Lower Don Lands Development
“Cities seek a waterfront that is a place of public enjoyment. They want a waterfront where there is ample visual and physical public access to both the water and the land. Cities also want a waterfront that serves more than on purpose; They want it to be a place to work, to live, as well as to play. In other words, they want a place that contributes to the quality of life in all its aspects- economic, social, and cultural.
Toronto is a dynamic city that has experienced rapid changes, as a living organism, with major infrastructural arteries sprawling across the city’s waterfront postindustrial lands. Changing the mental and physical map of the city’s postindustrial sites, along its shore, has formed a new identity of Toronto.

The site formed an active industrial area until the 1980’s when much of the industry had moved, leaving the district mostly vacant. Existing Green Diagram

Urban Fabric Extension The concept of ‘Urban Fabric Extension’ describes the defining qualities of the urban environment; The interplay of built form, streetscape, open spaces, network of communication both visible and invisible, and the daily rhythms and patterns of city dwellers. Linking the waterfront necklace to the existing one will increase the length of waterfront edge for the city of Toronto along Ontario Lakeshore. Improving regional connections between urban networks within elements in the site and to the elements of the city beyond. The extension of the site, as an important piece of the urban mosaic of Toronto, is intricately interwoven within the existing city fabric. A great urban street and pedestrian promenade that connects mixed-use buildings cultural activities to each other, to new waterfront destinations, and to the city beyond. Verities of waterfront programs and activates located along the site edges to create a necklace of destinations that stretch for making the site more livable.

Rethinking La Chaudiere Island
The cultural history of Victoria Iskand and the Chaudiere Falls stretches back nearly 11,000 years and embodies the history of Canada. Located near the confluence of the Ottawa, Rideau and Gatineau Rivers the island has been a sacred site and meeting place for local indigenous communities for centuries. Despite being located unseated Algonquin lands, the Chaudiere Falls area and Victoria Island was also a enter for industrial development during the 19th and eraly 20th centuryand is still home to several buildings and ruins associated with ts rich industrial heritage.

THE CITY SCALE... The project site for this urban scale project encompasses the urban core of the city of St. Petersburg as a system; This includes the Central Business District, and the precincts and neighborhoods between I-275 to the west, 22nd Ave. N to the north, the waterfront to the east and 22nd Ave. S to the south. we worked as a team to develop and implement a vision of master plan that reflects the urban image and identity of the city, and expands the capability of its future to support new design ideas that provide verities of choices for all forms and aspects of existence in the city.

SWOT Analysis
In recent years, the city of St. Petersburg, FL has focused much attention on the waterfront, particularly on the redesign of the historic pier. Realizing the potential of the waterfront to reposition the city as an international destination, the city now is in the process of re-examining and re-envisioning the entire waterfront. But instead of limiting the focus on the waterfront as a destination, this project aims to critically examining the nexus between the waterfront and the city’s neighborhoods and landscapes, in two urban scales; city and neighborhood.

Curtis Hixon Park - Tampa, FL
Life Between Buildings
“The shapes and qualities of architectural spaces greatly influence human experience and behavior, for we inhabit the space of our built environment and not the solid walls, roofs, and columns that shape it.
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is located along the Hillsborough river in downtown Tampa, Florida. It is adjacent to the Tampa Riverwalk, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. Tampa Museum of Art, Glazer Children’s Museum, and Rivergate Tower. The park is in an area known as the Waterfront Arts District and includes fountains, a playground, a temporary skating area in winter, grassy areas, amphitheatre, dog park and outdoor sculptures. The park has been used as a venue for several festivals and events.

“Folding the landscape” as a concept was adopted in re-designing the target area. Parks a social function are places where people can meet and socialize, but these can’t be achieved unless we understand the intricate interplay of elements that makes public open spaces “live.” According to our observations and questionnaires, the site is lacking seats and shades in addition to other design features. The design concept was to fold the existing sloped landscape into a series of stepped-fields and shading elements to create a connection within the surrounding park activities.
