Welcome! FFrom NAMTA President Hayley Prendergast
Welcome to Pittsburgh and NAMTA’s Art Materials World Conference
WELCOME!
We hope you’ll enjoy and appreciate the new and exciting changes we’re introducing this year!
One of the biggest is that for the first time we have our friends from the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) joining us. That means you’ll find new exhibitors in the CHA Pavilion on the show floor, and CHA retail members walking the aisles looking for new products for their stores. NAMTA has made major strides in developing its art advocacy campaign, “Art Matters!” You’ll hear more about it in my opening remarks at Wednesday morning’s Business Session, and you’ll see it for yourself throughout the Art Materials World event. I encourage you to attend Wednesday afternoon’s program session, “Stand Up for the Arts in America!” with Samantha Steelman of the Arts Action Fund and Americans for the Arts, to learn how you can get involved. We’re very excited about another initiative, the current, ongoing discussions with three other associations about the possible co-location of NAMTA’s annual conferences into a single “mega” event, possibly as early as 2016. Those potential partners include CHA, CAMEX (the College Bookstore Association) and the Education Market Association (formerly NSSEA), which focuses on supplies for the school market. Your NAMTA Board believes such an event would present buying members with a large variety of new and relevant products and services, as well as offer supplier members access to a wider array of potential customers. Some members already attend events hosted by these associations, so combining shows could offer major efficiency benefits. Let us know what you think. There’s more! Stop by the NAMTA booth and talk to Leah Siffringer about all NAMTA is doing to save you money, including new discount program partnerships and the latest in our series of free retailer training manuals, “Advertising and Marketing.” Learn about how our bi-weekly digital publications – NAMTA e-News and The Palette – continue to add readers and expand content. efforts in Washington, DC, and overseas regarding the Kolinsky brush issue. Finally, find out all about the wide variety of business tools you can download from “Resources” page on the NAMTA website, namta.org. The art materials business, like so many industries, has experienced its share of pain. As is usually the case, the future presents us with many new challenges. NAMTA is working hard to not only create new partnerships – like CHA’s presence here – but also to provide an array of products, programs and services to assist members in addressing these issues. Thanks to the leadership of NAMTA’s dedicated board and staff, plus the wide support of our committed members, the International Art Materials Association is financially stable, more energized and more focused than ever on delivering great content, great value and great benefits for your membership dollars. I hope you’ll agree that today, your dues investment covers so much more than the conference, and is providing a wide spectrum of valuable services and activities to support you and the art materials business. NAMTA is reinvigorated with a solid strategic plan, clear vision and a determination to have an impact. The past year as NAMTA’s President has provided me with an experience that has been truly rewarding, both personally and professionally. For that I thank you. It has been an honor to serve as your President. Have a great show!
