Invisible goodness wrapped up in fun Perform founder, Lucy Quick tells us more. Perform classes are a bit like a pasta sauce that’s filled with hidden vegetables: kids think it’s really tasty and don’t realise that it’s full of healthy nutrition. I see our classes like this invisible goodness wrapped up in an hour of games, role-play, dance routines and songs. The children think they’re enjoying an hour of fun but they’re also being equipped with essential confidence-building social skills.

We all want our children to be happy, feel confident enough to try new things and interact well with others. Taking part in regular drama activities encourages confident and fluent speaking, boosts reading and writing abilities and enhances coordination and spatial awareness. Rescuing a mermaid from a pirate ship might seem like just imaginative improvisation for 6 year olds, but it’s teaching problem-solving and team-work too. Early drama, dance and singing lessons changed my life and helped shape my vision for Perform - to deliver classes with a specific focus on developing a child’s confidence and social skills - not to create just another drama school. Try a FREE no-obligation dance or drama class in Bramley, Basingstoke and Fleet Visit www.perform.org.uk/try and don’t forget to use code HN300420 to receive a £40 introductory discount when you book.

Perform weekly drama, dance and singing classes are available in North Hampshire at Clift Meadown Pavillion, Bramley, RG26 5BH (Drama 4-7’s, Fri 4pm & 5pm). Zebon Community Centre, Fleet, GU52 0ZE (Drama 4-7’s, Mon 4pm & 5pm, Tues 4pm. Drama 7-12’s, Mon 5pm & Tues 5pm) and Hatch Warren Community Centre, Basingstoke, RG22 4YF (Drama 4-7’s, Tues 4pm & 5pm).

Education news

Happiness and success at St Neot’s Preparatory School St Neot’s is a co-educational day school for children aged 2-13 years, where the number one priority is for the children to thrive socially and academically in a caring and stimulating environment. Our stunning 70-acre grounds and facilities include an arts centre, language and IT suites, state of the art sports facilities, an Innovation Room and a range of outdoor learning stations. Through specialist teaching, children experience the breadth of the curriculum in a fun, engaging way, aimed at igniting a lifelong zest for learning. Forest School, Outdoor Learning and Leadership Days encourage children to venture outside their comfort zones, to take risks and develop the drive to make the most of their talents in life beyond school. St Neot’s is a PSB (Pre Senior Baccalaureate) school, aiming to prepare children for life in senior schools, whilst developing academic and character skills. It does so by actively developing and tracking the core skills of independence, collaboration, communication, thinking and learning, reviewing and improving and leadership.

Treating every child as an individual at Jubilee Gems Nursery Childcare providers must ensure that every child at their setting is included and supported, regardless of ethnic background, culture, language, gender, socioeconomic background or disability. At Jubilee Gems nursery in Padworth, Berkshire, all children are welcomed and included, respected and listened to. The nursery team promote positive attitudes to diversity and differences in children, valuing the contribution and achievement of all. Focus is placed on the child’s individual interests and needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The nursery follows these principles of including and supporting every child. Ensuring every child can participate in activities; provide resources that reflect the background of each child; accurately track and observe to create next steps; follow individual interests and use these to promote development; avoiding giving children labels and ensuring children feel happy and secure to develop; treat all children equally and with respect and remember any development is a great step forward for every child. Discover more about Yateley Manor School this Spring The key to a successful education is twofold. Firstly, create an environment where children feel safe: A warm, friendly school where there is much laughter, where adults care about individuals. Secondly, success comes from a well-planned and effective transition programme to ensure children and families understand each step of the journey ahead. There should be no surprises when moving to a new school. A happy child will be a successful child. A good quality education should develop the whole child. By really getting to know children, understanding their passions and strengths, appreciating their barriers to learning and taking steps to remove them, Yateley Manor are able to open their eyes and minds to a bright future. The foundation to their lives will be a safe, friendly, warm environment where they will be supported every step along their journey. A Yateley Manor journey. Easter fun

ANDOVER BASINGSTOKE

There is so much to see and do in North Hampshire this March and April. Here are some of the highlights for the whole family to enjoy in Basingstoke, Alton, Bordon and surrounding areas.

Pups to the Rescue at Festival Place this April No job’s too big, no pup’s too small for the plucky pups of PAW Patrol – and fans will be able to get up close to all their favourite characters at Festival Place this Easter. The Basingstoke shopping centre will host the stunning PAW Patrol brick trail from April 3 to 14, featuring 21 characters and models from the hit Nick Jr. TV show. BRICKLIVE has used hundreds of thousands of brightly coloured bricks to build models of Chase, Marshall, Skye and gang, which will pop up all around the centre. Festival Place is inviting families to put their noses to the trail and sniff out all the colourful characters, as well as a two-metre Lookout Tower and a sit-in Marshall’s fire truck, built from a whopping 153,718 bricks. Each model will have an information stand detailing the number of bricks used and how long they took to build. Trail maps will be available to collect around the centre, and families completing their map should pop them in the PAW Patrol post box in the Customer Lounge to be in with a chance of winning a family fun day at Festival Place. For more information on this free event visit www.festivalplace.co.uk
