Tenacious Patio Furniture
Abstract The stress of modern lifestyle leads to greater outdoor indulgence. Now a days exquisite home interiors are no longer enough. The concept of outdoor furniture has evolved greatly over the years. From the Medieval and Victorian days massive banquet tables and heavy wooden couches to the more chic sofas and beanbags, outdoor furniture has come a long way and has dispelled all the age-old norms and introduced new materials, designs and styles. Apart from beautifying the oor space, outdoor furniture also offers optimum level of comfort as well as discomfort such as is directly exposure and lack of shelter. Direct exposure may affect durability if it is examined with inappropriate material. Mostly out door chairs and table are assembled with 24 parts during manufacturing process in sense of moulds. In this thesis I achieved my goal to assemble furniture by 2 molds only with repetition having joints in it. Composition according to our will can be composed.

Design statement: Become comfortable with unfamiliar and unknown
11
Historical Eras: 1600-1650: Metal or resin (including plastic and other products) was soon incorporated into the building of outdoor furniture. And, any one growing up during the 1600-1650 can remember chairs and loungers that were built on aluminum frames with plastic webbing for the seating area.
1650-1700 As the British American colonies became more secure & furniture became more plentiful, colonial gardener knew that the latest taste dictated placing seats & benches to emphasize a focal point in the garden
12
Patio Furniture
1700-1750: In 1700-1750 garden writings, Stephen Switzer, Iconographies Rustic or the Noble man, Gentleman and Gardeners’ Recreation makes a direct reference to the Windsor chair and outdoor furniture
1750-1800: From 1750-1800 colonists often moved routine daily chores outdoors as soon as the weather allowed. After the Revolution, gardening burgeoned into a democratic pursuit, needing to satisfy both the functional & the ornamental goals of the new nation.
13
Devlopmental Eras: 1800-1850: During 1800-1850 “Almodington Bench”, a diagonally slatted back design of yellow pine which was originally made for the Somerset County Maryland, plantation named “Almodington were made.
1850-1900: From 1850-1900 a design encouraging both air circulation & the moving of chairs in & out of doors. The Robert Wood foundry in Philadelphia produced cast iron garden furniture.
1900-1940: From 1900-1940 outdoor furniture was the most enduring piece of garden The use of everyday 0ut door furniture for garden events continued into the 19th centuries.
14
Patio Furniture
1940-1980: In the 1940-1980 casual outdoor furniture began to appear. Handcrafted wrought iron, cast and tubular aluminum became popular years later.
1980-2013: In 1980-2013 out door furniture became popular as indoor furniture in every out door sites.Lawn chairs became the rage along with straight back chairs as the urban centers became more populated.

a product designer I suggest following features. Reduce costof mold from 1.5 crore to 2 lack approximately. Designed whole series with help of two parts. Achieved different compositions by clever use of ball and socket joints. User friendly. Elegant looks Comfortable ergonomics.

Case Study Discussion:
18
•
We only have a retail business of outdoor furniture because outdoor furniture is totally imported not a single type of outdoor furniture made in Pakistan.
•
Some plastic chairs and table manufacture in Pakistan, like by TOYO and BOSS in Gujranwala but their molds are also imported from china
•
If you have me outdoor furniture to manufacture in Pakistan then it is difficult for us because china is a market leader and we can’t compete with china in design sense because we lack product designers.
•
labourcost less expensive in china that’s why they lead in product production and we can lead them by applying this strategy.
•
If one mold is imported from china of 10 million and if u have us same mold in 0.02 million then it will be helpful for us and for Pakistan.
•
If out furniture have shelter attached to it then I think it’s more profitable as well as beneficial aspect.
•
I claim that material for outdoor furnitureis such type that it can adhere all type of environment.
•
Definitely its profitable and good for us to have anoutdoor furniture plant in Pakistan.
Patio Furniture
Conclusions: •
As there is no manufacturing plant of outdoor furniture in Pakistan, if one of us launches it by hiring product designer as well as engineers then in sha Allah Pakistan can lead the market all over the world.
•
In my point of view “more risk more return” in any kind of business.
•
There is not a problem of finance but a problem of having lack of product designer, that’s why people are in fear to launch an outdoor manufacturing plant.
•
But all of us I appreciate the owners of different outdoor furniture’s dealers that they have a sense that product cannot be only sold by making it expensive and examined it with good material but sold along with a proper design also.

•
Have three types of plastics (VIP, Boss recycle, Boss puro).
•
Improper heating in injection molding reduce its pressure and unable to suck the plastic back.
•
Imported mould of chair from china minimum of 1 crore and maximum of 1 crore 25 lack.
•
One mold of chair made up of 100 parts
•
Our molds vary from 2500kg to 2700 kg and also lead to 3500 kg.
•
As like chair table also produce on same mechanism using 100 parts in its mold.
•
Mold machines are either auto ,semi auto, and manual but best operating way is auto.
•
In CNC machine mold follow following steps. CNC->Spark Rosen->milling machine->bath in Kerosene oil>laith machine->Radial machine.
•
Chairs come out of from mold in every 1.5 seconds but some heavy chairs take 58 seconds.
•
Good production needs best cooling.
•
Flash produce due to wrong locking.
•
In chair mold minimum 22 parts are changeable called as insert.
20
Conclusions: •
I will use injection molding in which 2 parts are used.
•
In these molds insert can be used which is best way in design innovation.
•
Molds set up reduce to small level due to less mold’s weight.
•
It shall be an economical product due to decrease of mold cost from 1crore,25lack to 2lack

Problems: Weather problem: Directly exposed to weather that’s why it has direct impact on it.
Shelter problem: Faced a problem of improper shelter, this may cause irritating problems for users.
Lack of durability: Loses its durability due to direct exposure of sun and weather.
22
Non Eco friendly: Faces major problem of not being eco friendly
Expense problem: Mostly people not enjoy to have it because it is expensive one.
Inappropriate behavior Users are not properly trained how to use it?
23
My possible solutions: • • • • • •
24
Weather problem is solved by keeping the furniture material water proof, weather proof etc. Solved by designing furniture in a manner that a proper shelter is attached to it. It can be solved by keeping the material which is long lasting in accords with the existing environment or weather. Should use recycle able material By changing the mold Proper awareness of outdoor furniture to users.
Goals: • • • • •
To redesign the conventional outdoor furniture in order to reduce the cost factor. Main objective is to design lavish outdoor furniture with repetition of two parts. The clever use of male and female joints is worth consideration. Become slim, simple but stylish. Long lasting
