Our school strives to promote student success, both academically and emotionally. To do this, we recognize the value of high achievement and promote consistent student attendance. We work with students and their parents to break down the barriers that may cause absences and connect them to our school community. Our school follows a Response to Intervention process that establishes support and enrichment for students in the area of literacy. In addition, we recognize the importance of social and emotional learning and have embed it into our daily instruction.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

North Albany Elementary works to ensure students and their family feel welcome and safe in our school. All staff train for keeping everyone protected and secure. All communication sent home through mail, phone, or text is translated for easy access. Interpreters are provided for parent conferences and other school meetings where parents are present. To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all of students, NAE has adopted a social-emotional learning curriculum. This program helps us create classrooms where students communicate, cooperate, develop relationships, embrace diversity, and resolve conflicts. Teachers also develop coordinated classroom management plans that are designed to teach students how to be highly engaged, responsible, and academically successful. Throughout the year we conduct regular meetings on how to recognize bullying, harassment, safety concerns and provide strategies for intervention. Our school offers several academic focused extracurricular activities: · Lego Robotics Team

Our school strives to engage all of our families by providing a welcoming atmosphere for all. We encourage volunteerism, we offer language supports for families who speak languages other than English, and we offer opportunities to be engaged through serving on site council and our parent-teacher organization. Our school also holds a variety of family events throughout the year. We value and foster open communication with families through our school and district website, newsletters, and various methods of communication between staff and families.

We partner with local business to provide students with learning opportunities in connection with our community: Local Museums, Community Hospital, Career Fair, Police and Fire Departments, and Boys and Girls Club. The following community partners provide additional support for our families and school: Altrusa, Rotary, School Readers (SMART, Read dogs. or other buddies), Lunch Buddies, School Resource Officers, FACT, Linn County Mental Health, and Trillium Services, and North Albany Community Church. At NAMS we will focus primarily on culture, systems, leadership, and instruction. Specific work in these domains will feature systematic work in strengthening our Tier I, II, and III PBIS system. We will enhance the use of Tiger Eyes, provide students a system to use to voice problems, and create a Student Advisory Board. We will strengthen our Homeroom by structuring it so that students learn about the following topics weekly: academic vocabulary, social-emotional learning, student culture building, weekly goal setting, and monthly suicide prevention. Students will learn a variety of critical reading strategies in all content areas.

It is important to NAMS that all students and their families feel safe, welcome, and included. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, immigration status, or other factors. Everyone is entitled to academic success regardless of their background. We are upgrading our communication system to include Facebook, Instagram, monthly newsletter, School Messenger, and then translating into Spanish. Safety is a top priority, as well as learning about trauma informed practices.

Student safety is NAMS' highest priority. Students have many venues for reporting mean behavior, bullying, and harassment. Not only can they report to any staff member, they may also report through SafeOregon and "I Have a Problem" forms. NAMS staff quickly and thoroughly investigate all reports and addresses each situation. More importantly, we promote a safe and welcoming climate through proactive measures: PBIS, school counseling, community counseling, conflict resolution, and an easy system for reporting.

Students at NAMS are given several opportunities to pursue activities outside of the classroom. Students are invited to participate in Cross Country in the fall and Track in the spring. Our bands and choirs have opportunities to perform at community events such as parades and music festivals. Each year we hold a school musical in the fall. Students may also be a part of Oregon Battle of the Books. We hold a weekly After School Homework Club on Wednesdays, to provide extra academic support for students.

Parent involvement is a key to our studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; success. We strive to partner with our parent community to ensure a strong home/school connection. Our schools communicate with parents via newsletters, emails, phone messages, websites, and Facebook pages. Back to School Night is held in September and Parent Teacher Conferences are held in October. Parents are encouraged to contact or meet with teachers, counselors, or school administrators with concerns and ideas. Written communication is translated and interpreters are available at parent meetings and school events for our Spanish speaking families. The Tiger Parent organization helps with planning school events, raising funds, and can serve as a liaison between home and school. Volunteer opportunities are available for parents.

Our school is more successful because of the community believing in our youth. We having working partnerships with various businesses, bring in speakers to talk about career and college readiness, and instill in our students that being part of a community is for the greater good.
