ABOUT ME
My life is divided into 3 cities (Barquisimeto, Beirut and Boca Raton), 2 languages (Spanish and English), 4 main skils (writing, research, design and conceptualization) and a dymanic relationship with architecture and art, so I have acquired high adaptation abalities that have helped me overcome every obstacle yet.

The coalition of the dynamism of skateboarding and the static display neceassary for retail results in a wide range of spaces that incite both movement and rest within the users. The design conception was derived from the meandering trajectory of a moving skateboard. As opposed to being divided, the inherent dimensions of the site were further elongated to emphasize this unique condition, which provided with appropriate spaces for skateboarding, retail, a design studio and a residence.

SITE ANALYSIS Analyzed through different lenses, the site requires a thorough understanding of its sound levels caused primarily by the proximity to the train tracks, its geometrical consitituents in the legal division of land and the building footprint, which at instances does not follow its legal boundaries. The analysis was conducted in order to further understand the needs and desires of those who spend visit Atlantic Avenue and might be potential clients.

PROGRAM The first floor is a stake shop containing display space, storage, and loading/unloading areas. The second floor is designed for the studio and woodshop where the skateboardas are designed and produced. The thrid and final floor is the residence for the shop owner. The residence is design along a long corridor that is wide enough to accomodate the bathroom. The beroom faces Atlantic Avenue and has a private stair that leads straight to the first floor for highest accessibility to the room from the street.

CONCEPT The design conception was derived from the meandering trajectory of a moving skateboard. As opposed to being divided, the inherent dimensions of the site were further elongated to emphasize this unique condition, which provided with appropriate spaces for skateboarding.
PROCESS In order to fully understand the three-dimensional qualities of folding and unfolding planes, physical model iterrations were created. The direction of the planes had to both flow seamlessly and also invite the passing public into the building.
The structure consists of planes that seem to wrap around space with sections that unfold to create an interplay between the outside and inside. These areas are both designated for skateboarding further blurring the edge that separates the private and the public and; therefore, encouraging street walkers to easily flow into the store [as if riding a skateboard].

SCHOLAR HABITATION
Professor Fenneck Spring 2012
Located in the center of FAU’s Boca Raton campus, the project is designed for various levels of interactions with both the users and those who pass by due to the curious juxtaposition between the program [a private residence] and the site [a public courtyard]. The structure contains a range of enclosures that allow or block visibility, noise and access based ont he specific location in which you stand.

CONCEPT The inherent qualities of the location evoke a need for an adapted understanding of the sturctures interraction with the public. A systematic process for allocating points of visibility and potential thresholds was utilized to create the appropriate barriers [or lack of] to maximize privacy for the resident and utility for the public. Various levels of coexistence where desgined in order either encourage or discourage, depending on specific relationships, the interraction between interior and exterior spaces. CONTRAST Due to the hidden nature of the site, the structure is embodied in a visually contrasting approach through materiality and compactness of spaces. Yet, it is highly rooted in the procession of students taking place in the existing building.

SENSORY MUSEUM
Professor Van De Riet Fall 2012
The week charrette represents a study of the stratified ecosystems of the Everglades through the primary senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. The structure is composed of a series of elegant ADA ramps that cut through space and create both a separation of each senses and a coalition. Blending with the unique landscape of the wetlands, the ramps house various habitats for speical species of the Everglades, such as the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and the butterfly orchid.

Professor Camargo Spring 2013
Wynwood is a neighborhood that is currently being gentrified as it becomes a huge artistic hub in Miami, Florida. This process of renovation has left many of the original artists homeless due to the rise of housing values. The project proposes designated areas for artists to reside, create, exhibit and sell their work, while battling with the harmful effects of aerosol in spray paint, which is the most common medium used in the iconic graffiti walls of Wynwood.

A MACHINE FOR LEARNING
Professor Thitisawat Spring 2015
In order to create ‘a vessel of knowledge’, an intuitive reaction to discover the most effective learning mechanism lead to a thorough study of the Learning Brain. This was the subject of an obsessive research endevour that forms the core of this project. The human learning mechanics can be simplified to the term ‘brain plasticity’ or ‘neuroplasticity’, which is the brain’s ability to physically change by reorganizing itself as it forms new connections between brain cells (neurons). The project provides atmospheres that encourage the development of neuroplasticity and therefore, learning. ‘“Once you stop learning, you start dying” -Albert Einstein

PROGRAM
LEARNING
PROGRAM The evolution of the human race is solely dependant on the evolution of the human brain. The size of the human brain has increased, since our first ancestors, by almost 80%. The last time the human brain experienced a substancial growth was many years ago, when men began creating art in caves. This evolutionary fact is the basis from which the programmatic essense of the building was derived. In order to encourage and facilitate learning, the program is composed of the 4 learning processes that occur in the brain. (1) The brain must be fed information through an auditory, visual and kinesthetic approach, so materialization studios were designed. (2) This information is then processed and organized while we sleep, so sleeping chambers were implemented. (3) The only way to encourage neuron creation and longevity is through physical exercise, which can be accomplished in the emergence center. (4) Lastly, the brain can be further stimulated to enhance imagination and creativity, so a daydream lab was designed to accomodate such needs.

FORM Estereotomically designed, the form of the build hides its interior from the public, only to reveal it with grad splendor through a glass curatin wall that frames the 4 programmatic elements.

FLOOR PLANS The human learning mechanics can be simplified to the term ‘brain plasticity’ or ‘neuroplasticity’, which is the brain’s ability to physically change by reorganizing itself as it forms new connections between brain cells (neurons). The project provides atmospheres that encourage the development of neuroplasticity and therefore, learning.
B 03
EXPLODED AXONOMETRIC
Following the flexibility guidelines used by the brain when learning, the floow plans vary in dimesion and connectivity. This creates a wide range of spaces that allow for vast amounts of programmatic activites that can be implemented in the future, when the building becomes re-purposed.

PROCESS Since learning begins through the senses, the human-to-building interaction is crucial; therefore, the interior spaces were designed first. In other words, the project was designed from the inside out. Through rendered vignettes, specific atmospheres were created to encourage or enhance the four main learning processes. Then through a collaging technique, various combinations were designed in order to chose the most succesful composition and sequence of spaces, which gave form to the building.

LIMINAL DESTINATION
Professor Kaul Spring 2016
A sensory threshold in the Miami River, the project interlaces the dynamism of the Little Havana culture and the posh Brickell lifestyle, while attracting the large boating community that has revitalized the riveredge without disturbing the grundgy rawness of the once industrial zone. The idea is “...to re-create a place that existis mostly in memory; a liminal place, allowing the changes to coexist with the reminiscence of a past rich in Cuban culture, immigration, industrial dust, the river and the blend of these that create the iconic spirit of Miami.

The racial and economic barrier is broken. The project creates an interstitial destination where all can gather to reside, play domino, drink a ‘cubanito’, dock, consume fresh fish and exchange stories of traveling and localities. CIRCULATION The access to the site is both by land and by water. The marine flow is not obstructed by the structure and allows for ease in docking. The interior circulation consists of 2 elements; the open elevator and the public ramps, which serve not only as paths but as inhabitable points of encounter.

FISH MARKET Speaking to the large community of boaters, sailers and fishers that gather in Miami, the fish market also epitomizes the rawness of the industrial spirit that is still present in by the river edge.

CUBANITO ROASTERY Cubanito is a diminutive for the word ‘cubano’, which in this case refers to the famous cuban coffee, which remains a prominent social and cultural activity brought by Cuban immigrants many years ago.
PLAZA|PARK The plaza and park serve as an extension of the renowned Domino Park, located in the center of Little Havana. Once a public space, the park is now privatized, losing much of the spark that made it a magical neighbor encounter.
HOTEL The hotel aspect of the project is truly the cherry on top; making the site the ultimate destination for visitors...A fantasy paradise that submerges you in the beauty and realness of life.

ART PORTFOLIO
LIMINALME: PHASE 1 My art is a form of rejection to the rules and guidelines that have so rigidly directed me in my creative years of Architecture. It is an intuitive process where I try to disconnect from “the rules of art [such as composition, balance, symmetry, proportion...] that are supposed to lead to aesthetics. My work depicts a moment in my life or piece of my soul through the use of colors [mainly turquoise], textures, layers and marks. The mediums I use are acrylic, watercolor, ink, soft and oil pastels and the process is about combining the mediums with tools like water and my hands to allow myself to lose control and let the all these elements to come together organically and ugly in the most beautiful way!

MEDIUM The medium must allow me to lose myselft, to lose control, to lose the sense of place and physicality. They are watercolor, acrylic paint, ink, graphite, oil pastel, soft pastel and charcoal on 140 lb, 100% cotton watercolor paper.
TEXTURE The texture is a product of the mix of mediums, techniques and obsessive layering. It creates a juxtaposition and dialect between the fast marks with the slow, meticulous ones.
PROCESS The process is about combining the mediums with tools like water and my hands to allow myself to let go and let the all these elements come together organically and ugly in the most beautiful way!
