Moving to New York from Jamaica aged five was a revelation. “The snow was better than I imagined,” he recalls. “As soon as I saw it, I ran outside in my pajamas.” A keen horticulturalist, his love of the outdoors and vibrant colour are met in his cultivation of hydrangea and geraniums. It’s one facet of his continual quest for beauty, which he believes is all around us. He works to advocate expression and inclusive beauty practices. It all started with his mom’s magazines and watching her apply lipstick as blusher. Since then, he’s been showing people how to reveal their innate beauty and enhance their most unusual assets.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Romero here is a list of questions that you would like to answer and some information about your life, career and inspiration for our readers about the direction that beauty is going.

TRENDS:

Classic is going back to basics and realizing the power of traditional makeup with an emphasis on placement. Bold red lip or graphic eye liner, but done in a more wearable and relatable way. This look is more about storytelling and visually delivering a mood. Show (OSCAR DE LA RENTA/ NEW YORK)

Accessorized is about adornment and an experimental simplicity. The feeling of living in a modern painting with organic but elegant elements. Embellished with noticeable adornment, metallicgilding, color and textures. (show GIAMBATTISTA VALLI/ PARIS)

Glossy is a refined ease of luminosity and glow. Heathy skin is the main feature that’s meant to stand out. It’s about amplifying hydration and shine. Show (AREA/ NEW YORK)

Shaded is a redefinition of glamour that reveals individual beauty and plays with light and shadows. The introduction of layered, muddy colors that are strategically placed to create an attitude of simplicity and ease.

Show (CHRISTOPHER JOHN ROGERS/ NEW YORK)

ADVISE:

YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE / WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE GO TO BASICS FOR EVERYDAY

I love a good lightweight skincare routine with easy application and immediate results.

I use the M·A·C Volcanic Ash Exfoliator to polish, refine skin’s surface and minimize pores, followed by M·A·C Fast Response Eye Cream for depuffing and

hydrating. In the summer months I keep it in the fridge for a soothing and refreshing wake-me-up.

Next, I hydrate my face with M·A·C Fix + Magic Radiance which is made with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and essential oil. It relaxes my skin and creates a burst of hydration immediately.

I follow up with the M·A·C Prep + Prime Essential Oils by applying to the high points of my face (cheek bones & brow bone) to plump and brighten my skin, and tap M·A·C Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone to mattify the t-zone. I always finish off with M·A·C Lip Conditioner and brush my brows slightly with Eye Brows Big Boost Fibre Gel.

15 MIN MUA FOR THE PERSON ON THE GO.

Here are my quick tips for a 15-minute makeup application.

Hydrate with M·A·C Fix + Magic Radiance hydrating spray

Mattify t-zone or oily areas with M·A·C Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone

Apply M·A·C Studio Fix 24 Hour Smooth Wear

Concealer to minimize imperfections and use M·A·C #286 Brush to diffuse.

Powder entire face with a light layer of M·A·C Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation using a M·A·C #139S Brush.

Curl lashes with M·A·C Half Lash Curler for an eye brightening effect then add M·A·C Extended Play

Gigablack Lash Mascara

Prime lips with M·A·C Prep + Prime Lip primer then add my favorite nude-toned M·A·C Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour in Date Maker. This color is universal and looks great on every skin tone. Line your lips with M·A·C Lip Pencil in Spice for lighter skin, use M·A·C Lip Pencil in Cork for medium skin tones, and M·A·C Lip Pencil in Chestnut for deep skin tones.

If you are wearing a mask, just blot twice before you put on your mask. You will be surprised how long this formula stays put!

PALLETS THAT YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE AND WHY

M·A·C Art Library Palettes are everything. Most makeup artists are carrying these 3 palettes backstage and everywhere they go as there is a palette dedicated to nude shades (Art Library: Nude Model), one for warm toned hues (Art Library: Flame-Boyant), and one for bold colours (Art Library: It’s Designer) each offering 12 shades with varying textures. Launching in Spring of 2019 and now part of M·A·C’s permanent lineup, I use and feature these palettes on my social media pages often since the variety offered can be used to create looks for editorial, occasion, or natural day-to-day. These palettes allow you to design multidimensional looks and even have colors that can work as blush, contour, and highlighter.

Here are a few of my must have products for all ages, all races & all genders:

M·A·C’s products are loved by all ages, all races, and all genders. I love that I can use the same product on a young model backstage as I use on my own mother. The versatility, product formulation, assortment, textures and shades available truly work for all, it just comes down to preference!

Everyone needs to get their hands on M·A·C Fix + Magic Radiance which is a hydrating water that smooths and replenishes skin with ample hydration.

A new lip staple is M·A·C Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour which will keep lips hydrated and last all day with buildable coverage, available in a variety of 17 gorgeous shades.

M·A·C Prep + Prime Lip is meant to condition and prime lips for long lasting application but is equally great as a standalone product.

Get selfie ready in seconds with M·A·C Studio Fix SPF 15 Foundation (available in fluid or powder form), an iconic reliable product that delivers buildable coverage.

FACE-OFF

“I love every part of the face. I enjoy watching the way the muscles move under the skin as someone is talking to me! I love evaluating the face shape and thinking about ways to enhance and perfect the features through highlighting and sculpting with Hush Cream Color Base, Pink Opal and Tan Pigment, but the first M·A·C product I fell in love with was the colour eye shadows. I particularly like the shades Saddle and Chrome Yellow. I’m a big believer in colour, probably because I was born in a warm, bright country.“

A BRUSH WITH FAME

“I started working for M·A·C almost 20 years ago at the Henri Bendel location. Diana Ross would often come in and she would always complement my hair. One day she asked where I went to get it done. I told her and two weeks later she was back with a shoulder length style. She told me she had just come from my hair person!“

A BOY/GIRL THING

“Wearing makeup is a great confidence booster for men and women and can be undetectable for everyday life. Fast Response Eye Cream is my must-have pick for everyone! It is boosted with caffeine, which invigorates and exercises the eye area to make it more youthful, firm and hydrated. I think that this miracle eye gel works amazingly on guys and girls.“

dehydrated areas of the face if added to your daily or nighttime routine.

M·A·C Studio Fix 24-Hour Smooth Wear Concealer will cover stubborn uneven skin and blemishes with ease when applied with M·A·C #286 Brush. There is a color for every skin tone on the planet!

M·A·C Dazzleglass will give you that disco sparkle finish that commands attention.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

I am extremely proud of the number of covers I have shot for major magazines around the world. It’s really tough for me to pinpoint one highlight or achievement, this said I am definitely grateful that I was able to shoot with legends such as the artist Christo, Helmut Newton, Meg Ryan, Jeffrey Wright, Salma Hayek, etc. The art series that I did with Tyra Banks was also definitely another big highlight!

When did you first fall in love with art?

My brother was an art student and he was very influential to me, introducing me to painting, sculpture and photography very early on. I remember sometimes sneaking into his room and looking through his fascinating collection of books and magazines.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

A lot of my inspiration comes from my favorite place on earth, New York City. It was love at first sight and this love affair is still alive many years later. I live and breathe NY, it inspires me every day. No matter what the current problems and challenges are, New York will always be New York.

You specialize in both fashion and beauty photography. What do you love about captur-ing flawless headshots and beautiful garments?

I have always loved art, beauty and fashion. Even as a child, I was already fascinated with beautiful Hollywood stars and absolutely loved playing with my older sisters Barbies’, dressing them up in all these amazing outfits. Hahaha, I guess I kind of made that my profession.

What has been your favourite camera to shoot with and why? Vintage or modern?

I mostly shoot on a Canon 5D Mark IV and I love it! It’s an amazing and versatile camera. When it comes to incredible digital quality for very large exhibition prints I preferably use Phase One, the highest resolution digital camera system in the world. If you ask me about my favorite camera of all time, it’s my vintage Mamiya

U D O S P R E I T Z E N B A R T H

comes close to her.

As a creative, you must have tried various techniques and skills when perfecting your art. Are you still learning/discovering new ways of shooting and creating?

Absolutely! I love learning, discovering and experimenting. I think if you stop being open to learning and experimenting, you stop being creative.

Has your vision/style transformed or evolved over time? FADDY Mag 88
Tyra Banks

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

It definitely has changed and evolved a lot over time. Even though I think part of my vision has remained consistent, it’s like a base to build on.

You have worked with many successful stars such as; Tyra Banks, John Legend, Meg Ryan and Salma Hayak to name a few. What has been your favourite celebrity to shoot? Are there any other celebs you would love to work with?

It’s really difficult for me to pick out one particular celebrity as my favourite. I worked with a lot of remarkable people, and each one of them has something unique and inspiring they bring to the table. However, if I do have to select one, I would go with Tyra. We both really enjoy working with each other and every time we do, something special comes out of it. Over the years we have shot 11 international Cosmopolitan covers together, as well as many magazine editorials and an exciting art project called Tyra 15.

You have created numerous striking images and works of art over the years. Do you have any one

image or shoot that remained a personal favourite? If so, why?

I think just like a good parent doesn’t really favour any of his / her children, an artist doesn’t favour any one piece of his work. They are all special to him in their own way.

We would love to hear what you are currently working on? Are there any exciting new projects you have coming up?

I am actually doing the pre-production for a big ad campaign shoot at the moment. I can’t really reveal any details as of yet. All I can say is that I will be shooting and video directing a Hollywood royalty, an A-list star and I am extremely excited about it!

Artsi

Jerusalem born Artsi Ifrach is a fashion designer who is better known as Maison ARTC in fashion world. Artsi has found his sanctuary in Morocco on his quest for independence and has been actively creating his “one of a kind” collections since. Artsi – meaning ‘My Country’ in Hebrew and Arabic –lived in Tel Aviv, Paris and Amsterdam before settling in Morocco and has an extensive understanding of multiculturalism. Using colours and prints as his landscape, Artsi’s imaginative designs reflect on space and time. From his childhood memories to the memoirs of nomad. He starts fashion designing at the age of 28 while he was living in Amsterdam. After that return to Israel and a long the way was chosen to be one of the most influence designer on the last 100 years of Tel Aviv. From there he move to Paris presented by 2m Bureau showing in the Houte Cuture week during 5 years in form of installation. Today living and working from Morocco in Marrakech, his parents hometown, where he also collaborates with locals photographers such as

Laila Hida and Mous Lamrabat, with Mous he create an artistic duo call @artsimous, a collaboration of photography that tells the story of cultural crossover, the inspiration come from a source of culture history and art.

The state of mind is to keep the picture as something timeless that states long after the collection is done. “I believe that fashion is a part of art that tell something about us thought a period that meet culture and individuality”. “I am totally autodidact, I am not working with designing skills, I am working just with creativity and intuition.”

Like his own perilous his design go to the roots, to the memories. His influence come from history, culture and traditions. He is searching on the past to carry on the future.

He is known for his richness, colourful and eclectic style.“I am trying through material that surrounding me to create a story that capture culture, memories, artisan work. The source of the material that I am using

are vintage and handmade.” “I create my pieces with a total freedom, from the state of mind I have at that moment. The point is to be respectful of the past, of the culture and bringing something warmer. In my pieces I want to create a memory that moves me emotionally. Vintage fabrics can match past and present together. Colours, patterns and prints are my landscape”.

Napoleon said once “there is a thin line between the ridiculous and the sublime”, I am searching this line every time in every piece.

I am always thinking what we would like to have, that we do not have yet as a result, I believe that the strongest part we all have is our individuality. That is what I am trying to do with “one-of-a- kind” pieces as we all are “one-of-a- kind”.

I imagine a look to create an attitude. It belongs to every woman to find out her own path of self confidence.

I don’t stop dreaming, I live it every day, I don’t think I could do it if I stop dreaming.

Walt Disney said “all our dream can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”

The good news is I have the courage. My name is Artsi.

DIVERSIFIED

The Art of GEORGE RODEZ

"Enjoying the Countryside", acrylic on canvas, 14" x 18" Portrait Installation “Mon Petit Piaf”, Photography by Carlos Manuel Cardenes on next page: Portrait Installation “Possessed”, Photography by Javier Calvete Garcia

George Rodez doesn’t always paint what people want or expect him to paint, but rather his paintings tell him what they want to be. In the words of Pablo Picasso, Rodez believes, “the painting is stronger than me, it always gets me to do what it wants” and “a painter is a man who paints what he sells, an artist, however, is a man who sells what he paints.” Rodez is an artist who believes that transition and flexibility are necessary elements for an artist to grow.

George Rodez was born in Manhattan, New York on March 20, 1957. Soon after, because of a family illness, he was sent to live with his grandparents in Havana, Cuba. In 1960 he was reunited with his parents, and even though he enjoys traveling and exhibiting around the world, he is proud to call Miami, Florida his home.

Although he began his career as a mechanical engineer, art has been his passion since the age of thirteen. He now dedicates himself solely to painting and since 1992 has displayed much of his work throughout various museums and galleries nationally and internationally. In 2005, the Florida Division of Cultural

Affairs awarded Rodez an Artist Enhancement grant to promote his art internationally. As a result, Rodez has exhibited in: Florence, Italy; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and in Spain seven times, including at the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona, while participating in international exhibitions throughout the United States.

Rodez is a self-taught artist whose strength is his diversity, allowing himself the freedom to create multiple bodies of work, each vastly different from the other. In his experiences with his mother’s mental illness, including multiple personalities, Rodez observed that each personality had a different strength and function, each serving a unique purpose. Rodez has taken that lesson and incorporated it into his art, with each body of work providing him different experiences and allowing all his personalities to show through. Rodez insists that an artist must explore the infinite possibilities with which he is presented, and is compelled to use his artistic creativity to the maximum potential, never giving in to stagnation. He believes that as human beings, we are all very complex in our own unique way and we should share with others our many characteristics and emotions. He states that to live life is to feel all of these emotions and we should use them as tools to help us live a fuller, richer, and more complete life. Rodez lives through his paintings in this very same fashion.

Rodez enjoys and believes in participating to help the community by making art contributions to raise money for charitable organizations. On November 21, 2006, former Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen recognized Rodez and stated “The dedication shown to the arts and your involvement in fund raising for charitable organizations through your generous art contributions is truly commendable.” Some of the organizations Rodez has contributed to most recently include the American Red Cross, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, National Kidney Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the list goes on with over 150 organizations having benefited from Rodez’s art contributions.
