welcome to bryn mawr vineyards

Welcome to Bryn Mawr Vineyards!

We are honored to once again share our home with Family Building Blocks and Uncorked for the second year. While last year’s Uncorked was phenomenal, it was the largest event we’ve ever hosted by a longshot, it was a testament to the perseverance of Family Building Blocks, the same perseverance that inspires them to perform services that create sustainable families, and by extension, communities.

At Bryn Mawr Vineyards, we also focus on sustainability. LIVE certification embodies this focus—sustaining native habitat, watershed quality, and wildlife; applying and following worker health and safety standards, and good neighbor policies; and creating a healthy, vibrant community that actively works to improve the quality of the natural environment in which we live and work.

The concept of sustainability is equally applicable to the premise of Uncorked; creating sustainable families through the work of Family Building Blocks, which in turn creates sustainable communities that contribute to a sustainable Earth. And this brings us full circle to the sustainable vineyard!

If ever there was a time to invest in our families and our community, it is now. The mission of Family Building Blocks has never been more applicable to our world: “Keeping Children Safe and Families Together.”

Keeping the mission of Family Building Blocks top of mind, we invite you to take in the breathtaking views as you enjoy wonderful food and wine, inspiring works of art, and the community of friendship at this wonderful event.

Cheers!

110. HUNDRED ACRE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2001

“From meticulous harvesting berry by berry rather than grape bunch by grape bunch, to an obsessive/compulsive barrel regime as well as winemaking, Hundred Acre is the Napa outpost of visionary and a genius – Jayson Woodbridge. In addition to his original 9-acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard east of St. Helena, he has added a 15-acre parcel on Howell Mountain, and another parcel near the Eisele Vineyard in the northeastern end of Napa Valley called Few and Far Between. Jayson Woodbridge, never content to just make one Cabernet Sauvignon, has added a few other cuvees, one called Deep Time, which is essentially his commitment to very long barrel-aged Cabernet Sauvignon, and Precious, a selection of primarily the best barrels in the cellar. There is even another project, called Fortunate Son, which is another long barrel-aged wine made from selections Woodbridge makes. Perhaps all this is too much for many people, as these are relatively limited selections. Yet, most importantly, these wines are characterized by extraordinarily silky tannins, and an opulence and voluptuous texture that are irresistible. Moreover, they are capable of lasting for two decades in top vintages.” –

110. ROUND POND ESTATE GRAVEL SERIES

Round Pond Estate Secret Garden Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The Secret Garden is a hidden oasis and historic vineyard, MBar Ranch, that sits at the base of the Mayacamas Mountain Range in Napa Valley’s famed Oakville bench. This wine’s remarkable pedigree and the opportunity to share it amongst family and friends led us to seek out this special vineyard. Wonderfully gravelly earth and meticulously farmed grapes produce a wine of complexity, nuance, elegance, and femininity. We dedicate this wine to our Mother – an incredible role model for all the women in our family – whose strength is legendary and eye for beauty remarkable.

Round Pond Estate Scholar’s Gate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Traditionally a mark of respect to honor the accomplishments of the first family scholar, the Scholar’s Gate is a tribute to perseverance, determination and the power of hard work. This wine applauds the success of all who strive to achieve great things, overcome challenges, and be extraordinary. Selected from microsites in the northern corner of our Rutherford vineyards, this wine is big, bold, structured, intense and beautiful. We dedicate this wine to our Father and his belief that through hard work you can achieve anything.

Round Pond Estate The Vow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Composed of the finest selections from Round Pond Estate, the Vow is sourced from a narrow strip of gravel that runs through the South East corner of our Rutherford vineyard. This wine is well-structured, expressive, dark and serious. We dedicate this wine to our siblings, with whom we walk through life and strive to make a difference for the next generation.

Andante Vineyard flourishes in the heart of the Willamette Valley, just west of Salem. Our 42-acre property includes the estate vineyard planted with pinot noir, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, gamay, aligoté, and marsanne vines. Andante wines are made in our estate winery, surrounded by vines thriving on marine sedimentary soil. Pacific breezes flowing through the Van Duzer Corridor let our grapes ripen in summer sunshine until they reach the optimum balance of fruitiness, acidity, and tannins. Guests in our tasting room receive friendly and knowledgeable wine service, as well as curated food pairings from our talented chef and kitchen staff.

We are a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery. Our founders are Joe Allan and Karen Saul, who are fortunate to work with a team of experienced people who share our values: to farm with care using sustainable methods, make artisanal, balanced wines in small lots that delight the senses and lift spirits, and offer warm hospitality and a place where guests can relax and enjoy gorgeous views in a calming atmosphere.

Our name, Andante, is a musical term: it is a walking pace tempo and that is how we try to live and work here. It allows us to be intentional and concentrate on how to provide the best wine, food, and overall experience to our guests. We chose the image of a great egret as our logo to emphasize our stewardship of the land we farm and celebrate the awesome resilience of nature.

We invite you to visit us in our new tasting room this summer. We also seat guests on our beautiful patio with breathtaking views of rolling farmland, a sky full of birds, the coastal range to the west, and the Eola-Amity Hills to the east. We are open by reservation to ensure that everyone enjoys the best possible experience each time they come.

2017 Estate Pinot Noir

This wine is deep garnet in color with indigo hues. Notes of ear th, tobacco, cola and strawberry preserves on the nose, with bright vibrant fruit on the palate, balanced with rich and silky tannins. The finish lingers with spice and savory herbs.

2020 Sauvignon Blanc

Reminiscent of the tropics, don’t let this wine’s pale straw color fool you. The approach is vibrant with aromas of passion fruit, lemon zest, and honeydew melon. On the palette hints of meyer lemon and wet stones are quickly followed with a bright and refreshing finish.

2018 Estate Chardonnay

The color of straw with notes of toasted almond, Asian pear and quince and wonderful earthy hints of truffle. The approach is rich with spices of nutmeg and cinnamon, with lively acidity arriving mid palate followed by a smooth creaminess that lingers to the finish. This Chardonnay will continue to evolve and develop for several years.

In 1993, Archery Summit set its sights on creating wines of real purpose in the Willamette Valley. Since, the Dundee Hills winery has helped establish the region as the cradle of cooler-climate American wine. Winemaker Ian Burch and his team achieve bar-raising wines by way of earned instincts—the familiarity gained from many shared vintages, tending sites they know personally. Thirty years on, Archery Summit proudly considers itself the stewards of someplace truly special, with unparalleled potential. The winegrowing stresses organic and biodynamic farming, with zero tolerance for herbicide, nurturing the land and yielding a rousing lineup of estate Pinot Noirs.

2019 Eola Amity Chardonnay

With exuberant aromatics, the 2019 Chardonnay springs from the glass with pear, melon, and yuzu notes. That energy persists on to the palate, showing flavors of lemon custard, flint, brioche, and green apple skin. The pale gold hue of this wine, bookended by silver edges, is something to behold. Bright, clean, and buzzing with fruit, this wine is a big reason why we’re so infatuated with Willamette Valley Chardonnay.

2018 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Fiercely aromatic, this wine boldly blends a pair of unique Willamette Valley sub appellations under a single cork. Its presence is immediately felt in the form of a perfume-driven and penetrating aroma of fennel, mulberry, and dried anise. On the palate, the Pinot Noir is firm and vivid, with an abundance of bramble and wild huckleberry notes.

Fusing the elegance of the Dundee Hills, the raw muscle of the Eola-Amity Hills, and the dark-fruited nature of Shea Vineyard, this wine epitomizes the spirit of the valley. With slightly firm tannins and an underlying brightness, it is a full, balanced, and deservedly outspoken Pinot Noir. The remarkable 2018 vintage celebrates balance, texture, and intense color, and this wine neatly expresses all of the above.

2021 Renegade Ridge Pinot Noir

We’re still trying to put our finger on the intriguing, extra layer of depth at play with the 2021 Renegade Pinot Noir. There’s a backbone of bold fruit and blood orange aromas, along with a vibrancy that wants to leap right out of the glass. We owe some of that complexity to our farming philosophy, one that’s herbicide-free and cherishes the natural structure and vigor of the fruit. It’s a concentrated wine, a theme from 2021, but also ripe with finesse and beautifully integrated tannins.

Perched high on the western crest of the Eola-Amity Hills near Salem, Oregon, Bryn Mawr, Welsh for “High Hill,” pushes the upper limits of Willamette Valley viticulture. Carefully tended vines express the marriage of powerful maritime evening winds and fractured volcanic soils, yielding grapes with bountiful natural acidity and profound complexity. This fruit inspires us to craft transparent wines that tell the story of time and place.

Jon and Kathy Lauer discovered wine soon after meeting each other in 1986. They quickly developed a powerful appreciation for the deep history and culture of the wine industry, dreaming for decades of one day creating a thriving vineyard and winery. That became a reality when they found a small parcel of grapes and a basement winery named Bryn Mawr. They immediately set to work transforming the property with a promising young winemaker named Rachel Rose. Rachel came to the Lauers through a stroke of lucky coincidence, but she quickly established herself as the central pillar of what makes us tick. She took the reins of all vineyard and winemaking operations from day one, living on site for the first six years of operations and devoting endless love and energy to the process.

From humble beginnings we have expanded into one of the Eola-Amity Hills’ premier destination wineries, building impressive new facilities and nursing our young vineyard into its full potential. Though pinot noir and chardonnay continue to be our foundation, Rachel has continued to push boundaries with experimental varietals and techniques, proving one can honor the valley’s legacy while mapping out its future. Bryn Mawr aims to bridge the classic traditions of winemaking with modern and sound approaches, bringing art and science together to tell the story of our vineyard through dynamic and energetic wines.

We are so happy to once again partner with Family Building Blocks to host such a phenomenal event for an even better cause.

NV Brut Rosé

Our Brut (née Sparkling) Rosé began as a small side project when we opened our new winery facility in 2018, but has rapidly become our most popular wine. Light salmon in color, the bead is rapid and profuse with persistent lacing around the edge. The nose is clean, with bright notes of rosebud and cranberry. The palate is delicately balanced between acidity and sweetness, while the bubbles show an eruptive attitude. The backpalate has a touch of texture, and the finish is crisp and clean.

2019 Estate Pinot Noir

To make our Estate Pinot Noir, we take noteworthy barrels from sites spanning the full range of our dynamic vineyard to craft a complete wine that captures the essence of each vintage. The 2019 Estate Pinot Noir is a profound expression of a classically cool Oregon vintage. Aromas of blackberry, white pepper, and bergamot dominate the foreground as notes of sweet woodland spice with fresh cut fir and incense complete the bouquet. The palate is lithe and refined, with a long and persistent finish. This wine is a testament to the Willamette Valley’s long and storied history of making excellent Pinot Noirs.

Cória Estates is a Mexican-American Family-Owned Vineyard and Winery in South Salem, Oregon. They have been growing grapes for over 20 years in the Heart of the Willamette Valley.

The whole family is involved in what makes Cória Estates a thriving vineyard and winery. Owners, Luis and Janice Coria, manage the vineyard and administrative side of the business, and their youngest daughter, Aurora, is the Winemaker. Their eldest daughter Elizabeth helps on the side of her professional job as a Speech & Language Pathologist. Elizabeth’s husband, Tyler, handles the winery’s creative and marketing programs and is a big part of the business’s brand management.

Their Estate vineyard consists of roughly 100 acres, planted in various years. The most mature section was planted in the spring of 1999, beginning with 55 acres. This planting was done by hand by the Coria’s own family and crew, consisting of approximately 50% Pinot noir and 50% Pinot Gris. In the following years the family grew the vineyard in stages including plantings of Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier and additional Pinot gris and Pinot noir.

The Cória Estates wine program began in 2013, producing small lot wines that drive the expression of vineyard and vintage. Aurora focuses on mainly Estate grown Pinot noir, complementing the program with small lots of outsourced warm climate varietals.

Cória Estates invites you to experience a bit of Mexican ambience while you are surrounded by hand crafted stone architecture and whispering palm trees. Their tasting room offers breathtaking panoramic views of the estate vineyard and the Willamette Valley. Their tasting room is open daily from 12–6pm.

Croft Vineyards was born in 1983, when Chancy & Toni Croft decided to build upon their love for wine, turning it into a serious endeavor to coax something lovely and unique from the soil. Obviously (to us, anyway) there is no better place to do that than Oregon, so they packed up their bags and headed down from Alaska with nothing but a love for the soil, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a sense of humor about the ups and downs that were certain to follow. But just like the grapes they now cultivate, Toni and Chancy were ready to grow, evolve, and adapt; deepening their understanding of the complexity of PNW grapes, and leading to the world-class wine they now serve.

Tastings are currently available at their tasting room, Stomp, which is nestled next to the Willamette River and ready to welcome you as family. Visiting hours are Friday –Sunday to enjoy gourmet pizzas, live music and summer events. Family, children and dog friendly.

Our venture into the wine industry started with the purchase of a 21 acre parcel evaluated for its vineyard potential in 1986. We planted 8 acres of Pinot Noir on our SE facing hillside as we further developed our estate property in the Willamette Valley. Initially our focus was on refining our vineyard management, and we would sell our grapes to larger wineries in Oregon such as King Estate, and Erath. It was in our dealings with Erath that we had the opportunity of getting to know our winemaker, Rob Stuart.

In 2003, we decided to forge ahead with the dream by keeping ½ the product from our vineyards to produce our own wines under the label of Cubanisimo Vineyards. Much soul searching took place in the name selection, and label design since we wanted our homage to our Cuban heritage to be a quality product in every way.

Cubanisimo means “very Cuban”, and from the beginning we have committed to developing our wines into the top quality product meriting the name. In 2005, as our vineyard/winery contracts expired we kept all our grapes, and began construction of our wine tasting room facilities, and slowly started adding to our vineyard plantings. Our wines are currently produced, and bottled at R Stuart & Co. in McMinnville, with plans to move production to our own estate as our wine production increases.

We continue to see phenomenal growth in the popularity of our wines as we pursue expansion of our distribution. Our award winning boutique wines are getting increasing recognition in fashionable wine circles. We relish the opportunity of sharing the passion, and pride we have for our wines, and our heritage through your enjoyment of Cubanisimo Vineyards wines.

Joe Dobbes started his career in the wine industry in 1985 in Germany. Iterum Wines was founded in 2019 by winemaker, Joe Dobbes, and wife Patricia Dobbes. This new wine project represents a full circle winemaking story and celebrates the crescendo of Joe’s lengthy career in the Willamette Valley wine industry which started in 1986.

In 2017 Joe found himself ready for a reset and stepped back from his original wine project, Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe. He took two years off from winemaking, tasted through his peers’ wines and revisited my own wine portfolio dating back to the start of his career in the mid eighty’s.

After reflecting on more than three decades in the industry, it became clear to Joe that it was time to go full circle, and to get small again. In 2018 Joe and his wife Patricia and purchased their dream property, Orchard House Vineyard west of Salem, Oregon. The organically farmed 21-acre estate, located on the west slope of the Eola-Amity Hills wine growing region, is now home to their new project - Iterum.

The Latin word Iterum translates to, again, afresh, or once more.

Joe’s purpose behind making wine once more, is to get back to his roots. He is just where he wants to be; back in the vineyard kicking the dirt, farming, creating, experimenting, and rejuvenated. Joe has emerged with a hyper focused vision to make the most exciting wines of his life.

The Iterum portfolio includes Estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Methode Traditionnelle Sparkling Wines. Also included in the portfolio are a handful of special, limited bottlings named, ‘Old Friends,’ truly exceptional vineyards, varietals, and clones Joe has worked with over the years now reappearing in his cellar.

2021 ‘Old Friend’ Oak Grove Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, WILLAMETTE VALLEY AVA

“An exceptional statement of the varietal.”

Joe first worked with Oak Grove Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc in 1989 at Eola-Hills

Wine Cellars when he shared a vintage with Winemaker at the time, Ken Wright. Fast forward 32 years and Joe has re-connected with the same vineyard, but now under the Iterum Wines moniker, ‘Old Friend’. The 2021 ‘Old Friend’ Oak Grove Vineyard

Sauvignon Blanc is highly aromatic with aromas of white blossoms, honey, white grapefruit, lychee, pineapple, melon, wet stone, and citrus rind with flavors mirroring the aroma. The mouth is uniquely, and simultaneously rich and lean, full of flavor, balanced with bright acidity and layers of complexity from new Acacia barrels.

2019 Orchard House Vineyard Chardonnay, EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVA

“An exceptional Willamette Valley expression.”

This Chardonnay hits all three of Joe’s Chardonnay objectives: intense aromatics, great mouth texture, and bright fresh acidity. The wine illustrates aromas of baked pear, Granny-Smith apple, lemon meringue, cinnamon, clove, honeysuckle, and sweet cream. The flavors mirror the aromas intermingled with lime rind, and barrel spices from 35% new Acacia, and French oak barrels. The mouth is richly textured and framed within a crisp, and vibrant acidity. Fermented with native, indigenous yeast from the vineyard.

2020 Clone 115 Orchard House Vineyard Pinot Noir, EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVA

“A red-fruited expression.”

Crafted from clone 115 Pinot Noir, this is a textbook example of what makes Oregon Pinot Noir world class, and a truly special example of Willamette Valley finesse. Bright and copious aromas of red fruit, raspberry, strawberry, and cherry intermingle with allspice, sweet pipe tobacco and red licorice. The flavors mirror the aromas with added flavors of earthy forest floor, and sweet ripe fruit tannins. The flavors are intermingled and well-balanced with sweet spices and a hint of toast influence from the 35% new French oak barrel aging. Fermented with 15% whole grape clusters, native, indigenous yeast from the vineyard, and bottled without fining, or filtration.

2020 Eola Bench Pinot Noir, EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVA

“A unique vineyard blend demonstrating the AVA”

Bright and copious aromas of cherry cola, Bing cherries, and sweet barrel spices. The flavors mirror the aromas intermingled with well-balanced sweet spices and a toasty oak attributed to 60% new French oak barrel aging. Fermented with native/indigenous yeast from the vineyard, and bottled without fining, or filtration.

Family-owned and operated, Left Coast Estate is guided by two essential principles: a passion for winemaking and a deep connection to the land where we live and farm. Founded in 2003, we completed the initial phase of the winery just in time for the inaugural 2004 vintage of our label bearing a Lewis and Clark map to illustrate our special place in the world. We are in the middle of the Willamette Valley, just 37 miles from the Pacific Ocean with the immense, cooling benefit of the Van Duzer Corridor running through the property.

In the seventeen years since our beginnings, we have gone from a grape growing operation with long term contracts with fellow Oregon producers and a wonderful opportunity to establish the high quality of our fruit, to an all-estate commitment. We farm nearly 160 acres of vines on our 500-acre estate, largely sedimentary soil laid down by the Missoula floods and some volcanic soil as well. We grow and meticulously tend our vines and grapes and handcraft our wines and bottle them on site—a fusion of art and science and, most certainly, a labor of love.

We take a holistic approach to everything at Left Coast Estate, sustainability being at the core of all we do. We received the largest USDA grant in Oregon in 2008 to go solar, and the vast majority of our estate’s electrical needs are supplied by the ground and roof mounted solar arrays. Our winery and vineyards are LIVE certified, Salmon Safe, and we were one of just six producers that went to a third party verification in the initial Carbon Neutral Challenge, originally under the aegis of the Governor’s Office, now folded into LIVE as a Carbon Reduction program.

Peter Rosback, Sineann owner, began making wine long before going commercial. He was a member of the powerhouse non-commercial winemaking club, West Side Wine Club, which gave rise to a number of commercial wineries, including Raptor Ridge, Freya, Parrett Mountain, and others. Sineann’s first release was in 1994, and Old Vine Zinfandel from the oldest surviving vineyard in the Pacific Northwest, owned by Lonnie Wright, whose own label is The Pines.

Since then, Sineann has consistently been active in producing wines from both sides of the Cascade Mountains, and the Columbia Gorge. West side wines include mainly Pinot Noir, and at one time, Gewurtztraminer, and Riesling. From the Columbia Gorge AVA, Sineann produces Gruner Veltliner, and Pinot Gris. From around The Dalles and the Horse Heaven Hills, the portfolio includes the Old Vine Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Orange Muscat, and has included Petite Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc.

In addition, in 2007, Peter began traveling to New Zealand to make wine. He began in Marlborough, producing Sauvignon Blanc from the Auntiedale Vineyard and also made Pinot Noir from McGinlay’s Vineyard. In 2011, he shifted the Pinot Noir vineyard source to Pisa Terrace Vineyard, in Central Otago. The wines were produced in New Zealand, bottled there, and shipped to the US on a container ship in refrigerated containers. In 2018, Pisa Terrace Vineyard sold, and that was the last vintage of pinot from New Zealand. After the 2019 harvest, non-citizens were quarantined from New Zealand, and that was the last Sauvignon Blanc vintage.

Sineann’s wide ranging lineup is a tribute to the period of the 1970’a and 80’s, when wineries were not as finely focused on Pinot Noir. The diverse climates and AVA’s of the Pacific Northwest offer a wide range of opportunities to produce wines from both cooler and warmer climate grapes. Sineann purchases from top vineyards, but has none of it’s own. There are some perils to this, but Peter Rosback has always found a suitable replacement of top quality, and has not missed a beat. Our style of winemaking is quite distinctive, and has received critical acclaim from a wide number of very highly regarded sources.

2016 Pisa Terrace Pinot Noir (Central Otago, New Zealand)

The wine was produced and bottled by owner, Peter Rosback, in New Zealand, and shipped in a refrigerated container from New Zealand to California. It is dark and concentrated, blockier on the palate than most Pinots produced in Oregon. Full bodied, full of dark fruit, it is a versatile wine with food, coming down between classic Pinot Noir and grape varieties commonly grown in somewhat warmer regions.

2021 Abondante Blend

This wine is a blend of nearly equal parts Zinfandel and Merlot, with a tiny dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot and Cabernet produces rounder characters, and, interestingly, the Zinfandel provides a bridge between the varietals, and a long, lingering finish. The wine has high end esters from the Zinfandel, earthier notes from the Bourdeaux varieties, and the combination of the flavors of Merlot in the front palate, and Cabernet Sauvignon the length of the palate, plus the smoothness of the Zinfandel flavors makes for a great drinking wine, while providing a wonderful accompaniment to a whole variety of foods, making it a very versatile wine for many occasions.

2020 Phinny Hill Merlot

From the Horse Heaven Hills of Eastern Washington, comes a Merlot that is concentrated, powerful, and not soft, sloppy, or flabby. The balance will surprise you, and proves that Merlot is, indeed, a grape to be reckoned with. As a matter of fact, the most expensive wine in the world is from Chateau Petrus in Bourdeaux, and it is made entirely from Merlot, since 2010. (Just dispelling a certain movie’s narrative, as pure absurdity). Try it and see how Merlot can produce a wine with plenty of structure and flavor.

Willamette Valley Vineyards began producing high-quality, sustainably grown pinot noir and other cool-climate varietals in 1983. Since then, Willamette Valley Vineyards has earned the distinction as “One of America’s Great Pinot Noir Producers,” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and “2011 Winery of the Year,” from Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Their mission is to create elegant and classic Oregon wines from the Willamette Valley Appellation while serving as stewards of the land. Founder Jim Bernau believes we are rewarded with wines that taste better when made from naturally grown wine grapes. Tending the vines by hand and using minimalist winemaking techniques in small-batch fermentations, Jim strives to capture the unique sense of place that comes from the soils.

2021 White Pinot Noir

A richly textured white wine made from fully matured estate-grown Pinot Noirgrapes, this wine features aromas of nectarine, lemon, lime and vanilla creme. Enjoy with seafood dishes including seared scallops, almond crusted halibut and other flaky white fish, roast poultry, honey baked ham, light salads and soft cheeses.

2021 Whole Cluster Rosé of Pinot Noir

Vibrant pink in color, the wine opens with fruit-forward aromas of ruby red grapefruit, guava and orange and continues with a juicy, lush palate offering flavors of strawberries and raspberries accented by notes of spring including florals and fresh herbs. A crisp and clean finish refreshes the palate and invites another sip. Perfect for pairing with appetizers like antipasto and charcuterie platters or at the start of the meal with fresh, seasonal salads, can also be enjoyed with light entrees like Dungeness cake cakes, shrimp Pad Thai and roasted poultry.

Our brewing company is the brainchild of local Salemite Christopher Holland, a restaurateur who thought, “Why not a brewery, too?” When his long-time friend and coworker, Jeremy Borde, signed on to be head brewer, For Tomorrow We Die Brewing was born. As guests arrive, the cold minimalism of our gray warehouse exterior gives way to an interior filled with warm, wooden bars and a plethora of plants. The sounds of pinball and the smells from our food trolley waft through the air, connecting our Throne Room to our bar to our open brewing area.

A Salem, Oregon-based brewery established in 2020, we sit in the heart of the city’s industrial district and currently have 13 brews to our name. We brew today for tomorrow we die. Our name is a battle cry, a call to action. With beer names such as Kiss The Girl, Road To Hana, and Gonna Be A Great Day, our goal is always to set intentions, encourage greatness, and raise a glass. To finite moments and infinite outcomes. For chances taken and shots missed. To the trying and trying again. For the thrill of the unknown. To us. To our struggles and our inherent worth. For us. For loving fiercely and living boldly. Gilgamesh Brewing is owned and operated by the Radtke family in Salem, Oregon. After years of home-brewing, the Radtke brothers, Mike, Nick, Matt, and their father, Lee, decided to turn their shared hobby into a family business. They took home the People’s Choice Award for their flagship ale, Mamba, at three consecutive Oregon beer festivals. Together, they made the leap and turned a section of Lee’s woodworking shop into a small sevenbarrel production facility in the woods of Turner, Oregon.

After three years in Turner, Gilgamesh Brewing outgrew the 600-square-foot facility and moved into their current location, a 2.5-acre spot in southeast Salem named The Campus. The Campus includes a large event yard, a high efficiency production brewery, and a full restaurant with a patio adjacent to Pringle Creek. The high efficiency brewhouse reduces energy, water, raw ingredients, and labor to provide a more sustainable product. The brewhouse also gives the brewers freedom to create new and unique beers to keep their customers on their toes.

In the summer of 2019, Gilgamesh Brewing will open its second location in West Salem, aptly named The Woods. As with The Campus, The Woods location features stunning woodwork including tables and a 45-foot wrap-around bar, sustainably harvested and hand-milled at the Radtke family property. The Woods is a full-service restaurant with a large year-round patio.

Gilgamesh Brewing creates a plethora of unique beers. Their flagship beers include the wildly popular Mamba, DJ Jazzy Heff, Oedipus IPA, Hazy IPA, Terry Porter, Classic Lager, and Doug FIRocious Double IPA. Find them on draft at your favorite watering hole or in 12-ounce six-pack cans throughout Oregon, Washington, and as far west as Japan.

Sparky’s Brewing Company is owned and operated by the Baker family in Salem, Oregon. Sparky’s first opened their doors in February of 2014 as a homebrew supply store offering 30 taps of craft beer and cider. This derived from Monte’s love of homebrewing and the name Sparky’s comes from his day job. Monte is an electrical contractor and electricians are often called, “Sparky.”

Sparky’s has evolved from its original business model. In 2016, they put in a kitchen, becoming a restaurant in addition to selling homebrew supplies. Monte passed his love of homebrewing on to Dustin, his son, who shared Monte’s dream of brewing onsite. They began contract brewing, where they brewed using other breweries’ equipment as they navigated the licensing process. They recently received federal approval for their brewery license and welcomed Dustin along with Gary Paul as their brewers.

Sparky’s currently offers 10 home-brewed beers on tap as well as continuing guest taps of beer and cider.

TRAVEL PACKAGE STIPULATIONS

Before bidding, please read carefully the following conditions of purchase for all travel packages. Travel packages sold through the Auction contain only those elements listed in the auction lot description.

1. Air travel must not be interrupted. Airfare is to be booked point-to-point. Any changes or additions to travel will be at the buyer’s expense. This condition also applies to rental cars or other ground transportation not included in the Auction lot description.

2. Expiration dates are NOT flexible. Expiration dates have been carefully selected by the donors involved. To request an extension beyond the expiration date could place undue burden on the donor and jeopardize future donations to the Auction.

3. All reservations including air, rental cars, and lodging, must be made within dates specified in supporting documentation and as contained in the Auction package.

4. Once a trip is scheduled and confirmed by the buyers, changes may not be allowed by the donors. If a donor is unable to accommodate requests to reschedule or if a requested change results in a donor being unable to honor all components of the trip, Family Building Blocks/Uncorked Wine Auction will NOT refund any portion of the trip purchase.

5. Some trip features or amenities may have to be paid by the buyers at the time of use. Such expenditures will NOT be reimbursed unless specifically listed in the Auction item description as qualified for reimbursement by the Auction.

6. PLEASE NOTE: If a buyer donates a travel package purchased at the Auction to another charity, or it is resold to another person, bidder assumes ALL risk. Family Building Blocks/Uncorked Wine Auction will not be responsible for honoring any elements contained in travel packages purchased outside the Auction.

Family Building Blocks is classified as a tax-exempt corporation (Tax ID Number is 93-1233373) under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

2023 Uncorked Wine Auction Commemorative Artist.

Dimensions: 36” x 48”

Medium: Oil on Canvas

“I just love softly rolling fields and hills. I love the smells of hay and wheat being harvested at sunset; the warm dust being kicked into the air that makes the sunsets this time of year appear even warmer than usual. This is spot 30 minutes west of the studio that starts and ends with a dirt road and just a few old barns, as if to announce you are in a secret and special area not too many people travel to or get to appreciate.”

About the artist

Growing up in the Oregon Cascades and the Willamette Valley, nature and landscape have had a profound impact on Michael Orwick. He has always been inspired by the ability of landscapes to tell stories.

Having difficulty in school because of his dyslexia, Michael turned to pictures to make the written word understandable and to help him communicate with others. He eventually majored in illustration at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, where he discovered that oil painting and the method of working from dark to light “worked with my backwards brain.”

Michael’s career in art started in animation at Will Vinton Studios and moved quickly into illustration, where he enjoyed bringing the ideas of others to life. As is true for many creative people, Michael was drawn to develop his own signature style of “Inspired Expressionism,” painting his ideas on canvas and inviting the viewer to provide the narrative.

Michael is equally talented in both illustrative and landscape work. He is a master of creating mood through atmosphere and color, utilizing space, a sense of place, and time of day to convey his vision. His work hints at a story and it is what he leaves untold that engages the viewer in the creative process of storytelling.

“As a painter, the effects of light and atmosphere are what I remember about a location and what inspires me most. Light transforms the ordinary or even beautiful into the exceptional. I aim to capture these fleeting moments and help people see things again through new eyes.” - Michael Orwick
