Embracing Random, Silly Fun with Gelatinous
arrangement – builds their Gelatinous cube and wins the game!
Gelatinous might be even more ridiculous than I’ve made it sound. As someone who has watched as millions of Munchkin games and expansions have sold in stores across the world, I can guarantee you that silly is a good thing. Silly sells … again and again.
We first introduced Gelatinous to retailers at the GAMA show in 2020. We felt Gelatinous would make a great game to show off at conventions and in stores, so we had a relatively small run of blister-carded games manufactured. We had just started to work up a release plan … and then the world changed. Suddenly, a dice-chucking game of silly nonsense became a much tougher title to promote. We knew the best way to market the game was with demos, and, as you may recall, in-person demos weren’t really a thing after GAMA 2020. But the games were on the way to our warehouse and they needed to be sold, so we rolled up our sleeves and did the best we could.

How did we do? Not bad at all! As a direct-sales item, we officially sold a few thousand copies of the Gelatinous dice game, and the response was so favorable that we decided to return to the factory for a second run. We upgraded to a window box (to show off the dice), added coasters (that serve as cheat sheets) and kept the custom dice bag. Once you’ve opened the box, the entire game fits in the bag. It’s a great travel game!
Gelatinous is available now, either through our distribution partners or from our online store, Warehouse 23. If you wish to order Gelatinous or our other games and need a direct account, email retailers@sjgames.com for support. We think this one will be a hit with families, and we look forward to teaching the game at conventions this year … and for many years to come!
