To this aim, Icop Hydraulics relies on hydraulic cylinders able to yield a higher performance compared to the competition. Thanks to the combination of cylinders with double acting automatic pressure intensifiers, its customers can create higher performing machines with reduced environmental impact and running costs.

Icop Hydraulics is a private owned manufacturing company, located in Northern Italy by Piacenza. The company was established in 1978 with the aim of applying innovative hydraulic technologies to machineries.

To us quality is an opportunity The performance and reliability of our products depend on the accuracy and technologies used during the checks. To us quality is an opportunity. This is the reason why the technologies we employ for testing our hydraulic components are more advanced than the ones used by our competitors. We perform continuous scan dimensional controls and threedimensional geometric controls. The centesimal grading tolerances on couplings and concentricity need to be strictly complied with to ensure performance above the standard.

We are able to manage extensive quality control plan for the qualification of international classification society (LLOYD’S REGISTER, RINA, DNV, ABS, BV, CCS). Tests we can perform: Mechanical tests on raw materials (traction, resilience and chemical composition tests). Non-destructive tests on welds (ultrasonic tests, radiographic tests, magnetoscopic tests, die penetrant tests).

The future means having the courage Our vision is to increase the performance of hydraulic applications, achieving very low friction with no leakage. Our actuators for high frequencies follow sinusoids without distorting them. To this aim, we use segments and special seals (speeds up to 4 m/ sec and frequencies up to 30 Hz).

According to this new hydraulic concept, it is essential to increase the pressure in order to reduce the weight, while remaining competitive. This is why we have integrated pressure intensifiers in the cylinders. They increase the power of the cylinders without changing the standard pressures of pumps and pipes.

We are currently developing a system able to reduce the weight of the cylinders. The idea is to make new applications possible by using new composite materials that ensure a lighter weight compared to conventional steel having the same performance.

We are currently focusing our studies on hybrid actuators. This has allowed us to combine the high speed, low noise and sustainability of the electric actuators with the high power and compactness of the hydraulic actuators.

Production & Productivity Ours is a productive heart. The entire design and production cycle is carried out internally by means of advanced machines. The machines are based on a CAD CAM process and programmed through wireless networks. The extreme flexibility of this process allows the production of prototypes and limited quantities. The machines can process special high resistant steels with complex machining profiles, used for hydraulic cylinders for heavy-duty applications.

APPLICATION AREA

Presses The development of the hydraulic sector has always been linked to the field of the presses. Above all, in the continuous cycle production lines, the main cylinders are strained by pressure, speed and fatigue cycles. Icop Hydraulics machine tools are able to produce large sized cylinders (diameters up to 800 mm and strokes up to 15,000 mm), fitted on presses in the most diverse production areas. The productivity of the press depends mainly on the size and performance of the hydraulic control system. In this field as well, pressure intensifiers help optimize costs and performance of the systems. An in-depth analysis is needed on the machine cycle to choose the most suitable intensifier, evaluating for example, a single-shot intensifier with electrical switching.

Foundry & Steel Industry Foundry workplaces are characterized by high working temperatures with heavy work cycles and a lot of fine siliceous dust. These workplaces are among the most critical and heavy in the industrial sector. Cylinders operating in this sector must be particularly resistant to high temperatures, dust and corrosive agents that can be deposited on the rods and reach the drive fluid.

Innovative fluid power

For this sector, Icop Hydraulics offers standard version cylinders in accordance with ISO - 6022. These unwelded round head cylinders are fitted with seals for high temperature fluids and hardened rods. They can be supplied with internal position-transducers and limit switch sensors signalling the rod position. Special versions can be supplied on request, with interfaces and sizes dedicated to the equipped machine.

Construction & Earthmoving Machinery Construction activities are based on ever more sophisticated processing machines. Steering system, arms and suspension are constantly strained, especially in quarries and on rough ground. Our customers can appreciate the robustness and performance of Icop Hydraulics products. Our strength comes from processing on multi-tasking machine tools that guarantee flexibility even on low production lots. We offer a higher competitive advantage, particularly for cylinders to be fitted on medium-large processing machines.

Demolition The demolition sector is one of the sectors which most benefit from the innovation introduced by ICOP HYDRAULICS new products. Hydraulic cylinders applied to demolition crushers have always been subject to strong loads and pressure peaks.

The sudden failures of demolished material and the strain generated by the arm of the processing machine cause frequent breakages and untimely losses on hydraulic cylinders. Icop Hydraulics has implemented new productive technologies and material treatments that ensure hydraulic cylinder durability, reducing machine downtime. In addition to these advantages, we have developed new high-flow automatic pressure intensifiers, able to increase the performance of the crushers to which they are applied. On this particular intensifier, the intensity and speed of the pressure peak has been increased in the multiplying phase (850 bar peak with further 700 bar of static pressure); this feature facilitates the structural failure of the materials in the demolition phase.

Besides improving the machine performance, the use of pressure intensifiers in the demolition phase allows reducing the cylinder diameter with a subsequent weight reduction and working arm increase of the processing machine.

Overcoming the forces of nature Human activities by the sea require products having higher performance compared to standard products. The open sea environment enhances corrosion of cylinders. Our experience has led us to select the best anticorrosive materials and surface treatments available. Our competitiveness is linked to maintenance cost reduction and to technical solutions aimed at increasing the reliability of all our components. The design and production of components that we supply in this sector are subject to the approval of the most important international certifying bodies (LLOYD’S REGISTER, RINA, DNV, ABS, BV and CCS).

These are cylinders designed and built to work in harsh environmental conditions. They are normally applied on mobile means that move in damp or sea areas, under great strain and with impurities; temperatures can go from -50 C° to +150 C°. Materials with several features are used for the production: E355 – AISI 316-431-630, SAF 2205, TITANIUM. The choice of material is made according to the mechanical resistance required combined with the resistance in salt mist that can reach 1000 h according to ISO9227 NSS.

Military field

When reliability is vital Icop Hydraulics has searched special solutions with top performance for the military applications. Military mobile vehicles typically work in harsh environments and require mechanical locking systems in addition to the standard hydraulic locking systems. We have developed stabilizing cylinders and pointing cylinders equipped with mechanical locking systems added to the normal hydraulic valves. Our components meet the current international standards and are provided with the relevant certifications.

Hydraulic cylinders with rod lock device

Through an external hydraulic pilot, it is possible to lock or unlock the stopping device to allow the cylinder rod to restart. The precision and accuracy of their production, favours the use of these cylinders in all workplaces in which further locking safety is needed compared to normal hydraulic locking of the cylinder chambers.

Double-acting hydraulic cylinders with bi-directional rod lock devices are made to guarantee the position retainment through a retaining mechanical device. A device, able to retain the cylinder rod in position is inserted on the front head of the cylinder.

Mining & Drilling Underground mining requires excellent machines with top performance. Using our cylinders represents a great innovation in this sector. We can supply cylinders fitted with integrated pressure intensifiers. Percussion, digging and drilling activities are made easier by these extremely powerful actuators. The materials, mechanical couplings and treatments we use guarantee operation of the 700 bar cylinder using the common inlet pressures of the hydraulic systems (200 bar). Low-pressure standard cylinders are as well treated with the same care. Reliability and maintenance cost reduction represent our competitive advantage.

Long life cycle for energy saving The great demand for raw materials, generated by the growth of developing economies, has made this sector increasingly important. Hydraulic cylinders applied on these machines are constantly put under pressure, subject to pressure peaks, great radial loads and impacts. Icop Hydraulics has implemented materials, couplings, seals and surface treatments dedicated to this sector. Our cylinders equip scrap lifting grippers, hopper closurefeed cylinders and cutter command cylinders. Implementing pressure intensifiers improves the functionality of the machine, optimizing pressures and hydraulic system flow.

The industrial sector requires low friction cylinders and the possibility of integrating measuring sensors and control valves. Icop Hydraulics produces both special cylinders and standard cylinders in compliance with the ISO 6022, ISO 6020 -1 and MIL standards. These cylinders are made to meet the most demanding requests of modern industrial applications.

Innovation of the hydraulics in the industrial field means achieving higher pressures and speeds as well as lighter weights. This is possible by installing pressure intensifiers in the hydraulic cylinders without need to modify the pressure of the hydraulic systems. In some applications it is possible to eliminate the hydraulic system by implementing electro-hydraulic hybrid linear actuators with hydraulic boosters in a closed circuit. 1 7
