MArch Studio I | Fall 2015 A luxurious residential tower rises in the area of Bushnell Park. Up to that, the concept focus on creating a unique vertical neighborhood, that distincts from the norm for the sky line of the city of Hartford. The twisting form is very challanging for such consized area, but the reasoning for having such shape is to give the residents of each appartment of the tower a different prespective to view the city. For a thin skyscraper amongst the few but gaint Hartford high rise buildings, it has to grow and evolve such a new seed in planter. The form of the building necessitates studing the building stucture. Thus a structura model has been proposed to the project based on a precedent study for Mary Axe Building in London by Foster and Partners, and Cayan Tower in Dubai by SOM.

MArch Studio II | Spring 2016 The urban scape of Florence is famous for its narrow streets that connect the populated plazas distributed over the whole city. The experience of walking in these narrow streets until when a plaza reveals itself is breathtaking and has to be addressed in the new design of Piazza dei Ciompi. Another aspect is Mediterranean style the city is dyed with, which also has to considered in any interventions in the place. The demographical figures of such touristic city certainly ranges widely and internationally, which embrace the welcoming idea of the place. The settings of the Piazza are spontaneous and indigenous to the place, and makes it necessary to regenerate some of the facades to articulate that space.
Concept The main focal point of the site is the Duomo which is located in a close proximity from the Piazza De Ciompi. The history of this building is the inspiration for the American cultural center project. It happened to be that the Bronollischi the architecte who was able to complete the dome of the building has triggered the reinessance for the Greek art and architecture, which has became fundumental for all arts that came after. The concept of light refraction is manifest in the deversity of arts spectrum now which orginally produced out of the reinssance art.

MArch Studio II | Spring 2016 Contemporary mosque architecture has been largely influenced by classical Islamic architecture. However, the critical location of Montreal islamic center imposes a new strategy to engage the design. The concept is inspired by the meaning of light in Islam, and centric motion of the seashell. The mosque in islam is the house of prayer were the light of god descends to the believers. The circular motion in nature manifest in the rotation planets around stars to the motion of electrons around nuclei.

Capital Enterprise Building | 2015 A new shopping destination in the city of Gaza has officially opened doors to the public in 2016, unveiling a whole new shopping experience to the people in Gaza. The concept was to give the pedestrian the largest exposure to the building cavities and interior spaces and to eliminate the boundaries between the inner and outer enclosures. People overwhelmingly admired the scale of construction and the spaces quality of the building. And the outcome set a new standard for the architectural and the interior design, in a deprived region. Early designs for Capital Enterprise building included several design options for the building interior and exterior. Options included different interpretation for the facade elements, construction, and materials. The interior also was inspired by different style of the interior. The images below depict the sprint between levels of design styles and details. Reviving NPAK | 2019 Considering the history and the role of the ACCEA/ NPAK in introducing contemporary art to the Armenian community, appreciation to the efforts paid to preserve this beacon of art shall be noticeable in the design of the new NPAK identity. The existing NPAK building shall remain part of this identity to represent the history of the building. However, it has to depart from the existing solid and heavy walls to a more open and inviting facade that is revealing to contemporary art. The spaces offered by the new expansion shall meet both the aesthetic and the structural needs of the 21st-century museum in terms of finishing materials, ceiling heights, and column spans. As those needs can’t be achieved using the existing structure alone, the front side of the building will be replaced with a wide-span composite structure to host the new facilities and also to withstand the vertical extension. The new addition will protrude to the boundary line on Buzand street to give more definition to the street space and create a perfect approach to the building from the north leading to a public plaza that can host public events and outdoor exhibits in conjunction with Vernissage market on the opposite side of the street. The entrance will face the approach from the north to keep the consistency of the street facade in displaying the NPAK events and activities. Architects Fahed Baker Mohamed Jomaa
