From one generation to the next…

The past few months have been bustling with activity here at Fagan & Whalley, giving us plenty to celebrate and look forward to.

But before we dive into that, we wanted to formally introduce ourselves as the newly appointed Managing Directors here at F&W - same faces, new roles! We’ve embraced these responsibilities to provide Graham and Stephen Fagan more flexibility in their CEO roles, as they felt the time was right to hand over the reins to the next generation.

We’re both eager and committed to steering the company forward - remaining true to our core values of heritage, people, technology and sustainability. Having achieved a great deal recently, we wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their unwavering dedication and commitment. That includes our friends over at Alan R Jones in Wales, too!

We couldn’t do any of this without you - and we can’t wait to see what the rest of 2023 has in store for us.

We hope you enjoy the read!

Updates from Zambia our donated truck is nearly ready to start its journey!

We’re thrilled to announce that the truck we have donated to the Industrial Training Centre (ITC) in collaboration with Transaid is now in its final stages of preparation to start its new life in Zambia.

Having been a reliable member of our fleet for several years, we’re excited for the vehicle to continue its journey across sub-Saharan Africa. Here, the 2014 Scania R459 6x2 will play a crucial role

in training HGV drivers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate roads safely and confidently. At Fagan & Whalley, this is a significant milestone in our collective mission to promote road safety and professional driving standards not just in the UK, but beyond. So rest assured, we’ll keep you in the loop with any new developments on this exciting journey!

Inspiring future generations

So when Positive Footprints reached out to us in April about speaking to school pupils regarding career opportunities within the Logistics Industry - we leapt at the chance!

Hundreds of pupils across Lancashire tuned in to the engaging live stream and Q&A, led by Positive Footprints and our Systems Project Administrator, Laura Fagan - which helped to give a clear understanding of the transport industry and challenge stereotypes within Logistics.

We’d like to thank our professional Driver, Amy Boardwell, Senior Planner, Alex Haworth and Engineer, Mark Fawcett for all of their contributions to the webinar,

where they shed some light on how each of their roles interlinked with one another to over 680 school pupils!

Feedback from schools was overwhelmingly positive, with one school remarking “It was lovely to hear from an industry which the children were less familiar with. They were particularly impressed to see a woman do what they thought was a “man’s job”, helping them to break down gender stereotypes.”

It doesn’t get much better than thata huge well done to those involved, and a warm thank you to Positive Footprints for inviting us to be a part of this initiative!

We’re finalists!

Microlise Awards

We couldn’t be prouder of our very own Artur Strzelec and John Eland, who were recognised at this year’s Microlise Driver of The Year Awards.

Artur was selected as a Top 3 Finalist in the ‘Compliant Driver of the Year’ category; meanwhile, John was shortlisted for the Top 10 Driver Performance awards. The event took place on the 16th of May 2023. Despite neither Artur nor John clinching the trophies, making it to the final rounds was a commendable accomplishment in itself.

A huge well done to both of them!

UKWA Awards for Excellence

We don’t cut corners when it comes to delivering exceptional customer service to our clients. It was therefore a pleasure to have been selected as a finalist for the Customer Service Award at this year’s UKWA Award for Excellence.

Despite not bringing home the trophy this time, being selected as a finalist for the awards is still a tremendous testament to our tireless commitment to our clients - and we’d like to say a huge thank you to our team for their ongoing support and efforts. Here’s to striving for gold next time!

Introducing our Wellbeing Advisors

But whilst an arm in a sling or a pair of crutches might make it clear when a colleague is suffering a physical ailmentthe signs aren’t always as easy to spot for mental health struggles.

That’s why over the last year, seven of our colleagues have been working towards their TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems from Training Qualifications UK through The Skills Network.

With 1 in 4 of us experiencing a mental health problem of some kind each year, research suggests that long-distance HGV drivers are particularly vulnerable to mental health difficulties.

The following members of the team are located across three depots to help support any members of the Fagan & Whalley team who could be struggling with their mental health.

A huge well done to the following individuals for their hard work!

The man, the myth, the legend Dave Weston

He’s only gone and done it - again and again! It’s likely you’ll have heard of our Class One Professional Driver, David Weston and the incredible series of truck show victories he secured last summer.

But could he do it again? Of course, he could.

This year, he’s got the truck fest season off to a flying start at Truckfest Peterboroughmaintaining his winning streak by securing two first-place prizes in the following categories:

1.

It’s an honour to have David as part of our Fagan & Whalley family, and we couldn’t be prouder of his dedication and commitment to representing us up and down the country.

Joining our company in 1988, David has now been with us for more than 35 years - and one thing is for certain; his passion for trucks hasn’t dwindled a bit. Congrats on your latest win, David - here’s to many more!

Driving down emissions with eco-friendly alternatives

We’re constantly on the lookout for innovative solutions that allow us to conduct our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible. For this reason, we’re pleased to announce that after introducing Linde Material Handling forklifts at our Frontier Park and Burnley Bridge warehouses - we’ve made significant reductions in our carbon emissions. In fact, we’ve been crunching the numbers, and they’re pretty impressive. Let’s take a look…

Total savings in CO2 emissions

11,930kg - to put this into perspective, that’s the equivalent of the CO2 created from driving a car around the earth’s circumference - twice!

Burnley Bridge

A decrease in CO2 emissions by 33.75% - saving over 3,345.2kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

Frontier Park

A decrease in CO2 emissions by 34.92% - saving over 8,585kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

Sustainability is one of our core values here at Fagan & Whalley. And whilst we’re exceptionally proud of our emission reductions, this is just the beginning for us. There are plenty of plans in the works for further green initiatives as part of our wider goals of passing down a brighter future for future generations to follow in our footsteps. For now – watch this space!

We are family What’s on at

Anthony braves the shave!

We couldn’t be prouder of our Class One Professional Driver, Anthony McConnell - who has raised an incredible £1,330 for Macmillan Cancer Support by daring to ‘brave the shave’ on the 30th of June. The funds raised will contribute to Macmillan’s essential mission - offering muchneeded support to individuals and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis. A fantastic effort from Anthony, and we love the new look, too!

Supporting the Dally

It was an honour to support cyclists across Newport for the annual Acorn Dalmatian Bike Ride on the 10th of June.

Over the last 12 years, the ride has raised an astonishing £300,000 for St David’s Hospice Care and has sparked a strong community spirit that we are proud to support. We helped out as we usually do by transporting participants’ bikes and equipment to the starting point in the Brecon Beacons - and look forward to doing the same next year, too.

A huge thank you to everyone involved!

Welcome to the world...

A warm congratulations to our Class 1 Driver, Adam Kirby, and his wife Tiffany on welcoming their baby girl, Kalaya Grace, to the world on the 11th of June, 2023. Weighing a healthy 7lbs 6oz, she’s a real bundle of joy!

Dan’s Charity Walk: Update

A heartfelt congratulations to Dan Rollings, alongside his two closest friends, who raised a fantastic £1,856 for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley.

Dan completed a gruelling 28-mile walk on the 11th of May in memory of his best friend’s son, Wyatt, who died at the hospice in 2021 after battling a rare type of muscular dystrophy for most of his short life. Well done, Dan and team!

Celebrating inclusivity at Blackpool Pride

Here at Fagan & Whalley, we believe in the power of inclusivity, diversity and the freedom to be exactly who you want to be.

That’s why this year we were honoured to have provided two trucks for use as floats at the dazzling Blackpool Pride event, which took place on Saturday 10th of June, along Blackpool Promenade. One of the trucks served as a float for the Blackpool Trans Community, while the other was put to use by Brian House, a local children’s hospice.

Members of our team including Gareth Jones, Martin Neal and Chris Corrigan had a brilliant time at the event, which was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the history, culture and issues that affect LGBTQ+ people.

Investing in safety, people & sustainability

We’re thrilled to be boosting our commitment to safety and sustainability with a new, cutting-edge vehicle safety and telematics system from Samsara.

Since July 1st, this revolutionary technology has been in action across our entire fleet. Offering sophisticated vehicle analytics and real-time performance data, the system provides us with an in-depth understanding of our vehicle operations. This empowers us to develop customised training programmes, ultimately enhancing the safety and efficiency of our operations.

The investment also further aids our sustainability efforts by supplying in-depth data on the CO2 emissions from each of our trucks - which is crucial as we continue to explore greener fuel alternatives in the near future.

2023 Trade Shows: Recap

You may have spotted us at two key tradeshows over the last couple of months - as we attended Foodex in April and Multimodal Exhibition in June.

These events served as invaluable opportunities for us to showcase our services and connect with leading figures within the industry. We left with plenty of fresh insights, knowledge and new connections - and it was great to catch up with some familiar faces, too!

Proud sponsors of Accrington Stanley

Our commitment to our local community goes much deeper than providing logistics solutions to the businesses of East Lancashire. With 95 years of heritage and over 70% of our colleagues living in the area, we’re proud to support local charities and clubs based on our doorstep.

For that reason, we’re thrilled to have renewed our sponsorship of the historic football team, Accrington Stanley, for yet another two seasons!

The local football club is situated just a few miles from our headquarters in Padiham - and it’s a privilege for us to be so closely involved with the local community. Having been partnered with the team since 2016 - we take great pride in being able to work with a company that cherishes its fans and players in the same way that we cherish our colleagues.

Keep an eye out for the Fagan & Whalley logo, which will be dotted around Wham Stadium, on player kits and in match-day programmes for another two exciting seasons!

of Root Fifty-Two’s Charity Golf Day

Tee-riffic news for our friends over at Root Fifty-Two! We’re excited to be official sponsors of the First Place prize at their annual charity golf day, where we’ll help to raise essential funds for The Brain Tumour charity.

Over the years, our partnership with the local marketing and creative agency has given us a front-row seat to their relentless fundraising efforts for this critical cause - and as a result, we’re pleased to help out in any way that we can.

Last year, their golf day pulled in a fantastic £5,000 for the charity. Here’s hoping this year’s event will be just as successful!
