FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, Thank you for taking the time to review our school's State Report Card. The State Report Cards are produced by the Oregon Department of Education and their purpose is to provide the community a broad overview of how each school in the state of Oregon is doing. We have just under 400 students enrolled at Knight Elementary School. Our kindergarten through sixth grade students come from unique and diverse family situations. Our students and staff come together to create a very rich and successful school culture where fairness, safety, responsibility and respectfulness guide our decisions and actions. We are a welcoming and compassionate school, where students can feel comfortable to learn and grow. Our overall Academic Achievement, Academic Growth, and Student Group Growth ratings were all at a Level 4 (out of 5 with a level 5

being the highest). The academic growth made by our students in subgroups of English Learners and Economically Disadvantaged was strong; however, we would like to see additional academic achievement in these subgroups. In order for us to support these students' growth we have plans in place to provide additional intervention, parent education opportunities and additional direct instruction based on individual student needs as measured by the Common Core State Standards. We as a school are excited to partner with our families and the Canby community to support all of our students. The work that we do with the children and youth in our community is one of the most important endeavors known. Thank you, Principal

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, The State Report Cards are produced by the Oregon Department of Education with the purpose of providing a broad overview of how each school is doing. It is our pleasure to share with you the 2016-17 School Report Card. While we are proud of our school and the academic successes of our students, we continue to be challenged by meeting the new state requirements for Smarter Balanced Assessment testing. Although many of our students generally perform at or above state average for this last testing year, many families still choose to "opt out," impacting our overall performance ratings. For this upcoming year, BPMS staff will work diligently to encourage and improve overall participation. BPMS staff will continue efforts to improve testing performance across the school and to focus closely on students who are Economically Disadvantaged, English Language Learners and students with Special Education needs. Teachers will integrate reading and writing in all content areas and provide students with feedback on their writing to insure that all students demonstrate consistent improvement in meeting the required

writing standards. All students will participate in two school wide writing performance tasks. We have chosen to address this issue by continuing to use our Wednesday mornings to use student data to help inform our instruction and to focus our resources on implementing the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which reinforce literacy across content areas, and moving towards standards based grading. We take our job of educating our students and preparing them for high school and beyond very seriously. You can support your child by monitoring homework and accessing support daily with after school tutoring from their teacher(s). Working together‌ great things will continue to happen! Please feel free to call me with any questions that you might have regarding our School Report Card. Thank you for your trust and partnership! Thank you, Principal

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, In the 2016-17 school year, Canby High School (CHS) continued its efforts to prepare students well for future success in college and careers. A leader in dual credit options, Career and Technical Education, and "Advanced Placement" classes, CHS provides a wide variety of opportunities for all students to explore different academic paths and plan for their futures. While we continue to be proud of our school and the overall academic successes of our students, we were especially pleased with the recent performance of graduating seniors and the closing of achievement gaps by under-represented students. During this year, CHS implemented interim assessments for all freshmen and sophomores through ACT Aspire to help prepare students for the ACT exam. In April, all juniors took the ACT to gain student performance data on progress towards college readiness standards. CHS staff will continue efforts to improve testing performance across the school. Teachers will integrate reading and writing in all content areas and provide students with feedback on their writing to insure that all students demonstrate consistent improvement in meeting the required writing standards. In addition, special seminar classes and tutor centers have been established to help students with remediation

and skill building. We will also continue our commitment to our freshmen students by focusing on our transition program and after-school support programs for struggling students. In the upcoming academic year, Canby High School will implement a number of improvements. In addition to expanding dual credit options and partnerships with local colleges, we will continue the implementation new curriculum in both Math and English/Language Arts. In addition we will begin a new adoption process for science and social studies. These adoptions include significant applications of technology and the District has implemented a program of issuing iPads to support this learning to nearly all students. Finally, Canby High School will also implement the AVID program with the Class of 2021, providing additional support and instruction to help under-represented students prepare for and access post-high school educational opportunities. Thank you, Principal

However, the ODE will report indicator ratings (e.g., achievement, growth, graduation, etc.) for each school and student group on the 2016-17 Report Card (RC) Rating Details reports. These reports are accessible at http://www.oregon.gov/ode/schools-anddistricts/reportcards. CURRICULUM & LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WHAT IS THIS SCHOOL DOING TO IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING AND TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE?

SCHOOL READINESS

At CHS, we meet with all 8th grade students and parents prior to forecasting in the spring of their 8th grade year. A spring site visit and formal “Link Crew” day for freshmen helps provide comfort to new students and their parents in their transition to high school.

Three academic counselors, a prevention specialist and a school psychologist provide academic and mental health support. We have a Student Advisory program where grade level classes provide students support and help with transition.

Data and information in the Curriculum and Learning Environment section were provided by local schools and districts, and were not verified by the Oregon Department of Education.
