The Royal Mint Experience reopens after making one million ‘magic’ visors to protect the NHS.

The Royal Mint Experience has reopened its doors and although it might be a little different, it’s still the same place we know and love. Awarded Tourist Attraction of the Year in the 2019 Welsh Hospitality awards, the Mint is home to a variety of special coins, rare historical memorabilia and of course – the opportunity to lift a £400,000 gold bar!

Visitors also have the opportunity to strike their very own Iguanodon 50p and enter the world of spies, secret missions and money in the Currency Undercover exhibition.

Like many places in Wales, they are following government guidelines and have implemented a range of measures to ensure a safe environment for all. For example, there is a limited number of visitors per tour, per day — so booking a ticket is essential. The experience also has a one-way system and plenty of hand sanitiser stations throughout.

However, this isn’t the only thing that has changed at The Royal Mint Experience. During lockdown it became the site for producing more than one million visors to protect NHS employees.

This new challenge was a huge success. Within 10 days they were making one visor every two seconds and are now set to make a total of two million!

The Experience has now created a new section that explores the story behind the visors, so people can find out more about this incredible work and even see a production line in action.

The Royal Mint Experience is currently open every Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Find out more by visiting royalmint.com/experience.
