Very Easy Knit in One Piece Cardigan Yarn Any yarn may be used for this cardigan - but you need to do some math. The pattern is written for medium heavy 3-4 st per inch yarn. Shown on front of card in Blue Sky Multi-colored Cotton, Marmalade. Tools #9 Single Point needles, 1 Lg button, stitch holder, tapestry needle. SIZING 9 months (18 months, 3 years) Finished chest 24 (26, 28)” GAUGE 15 sts = 4” approx) (3.55st per inch) (10 cm) in garter st (k every row). STITCH EXPLANATION ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip the next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to the right needle; insert the left needle into the fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog to decrease 1 st. SWEATER (worked in one piece from Back hem edge) Cast on 45 (49, 53) sts. Work in garter st until piece measures 4 (4 1/2, 5)”. Beg Sleeve Shaping using increases Inc 1 st at each end of every RS row 18 (20, 22) times for 81 (89, 97) sts. Note Piece should measure approximately 9 (10, 11)” from beg. Add on stitches to create cuffs at end of sleeve Cast on 8 (8, 10) sts (by knitting into last st, return new st to left needle and so on) at end of next 2 rows 97 (105, 117) sts. Work even in garter st for 3 (3 1/2, 4)”. Note Piece should measure 12 (13 1/2, 15)” from beg. Shape Back Neck & Divide into left and right fronts Next row K 40 (44, 49) sts and slip onto a holder for Right Front, bind off next 17 (17, 19) sts, k rem 40 (44, 49) sts for Left Front. Work Left & Right Fronts of Cardigan Left Front Continue even on Left Front sts for 4 rows. Inc 1 st at neck edge on every RS row 3 (3, 4) times 43 (47, 53) sts. Next row Cast on 2 sts at neck edge 45 (49, 55) sts. Work even for one row. Next row Cast on 6 sts at neck edge 51 (55, 61) sts. Finish cuffs Work even until cuff at edge of sleeve measures 6 (7, 8)”. Bind off 8 (8, 10) cuff sts 43 (47, 51) sts. Begin sleeve shaping using decrease: Dec 1 st (k2tog on Left Front; ssk on Right Front) at side edge every RS row 18 (20, 22) times 25 (27, 29) sts. Work even until Left Front is same length as Back. Bind off all sts. Count ridges on Left Front and place 1 button at top of Left Front opening edge. Right Front Attach yarn to Right Front sts at neck edge. Work to correspond to Left Front, rev shaping and working buttonhole to match placement you require as follows. Work to 4 sts from end of row, (k2tog, yo) for buttonholes, k 2 (Front opening edge).
