Annual Report

The Center for Faculty Educators (CFE) provides community, mentorship, recognition, career growth, and skills development in teaching and educational scholarship to the faculty and staff committed to innovation and excellence in health professions education.

The CFE takes pride in the work of UCSF faculty, fellows, residents, and students towards improving education and advancing education research and scholarship. CFE"s annual report highlights contributions to excellence in health professions education at UCSF.

A YEAR IN REVIEW

Through direct contribution, mentorship and support of the UCSF educator community, the Center for Faculty Educators continued to advance education research, develop and celebrate health professions educators, and demonstrate our commitment to addressing bias, structural racism and make headway toward anti-racism.

INNOVATIONS FUNDING 2023 – 2024

Innovations Funding awards for the 2023-2024 academic year. Totaling over $336,000, these intramural grants address a range of priorities in teaching and learning approaches and curricular content areas and are expected to make significant contributions to educational excellence at UCSF.

The call resulted in strong proposals for which we sought and identified additional sponsors including Academy-based and Matched Endowed Chair holders, Center for Healthcare Value, Department of Ophthalmology, Office of Graduate Medical Education, Program for Interprofessional Practice and Education, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the School of Pharmacy. COOKE AWARD FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING 2023

The Cooke Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning was established in 2007 to recognize outstanding scholarly works presented at Education Showcase.

All submissions to Education Showcase were eligible for these awards, which are accompanied by a certificate and honorarium. Top-scoring projects were nominated for the award following a blinded peer review of all abstract submissions. Award winners were determined by a ballot in which Scholarship Committee members ranked the blinded abstracts, excluding those in which they were involved.

VA FELLOWSHIP IN HEALTH PROFESSIONS EDUCATION EVALUATION AND RESEARCH

Provides two years of formal training and mentoring in education scholarship with a focus on projects within the San Francisco VA. The goal of the fellowship is to develop experts to advance healthcare education through practice, inquiry and improvement, with a special focus on program evaluation and education research.
