WHEN YOU ARRIVE SNOW CHAINS All vehicles entering the Resort are required by law to carry snow chains (including 4WD’s). You can rent these at several outlets in Mt Beauty along the way. With regular snow clearing it is most likely that you won’t need to fit chains on your trip unless it is snowing heavily as you arrive (or the night before). If you do need to fit chains, do so in an appropriate bay on the left side of the road. If you are unsure whether you need to fit chains, ask when stopping at Resort Entry or call Visitor Information on (03) 5758 1202. You can also check the daily snow report for live chain fitting status at fallscreek.com.au.
RESORT ENTRY During the Snow Season all vehicles entering the resort need to display a Resort Entry permit valid for the length of your stay (including day of departure). Resort Entry Fees collected help fund essential village services such as Ski Patrol, Car Parking, Snow Clearing, Rubbish Removal and Maintenance of the Village and its roads.

VILLAGE ACCESS & CAR PARKING If you are staying for the day you can self-park in one of the Day car parks. For overnight stays proceed to the ATS Terminal on the main road where parking attendants will meet and direct you to an Overnight parking area. A free shuttle will return you to the terminal from your car. When there is no snow on the Village roads, the Village may be open for 30 minute vehicle access. You will be permitted to drive to your accommodation to unload within this time-frame. Once complete, return to the ATS and our attendants will direct you to a parking area. If you arrive after hours when no attendants are on duty, park in the after hours parking area near ATS. You will need to move your vehicle by 10:30am the following day. Make sure you obey all signage when parking and ensure your vehicle is parked completely within the lines of an approved parking space. Infringements apply for incorrect parking.
TIPS FOR DRIVING AT FALLS CREEK • LP Gas vehicles perform best on petrol in alpine areas. • Diesel vehicles should use alpine mix fuel (available in Mt Beauty). • E nsure you have adequate fuel - there is none available at Falls Creek. • Avoid sudden braking or acceleration when driving in icy conditions • Drive with your headlights on in foggy conditions. • D o not drive with accumulated snow on your vehicle, doing so is dangerous and creates hazards to other vehicles. • U se a stiff plastic scraper to clear ice from car windows (never pour hot water on an icy windscreen!). • You may need a shovel to dig your car out of the snow. • A lways fit chains when advised, it is a good idea if staying for a few days to fit chains when you park. Insider’s Guide | Winter 2015 9
VISITING WITH FAMILIES TIPS FOR A SAFE & FUN STAY • Young children should always be in the care of an adult. • P ut a name tag (including name, accommodation and mobile contact number) in your child’s pocket. • E xplain to your children that if you become separated they should ask the nearest Resort employee to call Ski Patrol - you do the same and Ski Patrol Base will match you up. • B ook your children into the Snowsports School. Not only will they meet other children but they will learn to ski or snowboard in the safest and most enjoyable environment. • R eview the trail map with older children to make sure they are familiar with Resort runs and lifts. • E nsure your children take regular breaks. Watch for signs of tiredness and make sure they drink plenty of fluids. • C hildren under 135cms will not be permitted to ride chairlifts without a responsible adult with a valid adult lift ticket. • S kiing or snowboarding with a child in a backpack/front pack is not permitted and lift access will be denied.
CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT FOR KIDS Always dress your kids as you would like to be dressed - including: • waterproof protective clothing (particularly jacket and pants); • beanie, face-warmer & waterproof gloves (unable to rent); • many layers of clothing (this is the best way to keep warm and manufactured synthetic fibres insulate better than wool); • helmet if skiing or snowboarding (hired at most rental outlets); • sunscreen and eye protection (sunglasses or goggles); • change of clothing (especially socks!); and • boots with tread for walking (gumboots not recommended) • R emember, little ones tend to lose things so be sure to label all equipment & clothing. 10 www.fallscreek.com.au

OUR ENVIRONMENT At Falls Creek the mountains, clean air and pristine alpine views are our greatest asset. The effects of climate change could dramatically impact the alpine region’s unique biodiversity. There are many things that you can do while you are here, and also at home, to minimise the amount of natural resources we use, to help keep our Winters as cool as possible.
KEEP WINTER COOL Fight global warming - www.keepwintercool.com.au 1.

OPEN 365 DAYS When the snow melts the Resort doesn’t shut down - it simply moves on to a new aspect with new activities at this stunning destination. Here are a few of the reasons why you should try Falls Creek in Summer.
ROAD CYCLING Falls Creek is one of Australia’s most desirable cycle destinations. Challenging climbs, an awesome backdrop and a village as cyclefriendly as they come makes riding Falls Creek a dream. This is highlighted in its status as host of the Peaks Challenge Falls Creek rated one of the world’s top ten best Sportives and Grand Fondos.
MOUNTAIN BIKING Falls Creek is a whole lot of mountain to use just 4 months of the year. This is why we’ve been hard at work developing an expansive mountain bike trail network to rival some of the best spots in the country. 4 trails are complete and ready to ride (3 XC singletracks and a DH flow trail) and a further 5 will be unveiled in the months following the 2015 snow season. Over the next 2 years a total 12 new trails are set to open in Australia’s next big thing in MTB.
FALLS TO HOTHAM ALPINE CROSSING One of “Victoria’s Iconic Walks”, the 37km Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing offers a 3 day, 2 night adventure trek between the Falls Creek and Mt Hotham alpine resorts. With eco-friendly camping platforms and an alternate single day route available, this is a challenging yet achievable addition to any bucket list.
TRAIL RUNNING & ALTITUDE TRAINING At over 1600m, Falls Creek presents arguably the nation’s best altitude training location. Spectacular trail running options, an expansive lake open water course and growth in events like the “Mountain Raid” Adventure Race & Trail Run give a taste of why Falls Creek is perfect for athletes wanting to train at altitude in Australia.
EVENTS We have an amazing range of events throughout the warmer months. With everything from Road Cycling and MTB Enduro to Dragon Boating, Food & Wine and High Country Adventure Racing. 48 www.fallscreek.com.au Check the website to find something that suits your taste.
