News & Views Pennypot Eco Farmers Looking Forward to a Bumper Crop Preschool eco farmers at the award winning Pennyypot Day Nursery in Chobham are planning a bumper harvest this year following a marathon planting session in the new allotment beds in their garden.

Win Six Months of Books Delivered to Your Home With Reading Chest! Children work so hard at school, only to find that following the long summer holidays, some of that progress has been lost. A little encouragement to read regularly over the summer holidays can prevent this ‘summer slide’ and get children off to a flying start in September. Reading Chest makes reading at home fun for children and easy for parents, by providing access to good quality, interesting books at just the right level of ability. Reading Chest members receive regular deliveries of books from schemes used in schools, such as Collins Big Cat, Oxford Reading Tree, Project X, Phonics Bug, Rigby Star and TreeTops. There are also other incentives such as reward charts, stickers, book bags and certificates. Children won’t be able to resist opening their own regular postal deliveries of exciting books! For more information and reading advice visit www.readingchest. co.uk.

Carol McDonough, Manager of the day nursery in Pennypot Lane, said the children will harvest the crop of fruit and vegetables for use in meals and snacks in the autumn. “The children love the activities and the learning opportunities are endless involving simple mathematics and science and underpinning our messages about respect for the environment and the importance of healthy lifestyles,” she said. To book a visit please contact the nursery on 01276 855886 or visit their website at http://www. childbasepartnership.com/pennypot-day-nursery.

Ripley Court School Goes Plastic Free Ripley Court School is delighted to announce that they are now a ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ Plastic Free School! By taking part in litter picks, writing to MPs regarding plastic usage, eco campaigning to supermarkets, reducing their bin bag usage and many other things, they have transformed the way in which the children think about waste and the planet. The Green Team will be revealing their ‘Plastic Free School’ plaque very soon! Set in 20 beautiful acres and easily accessed from the A3, Cobham, Weybridge, and Woking, Ripley Court is a fully co-educational school for children aged 3-13. Its secret for success is to combine strong academic rigor with important but less-measurable values in life, such as kindness, respect and fun. The school produces excellent results in exams, senior school entries and scholarships as well as success in sports, music and art. For further information call 01483 225217 or email registrar@ripleycourt.co.uk.

Reading Chest is offering a six month bronze membership to one lucky reader! For a chance to win, please email your name and telephone number to editor@ FamiliesSurreyWest.co.uk with Reading Chest Competition as the email title. Competition ends 24 July 2019.
