1. Create background by inking, painting or coloring mat. Overall design works best if background and flowers are contrasting colors. 2. Cut flower, leaves and butterfly shapes from clear plastic and place on mat in pleasing arrangement. Trace outlines of shapes on the mat in pencil, then go over lines again using fine tip black marker. Erase pencil marks. 3. Cut flower and leaf shapes from heavy card stock, craft foam, watercolor paper or matboard by hand or die cut machine (template designs on reverse side). 4. Add color to flowers and leaves with ink, paint or colored pencil. Allow to dry. Doodle borders and repeating patterns on flowers in black fine tip marker. 5. Place flowers on mat and use adhesive foam squares in between petals to add dimension. On the top petal, add a flat back pearl.
6. Use colored markers, colored pencils or white pen to add subtle dimension to the design. 7. Letter “Make art with all your heart” on Crescent Illustration Board to fit window opening of mat. Fill in letters using colored markers or colored pencils and tape phrase in window. Add backing board and frame (if desired). NOTE: If you intend to frame your finished piece, keep the flower shapes within the 8” x 10” border. 8. Display and enjoy, or give as a gift to your favorite artist!
