Strong Seller's Market

Strong Seller's Market

The market has been cooling over time and prices plateaued for a while. Despite the consistent decrease in MAI, we’re in the Seller’s zone. Watch for changes in MAI. If the MAI resumes its climb, prices will likely follow suit. If the MAI drops consistently or falls into the Buyer’s zone, watch for downward pressure on prices.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

At Powell Butte, it is our mission is to nurture, motivate, challenge and inspire every child to succeed academically and socially. We support every student to grow academically, socially and emotionally to become successful and positive contributing members of our community. To achieve this we have four areas of focus, Student-Focused Teaching & Learning, Healthy Culture & Environment, Effective Systems & Programs, and Community & Partnerships.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

At Powell Butte, we celebrate our diverse community and strive to create a welcoming, safe and accepting environment at school. We strive to truly be a school at the heart of our neighborhood and community. We host over 38 after school events a year including a full SUN Program and language classes over the summer. Weekly updates and the school-wide use of the Remind App in multiple languages help keep parents and families informed and involved.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Through our Responsive Classroom program, we are building a community and culture that empowers students to report harassment and bullying. We are committed to building a safe school environment in which students are taught to respect and care for one another. Socialemotional learning is also taught to promote interpersonal skill development. With the use of our school-wide Student Success Intervention Systems, The Body Shop which includes the anti-bullying curriculum, and Zones of Regulations students are taught that we are a caring community with integrity, equity, empathy, and respect.

Powell Butte Elementary offers one of the strongest extracurricular activities of any elementary school in the area. In partnership with Growing Gardens, our students can participate in gardening and support both our school and community garden. With the support of our SUN program and IRCO, we offer several focused activities: Arts, soccer, cooking, homework club, science classes, and athletics. We also offer Student Council, Band for 6th grade, SMART for all grade levels and several other extracurricular opportunities for our students.

At Powell Butte, we strive to engage all of our families and community by providing language support for parents where English is their second language. We host over 38 after school events a year including a full SUN program and language classes over the summer. We have the strongest elementary music program in the district with multiple concerts every year. We have an active Parent Teacher Club and many opportunities to volunteer in the school to support students. We are a community school where parents and community involvement is what makes our school a great place of learning.

We have over 55 community partners at Powell Butte Elementary. This allows us to give our students a wide range of diverse experiences and opportunities including multiple school-wide field trips every year. We are fortunate to partner with Metropolitan Family Services, SUN schools, Trillium Family Services, Ready Set Go organization to name a few. We work with local churches to do beautification projects at school in the fall and spring. We also host a community BBQ and work project. Community Engagement is the central focus of our school and community.

School Goals

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Our school promotes student success by using a clear and consistent, culturally responsive system of support. This system utilizes data to identify and address student attendance, behavior, and academic concerns. Student success is consistently monitored and interventions are implemented.

Our school strives to ensure all students feel welcome and informed. To reach as many families as possible, a Spanish and Russian liaison are available during the school day and communications are translated and sent home in English, Spanish and Russian. Interpreters are available for other languages at conferences, transition meetings and other school events. To ensure the safety of our students, our school continually reflects on safety protocols and utilizes outside experts to provide recommendations for improvement.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Building relationships and positive school culture are essential to creating and sustaining a safe learning environment. School staff are dedicated to the Core Values: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Equity. These Core Values are embedded in culturally responsive practices and teaching, intentional content lesson planning, community building activities to ensure a culture of kindness at CMS..

Our school offers track and field as well as expansive academic and athletic SUN after school clubs: robotics, technology, multicultural, yearbook, poetry slam, GSA, Chess for Success, Latino Network Conexiones, ultimate frisbee, soccer, basketball, MESA (mathematics, engineering, science, achievement), and more. Additionally, our school hosts annual community events and celebrations.

Our school strives to engage our parents in a variety of ways throughout the year. Teachers regularly interact with parents and students using communication tools such as online gradebook, email, Google Classroom, and parent surveys. A communication committee provides monthly information and celebrates students’ successes on our school website. Finally, our school provides a number of events to encourage community engagement such as Science Night, Movin’ On Up, Multicultural Night, and other parent-generated topics (e.g., dangers of social media and how to be successful in middle school).

We partner with many local businesses and agencies to provide students with learning support within our learning community. Some of the agencies are Latino Network, REAP, NW Family Services, Multnomah County Mental Health, Trillium, Columbia Sportswear, and Fire up your Feet Oregon. Students collect donations for the community food bank run by our high school students, Food for Families. Our school also participates in the annual Pennies for Patients drive benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Oregon.

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

CHS promotes a healthy school culture. This will be shown by improving attendance rates for all groups of students. Our classrooms are designed to be student focused. Our students will exhibit their learning three times per year with Eagle Expos. We want our freshmen to finish the year "on track" with at least six credits earned. We work to build community in our classrooms and school and engage in partnerships that help all groups of students reach their goals.

Our school strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families. We do this by providing access in many languages including: Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkmen, Arabic, and Azeri. We provide additional languages through staff, the district, and language lines. We have events such as MultiCultural night to showcase the cultures of our students. We also have clubs and activities such as MEChA, BSU, and GSA that honor, support, and engage students through their identities. We also practice safety by following the Standard Response Protocols for emergency situations.
