Establishing Healthy Mealtime Routines By Family Coach, Hannah Pekary
Parents have faced challenging times during lockdown — from disengaged teenagers to tensions caused by lack of space in the home for everyone to have their downtime. Since lockdown, there have been new challenges.
I’ve received calls from parents struggling to get the family back around the dinner table. This is an essential routine to establish as a family, and with the right approach, can be accepted quickly and easily. The key is to create a calm space for eating food, but a fun one too. Allow your children to talk about what they’re enjoying about any new routine — and discussing any dislikes allows your child’s view to be heard and respected. It can take time to form a new habit, longer still if you’re changing a few things in one go. The trick is to get everyone involved, so that you’re working together as a team.
