Bogdan began farming in 2008. La Creole Orchards, located in Polk County, grows 17 varietals of olives, primarily for production of extra virgin olive oil. Bogdan has worked with experts from Italian and French universities, UC Davis, and with a dedicated group of local growers to determine through trial and error the olive varietals most suited to Oregon’s climate. Bogdan co-founded and serves as Executive Director of the nonprofit Olive Growers of Oregon (OGO). On behalf of the group, he has pushed for recognition of Oregon’s significant potential to produce ultra-premium extra virgin olive oil. His efforts were rewarded in 2017 when OSU agreed to begin an olive research project that will look at olive tree cold hardiness, productivity, and propagation of olive varietals in Oregon. As a six-year-old, Wil was already fanning the flame of recipe tasting and menu development. Rummaging through his dad’s cupboards, he created the “Pepper Peppermint,” a flavorful combination of candy canes steeped in water with black pepper and every other spice he could find in the cabinet. Needless to say, that recipe didn’t make the cut, but his culinary skills definitely improved as he became an adult. The recipe that did stand the test of time was a balanced mix of business management, cooking at Laurelhurst Market, and a Type A personality. White Pepper was birthed from a love of serving people, the thrill of planning a large event, and seasonal and responsible procurement. “We started small. It really was just my wife and me doing everything. Our goal was to bring really great and beautiful food to catered events all around Portland. It was always our plan to set ourselves apart from everyone with our food quality, the beauty of our presentation, and our exceptional customer service. Needless to say, we found a great demand in the market and grew very quickly! Here we are, four years later, with an entire team of folks running the business alongside us! ‘Eat Well ~ Live Well’ speaks to the combination of food and life. People gather in their kitchens over dinner, have cookouts in their backyard, and celebrate holidays with a feast. That combination of food and life is an experience we all know so well. If we can help make that experience unique and unforgettable, our job is fulfilled.” Daily, you’ll find Wil with a chorizo burrito in hand, managing operations, marketing, and, of course, testing new, better recipes.

WINERY

Argyle Winery was founded in 1987 by Rollin Soles with the purpose of growing and making world class sparkling wine in the perfectly suited, cool climate of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Argyle Winery’s focus on growing grapes for sparkling wine framed their perception of and orientation toward making world class chardonnay, riesling, and pinot noir. Most importantly, making sparkling wine impressed upon them the need to develop the patience and flexibility to think long-term. From the beginning, the touchstone for Argyle Winery has been continually challenging themselves to do what is best for the future and to make wines that will have long lives, improving with age. Argyle Winery farms three vineyards: Knudsen Vineyard, Lone Star Vineyard, and Spirit Hill Vineyard. They have been producing world-class methode champenoise sparkling wine, barrel-fermented chardonnay, and silkytextured pinot noir from low-yielding vines on winery-farmed hillside slopes since 1987. Located in the heart of Dundee Hills, Knudsen Vineyard has been Argyle Winery’s foundational fruit source. Knudsen is the home of America’s first commercial planting of Dijon clone chardonnay. Knudsen Vineyard is Argyle Winery’s home for Spirithouse Pinot Noir and their single-vineyard designated Argyle Winery Blanc de Blancs. Since 1999, Lone Star Vineyard has served as the backbone for Nuthouse Pinot Noir, their biggest and boldest pinot noir. In spring 2005, Argyle Winery released their first vintage of Lone Star-grown riesling, which, incidentally, is the New World’s first high-density, cutting edge riesling. The high-elevation Spirit Hill Vineyard supports Argyle Winery’s continuing goal to farm 100 percent of their own wine grapes, continuing their dedication to making world class sparkling wine in the Willamette Valley.

TASTING NOTES

2014 Argyle Winery Vintage Brut The 2014 sparkling wine vintage in the Willamette Valley was pristine, showcasing the enticing generosity and focused definition the region has to offer. The pinot noir-dominated blend provides impressive red-fruited dimension to the ripe pear, fig, and roast hazelnut. The middle palate is invigorated with dynamic acid backbone and edgy minerality, bringing balance and concentration to the long finish.

Authentique Wine Cellar’s focus is single vineyard designate and small lot Oregon pinot noir, chardonnay, and skin contact pinot gris. They push the boundaries of their capabilities each and every vintage in order to do their best work at all times. The foundation for the wines begins with the highest quality grapes grown by family and friends who farm organic, biodynamic, and own rooted, old vine vineyards. Authentique’s Keeler Estate Vineyard designate wines capture the essence of the Demeter Biodynamic and Stellar Organic certified vineyard belonging to Nicholas’ family. The vineyard is located on a southwest sloping hillside in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. To the west and southwest lies Oregon’s coastal mountain range where fresh Pacific Ocean winds move through the Van Duzer Corridor cooling the vines nestled on a pristine hillside near the small town of Amity, Oregon. Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in the Willamette Valley, Nicholas had the opportunity to meet some of Oregon’s pioneering winemakers at a young age. His mother, Gabriele, manages the Keeler Estate tasting room and his great grandfather, Johannes, was a wine merchant who traveled throughout Europe sourcing fine wines. His father, Craig, has a passion for his biodynamic vineyard and recently constructed a beautiful new winery on the family estate where Nicholas makes his wines. Wine became Nicholas’ passion and he began making small lots of pinot noir with the help of his friends Felix Madrid from Carlo & Julian Winery and David Lloyd Jones from Bryn Mawr Vineyard. He continued his education through UC Davis correspondence winemaking classes, passed his first sommelier exam, and worked many harvests in the cellars of world class wineries. Thanks to a recommendation from Rick Deferrari, proprietor of Oregon Barrel Works in McMinnville, Oregon, he has more than 11 years of experience as the North American Sales Director for Tonnellerie Allary.

TASTING NOTES 2014 Authentique Wine Cellars Coats & Whitney Vineyard Pinot Noir Authentique’s new vineyard designate series begins in 2014 with the Coats & Whitney Vineyard located in Oregon’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA. New strawberries, vanilla bean, graham, clover, sassafras, supple, great open texture, earthy, elegant, and picks up energy in the finish. 18-month élevage in new Tronçais and neutral French oak barrels. 2014 Authentique Wine Cellars Keeler Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir A blend of the top 14 barrels from the family’s meticulously farmed biodynamic certified vineyard. Apricot skins, bergamot, white peach, wildflowers, in perfect balance of strength and grace, big mid palate, summer fruit, and cherry opens to fine structure. Succulent and good acidity holds through a very long finish. 18-month élevage in new Tronçais, Fontaiebleau and neutral French oak. 2015 Authentique Wine Cellars Keeler Estate Vineyard Chardonnay Mouth-filling richness, creamy lemon tart, sea spray, and toasted meringue. Many inquire about how Authentique’s chardonnay differs from others. The answer is they rely heavily on the philosophy of fine-tuning the processes and techniques at every stage, vintage after vintage. Authentique strives to nurture the most complex, rich, and fresh example of their flagship white wine for your cellar. Authentique uses only the finest selection of fruit from the family’s biodynamic vineyard unique to others in the valley, with its shallow sedimentary and volcanic soils laced with fossilized mollusks and vine rows teeming with beneficials. Quantities of this wine rarely exceed 150 cases each year and it is anticipated that bottles of Authentique Wine Cellars Keeler Estate Vineyard Chardonnay will become more difficult to procure.

Bethel Heights Vineyard was established by two families in 1977 in the EolaAmity Hills of the Willamette Valley. Twin brothers Ted and Terry Casteel and their partners Pat Dudley and Marilyn Webb left careers in academia and bought 75 promising acres, fourteen of which had newly planted grapevine cuttings in the ground. By 1979, 50 acres were planted and in 1984, the first estate wines were produced. For the first 30 years, Ted grew the grapes and made the wine while Pat and Marilyn ran the business. In 2006, Ben Casteel, the son of Terry and Marilyn, took the helm as Winemaker while the rest of the family continued to play supporting roles. Over the years, the Estate Vineyard has grown to 100 acres and includes the adjacent Justice Vineyard, planted in 1999. The original 50 acres of own-rooted pinot noir and chardonnay vines planted in the 1970’s continue to provide the backbone of Bethel Heights Vineyard wines. About 10,000 cases of wine are 100 percent estate-grown and produced each vintage: 75 percent pinot noir, 15 percent chardonnay, and the remaining a combination of pinot gris and pinot blanc. The initial infatuation with pinot noir that brought the family to the Willamette Valley has not diminished. Gnarly old vines, geologically complex hillside soils, and direct impact from Æolian winds create highly energized wines with firm backbones, depth of character, and distinctive personalities. Nine different bottlings of estate-grown pinot noir and chardonnay each year barely begin to tell the tale.

TASTING NOTES

2015 Bethel Heights Vineyard Æolian Estate Pinot Noir There is a certain section of the lower west side of the Estate Vineyard where the Æolian winds coming through the Van Duzer Corridor from the sea impact the vines most directly. This section includes two blocks of pinot noir planted in 1996. Now aged 20 years, those vines have embraced their relationship to the wind, developing unique, high-tension patterns of flavor and structure in their fruit that are the essence of the 2015 Æolian Pinot Noir. 2015 Bethel Heights Vineyard Estate Chardonnay The 2015 Bethel Heights Vineyard Estate Chardonnay has all of the characteristics you look for from truly great, warm Oregon vintages: energy, tension between the acidity and fruit, a suppleness and body in the mid palate, and a long, harmonious finish. This wine should age gracefully over the next seven to 10 years. 2015 Bethel Heights Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir Aromas of black cherry and black pepper over subtle hints of cassis, sandalwood, and cola. The palate is broad and brooding; the heat of 2015 brought on thicker skins resulting in the added structure apparent in this young wine. Vibrant acidity helps keep the young wine in balance. This wine should age gracefully for a decade or more.

In June of 1996 Caroline Biggio left work at the Little Nell in Aspen to move to Oregon and open a restaurant in McMinnville. In September of that same year, Todd Hamina left his job as a distributor in Denver to start as a vineyard worker at Archery Summit. He met Caroline on his first day in McMinnville. Ten years and two kids later, they launched Biggio Hamina Cellars where the entire focus is on representing the vineyard as accurately and as beautifully as possible. Whole cluster fermentations are utilized as often as deemed sensible, which is oodles. All fermentations start off spontaneously as commercial yeast is eschewed. The wines are punched down by hand or foot twice a day, and enzymes are never added. It is not unusual to have total vatting times between 30 and 50 days as the wines ferment slowly at low temperatures in order to have such beautiful perfumed romance leap from the glass. Todd and Caroline are not messing around. Once the wines have slept for a long enough spell and are ready to be captured in the bottle, they will rack once for the very first time. Since Biggio Hamina Cellars owns their own bottling line, they can make this capture at the perfect moment. Every wine is different so it’s nice to have many perfect moments. Once the wine is ready, it is bottled without the use of inert gas, a vacuum, any fining, or filtration. Imagine the grapes coming out of the vineyard and into the winery, with the only additives being hard work and dedication. This is the basis for what they do: extremely low intervention wine making to yield the best of the farmer’s work with the winemaker staying out of the way. They hope you love it! If you have any questions, contact Todd at the number on the back of the bottle. Cheers!

2010 Biggio Hamina Cellars Zenith Vineyard Pinot Noir Twelve barrels are selected to represent the 2010 Biggo Hamino Cellars Zenith Vineyard Pinot Noir. It was made utilizing 47% whole cluster and is vivid red. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas include red fruit preserves, potpourri, and smoky minerals, with an exotic black cardamom nuance in the background. Sweet, sappy, and incisive, with a more elegant character to its raspberry and cherry-cola flavors than the somewhat wild nose would suggest. Closes sweet, focused and very long, with lingering floral notes and a hint of tangy minerals. All of this deliciousness comes from Zenith Vineyard where two blocks of pinot noir, Pommard, and 777 clones are blended to make this delightful, age-worthy wine. Enjoy!

Founded in 1998, Brooks Wines is a reflection of visionary Portland native Jimi Brooks. His reverence for the land and vines made him a practitioner of organic and biodynamic farming. The great respect for vineyard individuality and mastery of blending allowed his wines to achieve the greatest depth, flavors, and balance. While Jimi is no longer with us, his dynamic spirit lives on through his wines, family, and friends. With the outpouring of generosity and friendship from the Oregon wine community, Brooks Wines is delighted to share that they are stronger than ever with the addition of their new winery in Amity, Oregon. Jimi’s son Pascal is the sole owner of their winery and Jimi’s sister Janie Brooks Heuck has volunteered her time to lead their winery. Christopher Williams continues to make their wines in the same thoughtful manner as their founder. Brooks Wines is steadily guided by the legacies that Jimi left. His strong commitment to organic and biodynamic farming in the vineyards, gentle approach to winemaking, and excitement for future harvests are put into action each day. Brooks Wines’ pinot noir and riesling are grown and produced in Oregon. Visit Brooks Wines’ tasting room daily from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Cristom Vineyards began a quarter of a century ago as a collaboration between an engineer and a biochemist who each possessed a deep-rooted respect for the land, the natural winemaking process, and pinot noir. Twenty-five years later, secondgeneration winegrower and owner Tom Gerrie leads winemaker Steve Doerner and the tenured viticulture team in tending the estate vineyards and producing elegant, dynamic wines, recognizable by Cristom Vineyards’ hallmark style of whole-cluster fermentation by native yeasts. Cristom Vineyards’ winemaking philosophy begins with respect for their land and estate vines. They’re proud to be Certified Sustainable by Low Input Viticulture & Enology (LIVE), both in the responsibly-run winery and in their fields which are thoughtfully and meticulously farmed with a focus on quality. The four estate pinot noir vineyards named for Gerrie family matriarchs are Eileen, Jessie, Louise, and Marjorie - each possessing natural variances in soil, elevation, and exposition. With minimal intervention during the winemaking process, Tom, Steve, and team strive to craft wines that are an honest recording of both the vineyard and the vintage, producing the ultimate expressions of the stellar fruit they feel fortunate enough to work with. Recognized globally as a leading producer in our beloved Willamette Valley, their wines continue to be a unique blend of tradition, modernity, and finesse.

TASTING NOTES 2015 Cristom Vineyards Eileen Vineyard Pinot Noir The Eileen Vineyard is named for Eileen Gerrie, Cristom’s co-founder and mother of second-generation winegrower/owner Tom Gerrie. Original planting of the Eileen Vineyard began in 1997 and was later expanded in 2006, resulting in a total of 16.61 acres (6.72 hectacres), making Eileen their largest estate vineyard. Perched atop the Cristom estate, Eileen is also their highest-elevation vineyard, with commanding views of Oregon’s Cascade Range to the east and Coastal Range to the west. Eileen’s maritime climate features moderately warm days with especially cool nights, allowing the vines to retain acidity, and produce intense aromas and flavors. 2015 Cristom Vineyards Estate Chardonnay Since its very first release in 1996, the Estate Chardonnay has been barrel fermented and with a full malolactic fermentation to achieve a lush and creamy texture. Only three barrels and seventy-five cases of this wine are made annually, making it one of the rarest estate wines Cristom produces. 2015 Cristom Vineyards Mt. Jefferson Cuvée Pinot Noir Mt. Jefferson Cuvée is a blend of the Cristom estate pinot noir vineyards along with exceptional fruit sourced from neighboring vineyards in the Willamette Valley. These contributing sites have been thoughtfully selected over the years, and are planted on a variety of soil types, elevations, and aspects, representing the Willamette Valley Appellation as a broader whole. Each of these vineyards is farmed by committed winegrowers and valued partners. Each site adds to the character, fruit, and structure of the wine, giving “Mt. Jeff” its deserved reputation as one of the most stylistically consistent pinot noirs in the world.

Denison Cellars was launched in 2009 by Tim and Denise Wilson, with a focus on creating wines of elegance and grace using fruit sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards on outstanding vineyard sites. They are focused on creating single-vineyard wines that highlight the attributes of these vineyards, as well as fostering a long-term relationship with the families who own them. The winemaking techniques employed are based on minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard and vintage to be the focus of each bottling. All winemaking activities are in the hands of Tim, and he has identified two outstanding vineyards to support his vision: Kiff Vineyard, owned by Joel and Laurie Kiff, located in the southwest portion of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, and Johnson Ridge Vineyard, owned by Scott Johnson and Terri Fisher-Johnson, located on Walnut Hill at the north end of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Each vineyard has unique attributes that shine through in the single vineyard wines that are created from them. Each provides wonderful components for blending their Willamette Valley pinot noir and, in outstanding years, the barrel select reserve tĂŞte de cuvĂŠe pinot noir. Denison Cellars is a true boutique winery with an annual production of fewer than 1,000 cases. Tastings are conducted by appointment at the winemaking facility of Biggio-Hamina Cellars, just outside of McMinnville, Oregon.

Each has unique characteristics: 667 provides mid-palate volume and dark red fruit flavors; 777 adds bright red fruit; and Pommard adds plum, mineral notes, and structure. The resulting wine is dark ruby in color. It has rich mid-palate volume, velvety tannins, and a long, seamless finish with flavors of Italian plums, ripe raspberry, cherry, and underlying hints of anise and cinnamon. 2016 Denison Cellars Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Fruit for the 2016 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from three different vineyards located in the Eola-Amity Hills and Yamhill-Carlton AVAs: Kiff Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA with 667, 777, and Pommard clones; Johnson Ridge Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA with 777 and Pommard clones; and Cassin Vineyard, also in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA with the Wadenswil clone. Each vineyard and clone contributes a unique characteristic to the blend, adding to the overall depth and complexity of the wine. The resulting wine is dark ruby in color and displays deep aromas of ripe mixed berries and black cherry. With hints of mineral and spice, the ripe, velvety tannins provide structure for rich, mouth-filling volume. Flavors of dark red and blue fruit persist into a long, lingering finish. 2017 Denison Cellars RosĂŠ of Pinot Noir The fruit was sourced entirely from Kiff Vineyard; clonal composition of the blend is 62% Pommard clone and 38% 777 clone. This wine displays brilliant pale ruby color with wonderful aromas of cherry and Ambrosia apple. Flavors of cherry, fresh raspberry, an underlying hint of pink grapefruit, and minerality persist into rich mid-palate volume. Bracing acidity creates beautiful balance into the long, seamless finish.

WINERY

J.L. Kiff Vineyard is a small-production winery located in the hills of the YamhillCarlton AVA, close to McMinnville and Carlton, Oregon. Joel (the ‘J’) and Laurie (the ‘L’) Kiff purchased 81 acres of an historic cattle ranch in 2004. Joel started planting their nine-acre vineyard in 2005 and has done the majority of the vineyard work since. The vineyard is on a southwest facing slope in volcanic soil, a category unusual to the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, and is 450 to 600 feet in elevation. It has been dry-farmed with no supplemental irrigation since 2015. The first J.L. Kiff Vineyard vintage produced 130 cases in 2010 and, through the 2016 vintage, Joel worked alongside winemaker Tim Wilson of Denison Cellars in a shared wine facility. The year 2017 was an exciting one, as the wine was made in a new on-site winery with Joel as the primary winemaker, and a new Tasting Veranda opened, both just steps from the vineyard. Together, Joel and Laurie make around 1,200 cases of estate pinot noir and personally share their wine with guests in the Tasting Veranda. Today, like the Oregon wine industry 30 years ago, visitors interact directly with the people who grow the grapes and make the wine. Joel and Laurie are honored to support Family Building Blocks and happy to share their wines with you!

TASTING NOTES

2011 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir The 2011 growing season was unusually cool, and the fall rains held off just enough for an early November harvest. This 2011 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir is a classic Oregon cool-season wine, with delicate fruit and floral aromas, and balanced acidity. The watercolor label art is by Erin (Kiff) Sullens. 210 cases produced. 2012 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir The 2012 vintage was one of the most ideal growing seasons in the Willamette Valley, with plenty of warm summer days followed by a cool fall. This 2012 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir has balanced complexity, concentrated flavors, and velvety tannins. The pen and ink label art is by Adam Kiff. 312 cases produced. 2014 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir The 2014 vintage was a warmer-than-average summer, with larger grape clusters and a higher proportion of Dijon clones than the 2012 vintage. This created a wine with dark red fruit, soft-ripe tannins, and wonderful mouthfeel. The pen and ink label art is by Adam Kiff. 465 cases produced. 2016 J.L. Kiff Vineyard Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir In making the 2016 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir, the skins were left to soak three to four days longer than a traditional rosé, which created a fuller-body style and a brilliant color. Harvested fully ripe, this rosé partners beautifully with a wide variety of food, from summer barbeque to more robust fall flavors. The watercolor label art is by Erin (Kiff) Sullens. 105 cases produced.

Sineann, with owner and winemaker Peter Rosback, is a small producer of highly intense wine in Yamhill County, Oregon. Sineann sources fruit from some of the best vineyards in the region, including: pinot noir and pinot gris from Willamette Valley and Hood River Valley; cabernet, merlot, and zinfandel from Columbia Valley; and gewurztraminer from Willamette Valley and Columbia Gorge. Sineann recently started making wine from Napa Valley. Sineann growers take great pride in the grapes they provide. Almost all of the wines are vineyard designated and no expense is spared in the pursuit of great wine. Crop levels are kept very low at one to three tons per acre. Winemaking is meticulous. All fruit is hand-sorted, delicately de-stemmed, punched down by hand, gently pressed, and gravity-racked. The wines are aged in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. Sineann strives to make great wine that is exciting to produce and gratifying to share. Peter Rosback believes that food and drink, lovingly prepared, make for happier and healthier people.

TASTING NOTES

2014 Sineann Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon From two vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills: a nose redolent of cassis, blackberries, and black cherry, with spicy highlights punctuated by hints of black pepper. Balance is the key. This wine weighs fruitiness, earthiness, silliness, a slight astringency, richness, and enough acid for a scintillating finish unmarred by tartness. 2015 Sineann Abondante Blend The 2015 Sineann Abondante Blend is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and zinfandel. The zinfandel weaves a smooth fabric between the Bourdeaux varietals, while supplying a long, rich finish. 2015 Sineann New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Notes of passion fruit and jalapeĂąo dominate the nose. The wine is full and flavorful, with racy acidity that creates a clean, bright quality with a refreshing finish.

BREWERY

Gilgamesh Brewing is owned and operated by the Radtke family in Salem, Oregon. Founders Mike, Nick, Matt, and Lee Radtke started their brewery in an out-building on small acreage in the foothills south of Salem in 2009. The family brewers developed their unique brews, frequently using non-traditional ingredients, on repurposed dairy equipment. Their beers quickly became popular with the local community and outlying areas. Gilgamesh Brewing outgrew their facility by 2011 and began looking for a new location. They refurbished their new facility in late 2012 on an amazing three-acre lot and dubbed it, “The Campus.” A large family restaurant and pub with a fantastic outdoor patio sits adjacent to the rehabilitated Pringle Creek. The property also has a large outdoor event area which works great for large parties, reunions, and weddings. The large manufacturing building houses their new state-of-the-art brewing facility. Their high-efficiency brewhouse reduces energy, water, raw ingredients, and labor to provide a more sustainable product. The brewhouse also gives them the freedom to create new and unique beers to keep their customers on their toes. Much of Gilgamesh Brewing’s success can be attributed to their awardwinning and unique brew Mamba: brewed with black tea and tangerine peel with only a smattering of hops. A light-flavored and smooth-bodied brew has a taste that can only speak for itself. Other flagship beers include Oedipus IPA, HopScotch Strong Ale, and Vader CDA, on draft in 22 ounce bottles and in 12 ounce six-pack cans in Oregon, Washington, and as far west as Japan. Gilgamesh Brewing provides a plethora of different beers; simply put - “a beer for everyone!”

COMMEMORATIVE PAINTING “NEW DAY - AUTUMN, WILLAMETTE VALLEY” BY JOHN VAN DREAL Uncorked Wine Auction 10th Anniversary Pinot Noir Infused Oil on Panel 28” x 22” (34” x 38” Framed) Designed exclusively for the 11th Anniversary of Uncorked Wine Auction, John mastered a new technique of infusing his oil paints with wine to celebrate the rich legacy of Oregon’s wine country and those contributing to “Keeping Children Safe and Families Together” in our community. A truly one-of-a-kind painting, John combined the 10th Anniversary Uncorked Wine Auction Commemorative Pinot Noir with linseed oil and pigment, creating this lush and distinct landscape - the first of its kind in John’s repertoire and widely celebrated signature style. A third-generation Van Dreal artist, John began painting at age seven with instruction from his father, an accomplished water color artist. With the support of his parents, each providing encouragement in the form of ideas, creativity, work ethic, and financial support, John continued to paint, study, and refine his skills. He earned his formal art education from Brigham Young University, receiving his BFA under the instruction of Greenwich Workshop artist James C. Christensen, oil painter Bruce Smith, and printmaker Jenni Christenson. Following his BFA, John completed his graduate work in Educational Psychology. An award-winning artist, John has received much recognition through solo and group exhibitions at a number of galleries in the Northwest as well as the South. In addition to his work as an artist, the published author works as a school district psychologist and Director of Safety and Risk Management for Salem-Keizer Public Schools. VENUE SPONSOR

Welcome to Zenith Vineyard! Who would have believed 11 years ago that the Uncorked Wine Auction at Zenith Vineyard would have developed into Salem’s premier gala event? Who would have believed that Salem would step up so generously and embrace the mission of Family Building Blocks? You believed, and you did it. We can all be so proud of what we have created together in support of our community and families in our neighborhoods. Certified by LIVE, Zenith Vineyard is all about sustainability. Sustainability starts and ends with family. We see Family Building Blocks’ work as vital to sustaining our neighborhoods, our schools, and the fabric of the community. Just as we lovingly tend the vineyard, hoping for a blessed harvest, you are the vinedressers of our community – making an investment now and applying support when needed most. The payoff will be in strengthening the families now and reaping the “harvest” in the next generation. Salem and this wonderful group have shown the desire to make investments now for the long-term benefit of our community. The fruit of that investment will surely be sweet. Join us in celebrating tonight! Let us build a successful legacy together in support of Family Building Blocks and our community. Enjoy some amazing wine and food as well!
