Cannabis Terpenes to Soothe Insomnia

What is Insomnia? Individuals that have difficulty falling or staying asleep have what is classified as “insomnia”. It is considered the most common sleep disorder whereby over 1 in 4 individuals have experienced symptoms at least once in their life. These symptoms can appear in various ways depending on the individual but typically resemble one of the following: ● Taking a long time to fall asleep ● Only sleeping for brief periods of time or waking too early ● Being awake for much of the night There are two types of insomnia: acute and chronic. Acute insomnia is generally related to life events or a change in circumstances. The causes range from financial stresses to changes at work to receiving bad or stressing news. This type of insomnia is very common and is often self-resolving within one to three weeks, depending on the individual. Chronic insomnia on the other hand can last for a much longer period. Typically insomnia is not considered chronic unless sleep has been disrupted for 3+ nights per week over a one month period. This type of insomnia is often caused by environment, health conditions, unhealthy sleep habits or shift work. This type of insomnia affects approximately 10% of adults.
