Getting to FALLS CREEK

By Car Getting to Falls Creek is easy and takes less time than you think. The Resort is situated in North East Victoria, approximately 4½ hours drive from Melbourne so an early start will have you at the Resort by lunchtime. From Sydney the drive time is around 7 hours. Take the Hume Highway North from Melbourne or South from Sydney or Canberra and you will soon find yourself amongst the scenic hills of the High Country. Mt Beauty is the base of your climb into the mountains and the last stop for fuel. From here you can stretch your legs, stop for supplies

and arrange snow chain hire (required in the winter season). Along the way take in the famed gourmet regions, quaint farmgates and historic goldrush towns of North East Victoria. The region’s great food and wine reputation is among the best in Australia.

By Coach There is no need to self-drive to Falls Creek. During winter Falls Creek Coach Services and FallsBus operate regular express services to the mountain from Melbourne and Albury. There is also a Park and Ride service from Mt Beauty allowing you to leave your car at the foot of the mountain.

During the warmer months private transfers are also available to take visitors to and from the Resort.

By Air With daily flights into Albury from most major cities, Falls Creek has never been more accessible. In fact, you can board a flight in Melbourne or Sydney and be in the Resort just 3½ hours later. From Albury it is an easy 1½ hour drive by hire car, coach service or private transfer. The choice is yours. Those wanting to arrive in style can even take a helicopter straight to the Resort with the Forest Air Heli-Shuttle.

Summer is HIKING There is country bushwalking, and then there is high country hiking! Mountain Trails Falls Creek has hiking trails to suit every skill level. The variety of terrain ranges from easy and relaxed ½ hour walks to more challenging day and overnight hikes. Explore spectacular landscapes of undulating plains, deep valleys and fields of alpine wildflowers. It’s not uncommon to see emus and wild brumbies along your way and even the endangered mountain pygmy-possum.

Wallaces Hut This icon of Falls Creek is one of the oldest structures in the Alpine National Park. Built in 1889, this historic hut offers a unique look into the lives of the early pioneers of the region. Easily accessible, Wallace’s Hut is an ideal location for photography, sightseeing or a mountain picnic in its grassy surrounds. The region’s resident Parks Victoria Ranger’s hold information visits here and at other historic huts in the surrounding region.

Mt McKay Mt McKay is Australia’s highest drivable point landmark. This peak also offers a great destination for a hike or ride. On a clear day you can see for hundreds of kilometres beyond Mt Bogong and Mt Feathertop and across the spectacular topography of the Victorian Alps. Find a nice spot to relax and toast the sunset with a glass of bubbly. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Summer is CYCLING From recreational peddlers to hill-climbing machines, riding has become Australia’s obsession and for good reason North East Victoria’s boom sport. Meandering rail trails, dramatic mountain curves and steep altitude climbs produce any number of road cycling adventures. Falls Creek is the pinnacle location with its world class High Country cycling.

Summer is RIDING Mountain Bikers get excited. This summer Falls Creek has something special for mountain bikers. Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve been busy for the past 2 years, sculpting and carving the newest trails in the Australian mountain biking landscape. In late 2013 we are pleased to announce the opening of 3 brand new cross country trails and one heart-racing downhill bash. Who said you need snow to get the adrenaline pumping? This is the second phase in a 4 year mountain biking development program that will see a total of 3 downhill and 11 cross country trails built in and amongst the

Resortâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ski runs. Falls Creek will be proud owners of one of the best mountain bike touring trail networks in Australia! Take the Summit chairlift up to the top during our downhill lifting season or take up the gravity shuttle bus â&#x20AC;&#x201C; new in 2013. Each of these services will run on selected dates during the green season so make sure you check the events calendar online to slot in your ride. Falls Creek will also have a variety of mountain bikes available for hire along with spares and accessories.

Summer is ADVENTURE Are you looking for more out of your summer holiday? Is adventure and exploration on your radar? Alpine Crossing The ultimate in High Country hiking is the trek between Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. One of Australia’s iconic hikes, this trail takes you through the heart of the Alpine National Park and past unique destinations like Wallace’s Hut and Mt Feathertop. Completed as a 3 day trek, newly installed eco-friendly camping platforms are available to make setting up camp all the more comfortable. For day-trippers, Falls Creek also offers a shortened single day route with helicopter or vehicle transfers to the Mt Hotham trailhead.

Horseriding Those who have seen the High Plains by horseback will tell you this is an experience not to be missed! Take up your mount and head out on a series of half, full and multi day packhorse rides throughout the region. All tours are offered under the guidance of expert operators with decades of experience riding the Bogong High Plains.

Segway Tours Falls Creek Outdoor Adventures offers a new range of fun and affordable tours and rentals in and around Falls Creek. At the heart of these fun activities are Segway tours. Summer is LAKESIDE Rocky Valley Lake High in the Victorian Alps you wouldn’t expect sailing, kayaking or paddle boarding. At Falls Creek, it’s our unique point of difference. Rocky Valley Lake is Australia’s highest major body of water and sits just over 1600m above sea level. Located within walking distance of the village, the lake is a big part of what makes Falls Creek such an unique holiday destination. You don’t need to be near the coast for a waterside summer holiday. With Rocky Valley Lake you have the perfect spot to cool off during a summer scorcher. The water is cool, clean and has a safe shore for swimming and paddling.

Summer is EXCITEMENT 3 Peaks Challenge March 9 2014 Bicycle Network’s Scody 3 Peaks Challenge is the ultimate test of strength and endurance. Staged across 235km of mountain road, cyclists take on 3 of the toughest climbs in Victoria in a single day event beginning and ending at Falls Creek. The Alpine Loop is certainly not for the feint hearted – the length and range of climbs are comparable to a Tour de France stage. Held each March on the Labour Day weekend, this is one of the biggest days on the Falls Creek calendar.

Dragon Boat Championships JanUARY 25-26 2014 One of the most popular events at Falls Creek is the annual Dragon Boat Championships. As the highest Dragon Boat regatta in Australia, this event has been held at Rocky Valley Lake for over a decade. The event is open to everyone with boats and tuition available. Combining a unique experience with a great social weekend makes the Dragon Boat Festival a great event for everyone’s ‘bucket list’.

Falls Creek Mountain Raid FebRUARY 15-16 2014 New in 2014, the Mountain Raid captures the unique spirit of Falls Creek in a 2 day navigational adventure race. This event is set to be fantastic as teams of 4 run, mountain bike, paddle and hike across Falls Creek’s incredible terrain. Pete loves winter time and when the snow covers the ground there is nothing he likes better than singing, dancing, skiing and playing with children who visit the Resort. Whether performing on stage, shooting the Fox Trail or cheering on the night show, Pete is a favourite with adults and kids alike.

Snowclub 4 Kids Snowclub 4 Kids is the number one place for skiing fun at Falls Creek. Whether kids have skied before or are complete first timers, 3 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 5 year olds will have the time of their life. The Falls Creek Snowsports Schoolâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s specialist program is designed 100% with little people in mind! Child Care For those a bit too little to spend the day on the slopes, Falls Creek Child Care is available. An Approved Child Care Provider (under the Early Years Learning Framework), the child care centre offers early childhood education and care for children aged 12 weeks to 5 years. What adult doesn’t’ remember their first time sliding down a snowy hill on a plastic toboggan? Take up an old family favourite at Falls Creek’s toboggan slope. With safety barriers, ample car parking and a dedicated area separate from downhill ski traffic, ‘Windy Corner’ is the perfect spot for some good wholesome fun. Afterwards, there is nothing better than a nice hot chocolate at the slopeside café!

Snowshoeing is the easiest and safest way to get out and experience the snow. Snowshoeing is also a great way to keep fit and see pristine landmarks in the Resort at the same time. Falls Creek now offers three dedicated snowshoe trails for beginners and intermediates. For first timers or skiers looking to try something new, our snowshoe trails are ideal.

Winter is CROSS COUNTRY Cross Country Skiing is one of the oldest (and newest) activities at Falls Creek. Since removing trail fees in 2011, Cross Country Skiing has exploded in popularity as more and more visitors ‘go Nordic’ for the first time. As a fun, safe and easy to learn activity, ‘XC’ is something the whole family can try together. You don’t need a lift pass to get on the trails so cross country is an excellent way to experience the snow on a budget. A purpose-built instruction and training area is also on hand to make the sport more accessible than ever.

Falls Creek is known as the home of Australian Cross Country Skiing for good reason. Not only is it home base for the Australian National Team but it also has one of the most expansive trail networks of any resort in the country. The Sled Dog Classic is an event unlike any other in Australia. This winter, take your place as the village’s snowy roads are transformed into Australia’s premier ‘Monaco’ style sled dog street circuit.

The Hoppet is an institution at Falls Creek and the largest international snowsports event in the southern hemisphere. In a big day of racing, the event offers a unique combination of elite sporting competition and great family fun.

There is no denying the stars of the show are the Huskies and Malamutes that take to the course. Racing under the village lights and night sky, teams of up to 6 dogs race through the familiar roads of Falls Creek for the ultimate prize of 2014 champion.

Competitors can chose from the 42km Hoppet or 21km Birkebeiner distances. For those wanting something a bit less intensive, the 7km Joey Hoppet is just the ticket. Competitors of all ages take part in the Joey each year as the ideal event for those new to the sport, or just wanting a bit of fun. This is a great way to get out on the snow and you will find yourself competing on the same course as the best in the world.
