ACCOMMODATION

Cairns Central YHA has 59 rooms including family rooms which are air-conditioned with private bathrooms.

The family rooms are surprisingly roomy and can sleep up to six with a double bed and two sets of bunks. For our family of four, we had two spare beds in the bunks that were quickly converted to blanket cubbies.

The WiFi is free and fast. Fast enough to stream movies on a laptop or tablet in a blanket cubby house!

Our family room had a small fridge, allowing us to self-cater easily and better control our spending.

THE LOCATION

Cairns YHA is located opposite Cairns Central Shopping Centre and is a short walk from the Cairns Esplanade where you will find the familyfriendly Cairns Lagoon, night market, cafes and restaurants. Trinity Wharf, the departure point for all the Great Barrier Roof tours is also nearby.

THE FUN STUFF

There is a pool in the centre of the complex with pool noodles, a spa section, outdoor lounge bags and a large rubber ducky just for fun.

Located near the pool is a pool table, BBQ and a ‘’memory fountain’’, in which guests can write an awesome memory on a smooth stone and plonk it in the fountain.

FOOD AND DRINK

Cairns Central YHA has a large shared kitchen but due to Covid-19, you will be given your own bag of plates, bowls and cutlery on arrival. The kitchen is well stocked with gas cookers, pots, pans, microwaves, toasters and cleaning supplies to clean up after yourself.

There is a shopping centre across the road and plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance.

AROUND CAIRNS

Cairns is amazing! Families can enjoy the Cairns Lagoon, esplanade, night market and aquarium in the city. Create new treasured memories by spending a day chasing waterfalls, getting out on the Great Barrier Reef, riding the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or heading north to experience the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, where two UNESCO World Heritage Sites collide. A day trip out to one of the nearby islands is a great option for families. Read all about our perfect day out visiting Green Island in this issue!
