Discover Istanbul from a different angle on today’s private guided tour. Begin with the distinctive bouquet of the Spice Bazaar before boarding a delightful Bosphorus Cruise to see more of the city where east meets west. Float past the palaces, mansions, fortresses and gardens that line the Bosphorus banks before arriving at Beylerbeyi Palace, summer residence of the Sultans. Later take in the panoramic views over Istanbul from Camlica Hill.

Travel tip Safranbolu is known for handicrafts and, right in the heart of the old city, you will find local artisans working their trade as well as a timeless shoemaker’s market.

Day 4: Safranbolu

Make an early departure with your private guide and vehicle for the UNESCO World Heritage listed town of Safranbolu. This enchanting destination holds the finest remaining examples of traditional Ottoman architecture in Turkey. Its cobbled streets are lined with charming crisp white homes and historic mansions converted for accommodation.

Day 5: Safranbolu

After breakfast, take a scenic drive through the mountains and little villages that surround Safranbolu. Enjoy a leisurely lunch on your return and take time to explore the town independently. Weather permitting, take a short boat trip on the lake, overlooking the old city and Safranbolu Castle, built in the 9th century by the Byzantians.

Day 6: Safranbolu – Ankara

Take a free morning to reacquaint yourself with the pleasures of Safranbolu before departing with your car and driver for Ankara, the modern capital of Turkey.

Day 7: Ankara

This morning visit Anitkabir museum and mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, modern Turkey’s founding father. Proceed to the Anatolian Civilisations Museum which houses the largest collection of Hittite artefacts in the world. Take a free afternoon to encounter this vibrant contemporary city face to face.

Day 8: Ankara, Hattusas – Cappadocia

Leave Ankara for the magical landscapes of Cappadocia today. Today’s journey will pass by the Bronze Age imperial city of Hattussa. Stop at this UNESCO World Heritage listed site to discover life as the Hittites lived it, exploring the many original and reconstructed historical features. See the brilliant stone Hittite friezes in the nearby Yazilikaya sanctuary before continuing to Cappadocia.

Day 9: North Cappadocia

today, where visitors bathe in the thermal pools amongst fallen giant columns. Hierapolis is renowned for its formidable Hellenistic gate and a well-preserved necropolis with hundreds of sarcophagi. At the conclusion of today’s visit to Pamukkale and Hierapolis, continue to the riviera town of Kusadasi.

Day 10: South Cappadocia

Day 13: Ephesus, Temple of Artemis – Kusadasi

A full day tour visiting the Byzantine era Uchisar Castle, UNESCO World Heritage listed Goreme Open Air Museum and taking in the panoramic views of Pasabag and Devrent Valley. Later visit Avanos where the Hittites began making ceramics and a presentation on Turkish rug making. Today's day tour explores the citadel at Kaymakli and its underground city. The remarkable vistas of Red Valley and Pigeon Valley are followed by a visit to Cavusin Village, where the Church of St John the Baptist is located.

Day 11: Pamukkale

Depart Cappadocia with your private vehicle and guide for the journey to Konya. Mevlana Mausoleum and museum, dedicated to the mystic Rumi, who founded the Whirling Dervish order, is a popular attraction here. Continue to UNESCO World Heritage listed Pamukkale and Hierapolis. The striking white terraces here have been formed into pools by centuries of mineral deposits.

Day 12: Pamukkale, Hierapolis – Kusadasi

Must see Kaklik Cave was opened to visitors in 2002. Known as Little Pamukkale, inside it features the same bright white mineral terraces as the Cotton Castle.

Istanbul

Tour the imposing city of Ephesus with your guide today. One of the ancient world’s most fascinating sites, at Ephesus you will walk 2,000 year old marble streets, visit the theatre and Temple of Hadrian, then marvel at the remarkable Celsus Library. Move on to the Temple of Artemis ruins, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, before stopping at the House of the Virgin Mary, where Jesus’ mother is believed to have spent her twilight years.

Day 14: Pergamum, Troy – Canakkale

Drive along the picturesque Aegean coast to the ancient town of Pergamum, where the magnificent acropolis boasts one of the steepest amphitheatres in the world. Its impressive temples, library and asclepion made Pergamum a renowned cultural and political centre in its day. Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage listed ancient city of Troy, made famous in Homer’s Iliad, where your guide will provide insightful commentary. • Simit has been baked in Turkey since 1525 and you will hear cries of Taze simit! from street vendors across the country plying the delicious fresh bread. •

BLACK SEA

Relax and explore the coastal town of Canakkale this morning before crossing the Dardanelles to the World War I battlefields of Gallipoli. Your guide will inform and enlighten on sites included in today’s private tour, such as Anzac Cove, Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair memorials, Ari Burnu Cemetery and Johnston’s Jolly, where original trenches and tunnels can be seen. Later make the return journey to Istanbul.

Day 16: Tour concludes

Day 2: Old City – Istanbul

Private guided day tour of UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Istanbul. Visit the Blue Mosque that takes its name from the fine Iznik ceramic tiles adoring the upper levels. Day 3: Twin Continents – Istanbul

Then take a leisurely cruise along the strait dividing Europe and Asia. Along the Bosphorus shores are palaces, stone fortresses, mansions, gardens and fabulous eateries. Pay a visit to Beylerbeyi Palace, once the summer residence of Sultans and enjoy the brilliant views of European Istanbul from Camlica Hill, across the water.

Day 4: Edirne

Today your private vehicle and driver arrangement commences with the journey from Istanbul to Edirne. This city became the second Ottoman capital during the reign of Sultan Murad and is renowned for its historic buildings. Begin by visiting the nine-domed Old Mosque before continuing to Üç Şerefeli Mosque, featuring an unusual balconied minaret, and the architectural masterpiece, Selimiye Mosque. After lunch, pay a visit to Ali Pasa Bazaar covered market, the Ottoman inspired Bayezid II Külliye Health Museum, Tower Gate and Meric Bridge.

Day 5: Bursa

Travel to Bursa this morning, located at the foot of Mount Olympus. This Byzantine city was captured in 1326 and soon became the first official capital of the Ottoman Empire. Take this afternoon to relax and explore at your own pace.

Spend this morning relaxing in exotic Istanbul before an afternoon flight to Cappadocia. You will be met at Nevsehir Airport and transferred to your hotel.

Must do Hurrem Sultan Turkish Bath is tucked away in Old Istanbul and well worth a visit. Built in the 1500s for Sultana Roxelana, it still specialises in the historical and luxurious art of bathing.

Day 5: North Cappadocia A day tour taking in panoramic views of Pasabag and Devrent Valley, visiting Byzantine era Uchisar Castle and UNESCO World Heritage Goreme Open Air Museum. Later, stop at the traditional Turkish village of Avanos, renowned for its beautiful ceramics since the age of the Hittites.

Day 6: South Cappadocia Today, enjoy the Pigeon Valley vista and a light trek through remarkable Red Valley. Explore the citadel at Kaymakli with its underground city, before paying a visit to Cavusin Village where the Church of St John the Baptist is located.

Day 7: Cappadocia Spend today relaxing amidst the extraordinary volcanic rock landscapes of Cappadocia before boarding an overnight coach for the journey to Antalya.

Day 8: Antalya A morning arrival in Antalya where you will transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a free day discovering this vibrant Mediterranean coastal town.

Day 9: Aspendos, Side & Perge – Antalya Today’s guided day tour takes in the Roman amphitheatre of Aspendos, still in use today and the richly decorated ruins of Perge, complete with Hellenistic gate. The ancient Pamphylian city of Side is next, where Roman baths now house a museum.

Day 10: P aradise Blue Gulet Cruise Marmaris

A free day to make own arrangements for bus travel to Marmaris. At the marina you will board a traditional Turkish gulet for 4 days blue cruising. Relax with a welcome drink and spend this evening dining and socialising with cruise passengers.

Travel tip Travelling in Turkey by bus is simple and convenient. Buses are comfortable, well maintained and very efficient. Most towns have an otogar (bus terminal) with a secure luggage room.

Istiklal Avenue is an elegant pedestrian boulevard in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul, filled with historical patisseries, chocolateries and restaurants. After you’ve eaten, stay for live music or browse the many galleries, book shops, theatres and boutiques.

Day 14: Kusadasi

A free day to explore one of Turkey’s best kept secrets before making own arrangements for bus travel to Kusadasi.

Boarding starts by 15.30 at Marmaris Marina. You will have time for visiting the old town and bazaar of Marmaris with its small streets and hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. The castle of Marmaris lies on the old town hill and offers a beautiful view across the harbor. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Marmaris.

Day 11: Paradise Blue Gulet Cruise – Ekincik Gulf, Dalyan

Day 15: Ephesus, Sirince – Kusadasi Absorb yourself in history today on a guided tour of Ephesus. See the site of the Temple of Artemis and soak up the mystical atmosphere of the ancient city and its theatre. Later continue to the House of the Virgin Mary and pay a visit to the quaint little Ottoman village of Sirince.

Day 16: Priene, Miletus, Didyma - Kusadasi

After breakfast you will be informed about the cruise itinerary and boat. The cruise will move towards Ekincik Gulf and overnight stay will be in this beautiful gulf. You may join optional Dalyan excursion. The participants will be taken from the yacht with a smaller boat called ‘Piyade’ which will bring you into the green delta of Dalyan through the Lycian Rock Tombs. You may see the Caretta-Caretta turtles on the way if you are lucky. You will have a swimming stop at a unique place called Caretta – Caretta beach. There will be a mud bath occasion on the way back. Final destination before getting on the boat will be the village of Dalyan.

Day 12: Paradise Blue Gulet Cruise – Sunken Bath, Kizil Island

Because of the wavy seas of Disibilmez and Kurtoglu capes that we have to cross, we will cruise earlier than the other days and reach the world-famous Gocek Gulf. We will anchor at Sunken Bath for breakfast and swimming break. This place is also known as Cleopatra Bay or Sunken Bath Bay due to the beautiful underwater ruins of an old bath. Then we will cruise to Tersane Island. This naturally protected harbor was used as a shipyard in Byzantine and Ottoman times. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Kizil Island.

Itinerary Day 1: Dubrovnik

Upon your arrival to Dubrovnik you will be received, welcomed and escorted to your hotel by our private driver. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 2: Cavtat - Srdj Hill - Dubrovnik

A coastal drive south to the picturesque seaside town of Cavtat, where you'll walk the limestone cobbled streets, squares, promenade and see the villas and houses and hear all about the local history & customs while having a drink at one of the many street side cafes. Cavtat was directly affected in the early 1990's war and you'll hear all about that period. After Cavtat you'll drive back towards Dubrovnik making a slight detour to the Srdj hill top which overlooks Dubrovnik the coastline and nearby islands. You'll then drive down to Dubrovnik's old town for a full tour seeing all the sights.

Day 3: Korcula & Peljesac Peninsula

The tour starts with a coastal drive along the Peljesac peninsula to the town of Orebic where you'll take a boat over to the Island of Korcula, the birth place of Marco Polo! You'll be led on a walking tour hearing about the local history and loads of interesting tid bits. After free time you'll head back to the Peljesac peninsula to the medieval walled town of Ston. It's walls were built in the 16th century and at that time were the second longest defense walls in the world after the Great Wall of China! You can walk part of the walls, see the ancient Roman salt flats and stroll through the cobbled streets of the town. Ston is the oyster and mussels capital of Croatia and the restaurants & taverns specialize in the local cuisine and predominate zinfandel wines.There are excellent local taverns along the way where you can try the local cuisine.

Day 4: Dubrovnik, Mostar, Split

Mostar in neighboring Bosnia & Herzegovina. After crossing the Croatian / Bosnia & Herzegovinian border you'll get a full run down of the country, hear all about the local history and life in the present, break up of Yugoslavia and the early 1990's war. Mostar is known for it's mix of Ottoman & Christian architecture, maze of cobbled streets, street side cafes, taverns, mosques, churches and it's famous 16th century Old Bridge which crosses the Neretva River. Mostar was directly affected in the 1993 war and many of the buildings still pay testimony to that period, although nowadays is very safe and increasingly popular. The cuisine in Mostar has a distinct oriental influence like different kebabs, finger shaped ground meat balls called Cevapi, baclavas, Turkish coffee and more.

Day 5: Trogir & Split Half Day Tour

The tour starts with a 30 min coastal drive to the UNESCO Island town of Trogir, where you'll walk the cobbled streets, squares, seaside promenade and see the 13th century cathedral of St. Lawrence, the 16th century Venetian Kamerlengo fort, medieval Renaissance palaces, local limestone houses and more. After experiencing Trogir and hearing about the local history, customs and trivialities you'll go back to Split for a full walking tour of Diocletian's Palace and the rest of the medieval part known as the 'Old Town'. After the tour you'll have free time to explore on your own, do some shopping and indulge in the local cuisine.

Day 6: Island of Hvar

2 hour ferry ride from Split to the port of Stari Grad, Hvar where it's a 25 min drive to the town of Hvar. Upon arrival to the town of Hvar you'll be taken on a walking tour seeing all the sights and gain a better understanding of the history and present day island life and see why Hvar is a must see. Hvar has a maze of cobbled streets, scenic coastal walkways, beaches and countless outdoor cafes perfect for 'people

Itinerary Arrival to Zagreb Airport. Welcome and greeting by the English-speaking local driver, who will take you to the hotel for check-in and relaxation.

After breakfast at hotel, morning at leisure. An afternoon tour of the old town-- including the Church of St. Mark, the Cathedral and the Parliament—sees the sun set in the western sky of Zagreb on your first day.

Day 3: Lakes Bled, Bohinj and Ljubjlana

In the morning we start our Private tour in Slovenia with a drive to Lake Bled, the surreal image of the church at its center your focus. We then drive deeper into the Julian Alps to explore another Alpine pearl, Bohinj, including a cable car ride to Mt. Vogel. In the evening, transfer to Ljubljana.

Day 4: Postojna Caves, Groznjan, Rovinj

This morning we will leave Ljubljana and head towards another UNESCO site in Slovenia: the Postojna Caves, afterwhich we go to Croatia to visit Istria and its picturesque hilltop town, Grožnjan. Continue then to the most famous town, Rovinj, which we will explore with an expert local guide.

Day 5: Rovinj - Porec & Pula

This morning we will start with the tour of Istria, visiting the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč and the Roman ampitheater at Pula. Afternoon at leisure in Rovinj.

Day 9: Island of Brac

Your first destination is the oldest village called Skrip, where you'll see the ancient Roman sarcophagi, Venetian villas and centuries old farmers homes made of limestone blocks and hear all about the Brac's history and contemporary lifestyle of the islanders. You'll continue by driving across the island to the popular seaside town of Bol, where you'll walk the local streets and promenade. Bol is famous for it's Golden Cape beach (Zlatni rat), one of the best in Croatia. There are great places for lunch at taverns and family homesteads, one of which is a 20 min drive on a gravel road to a fisherman's home for catch of the day, organically grown vegetables and home made wine and other beverages. Day 10: Authentic Dalmatian Hinterland

Its Mediterranean climate makes Turkey an ideal year round destination. Most people choose to visit during Spring or Autumn, but the country enjoys sunny days right through the year. Along the coast, long hot summer days are tempered by refreshing sea breezes. Further inland, low humidity makes travel both relaxing and comfortable. Australians travelling to Turkey as a tourist or for business should apply for an e-visa online at www.evisa.gov.tr prior to travel. The current cost is 60USD (subject to change). Australians will have a maximum stay of 90 days within a 180 day period for tourists. New Zealand citizens who intend to travel to Turkey for tourism-related purposes for up to 90days do not require a visa in advance of travel to Turkey. Provided they can show sufficient funds to support themselves and evidence of onward travel bookings, they are usually granted entry to Turkey for a period of 90 days. Tour Price Exclusions

Domestic and international airfares (except where specified), airport taxes, passport and visa fees, insurance, laundry, phone calls, beverages, meals not detailed in the itinerary, Tour Guide and Bus Driver tips, personal expenses, excess baggage, optional excursions etc. are not included. Quoted prices do not include your travel costs to leave the tour or return home early for any reason.

Reservations & Payments

A deposit greater of 10% or $300 per person per tour is required to confirm your booking. Final payment is required at least 45 days before your departure from Australia. Added detail is available online.

Booking Arrangements

A Travel Agent will make your booking arrangements and, by requesting such booking, you are deemed to have accepted Fairy Chimneys Travel full terms and conditions.

Changes & Cancellations

Changes to any confirmed booking attract a $100 per person fee. Cancellations to any confirmed booking attract a $300 per person fee. Tour price is forfeit on a scalable rate for cancellations made within 45 days of departure. Refer online for extra details, including penalty scale.
