News and Views Be careful with music
G Live and busylizzy Launch New Baby Cafe
A new survey by Baby Sensory has discovered that many parents are unaware of the risks of playing music through headphones to their baby bump. The research by the baby development classes found that 89% of parents are unaware of the risks involved when playing music to their unborn child: that the amniotic fluid within the womb actually doubles the level of decibels a child hears from 60 to 120. Baby Sensory founder, Dr Lin Day says, “It is widely researched and publicised that playing music to an unborn child helps mother and child bond and assists with brain development, which I fully support. However, the problem with playing the headphones directly on the abdomen is that the amniotic fluid works as a conductor of sound and can amplify the music which causes it to be far louder for the baby. This can, in some circumstances, lead to hearing problems for the child from birth.” Find out more at www.babysensory.com
In addition to a great range of family shows in its Main Hall and studio space, G Live has now opened a friendly new Baby Café in its spacious foyer. Featuring a tasty children's menu, and a designated safe area for your little ones to play with toys and facilities kindly provided by Aspace, it enables you to relax, catch up with friends and enjoy a well-earned coffee and pastry. New “Phone Home” Service
Mural for Cranleigh Medical Centre
Two thirds of all parents with children using their own mobile phones worry about them being unable to contact home in an emergency situation because they have no credit left on their mobile. IRN has launched a new “rescue” service called 68700 – The Phone Home Number, to ensure that youngsters can always call home for free with or without credit. Parents pay £3 per month on their telephone bill and their children then dial 68700 for direct calls home. They also have the option of calling either their mum or dad in separated families. www.68700.co.uk
Cranleigh Decorative and Fine Arts Society and Cranleigh Arts Centre have been invited to create a piece of art for permanent display at Cranleigh’s brand new medical centre, due to open October 2012. An eight-metre high wall to ceiling space in the central atrium is ready to showcase the work of local young creatives. They are inviting local young people aged 12-18 to help them create a series of tiles to represent Cranleigh in 2012. To book onto one of the sessions to create a tile call 01483 278001 or email ctrmanager@ cranleighartscentre.org
Simple precautions with iPads allay health concerns By Joanna Parry
As you get your children ready for this new term, you might invest in an i-pad for both pleasure and work, however some parents are growing concerned about their children’s use of iPads, as even babies and toddlers are now playing with them. The International Agency for Research and Cancer and the World Health Organisation now classify the radiation emitted in WiFi mode as possibly carcinogenic to humans. According to some studies the radiation from WiFi devices can weaken the brain’s protective barrier, and children’s brains, cased in a thinner skull, absorb more microwave radiation than an adult’s. The radiation exposure from wireless devices is constant and there are concerns that this cumulative exposure might be damaging in the long-term. The problem is that this exposure generally starts young and continues throughout children's lives, while the body and nervous system are still developing. The worry is that it is experimental – we don’t know about the cumulative effect of such long-term exposure starting at such a formative age. “These technologies are developing faster than our ability to understand potential health impacts,” says Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, Executive Director of Healthy Child Healthy World. “We're not asking parents to not buy or use them, we're simply asking them to take precautions. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to our children's health." The Council of Europe now advises that children’s exposure should be reduced, so if you are concerned about the effect your iPad might be having on your child, you could take the following precautions:
• Turn the WiFi button off and turn it to Airplane mode to reduce emissions • Don’t let your kids hold the iPad too close to their bodies. To reduce risk of Sponsored by £2 donation per family ALL proceeds to The Safe Delivery Trust (The charity behind the maternity unit @ RSCH)

headaches, blackouts, seizures and eyestrain, avoid prolonged use and use in a well-lit room Don’t leave the iPad on your child’s nightstand or near where they’re sleeping Limit their use! The UK Chief Medical Officers advise that children under 16 should use mobile phones for essential purposes only, and to keep calls short, so perhaps the same should apply to iPads Some studies show that even if your iPad isn’t connected to WiFi and is just on standby mode, radiation can still be emitted. It looks like there needs to be more research done before we can all rest easy!

Bread binned could fill a double decker bus a day Every day in Surrey people throw out enough bread to fill a double decker bus. And enough salad was binned in the county this summer to fill an Olympic size swimming pool. The startling statistics form part of Surrey County Council’s Love Food Surrey campaign which is encouraging people to waste less food. Through shopping smarter and reusing leftovers, it’s estimated the average family could save up to £50 on their monthly shopping bill.

Not sure if your little one is ready to start potty training? Research shows that around the age of two is the best time. In fact, nappies could be ‘masking’ that your child is ready.
Look for the clues…… Can your child communicate with you? Does he/she have good physical skills, such as being able to walk and climb stairs? Can he/she take direction, like being shown how to wash hands? If you answer yes to these and your little one is around two or more then don’t be afraid – go for it!

2 Start to change your child’s nappy in the
bathroom to help show that poo and wee belong there.
3 Stop using nappies and nappy-style training
pants and put your little one in ‘grown-up’ pants. (You can pop in a Dry Like Me pad to catch accidents)
4 Talk to your child about where the potty or toilet is and what he/she should do.
5 Pop your child on the potty or toilet 20 minutes after food and drink. Do this in the bathroom when you can.
6 Accidents are a key part of learning. When
your child has little accidents, remember that they will be starting to understand and react to what’s happening. This awareness is key to making real progress, so try not to use a product that makes it difficult for them to realize they have had an accident.

time, but try not to get too stressed. It can help if you turn any anger or frustration towards the accidental poo or wee! “What a naughty poo!”
8 Keep early trips out short and take a potty in
a carrier bag. Make sure you talk about where the potty is and what your child should do.
9 Ignore the ‘potty Olympics’ – don’t compare
your child’s progress with others. Potty training takes on average 4 – 6 months. Focus on what you and your child are doing well and build from there.

Have a go at stage combat, clowning and even starring in your own music video! “In 2007 I founded my Academy of Performing Arts to re-create for new generations of children the happy times I experienced at the drama school I attended as a child. Since that time, many children have attended PQA classes in Comedy & Drama, Film & Television and Musical Theatre. At PQA, they learn skills that are applicable not just to a career in performing arts but in everyday life too. It builds confidence by the bucket load, creates bonds, teaches respect, and even how to listen. At PQA, children from the age of 4 to 18 years old can learn these skills in a safe, fun environment.”

Schools & Education SUPPORTING YOUR LEFT HANDED CHILD 1 in 10 children are left handed, but many fail to get the support they need in the early years of their education. Experts say teachers aren’t given the proper training and schools don’t have the right resources. Sarah Butters is mum to a left handed daughter. She takes a look at some of the most common problems faced by left handers and some tips for helping them out.
MESSY HANDWRITING If you have a child who is left handed, chances are they haven’t been taught to write. Most are simply allowed to use their left hand. As the right handed parent of a left handed child I admit to having that same attitude. I now know that I was completely wrong. Left handers push the pen across the page, whereas their right handed friends will pull. This can lead to smudging and untidy work which in turn leads to anxiety on the part of the child. At an early stage a left handed child should be encouraged to master the correct handwriting position and paper placement to avoid problems as the writing assignments increase. The paper should be rotated to 45 degrees with the hand and wrist below the writing. Any pen needs to be held in a strong 3 point grip. In Early Years this can be supported with a triangular bodied pencil or a moulded grip around a regular pencil. If your child can get into good habits from the start of their school life, they will avoid problems when they graduate to a fountain pen and longer writing assignments.
HOOK GRIP Some left handers use a hooked grip to avoid the problem of smudging, and angle the pen in the same way a right hander would. This causes more problems than it solves. The hook grip becomes more uncomfortable the more you write. It leads to an overtight grip and aching hands which in turn lead to messy handwriting. The wrist should always be below the writing line. If your child is developing a hook grip, consider introducing a sloped surface to resolve the problem.
ELBOW COLLISION At some point your child will have to share a desk and if they’re left handed this can be a problem. “I always end up banging elbows” explains my 9 year old daughter. “That makes my writing messy.” You child should always be placed at the left hand side of a shared desk or next to another left hander. This gives them plenty of space to get their paper positioned correctly and avoid knocking elbows with a right handed neighbour.

MIRROR WRITING I remember being hugely concerned when I discovered that my daughter had completed a Reception assignment using mirror writing. She had begun her words on the right hand side of the page and written from right to left. It’s common in left handed children and when you think about it, it makes sense. If they are sat next to a right hander, they are simply mirroring their work. Encourage them to start on the left hand side of the page by placing a coloured star in the margin as a reminder.
COMPUTERS Most ICT rooms are set up with the computer mice on the right hand side of the keyboard. This gives left handed children an automatic disadvantage because they either need to move the mouse or attempt or use their right hand. Don’t presume the teacher knows your child is left handed. Be sure to let all the staff involved with your child know they’re a left hander and will need a different workstation set up.
THE ‘RIGHT’ EQUIPMENT Many left handed children learn the basics with the wrong equipment. Give a left handed child some right handed scissors and they’ll find the blade is upside down and so they can’t see the line they are cutting. It means the child has less control and thinks of themselves as messy. This can be a real problem in the Early Years. Check your school has left handed scissors to offer your child. Ambidextrous scissors don’t exist – trust me! As they progress to writing, shiny barreled pens are to be avoided. Make sure whatever pen you choose has a good grip so it’s easy to hold even when hands get hot and tired. Left handed fountain pens are available from www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk. They’re worth the investment for older children as they have an angled nib.
LACK OF UNDERSTANDING As a right hander, I never appreciated the challenges faced by my daughter. Until she mastered left handed writing, she was labeled untidy in her written work and lost enthusiasm for putting pen to paper. It wasn’t until I began researching this piece that I realise how much of her attitude is linked to the hand she writes with. The bad news is she’s had a more challenging time than her right handed pals. The good news is she’s in good company. Barack Obama, Leonardo Da Vinci and Bill Gates are all lefties. Now that’s not a bad club to be in!
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE Keith Milsom campaigns for better support of left handed children in our schools and offers some advice about what to expect from your child’s school. “Despite decades of campaigning and a string of promises from government ministers and teacher training authorities, there is still virtually no guidance provided to teachers on helping lefthanded children and no process for identifiying left-handers in schools. Make sure you talk to your child’s teacher to make sure they know that he/she is left-handed and may need assistance and advice. Ask your child’s teacher to talk YOU through the support they’re going to give it so you can be sure they really understand. If you’re concerned, refer them to the teacher guidance sheets available from www. anythingleft-handed.co.uk. The school should have left-handed scissors available and pens that will help left-handers write in the correct style. If children are left to their own devices it is very unlikely they will find writing and cutting out easy. Apart from the practical difficulties this can mean they are working more slowly than the rest of the class and lose some of their confidence - especially if the teacher tells them off for “not doing it right”. Lefthanders can end up underperforming at school and having difficulty with written exams as a result of a lack of informed guidance at an early stage. It’s important parents keep the pressure on schools to support their left handed children.”

WHITE BOARDS
Win an Attach a Tag Dolphin!
They’re a teacher’s best friend but a left handers worst nightmare. White boards and chalk boards are a great learning tool in the modern classroom - pupils can get rid of mistakes easily without using endless pieces of paper. However, if you’re left handed you can end up erasing as you write. Good grip and placement of the board gives left handers half a chance. However if your child isn’t completing white board work quickly or neatly enough, it may not be their fault.
Attach a Tag is the revolutionary way to label clothes and other treasured possessions. By using the innovative applicator, parents can name-tag clothes, hats, pencil cases, ballet bags and more in seconds. All name tags are laser etched with the child’s name, easy-to-read, and guaranteed not to come off. The simple applicator known as a “dolphin” is easy to use - children can even do their own naming and they’ll probably even enjoy it! The etched Attacha-Tags are reusable, but new retainers are required when re-applying (these can be bought from the website). Available from www.attachatag.com it is just £22.20 (+p&p) for the applicator and 30 personally-etched re-usable tags. We have one to give away to a lucky reader. For your chance of winning just go to www.FamiliesSurreyWest.co.uk/Competitions

Schools & Education Give your child a head start at school with online teaching resources Searching for additional resources that can be used at home to support your child’s school learning can be a daunting task as there are so many questions to cover: What teaching system should I be using? How much should I pay for resources? How long should we be spending working at home? How much support and guidance should I be giving my child? One of the resources currently available in the market place is Reading Eggs. The Reading Eggs program is all online and can be used on a computer, laptop and most tablets (with an iPad it can be accessed through the free educational app Rover due to flash compatibility) making it instantly attractive to children. The program has been designed for 3-7 year olds but is also suitable for older children who are struggling with reading. There are currently 120 reading lessons which take children who have little or no reading experience right the way through to them reading books confidently. In addition
to the reading lessons there are also a series of spelling lessons, an introduction to comprehension and grammar, a story factory where children can put together their own books, plus additional educational games and activities to keep children motivated. It uses a teaching system of phonics supporting what children are learning at school.
Kumon’s maths and English study programmes work to develop your child’s confidence and independent study skills so they excel throughout the new term and beyond.
For older children who can already read there is the next level of the program, Reading Eggspress, which has been designed for 7-13 year olds. This program focuses on comprehension and grammar, writing and reading fluency and uses a highly engaging spinning island to draw and keep attention.
To unlock your child’s potential, contact your local Instructor for a Free Assessment:
Reading Eggs offers an obligation free trial for all new users. All free trials and subscriptions include access to both Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress. To trial the program for 5 weeks free simply visit www.readingeggs. co.uk, click the ‘Parents click here’ button and follow the set up instructions. Once your account has been activated and you have added a child enter code UKB24SRW.

Schools & Education Tips on Choosing an Independent School
F&F Schoolwear 2012
»» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» »» 20
Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important early decisions you will have to make. Here are a few things to think about and consider when making your choice.
Firstly, try and visit the school on a normal day as well as an open day, especially if the open day is on a Saturday and the children aren’t in class. Do you want a single sex or a mixed school? Last year we featured this topic in our schools feature, to read both sides of the debate see www.familiessurreywest.co.uk/choosingaschool Look at the facilities, but remember that the teachers are the most important part of a school so make sure you see lessons in progress and ask about staff turnover - some movement is healthy, bringing fresh ideas: too much indicates dissatisfaction and can be disrupting. Do you want a school that goes all the way through to GCSEs and A-Levels/International Baccalaureate, or would you like your child to go to a prep school that doesn’t have a senior school? If it does have a senior school, what percentage of children stay on? If the school finishes at Year 6 or Year 8 then find out which schools the children go on to. Where is the school located - remember to do the journey in the morning rush hour to see how long it takes when considering a school a bit further from home. Does the school offer any bursaries or scholarships? When you visit, look at the pupils in the final year or two, as these are the product of the school. If you are shown round by a pupil, ask them lots of questions as you will often get an honest answer - such as “what one thing could the school improve?” . What extra curricular activities are offered and when - are they at lunchtime or after school? If you are a working parent ask about wrap around care and how flexible this is, can you book into after school care the week or day before? Do they run a holiday camp in the school holidays and what hours does it run? What is the communication like with parents, it’s important you know who to talk to if you have a problem or concern. Who is responsible for pastoral care? What are the class sizes, are children streamed and at what age and in what subjects? At the top end of the school are they taught by subject specialists? How do they treat/identify special needs children on both ends of the spectrum? Enquire about the extra help available for children who are above or below average in a particular subject. Has the ‘Jamie Oliver effect’ reached the lunch menu? Look for a sample if you can, and ask the current pupils what they think of the school food. Does the school have an active PTA, and what sort of social activities does it organise? Listen to the Head’s address if there is one and talk to him or her too. A good school will have an inspiring, enthusiastic and committed headteacher, supported by a loyal and united management team - and it will show. Don’t be shy of asking lots of questions and trust your instincts as you know your child better than anyone else. Remember to visit schools early, as some can get booked up and once you have chosen the best school for your child, you want to make sure you get a place! ®

Dyslexia By Berry Baker, Moon Hall College and Bury’s Court School
O
ne in ten people are dyslexic to some degree, research suggests. Despite being bright and articulate they struggle with reading and spelling and can be disorganised. Dyslexia runs in families, although not everyone in a family will inherit the gene responsible and be dyslexic. Parents who are dyslexic can often recognise it in their children at an early age. The most effective method for teaching all children how to decode words that they have not seen before is a carefully structured phonic system. The current change to using phonics in schools should enable a majority of children to read fluently. However, a non-dyslexic child might remember a word after seeing it a maximum of fifty times, but a severely dyslexic child, who cannot hold a picture of a word in visual memory, might need to decode a word over a thousand times before he or she can recognise it without sounding it out. This is why dyslexic children fall behind the rest of the class and need early help by a dyslexia specialist to enable them to reach their full potential. No two dyslexic people are alike in their difficulties, but spelling is almost always harder for dyslexics to master than reading. In order to spell we need to have a picture of the word in our head. People who
have a very poor visual memory cannot do so. They are the classic word blind dyslexics. Because many dyslexic children have poor working memories and need longer to process what they read, they can find it very difficult to work as quickly as their friends in class. They work well in small groups with teachers who use multisensory methods with lots of revision done in interesting ways. There are advantages to dyslexia. People who are dyslexic often have a highly developed right brain that makes them very good at three dimensional thinking. Many gifted artists, architects, engineers, musicians and entrepreneurs have been dyslexic. Fortunately there is much more help available for dyslexic children and adults nowadays. With the right support dyslexic people can find their talents and lead highly successful lives despite their ‘hidden handicap’.
Mrs Berry Baker is the Principal of Moon Hall Schools Educational Trust. The Trust runs Moon Hall School in Holmbury St Mary, a specialist school for dyslexic children aged 7 to 11, and Moon Hall College and Burys Court School in Reigate, which provide specialist education for dyslexic pupils from Nursery up to GCSE.

Schools & Education Independent Schools Round Up Aldro School ‘Bringing out the best in boys’
Manor House School - Success without pressure
Nestled in the village of Shackleford, Godalming, Aldro is a day and boarding prep school where boys aged 7-13 enjoy an outstanding all-round education. The school is set in a wonderful, unspoilt rural location that is, in many ways, a haven for children. The boys have the freedom and space to keep hold of their precious childhood and, combined with high academic standards, are meticulously prepared for the next stage of their lives.
From Nursery to GCSE, girls at Manor House are treated as individuals and their needs supported in order for them to flourish. Small class sizes enable girls to be offered differentiated work, allowing them to achieve their best. A range of activities in music, sport, art and drama also gives the girls the opportunity to shine in different spheres.
Academic life has to be at the core of a successful school and Aldro has an outstanding record of success over the past ten years with many scholarships won to senior schools. Boys develop the ability to take the initiative with their work – whether boarders or dayboys they complete their prep at school and this is an invaluable study skill for the future. Bringing out the best in your son is Aldro’s goal, it is the reason we are here, to prepare boys for the rest of their lives. Contact Mrs Spall on 01483 409020 or email hmsec@aldro.org to attend the Open Morning, or to arrange an individual appointment with the Headmaster.
St Ives School Choosing the right education for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Happy children make the best learners and at St Ives we aim to foster a love of learning, nurture curiosity and help girls see the world from a wider perspective. St Ives is a truly independent, non-selective preparatory school and prides itself on the broad range of senior schools it feeds locally and beyond. Senior school scholarships are often awarded to girls at St Ives and this year has been no exception with a record number of nine academic and nonacademic scholarships or educational awards for senior schools in Guildford and the local area. Small class sizes, specialist teachers, including dedicated SENCO support, ensure that every child is able to reach their full potential. Curriculum subjects are brought to life through outdoor learning and Forest School which is available to all children and is included in the timetable from nursery through to Year 3. Tormead Junior School Where learning is fun Tormead is an academically selective independent day school for girls aged 4 to 18. They value individuality, celebrate diversity and encourage girls to be themselves, whilst emphasising equally the value of tolerance, teamwork and collective responsibility. They are proud of their ethos of encouraging each pupil to develop her talents to the full. The academic pace offers stimulus and challenge, but is combined with an excellent range of extracurricular activities enabling Tormead to offer a broad but balanced, stimulating and progressive education, all underpinned by an emphasis on the pastoral care of the pupils allowing them to carefully monitor the progress and welfare of every girl. The most recent ISI report (May 2011) reported that the Early Years provision was outstanding and that the girls made excellent progress in all areas of the curriculum, particularly their social and emotional development. Tormead welcomes you to visit them at the next Open Day or call the Registrar, Cherry Scott on 01483 796040 for more information.
Glenesk School The Early Years are so important and at Glenesk they create a secure, stimulating and happy environment in which young children thrive. Glenesk Nursery was awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2009/2010. Their experienced and friendly Nursery staff ensures that 2 year olds are gently introduced to school life with Dance, Music and Drama included in their timetable. In Kindergarten they follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum with the addition of French. Once in full time school all core curriculum subjects are taught to a high standard, in small classes, by a dedicated team of qualified staff. Pupils benefit from a varied Creative Arts and Sports programme including football, netball, gymnastics and swimming in their indoor heated pool, all taught by specialist staff. The school meals are 100% Organic and cooked on site. They offer an Early Morning Club and a range of after school activities. Life at Glenesk is fun so do visit the school! The Amesbury Experience
Edgeborough
Amesbury, a co-educational day school for children aged 2-13, is opening its doors on 18th October 10am-12pm. In the last Academic Year, Amesbury topped an already impressive record of arts and sports occasions with a series of dedicated events including a week-long Arts Festival (www. amesburyartsfestival.co.uk) and it’s very own Olympic Week. The school also celebrated its best ever set of Common Entrance results with all pupils successfully winning places to their first choice school. “We aim to find the right school for the right pupil, rather than ‘feed’ a particular school” states Nigel Taylor, Headmaster. This is reflected in the wide range of first class senior schools the pupils graduate to.
Edgeborough, with its 50 acres of mixed woodland and playing fields, offers a wonderful environment for children.
September heralds the start of Amesbury’s annual residential trips. Year groups are travelling to Snowdonia, Normandy, Shropshire and Ypres in Belgium. If you are interested in finding out what makes Amesbury different then contact Liz Wright on l.wright@amesburyschool.co.uk. Open Morning – 18th October 10am-12pm. Early Years “Stay & Play” – 7th November 9.30am – 11.30am.
24
The key to everything is pastoral care: girls who are happy and secure in their environment will be relaxed in the classroom and achieve results consistently above expectation. In Summer 2011 64% of GCSE grades were A* or A and 12 out of 43 girls achieved all A* or A grades.
The school is distinctive in its setup and comprises: Nursery (2-4), Pre Prep (47), and Prep (7-13). The Nursery was awarded ‘Outstanding’ in its latest Ofsted Inspection and the children enjoy huge outdoor play spaces, outdoor classroom, French, Music, Ballet and Cookery. The Pre Prep, with its small class sizes, take advantage of the extensive sporting and academic facilities available to the whole school. It uses the highly successful Read Write Inc and Mind Lab programmes. There is a Breakfast Club and After School Club. Lessons include Science, Art, ICT, Design Technology, French and Music. From Edgeborough, boys and girls go on to a wide range of top Independent Schools at 13+ via Common Entrance or Scholarship. Weekly and flexible boarding is a popular option. If you would like to arrange a personal tour of the school please call 01252 792495 or visit the website www.edgeborough.co.uk

With small class sizes, the staff know the children extremely well and are able to tailor an individual, rigourous, academic education to suit each child. Scholarships are offered in Year 3 and Year 7 with awards of up to 50% to those with talents in academia, art, music and sport. Barfield children are often outside: regularly attending forest schools and playing on ropes courses and adventures from Three Peaks. Sport is important at Barfield. An indoor pool enables them to swim all year, right from age two. The next open day is on Saturday 22nd September 2012. Halstead School is an independent Nursery and Preparatory School for girls set in leafy grounds in Woking, Surrey. The friendly and positive atmosphere in the school lays the foundation for girls to develop confidently and happily in specialist facilities and lovely outdoor play areas.
Situated between Guildford and Leatherhead, Cranmore has a magnificent 25-acre site with outstanding facilities including music school, multiple pitches, tennis courts, swimming pool and adventure playground. Encouraging every child to reach their full potential, Cranmore works to bring out the best in every boy as the excellent academic, sporting and musical results will testify. Boys move onto a range of senior schools and over 160 scholarships have been won in recent years. The school works towards an area of excellence for each boy and the wide range of extra-curricular activities from skiing to choirs, judo to orchestras supports this aim. As part of a broad education that best prepares them for the future, boys are encouraged to pursue music and drama in the purpose-built music facilities which include an auditorium.
The ISI inspection confirmed high adult to child ratios enable children to have good individual attention and children are happy, motivated and content to come into school right from the beginning. The inspection also confirmed that the school provides a high quality education and teaching is of a high quality. Just as important as the academic subjects is their emphasis on the performing and creative arts and sports; all taught by specialists. Life skills and environmental awareness are also nurtured.
