State Goals
Safe & Welcoming Environment
At Harrison Elementary School, early literacy is our primary focus with uninterrupted time blocked for reading instruction, educational assistants in classrooms to facilitate small group learning, and a Reading Specialist who monitors students' progress and facilitates interventions as needed. We also partner with the SMART Reading Program to provide extra time for students to read with an adult. These targeted efforts routinely support students increasing their reading words per minute and comprehension.
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
We are very grateful to be settled into our new school building here on Taylor - thank you Cottage Grove taxpayers! Our goal is for everyone to feel safe and welcome on campus. We offer a variety of modes of communication with signage, emails, phone apps, newsletters, website updates, and a friendly face to answer questions when they arise.

At Lincoln We Never Stop Learning. Thanks to our daily FLEX period, students receive extra time and support for their immediate academic needs. Upon implementation, the percent of students receiving failing grades dropped dramatically, and has maintained a rate of approximately 2% each of the last two years. For 2019-20, LMS is implementing PBIS systems to create a more predictable and positive environment for learning. We will be implementing School-wide Expectations, Recognition, and Corrections systems.

Our school works hard to create a safe and welcoming environment. Through programs like WEB and our Advisory class, we teach kids that Lincoln is a community that they are part of. WEB provides peer guidance the first day of school, and continues with academic, social, WEB leader-initiated follow ups throughout the year. We start the year with nearly daily Advisory lessons that transition to weekly sessions later in the year. Advisory teachers remain with kids the full three years, so relationships grow stronger and more supportive.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES LMS is implementing PBIS systems to create a more predictable and positive environment. We have developed specific positive behavior expectations for each area of Lincoln. These expectations for each area will be taught during the first two weeks of school, and formally retaught at least once more each trimester. Reteaching will occur regularly as students learn what is being asked of them. As behaviors become shaped, they are maintained by continued positive reinforcement that may include extra time with peers, special activities, or some other motivator identified by the student. Our Tiger Pride room provides a space for kids to debrief incidents, find adult support, and problem solve.
Data are suppressed to protect confidential student information.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Lincoln Middle offers a full menu of sports teams, clubs, and after school support. These include: football, volleyball, cross country, wrestling, basketball, track, science club, math homework help, biking club, art club, and other activities. We also participate in the annual Battle of the Books Competition.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT We value parent input and involvement and ask our parents to attend three different parent/teacher conferences over the course of the year. Our teachers make regular phone calls home to ask for support and share positives and progress with parents. Our parent club is very active in fundraising and providing support for teachers and kids.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT We partner with several local organizations to provide students additional social and emotional support throughout the year. Ophelia’s Place, Campus Catholic Ministry, Looking Glass Rural Program, and the University of Oregon are a few of the organizations that help our students and families. Our staff also participates in the annual Relay for Life to help raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer.
