Strong Seller's Market

The market has been cooling over time and prices plateaued for a while. Despite the consistent decrease in MAI, we’re in the Seller’s zone. Watch for changes in MAI. If the MAI resumes its climb, prices will likely follow suit. If the MAI drops consistently or falls into the Buyer’s zone, watch for downward pressure on prices.

School Goals

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Our school strives to promote students success by providing engaging and effective instruction within safe, respectful and culturally inclusive environments. We are working to provide meaningful involvement and familyschool partnerships. Academically, we are focusing on improving all areas of instruction, with an emphasis on mathematics. We will do this by implementing a new curriculum and providing ongoing training to teachers. We are excited about the new math curriculum and this work.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

We strive to ensure all students and parents feel welcome by providing many opportunities for involvement and communication. Our school and district provide bilingual staff and translation services to support ongoing communication. We have a counselor and a student behavior specialist to work with teachers and students. We have Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports to reinforce positive behaviors. We look forward to the 2019-20 school year and the opportunity to build strong and lasting positive relationships with students and families.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

To ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students we implement several proactive and responsive strategies. We regularly practice emergency drills that include fire, earthquake, and safety. Students are taught lessons by our teachers and counselor aimed at social emotional skills, conflict resolution, and bullying. Schoolwide we implement Community Circles that focus on building community and positive relationships amongst students. Our staff work as a team with students and families to address conflicts between students on a case-by-case basis. Our staff encourage all of our students to speak up when they see bullying. Our goal is that every student feels safe and knows they are an important part of our school community.

Gilbert Park is a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) school and through SUN we are able to offer a variety of after school programs throughout the school year and summer to all families. We also offer athletic activities through our Community Sports Programs. Some examples of extracurricular activities are: Garden Club, Science, Art, Community Sports, volleyball, basketball, football, Music/Choir, Leadership, Yoga & Mindfulness, Homework/Academic help, and Lego League

We continually strive to engage all of our parents in meaningful ways. We have strong parent groups and a several committees that organize family engagement events such as Back to School/Open House, Bingo Nights, Multicultural Night, Pumpkin Carving/Fall Festival, Breakfast with Books, Movie Nights and Curriculum Night . We look forward to continuing many of our longstanding traditions as well as explore new ideas to meaningfully engage our families."

We partner with several local agencies to provide services to our students and families: · HOLLA - Mentor Program

Data are suppressed to protect confidential student information.

· IRCO - Lead SUN Agency · IRCO Africa House Oregon Food Bank - School Food Pantry · NAYA Youth Advocacy · Trillium Family Services · Zenger Farm · Imago Dei Community Church · Toy and Joy Each year we hold a food and gift drive that connects our students and community in working together to provide gifts and food to families in need for the holidays.

School Goals

State Goals

Safe & Welcoming Environment

The school's leadership provides professional development to teachers to support parents in the education of their children by providing in-classroom opportunities and at-home opportunities for parents.

We always strive to make parents feel like an important part of our school community. We are fortunate to have multiple bilingual staff who can help interpret for school staff and parents. We have interpreters for conferences in at least 7 languages.

Professional development activities for all staff (principals, teachers, and paraprofessionals) are aligned to ensure continued growth in content knowledge as well as in effective instructional delivery. School staff involves parents and students in setting student goals and preparing the student for post-secondary education and careers.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Our most effective safety actions are the relationships that staff strives to build with each student. · Monthly fire drills · Twice-yearly earthquake drills · Twice-yearly lock out drills · County wide threat assessment protocol · Bullying curriculum in advisory classes · Abuse curriculum in health classes

Students are lucky to have many opportunities across many different interest areas in which to participate. · SUN Schools offers sports, performing arts, computer, academic, and many other types of clubs. They are all free to students. · All grades can join teams in volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, and track and field.

Every year we encourage parents to be a part of their child’s education. We have several events tailored to this goal. · At Back to School Night, we invite all parents to attend with their child and follow the child’s schedule so they can meet each teacher. · At least three times a year we invite students and their families to come to school, and we provide dinner, along with activities such as BINGO, basketball, and volleyball. · At least twice a year we have a morning event, families to come who have busy evenings. · PTO meetings occur about once a month.

We have surprisingly few businesses in our school boundaries. We have connected with a couple of nursing homes. Our performing arts groups have visited various nursing homes near our school. We are exploring having some other elective classes partner with a new senior living center, where students could complete projects with adults living there.
