The Parks around Expo

This park covers an area of 65 hectares which was once agricultural land. The rows of trees which follow the ancient borders of the fields along the artificial canals bear witness to this as does the Cascina Bellaria farmhouse which was active until 1971, the year in which the park was established. Springs, no longer active, called Cagnola and Santa Maria used to run through it and were essential for irrigating the fields. To the west lies the War Graves Cemetery where 417 Commonwealth servicemen who took part in liberating the city of Milan are buried. 3 | Cascina Linterno

This trail passes through parks, agricultural areas and protected oases which unfold between the Naviglio Grande canal and the Villoresi canal, from the Parco Agricolo Sud in the south to the Parco delle Groane in the north. For some stretches it runs along the artificial canals which are one of the most extraordinary achievements of our region. Starting from the San Leonardo metro station and taking a road which runs through cultivated fields, you immediately come to the tow-path of the Villoresi Canal in the park Bosco in Città. From here you carry on through agricultural land with historical, but still active, farmhouses, until you reach the Parco dei Fontanili (springs); the return route to Milan takes you through Vighignolo with its ancient hamlet and Villa Airaghi, then Settimo Milanese with its Mantegazza Chapel and Palazzo d’Adda, and finally through Parco di Trenno.
