Amalie Robert Estate was founded by Dena Drews and Ernie Pink in 1999. We left the corporate world behind, and began a journey to grow Pinot Noir in the last best place on earth. We found a beautiful cherry orchard, and the opportunity to follow our dreams. Today, Amalie Robert Estate is a 60-acre property with 30 acres of sustainably-farmed vines and a state of the art, gravity flow Pinot Noir winery. We are stitched into the sedimentary foothills outside of Dallas, Oregon. In our second careers, the guiding principle is stewardship. We are the vineyard managers and winemakers. We are students of the vineyard, and class, it seems, is always in session. Our efforts in the field are rewarded with Pinot Noirs that are true to the soil and true to the vintage. What’s the story behind the name? Amalie Robert is a combination of Dena’s middle name, “Amalie” (pronounced AIM-a-lee) and Ernie’s, “Robert.”

Bethel Heights Vineyard is a family-owned and operated winery located in the historic Eola Hills northwest of Salem. Brothers Ted and Terry Casteel and their wives, Pat Dudley and Marilyn Webb, established the vineyard in 1977 and released their first wines in 1984. Over the past several years Bethel Heights has expanded to include second-generation leadership and ownership. Terry and Marilyn’s son, Ben Casteel, now helms the winemaking team, and Ted and Pat’s daughter, Mimi Casteel, is the general manager and viticulturalist. Other family members are involved with various aspects of the business, truly making Bethel Heights a family affair. Planted between 1977 and 1979, Bethel Heights was one of the first vineyards in the Eola Hills. The estate vineyard encompasses 50 planted acres of Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot gris, and Pinot blanc, and the family also owns the adjacent Justice Vineyard, planted between 1999 and 2001 to 20 acres of Pinot noir. In 2008, the family purchased nearby Ingram Lane Vineyard, with 22 acres planted to Pinot noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. The winery produces 13,000 cases of premium wine annually, specializing in own-rooted, old-vine Pinot noir and Chardonnay. Aromatic white varieties including Pinot gris, Pinot blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Grüner veltliner sourced from both the estate vineyard and other Oregon sites round out the Bethel Heights portfolio. The family is known for its generous service to the Oregon wine industry over the years. They have long demonstrated leadership in building sustainability and stewardship of the land into all aspects of growing grapes and making fine wine.

Sams Valley Vineyard in Southern Oregon is home to Cliff Creek Cellars, owned and operated by three generations of the Garvin family. For 100 years, our family has been devoted to Oregon agriculture. Today, we nurture the estate vineyards with the same meticulous care as our ancestors. Sams Valley Vineyard lies in the Rogue Valley appellation of Southern Oregon. We planted our first vines in 1999 an now have approximately 70 acres in vineyard. Our site is oriented to a southwestern exposure at 1400 ft. elevation. The vineyard is known for its unique terroir of Medford loam with a strain of volcanic ash. The soil composite, in addition to a high heat index and lack of rain, allows us to create complex fruit with intense flavors and exceptional balance. We have taken extra care in choosing our varietals to match our sight. We feel that the long growing season allows us to produce the highest quality fruit of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet, Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese.

Cristom’s founder and owner, Paul Gerrie, used his skills as an engineer and avid researcher to pursue his passion for wine. On his travels to France, he was introduced to the traditional growing practices of the Burgundy region. He learned that soil and site were key in developing the complexity of the fruit. After a 1991 visit to the International Pinot Noir Celebration in Oregon, Paul decided the time was right to leave the East Coast and bring his family and his passion for great Pinot Noir to Oregon’s burgeoning wine country. But their journey wasn’t complete without a winemaker who shared Paul’s vision of “letting the land make the wines.” Enter Steve Doerner (pictured above) who, after 30 years of experience, still believes the winemaker’s job is to “optimize what nature—the vineyard— provides.” In addition to his reputation as a master winemaker with “keen intuition”, Steve is a biochemist who had been making Pinot noir in California for 14 years. And so, with a passion that only wine enthusiasts embrace and a precision that can only come from a chemist and an engineer, the two set out to cultivate their vision, which today, can be seen in the benchmark Pinot noirs that are crafted from Cristom’s 75 acres.

While waiting tables to put himself through school, Ken Wright was exposed to fine wines from regions around the world. His passion became avocation when Ken attended enology and viticulture classes at UC-Davis. He then spent eight years winemaking in Monterey County. A trip to the Dundee Hills in 1982 convinced him that this was where the finest Pinot noir in North America was being grown. In 1986 Ken moved to McMinnville and started Panther Creek Cellars. His concept of focusing on vineyard-designate bottling began during those years at Panther Creek and was cemented as a core philosophy in 1994 when Ken Wright Cellars was founded in historic downtown Carlton. A Chardonnay from Celilo Vineyard in Washington State and a Pinot Blanc from the Willamette Valley added to the winery portfolio and in 2001, an additional label was launched, Tyrus Evan. The wines are from fruit sourced from the Del Rio Vineyard in Oregon’s Rogue Valley, and from the Red Mountain and Walla Walla areas in Washington State. Ken was instrumental in organizing the six new American Viticultural Areas in the Northern Willamette Valley and currently serves as the association’s first President. Ken’s most recent undertaking was the funding of a winery for the viticulture program at Chemeketa Community College. These accomplishments were recognized in 2005 when Ken was awarded the VINI Award at Classic Wine Auction for a lifetime of service to the wine industry and Oregon’s community at large. He is also, the only Oregon producer to be rated as “outstanding” in the last two Robert Parker buying guides.

Mahonia Aquifolium, named by Lewis and Clark on their epic journey to the Pacific, is the Oregon state flower and our vineyard’s namesake. Also called “Oregon Grape” because of its blue berries, this Northwest native and our winegrapes both thrive in the unique habitat of our site in the Willamette Valley foothills. We sell our fruit to some of Oregon’s best winemakers for their own vintages, and in turn, they craft a limited amount of wine exclusively from our grapes that we sell under our Mahonia Vineyard label. Our grapes are grown sustainably in our family-owned vineyard. We generate solar power, use locally-produced biodiesel, are Salmon Safe and LIVE Certified, and were one of the original participants in the Oregon Carbon Neutral Challenge Initiative sponsored by the Oregon Environmental Council. Our definition of profit includes giving back to Oregon communities, especially through programs benefitting children such as Family Building Blocks, and those benefitting the environment such as SOLV.

Sineann, with winemaker Peter Rosback, is a small producer of highly intense wine in Yamhill County, Oregon. We source our fruit from some of the best vineyards in the world ; Pinot noir and Pinot gris from the Willamette Valley and the Hood River Valley, Cabernet, Merlot and Zinfandel from the Columbia Valley, Gewurztraminer from the Willamette Valley and the Columbia Gorge , Cabernet and Merlot from the Napa Valley and Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from New Zealand! Our growers have great pride in the grapes they provide us. Almost all our wines are vineyard designated. No expense is spared in our pursuit of great wine. Crop levels are kept very low, one to three tons per acre. Winemaking is meticulous. All fruit is hand-sorted, delicately de-stemmed, punched down by hand, gently pressed and gravity-racked. The wines are aged in new and one-year old French oak. The bottom line is, we strive to make great wine. It’s the only kind of wine that makes it onto our dinner table. It’s exciting to make and gratifying to share. We believe that food and drink, lovingly prepared, make for happier and healthier people.

St. Innocent was founded in 1988 by its winemaker and president, Mark Vlossak. We produce small lots of handmade, vineyard-designated wine from some of the best sites in the Willamette Valley. Since our founding, we have grown from 600 cases that first year to our current production of 8-10,000 cases, yet each wine is still handcrafted in the very same manner. Year after year, St. Innocent Winery has received recognition from throughout the country and around the world for its outstanding Pinot noir, beautifully-crafted white wines, and fair pricing. Mark’s raison d’etre is to produce wines that reflect their terroir, the specific qualities of the vintage, and his vision of wine’s place in life: to complement and extend the pleasure of food. To accomplish his goal, he picks fully ripe fruit at the point of maximum complexity and ferments the fruit to extract the exact balance of flavor and tannins desired. This produces wines that display their unique fruit character as well as secondary flavors specific to the terroir of the site: spice, pepper, mushroom, earth, etc. The result is wines with higher acid levels and diverse yet harmonizing flavors.

This retains the natural acidity and provides discipline in the finish. The combination of Estate grown Dijon Clone fruit from sedimentary soils, stewarded with very little winemaking intervention results in unrelenting aromas and flavors. This is an Oregon Chardonnay that exemplifies the true character of the vineyard, vintage and the variety. 2007 Vintage Debut Pinot Noir Vintage Debut is the first Pinot Noir released from the vintage. This wine provides an introduction to the vintage and Amalie Robert Estate. As is the case with all of our wines, this bottling is 100% Estate grown and hand harvested Pinot Noir. 2009 Pinot Noir Resonance
Pretty much every year, our best Pinot Noir is from the Resonance Vineyard. Kevin and Carla Chambers meticulously care for their vineyard using biodynamic techniques. We hang two tons per acre or less on the vineyard, which accounts somewhat for the big mouthfilling texture of the wine.
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Lazare
This vineyard is a two acre plot in the Oak Knoll district of the world class wine producing Napa Valley. We cropped down to 2.8 tons per acre in 2008, continuing our efforts to make concentrated, complex Napa Valley Cabernet. The most impressive aspect of this wine is its beauty. It is remarkably pretty for such a big wine. Somewhat feminine, almost seductive . . .

TASTING WINES Willamette Valley Vineyards 8800 Enchanted Way SE • Turner, Oregon 97392 • 503.588.9463 www.willamettevalleyvineyards.com
2008 Tualatin Estate Pinot Noir
The stylistic vision is pure Pinot Noir fruit with a soft juicy mouthfeel, balanced oak and soft, sweet ripe tannins. Picked at peak ripeness, the fruit was gently destemmed, with approximately 50% of the berries remaining intact for intra-berry fermentation. Prior to fermentation, the must underwent a 4 day pre-fermentation cold soak providing improved fruitiness and mouthfeel. On the fourth day, the must was inoculated with indigenous yeast. After 8-12 days of fermentation in small ¾ to 1½ ton fermenters (punched down by hand), the must was pressed out with about 1% residual sugar and allowed to settle in the tank overnight. The new wine was barreled with light, fluffy lees where it finished primary fermentation and underwent malolactic fermentation.
2009 Pinot Gris
Bright and refreshing. Aromas of pear and green apple, with flavors of key lime, kumquat and lemongrass. A classic Oregon style. Depth of extract, richness, big mouthfeel but with elegance and ability to age. The grapes were picked at peaked ripeness and the whole clusters were then lightly pressed. The must was cold settled and racked to another stainless tank where it was inoculated with 3 special strains of yeast which promote a rich mouth feel. Fermentation lasted approximately 5 weeks at 55-60 degrees F. The wine was sur-lee aged, stirring the tank twice monthly.
2008 Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir
An elegant Pinot Noir with layered aromas and flavors of cherry, black pepper, plum and dark chocolate lead into a long spicy finish. The stylistic vision is pure Pinot Noir fruit with a soft juicy mouthfeel, balanced oak and soft, sweet ripe tannins. Picked at peak ripeness, the fruit was gently destemmed, with approximately 60% of the berries remaining intact for intra-berry fermentation. Prior to fermentation, the must underwent a 4 day pre-fermentation cold soak providing improved fruitiness and mouthfeel. On the fourth day, the must was inoculated with indigenous yeast. After 8-12 days of fermentation in small fermenters (punched down by hand), the must was pressed out with about 1% residual sugar and allowed to settle in the tank overnight. The new wine was barreled with light, fluffy lees where it finished primary fermentation and underwent malolactic fermentation.

Salem, Oregon Jonathan’s “Oyster Bar” has been a Salem classic since 1979. Originally founded by Jonathan Cunningham and named “Union Oyster Bar,” it was located in the alley off State Street. In the early 1980’s space became available at 120 Liberty Street and Jon decided to expand by constructing the “Long Bar” and Jonathan’s Oyster Bar was born. In 2009, Casey M. Lucas took over and moved the operations to 136 High Street SE, to what has become Salem’s “Restaurant Row.” Casey was born in Salem in 1974 but grew up in Stayton. The youngest of five boys (God bless his mother), Casey graduated from Regis High School and continued his education, graduating from Pepperdine University in 1999. After a stint at Willamette University College of Law, Casey moved to Palm Desert, California where he owned and operated Casey’s Restaurant and Lounge for almost 8 years. Leading the helm in the kitchen is Executive Chef, Christopher Rayburn. Chris started his career at the “Hind Quarter” in 1979 and moved on to Old European Inn before joining Jonathan’s Restaurant in 1986 where he leads a kitchen that continues to serve some of the best seafood, steaks and Cajun food in the Willamette Valley. With the addition of their “Bar Small Bites,”there is something for every palate. And like days of old, Jonathan’s has once again become the “hot spot” for the power players that walk the halls of Oregon’s State Capitol building. We encourage you to join us at our new location!

LIVE AUCTION SPECIAL APPEAL
Hold me • Talk to me • Cherish me Who we are today was largely determined by who we were busy becoming at ages one, two and three. If there was someone who encouraged you to explore, read you your favorite book, let you know you were pretty close to perfect, chances are you made it through high school, got that first job, and are able to find joy in enduring relationships. So much depends on what happens at the beginning. During the first three years of life, the brain undergoes its most dramatic development. When this early development is damaged, the brain’s architecture is affected and young children begin to fall behind. That’s what too often happens in families who face challenges like unemployment, depression and homelessness, or when the parents of young children were abused or neglected themselves. FBB’s Therapeutic Classrooms serve at-risk families with children ages six weeks to five years old. These classes help foster social/emotional development, language skills and problem-solving. Families also receive monthly home visits aimed at improving parent-child attachment and keeping families together. These supports help children be successful later in school, at work and in life. Your support can make a difference. Let’s not waste another neuron.

Rare Beaux Freres Vertical ’91 thru ‘09
A once-in-a-lifetime package! This will be your only chance to own and enjoy Beaux Freres’ entire history of winemaking. And the history is mighty impressive. Wine Spectator continually rates their wine as “highly recommended,” scoring every vintage between 90 and 94 points. Each of the 19 bottles is personalized by winemaker Mike Etzel with memories of each vintage. For example, he notes on the 1991 bottle, “this vintage was not released to the public.” Because it was not released, the 1991 vintage is extremely rare and nearly impossible to obtain. On top of all that, you are invited to a private barrel tasting of the 2010 vintage. Make sure to book this tasting before they bottle it at the end of this summer. 1991 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1992 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1993 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1994 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1995 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1996 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1997 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1998 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 1999 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir 2000 Beaux Freres Estate Pinot Noir

Pheromone by Christopher Marley Original artwork by Christopher Marley “Lanternfly” Signed book “Pheromone: The Insect Artwork of Christopher Marley” Private gallery tour with artist for 20
Local “designer” Christopher Marley provides artwork with a unique and refreshing new view. His assemblages of unusual and exquisite insects, minerals, fossils, botanicals and deep sea organisms are cutting edge couture. Christopher’s artwork has been featured on CBS, CNN, Oprah at Home, New York Times, Town & Country and many more respected publications. The world is certainly taking notice and respecting his vision and appreciation of nature. About this piece: Lanternflies are an almost iconic bug in many tropical parts of the world because of their luscious, muted colors as well as their singular morphology. The bizarre projection that appears to be an elongated snout actually emanates from the top of the head. The common name “Lanternfly” stems from the erroneous belief held for centuries that the bugs were capable of illuminating these mysterious, hollow cones. Size 20” x 24”. Even more: Christopher also includes his book, “Pheromone The Insect Artwork of Christopher Marley.” Meet the artist and have him sign your new book during a private tour for 20 at his posh gallery on Liberty Street in downtown Salem.

Wine should come from a beautiful place. Everything we do, we strive to do in harmony with the land, keeping the vineyard pristine, the soils healthy and the farm life rich.
Ron Cooper Photography
Sustainability speaks to the vision we have of our job as winegrowers. The fruit from outstanding wines can only come from beautiful origins. It is our commitment to respect the land, the vineyard, and the wines that come from our site as things of great beauty, to be carefully and lovingly tended. We are caretakers only. We are charged with delivering this parcel of land to the next generation with healthy soils, intact biology and a vineyard that has a brighter future ahead than even its greatness of the past. Everything we do, we try to do with the attitude of “we’re doing this forever, don’t cut corners, don’t make short-run decisions.” 2008 was a glorious year with flowering quite late on July 2nd and warm sunny days into the 4th week of October yielding perfectly ripe fruit harvested on October 19th. The yields in 2008 were miniscule - about 1.6 tons per acre and so our Pinot noir production was 16.5 barrels - about 400 cases. We made 2.5 barrels of Tempranillo so we should be better than 60 cases there - almost double our 32 case production last year. Our 2008 Pinot noir production will be down 37% from 2007, and 2009 production will more than double from 2008. Hey, its farming! About 58% of the production is Pommard clone from block 6-G with the remainder from blocks 7-A 113 clone and 7-D 777 clone. We used 7 new out of the 16.5 total barrels or 42% new French oak on average. Because of the small lot size the 113 and 777 wines were co-fermented. The wines are exceptional. Great concentration, wonderful fruit and round mouth feel. The Tempranillo will be our best effort to date - really a fun wine to drink. We bottled the Pinot noirs on March 18th for a Memorial Day release.
