Learningtoswimistheonlyphysicalactivitywhichcansave yourlife.

Inrecognitionofthis,allschoolsmustprovideswimminglessons inKeyStage1or2(ages5to11),asastatutorysportwithinthe PhysicalEducation(PE)curriculum.

Inparticular,pupilsshouldbetaughttoperformsafeselfrescueindifferentwater-basedsituations;swimcompetently, confidentlyandproficientlyoveradistanceofATLEAST25 metresandusearangeofstrokeseffectively,forexample,front crawl,backstrokeandbreaststroke.

However,SwimEnglandrecommendsthatyourchilddoesn’t giveuponregularprivateswimminglessonsoncetheystart swimmingwithschoolasthesearecrucialtotheircontinued developmentandultimatelysafety.

TheaimofschoolswimmingandwatersafetylessonsduringPE aretoteachyourchildtobesafeinandaroundwater,withthe emphasisonwatersafety.
