Safe & Welcoming Environment
McKinney Elementary strives to increase student achievement through providing real-world learning opportunities with STEM projects and activities, improving math scores with a focus on numbers in base ten, increasing students' ability to write with stamina, decreasing negative behavior by teaching self-regulation strategies, increasing parent involvement through our PTO and PAC, improving communication with families, and increasing our attendance rates.
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
McKinney staff members work with students to promote a safe and kind environment. We teach strategies to positively handle frustration and conflict, such as selfregulation techniques and restorative practices. Our school highlights student kindness and positive behavior and we actively communicate our work with families. In addition, our Latino Family Outreach & Community Liaison ensures that our Spanish-speaking families have an equitable voice in our school.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Student safety is our top priority at McKinney. We address this by: Reviewing rules and expectations regularly; Focusing on safe, respectful, responsible, and kind behavior in all areas throughout the school; Using restorative justice to resolve incidents; Actively teaching problem solving and conflict resolution; Maintaining a partnership with Glencoe High School to have student ambassadors teach antibullying lessons; Utilizing positive reinforcement for expected behaviors; Regularly practicing all safety drills and reviewing them with staff; and Scheduling weekly meetings with our School Resource Officer.
McKinney has a robust offering of extracurricular opportunities, including: After-school Scholars club, Chess club, Adelante Chicas, "What-if?" club, Let's Read Math, Website Design, LEGO Robotics, 4-H Garden Club, Basketball, School Play, Summer STEM learning program, and Kindergarten Bridge.
We believe that the highest levels of student success come through close collaboration between the school and parents. We promote parent engagement by: working closely with our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Parent Advisory Committee (PAC); sending home a monthly newsletter; posting regularly to Facebook and Twitter; sending classroom communication through weekly letters, Seesaw updates, and Remind; encouraging regular parent volunteers; offering additional parent conferences as needed in the spring; and holding Family STEM night, regular ZUMBA events, and family workshops with Adelante Mujeres.
Much of McKinney's success comes from community partnerships. We have too many to list, but here are some highlights: Qorvo representatives teach STEM education and provide tutoring, local farms bring a harvest of the month for healthy eating, Washington County Library promotes learning in our community, LifeWorks NW helps with mental health services on site, SMART comes twice a week to read with young students, Intel adds to STEM funding, Hillsboro Schools Foundation provides grant funding, Cultural Coalition of Washington County and Oregon Cultural Trust bring more Arts learning, and Schoolhouse Supplies and FirstTech Credit Union provide backpacks and school supplies.

In addition, a newsletter goes out at the beginning of each week to keep parents informed about what's happening at our school. On the first Friday of each month, Evergreen's Parent Club holds a meeting at the school where the principal and other key stakeholders attend and present on various topics relating to the school and our students.
Evergreen partners with local businesses and organizations such as Intel, Nike, Dick's MacKenzie Ford, and others to provide our students with real world experiences in several career and technical fields. Experiences range from hosting guest speakers to students spending valuable time on-site learning about careers firsthand. In addition, many volunteers help out at Evergreen both daily and weekly in classrooms and throughout our school. In addition, we film a weekly broadcast, hosted by our SRO and counselor, which is shared with the entire Evergreen and Hillsboro community on topics related to mental health and other relevant issues facing young teens.

School Goals
State Goals
Safe & Welcoming Environment
During the 2018-19 school year, we worked on increasing our collaborative culture at GHS. We continue to work one the "what?" and "why?" of our lessons by posting Learning Targets, Essential Questions and Language Targets. The use of language scaffolds is also essential so all students can access the content. At Glencoe High School we place a strong emphasis on Language and Rigor to improve academic discourse between students and enhance differentiation in the classroom.
At Glencoe High School we value both classroom climate and culture as well as the safety of all students and staff. This year, we look forward to even more effective upgrades in safety as renovations from the bond begin. Our many different clubs provide students with opportunities to develop relationships and a sense of belonging. We work hard to include all parents in our PTO and PAC groups. We have bilingual staff who answer phones and are able to support all of our families.

About Our School ADVANCED COURSEWORK
CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
GHS offers a number of Advanced Placement courses and dual-credit courses aligned to various colleges and universities. AP courses include: AP Studio Art, AP Language, AP Literature and Composition, AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, AP Human Geography, AP Government, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP European History, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. We are also happy to be able to add AP Music Theater and AP Spanish Language. Thirty-three percent of GHS students will be enrolled in at least one AP course during the 2019-20 school year. Our dual-credit courses are Tech Theater, AP Calculus BC, and Economics.
GHS has a strong and extensive CTE program and continues to build opportunities for students in the areas of the Arts/Information/Communications (Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Music, and Theater), Business Management (Business and Marketing), Health Sciences, Early Childhood Education, Engineering, Manufacturing and Design, and a newly added pathway of Construction. The 201819 school year was the first in which every senior participated in a career and college pathway program as part of their graduation plan.
Glencoe High School has a strong tradition in athletics, clubs, and the arts. We offer 19 sanctioned OSAA sports. We also offer clubs such as lacrosse, bowling, and equestrian. More than sixty percent of our student population participates in extracurricular clubs and sports. We also partner closely with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce to provide opportunities for students to job shadow and volunteer throughout Washington County.
Our work during the 2018-19 school year was around developing opportunities for parents to be involved. Many different activities took place such as FAFSA and ORSA evenings both in English and Spanish, and a monthly Principal Chat was established with great success. We send weekly calendars and newsletters with information on upcoming events in which parents and community members can participate. Our band and athletic booster clubs are highly successful. We will continue to find ways for all of our parents to be involved in our school.
