Head Coach Laura Field Second Season • Princeton ’00

Laura Field assumed the role of head coach of the Fairfield women’s lacrosse team following the 2015 season. The upcoming spring will be her ninth overall campaign with the Stags. Field’s seven year tenure as Associate Head Coach from 2008-15 has included the most successful stretch in program history. The span is highlighted by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and NCAA postseason berths in 2009 and 2015. Her stay has also coincided with the program’s two winningest seasons, a program-record 17-game overall winning streak and a stretch of 30 consecutive regular season victories over MAAC foes. Field came to Fairfield after an eight-year stint with the Yale University women’s lacrosse program, including an 11-5 season as interim head coach in 2008 that saw the Bulldogs finish at No. 17 in the national poll. All told, Field helped guide Yale to a final top-20 national ranking six times, including a No. 7 ranking following the 2003 season. That year, Yale posted a 13-3 mark and captured the Ivy League title en route to the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals. NCAA Tournament experience is nothing new to Field, who earned four varsity letters as a member of the Princeton University lacrosse program. As the starting goalkeeper for the Tigers, Field led the squad to the 2000 NCAA Championship Game to cap a run of three straight postseason bids. She was a First Team All-Ivy honoree in 1997. A native of Mystic, Conn., Field currently resides in New Haven.

Assistant Coach Erin Slifer Second Season • Princeton ’15

Erin Slifer enters her second season with Fairfield as the assistant coach heading into the spring of 2017. Slifer was drafted 20th overall by the Boston Storm in the inaugural United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) Draft in April of 2016. She was a four-year letterwinner at Princeton University, earning AllAmerica honors as a co-captain of the Tigers in 2015.In addition to All-America laurels, Slifer claimed her second consecutive First Team All-Ivy League nod and was named the league’s Midfielder of the Year in 2015. She rounded out her decorated senior campaign with First Team All-ECAC and IWLCA First Team All-Mid-Atlantic laurels. Slifer led Princeton in scoring with 71 points – 41 goals and 30 assists – as the Tigers won the Ivy League Championship. Princeton would advance to the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals, defeating the Stags in the opening round and then upsetting host Stony Brook in the second round. Princeton finished the spring ranked No. 9 in the nation by the IWLCA. Slifer graduated from Princeton in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics.

Coordinator of Lacrosse Operations Mike Waldvogel Second Season • Cortland State ‘71

Mike Waldvogel is the Coordinator of Women’s Lacrosse Operations at Fairfield after retiring from his head coaching post following the 2015 season. He owns over 250 collegiate head coaching victories (258-178) between his time at Fairfield and Yale (men’s) and made five NCAA postseason appearances. Waldvogel led the Stags to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Championship berth in 2009 and 2015. He is a three-time MAAC Coach of the Year. In his seven years as head coach at Fairfield, the Stags went 92-35 with a 42-4 mark in MAAC Lacrosse League regular season play. Including his season as an assistant in 2008, Waldvogel has been on the sidelines for 112 Stags’ victories. A 1996 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee, Waldvogel was a two-time First Team All-America selection as a defenseman. He went to play for the US National Team in 1974 and 1978 and later coached the squad in 1990. Waldvogel earned a Bachelor’s Degree Science Education from Cortland State in 1971 and a Master’s Degree in Science Education in 1975. He currently resides in Madison, Conn.

2017 News & Notes 2017 Captains This year’s squad will be led by a trio of seniors in Alex Fehmel, RIley Hellstein, and Scarlett Sulliman who were named team captains by Head Coach Laura Field.

Shot Stoppers Paulina Difatta, Caleigh O’Connor, and Amy White will battle for the vacant starting role as goalkeeper of the Stags. Chelsey Sidaras missed just one start in three seasons after taking over the starting role in 2014, and with her graduation leaves behind an open spot in net.

Controlling the Draw Through three seasons, senior midfielder Riley Hellstein has already racked up 134 draw controls, ranking third most in a career in Fairfield history.

Career Milestones Both Fehmel and Hellstein have a chance this season to etch their names in the record books. Based on their previous performances both can jump into the Top 10 in a number of statistical categories including games started, goals, assists, points, game winning goals, free position goals, draw controls, and caused turnovers.

Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium Opened in February of 2015 and dedicated on March 21, 2015, Rafferty Stadium is a 3,500-seat venue located on campus at the same site as its predecessor, Alumni Field. The facility features a Daktronics HD video board, state-of-the-art sound and lights and a FieldTurf playing surface, all made possible through the generosity of Fairfield alumni, parents and friends. The stadium is named in recognition of the principal leadership gift from Larry Rafferty ’64 and his family, and the field itself is named Conway Field in acknowledgment of a gift from Tim Conway ’76 and his family. Rafferty Stadium also includes a terrace level with a fully-enclosed press box that features a large media suite, two VIP suites and a production suite to support the video capabilities of the scoreboard, television broadcasts and web streaming. Action from Rafferty Stadium has been televised live on SportsNet New York (SNY), the American Sports Network and CBS Sports Network in addition to online broadcasts via ESPN3 and FairfieldStags.TV. On the ground level are two team rooms, food, beverage and apparel concessions, restrooms, a box office and entry plaza. On March 12, 2016, Rafferty Stadium hosted its largest Fairfield Lacrosse crowd to date as 2,456 fans packed the house to watch the Stags’ men’s lacrosse team challenge in-state rival Yale. In addition to Fairfield men’s and women’s lacrosse, Rafferty Stadium is home to Fairfield Prep football, soccer and lacrosse and several of the University’s intramural and club sports programs. It has also hosted Fairfield men’s and women’s soccer matches and housed the Alumni and Family Weekend concert on Oct. 24, 2015 featuring The Temptations Review Featuring Dennis Edwards and Matt & Kim. Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium hosted a Major League Lacrosse Semi-Final on August 13, 2016, marking the first professional sporting event held at the venue. The game saw the Denver Outlaws knock off the New York Lizards, 20-17
