Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013
Women Entrepreneurs of America On behalf of the citizens of the City of Cleveland, I would like to congratulate Women Entrepreneurs of America as they celebrate their 11th year of service in Cleveland. Women Entrepreneurs of America has continued working to empower and support disadvantaged women in business and provide resources to those who want to start their own business. To aid in this mission, the Women Entrepreneurs of America are releasing their first edition of the Entrepreneurial Magazine, which will feature stories of the women they are assisting. As Mayor, I appreciate the contributions of those featured here and thank the Women Entrepreneurs of America for sharing their stories. Each of the people in these pages and their achievements are important to our vision for the City of Cleveland – a city where everyone can participate fully in economic prosperity, where strong neighborhoods invite residents to live and raise their families and where there is a strong sense of community. Again, congratulations to Women Entrepreneurs of America for their accomplishments and contributions to the Cleveland community.

Business Breakthrough: Bust That Clutter! By: Sheila Hawkins
As we enter the final quarter of the year, most business owners are looking at the things they want to do to finish out the year and many are playing catch up after the summer fun. As you gear up for Q4 are you stepping back into the same old thing and the same old routine or are you making a shift and taking things up a notch? Has it been your intent to take things to the next level or to get certain things done but you just can’t seem to make that happen? If so, take a look around your office. What do you see? Is your workspace well organized or are things in disarray and cluttered? If it’s the latter, consider that your workspace is part of what’s holding you back. Over the years as I’ve worked with clients one of the things that I learned early on is that clutter is a product of what’s going on with you physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. In essence, you are your clutter and your clutter is you and it can be keeping you from making that breakthrough to the next level.

Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013
If your workspace is cluttered you may have noticed how it makes you feel when you’re in it. You can’t think clearly or focus, you may not feel like sitting

Business in the area with the clutter or you might even feel heavy when you’re in the space. All of these things are caused by the clutter in the space. When you have physical, emotional, mental and spiritual clutter, it produces a cluttered space. This means that the thoughts, relationships, beliefs, and yes, even excess weight each contribute to holding you back. It keeps you moving at a snail’s pace or allows you to stay right where you are, stagnant and unable to move forward even though that’s not where you want to be. Your breakthrough and the things you just can’t seem to get done are placed on hold due to your internal clutter. To get rid of the clutter in your space, you have to address the internal clutter in your life. Doing so is what keeps the clutter in your space from coming back after you clear it.
When these internal connections are addressed it’s possible to get rid of the clutter and keep it away for good. In addition to looking around your office to see what’s there, look inside to see where your internal clutter resides, then take the steps to figure out why it’s there and resolve those issues. As you do, you will find that it becomes easy to rid your space of clutter and keep it away instead of clearing it and having it come back again. Get to the root of your clutter and clear it so that you can have that business breakthrough during this last quarter of the year. If clutter is a real challenge for you, visit www.ItsNotAboutThePaper.com for a solution.

Affordable Care Act:
Info For Small Business Owner Information From www.healthcare.gov The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) is a new program that simplifies the process of buying health insurance for your small business. For 2014, the SHOP Marketplace is open to employers with 50 or fewer full-time-eqivalent employees (FTEs). The advantages of using SHOP include: -You control the coverage you offer and how much you pay toward employee premiums. -You can compare health plans online on an apples-to-apples basis, which helps you make a decision that's right for your business. -You may qualify for a small business health care tax credit worth up to 50% of your premium costs. You can still de-

duct from your taxes the rest of your premium costs not covered by the tax credit. Beginning 2014 the tax credit is available only for plans purchased through SHOP.
Compare plans and apply online
The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) is designed for small employers with 50 or fewer full-time equivalent employees. With one online application, on your own or with the help of an agent, broker, or

other assister, you can compare price, coverage, and quality of plans in a way that's easy to understand. Health coverage through SHOP starts as soon as January 1, 2014. You can enroll now and begin coverage any time after January 1, 2014. You decide what you'll pay toward employee premiums, and then your employees can enroll.
There will be a SHOP Marketplace in each state. You must have an office or employee work site within the SHOP's service area to use that particular SHOP. The online application will guide you to the right SHOP for you.
How to know if you qualify for the SHOP Marketplace
In 2014, SHOP is open to employers with 50 or fewer full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. Beginning in 2016, all SHOPs will be open to employers with up to 100 FTEs: If you're self-employed with no employees, you can get coverage through the individual market Health Insurance Marketplace, but
not through SHOP. If you plan to use SHOP, you must offer coverage to all of your full-time employees–generally those working 30 or more hours per week on average. In many states, at least 70% of your full-time employees must enroll in your SHOP plan. See “How many of my employees must enroll in SHOP?” on the dropdown menu below for more information. Apply for SHOP coverage right now. You’ll be taken to a page where you pick your state. Then you’ll be taken to the right website to continue. Have questions about the SHOP Marketplace for businesses with 50 or fewer employees? Call 1-800-7067893 (TTY users: 1-800-706-7915). Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST. Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013
The definition of an entrepreneur is a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so. This basic definition has been redefined by a woman that has not only taken the leap of faith of starting her own business, but has also reached back to many others to help them succeed as well. A “Modern Day Harriet Tubman” is an accurate adjective to describe how she continues to go back and help those on their journey to professional freedom! Ms. Yolanda LamarWilder founded the Women Entrepreneurs of America, Inc. in November, 2002 in Cleveland, Ohio. Inspired by her own personal and business experiences in the corporate sector during the 80’s and 90’s, she set out to design an organization based on what she wished had been available to her. Yolanda’s business style is bold and up front and her leadership qualities are inspirational. Women Entrepreneurs Of America, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit membership-based organization that empowers and encourages women to reach their fullest potential in business. For over 10 years now, this premier business women’s organization has been guiding and supporting women in the pursuit for business success. The organization offers a balanced range of “membership activities” which are supported by educational services including
workshops, seminars and consulting services. Through monthly business luncheons and forums, outstanding self-promotion and networking opportunities are made available, and more importantly, encouraged. The ignition of trade between members is one of the organization’s most recognized and valued features. On joining Women Entrepreneurs Of America, Inc. you instantly tap into an extensive network of business and personal contacts and an environment that is supportive of your personal business goals. Women Entrepreneurs Of America, Inc. continues to grow and lead the way as to be one of the most respected and valuable resources for women in business today.

IOS App Development For The Enterprise: A Few Golden Rules To Follow By: Andrew V Mark
Businesses today want to gain the maximum from alternative platforms like digital and mobile platforms. Over the past few years, the mobile space has proved to be lucrative for many businesses since it is not just cost-effective but is also far-reaching. If you have set up your business not long ago or whether you are looking for a professional app developer for the iOS platform, then there are several parameters to adhere to before to assign the app development work to a particular developer. Even before you assign someone with the app development project for iOS platform, you would want to know how the application development procedure functions so that in the future, you do not have depend on third-party app developers every time you want a new app for your business.
18
Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013
Technology Though you may not give a serious thought to it, but it is always beneficial to get yourself or your core teams trained with development process and also get acquainted with the app development protocols and terms that will eventually enable you to run your organization or business in a smooth and a profitable manner. Before you begin the enterprise app development for iOS platform, it is essential that you get a real picture of your needs and expectations. It always helps to chalk out what you wish to achieve with the development of a particular app and what steps will you take apart from process to accomplish that goal. It is a good idea to maintain a flow chart. If you are keen to hire a skilled, professional team to design apps for your business, then it will be greatly beneficial to get a detailed listing of all database locations. When developing iOS apps for your enterprise, you should factor in all security protocols and also verify if there are certain aspects of the app of information that need to be kept confidential while using the app. While developing the app, the main objective should be that it is user-friendly. Keep in mind that tablet and smartphone apps primarily exist to simplify various business-related processes and also make them efficient and convenient, rather than complicating them. Your target audience
will not spend more than a few seconds to unearth what the app is all about. Similarly, if the app does not provide something constructive or unique, no one has the patience to download and install the app on their device. You should not try to redefining the development wheel. If you realize that you are investing a lot of time to input data that has already been automated to enable a smooth flow for your app, then start looking for shortcuts. You may not be aware of it but there are several tools that do not even necessitate development experience which can be accessed easily to locate existing databases. If you are directly involved with the app development work and feel that the deadline is nearing with no significant progress, then waste no time to bring in some experts with relevant experience who can speed up the task. Education
Online Marketing Education for Business By: Phil D Smith
Many small and micro businesses need more sales but don't have the in house expertise to market their business effectively. Buying in outside advice and support is often not an option in difficult economic times leaving business owners with the option of either doing nothing or doing it themselves using whatever marketing education online resources they may be able to find. For a business owner who chooses the do it yourself marketing route this article discusses the various online resources that are available and their relative strengths and weaknesses. It is assumed the owner has limited existing expertise in marketing. Many Universities and large education establishments offer distance learning modules in marketing. Although some is free or low cost the majority is relatively expensive and often targeted at achieving some sort of qualification - not what most business owners require. The Chartered Institute of Marketing and other professional organisations do offer a wide range of material to help small businesses (mostly free) via their websites.
20
Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013
The major problem with the major education establishments and the professional bodies is often their background and focus is on marketing for large organisations and for mass consumer markets. The experience of the people working and writing for these organisations is not generally in the small and micro business arena and the information is often either based on what works for large organisations, or very general in nature and of little use. What is needed is good quality information and education written by people who have actually been there and done it at the small and micro business level. Luckily, content marketing is important to a wide variety of organisations and as a result there is a vast amount of marketing education information available online. The challenge is to sift what is good information from what is not. Blogs are one potential source of information on how to market a small business effectively. There are many online, many written by people who have come out of big business and now attempt to apply their skills to the small business arena. The best ones however are written by a growing underclass of people (many without a formal marketing education) who have grown successful businesses using online marketing from nothing and now share information via blogging and other routes.
Another source of marketing information and also advice and support are a number of sites focused specifically on small businesses. Most of these sites do offer good quality information for free but make their money from associated mentoring and coaching which can be expensive and beyond the range of many businesses. Other online marketing education for business sites offer good quality information at relatively low cost but they expect the business owner to navigate the large amount of information available and apply it themselves without support. Which ever do it yourself marketing route may be taken the key to success is ongoing commitment and consistency otherwise the marketing process will almost certainly fail. There is little doubt any business owner going it alone on marketing will need to invest a significant amount of time in both securing marketing education information online and applying it to achieve success. More information on do it yourself marketing and online marketing education resources can be found at http://www. businessadvisernortheast.co.uk/ support_17.html Article Source: Online Marketing Education for Business

W.E.A. HEROS
Charles W. Wilder, Jr.
Honorary HERO of WEA By: Yolanda Lamar-Wilder
As we sit here on the verge of the release of the inaugural issue of the 1st Ever publication for Women Entrepreneurs of America, Faces of WEA Magazine, I felt compelled to speak on Women Entrepreneurs of America ~ WEA's Male Component, HEROS. HEROS grew out of the natural spirit of companionship and support existent between men and women since the beginning of time. I mean I'm talking since Adam and Eve occupied and trekked the landscapes of Mother Earth, a kinship of support and companionship was formed that exists until today. So its only natural that an organization that was founded for the empowerment of women in business would have the support, help and backing of men. The axiom "behind every great man is a great woman" that is applied to the countless number of success stories in business etc, can definitely be looked upon as being synonymous with its' sister expression, "behind every great woman lies a great man". My feeling is that the spirit of companionship and support that exists between the sexes is nothing more than the natural order of things, the way that God Almighty intended things to be. Women Entrepreneurs of America {WEA} was formed out of the incredible passion of its' incredible Founder, Yolanda Lamar-Wilder, to help and empower women less fortunate than herself, and to nurture their entrepreneurial aspirations into realities of success. It was my honor to be present during WEA's birth and inception, and it was out of Yolanda's spirit of companionship that WEA's male component HEROS was born, and I would also like to note for the readers of this missive, that both of these components were birthed at the same time. So to put things in a nutshell, WEA was founded to help and support women, HEROS was founded to support and mentor, women and men, with the end result of both women and men alike assisting each other during their entrepreneurial journey in business.
26
It has been my honor and privilege to serve both WEA and HEROS as one its' Honorary founding members, and I will continue to do so with honor and pride. Alas, just like God Almighty intended for things to be, don't you think? Faces Of WEA Magazine - October/November 2013

Inspiration
Taking A Step Forward Requires Using Your Own Legs By: Angel Regis-Felix As I sit here debating my angle on this most inspiring piece, I am quickly reminded that SUCCESS will not occur if we all remained immobile and didn’t take that STEP forward and deliberately pursued it relentlessly. Taking a step forward requires using your own legs, catchy title don’t you think? No, you cannot pursue your goals and dreams via someone else’s. No, visualizing yourself into realizing your purpose in life without actually stepping out on faith and being ACTIVELY active and involved in the process is NOT going to effectively produce any results. Being actively involved in pursuing your purpose in life does require you getting outside all the wonderful ideas in your head, getting off the couch of PROCRASTINATION and using those legs of yours to hit the ground running as fast and as hard as you can. You will never, ever know your true worth or strength if you insist on being a spectator in your life while surrounding yourself with the same elements that propelled or encouraged you to the same position you were this time last year. Perhaps it is time you really asked yourself those hard questions of whether or not YOU really want to succeed
or just a factor in your own self-sabotage? I know this may sound harsh or, I dare say, feel like the sting of the raw hard truth, but life is real and the truth of the matter is not doing anything and expecting something in return is the harsher truth. Doing the same things that you did last year this time and expecting a miraculous revelation in your purpose-filled pursuit will either awaken your consciousness and have you realize that if it didn’t
produce any results then it’s time for a change. If you were just as inactive in that process then I am sure you understand that change and success will not occur. Do recognize that a SHIFTING is constantly occurring whether you are active or not, but staying active and driven within that shift will allow elements to help stir you in directions that will aid you in your journeys. Remember, a rolling stone gathers no moss. Continued Blessings and Stay Mobile!

“This is a very informative.....very well writen book! I originally purchased it for my daughter and ended up buying another copy for my self. As a fellow entrepreneur, I loved the information and motivation.... as a fellow writer, I loved the personal her stories add! Definite must read!” “Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down. I finished it in less than 48 hours! I am so inspired by Yolanda's story - her experiences, life obstacles, and success are what make her an expert (and a trusted one at that). There are thought-provoking questions, catchphrases and lessons in every chapter that will stick with me forever. What a great book filled with sound, useful information for everyone, male and female. Yolanda knows her stuff and she is so gracious to share her knowledge with everyone!”
