IELLO
Catapult Feud is a new boulder launching, castle smashing dexterity game for the whole family. Players build castles, set up their troops, load the catapults and use cunning tactics to conquer the floor!
Designed by Kristian Fosh, the game engages the imagination by immersing players in a medieval-style battle between kingdoms. Players will get to choose one of two families, either the Chauforts from France or the Cunningfields from England. They will then have to build a castle out of plastic bricks to fortify their troops. Using Action cards and their very own, fully functioning catapult, players launch rubber boulders in an attempt to destroy their opponent's castle and knock over their troops. When all the troops of one family are knocked down, the battle is over. The winning family must have at least one troop standing upright.
We asked designer Kristian Fosh a few questions about his awesome game:
IELLO: What motivated you to create this game?
FOSH: Originally, I started making this game just for me and my boys. They love nothing more than to build… and then break what the other has built! When I needed some ideas and feedback, I started posting the very early designs on Facebook in a few of the amazing collaboration groups and the interest I got was incredible. So many people could identify with an idea and experience that had been missing since their childhoods.
Since then, it’s been a combination of the support I have from my family, the incredible community support online, and the wonderful team at Vesuvius Media that have pushed me to get the game completed, boxed up, and delivered to gaming tables and living room floors around the world.
IELLO: What was your inspiration?
FOSH: I was inspired by the fun games I used to play with my brothers back when we were kids and wanted to bring that joy back, now that I’m a Dad of young kids. My boys are now 8 and 6 and have loved this game ever since we started working on it together. To see them playing it for hours, bringing it out for their friends to play, it inspired me to make the best possible game I could so that other families could share in the game we’d made together.

IELLO: What is a fun fact about the creation of the game?
FOSH: In all the years we’ve been playing it together, my kids have never once asked me what the rules are!
IELLO: In your opinion what are the right ingredients for a fun game?
FOSH: When I design, I always try to have three ‘pillars’ and measure everything against them. So, for Catapult Feud, it was Construction, Destruction, and Fun. Each element had to belong to at least one of these pillars, if not more. The bricks were made large and simple so it is still fun to build your castles. The Destruction should definitely be fun - not only to cause but also to experience. The fun is throughout, from the art style, the crazy characters, and the weird and wonderful war machines.
So, even if it’s your castle that’s under siege, it’s still fun to watch it fall. Much more fun to get your own back though!
IELLO: What would you like to tell your fans about their next Catapult Feud games?
FOSH: I hope you have a great time! This game is all about having fun, never taking it too seriously, and enjoying time together as friends and family.
IELLO: What is a little-known fact about you that you would like to share with your fans?
FOSH: This was the first game I ever designed by myself (before the amazing team at Vesuvius picked me up) and most of the drawings were done on the train as I commuted to and from work!
IELLO: Are you a dog or a cat person?
FOSH: I have owned and loved both in the past, but I’d rather have a dog if given a choice. Plus, dogs seem to learn faster to stay off the battlefield or face the consequences. ;)
