This affords the opportunity to reduce the size of instructional groupings for a better match of instruction to student needs. Our focus in the 2019-2020 School Year is to improve 3rd Grade ELA Achievement.
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
SES is a PBIS school where positive, pro-social behaviors are promoted every day. We solicit the impressions of support staff to recognize student effort and achievement on a weekly basis. At monthly assemblies, we acknowledge academic, character and attendance achievements. We have doubled the counseling staff for the 2019-2020 school year to be better serve student needs.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
At SES we are ever vigilant about bullying and harassment. We are supported by Oregon Administrative Rules, School District Policy and site-based expectations. We make every effort to minimize peer-topeer based aggression through positive expectations, peer modeling and active supervision.
SES hosts the Boys and Girls Club of Western Lane County where students are provided enrichment opportunities and homework support.
Parents are always welcome to volunteer at SES. We boast a large pool of regular volunteers who help with classroom instruction and field trip supervision.
We partner with several community organizations to increase enrollment in after school athletics and cultural offerings.
We have annual events for families to celebrate new and creative instructional techniques in Math, Reading, and Science.
Siuslaw Elementary enjoys a great deal of support from the greater community. The Food Backpacks for Kids program ensures that more than 50 school families receive food support over the weekend. We work with community groups including Rotary, The Elks Club, The Lions Club, faith-based charities and veterans groups to ensure that our students have a well-rounded community experience.
We frequently involve ourselves in rectifying aggressive behavior that begins off campus but later has an impact on the learning process.
Our 21st Century Council meets three times per year to gather stakeholder input on important subjects including curriculum and school culture.
When bullying becomes an issue, we work closely with families of both victims and aggressors to create an environment where students feel safe each day.
The Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program promotes the role of fathers as volunteers.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Siuslaw Middle School is very intent on reducing bullying and harassment. We are supported by Oregon Administrative Rules and local school policies on having zero tolerance to bullying and harassment. We implement a social/emotional learning program, school-wide to proactively teach about bullying, how to prevent it and how to report it. Siuslaw school district participates in the Safe Oregon program where students, parents or community can report instances of bullying and harassment anonymously. All reports of bullying and harassment are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
Siuslaw Middle School offers various academic and athletic extracurricular activities. Our athletic opportunities include Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, and Track & Field. Additional clubs and activities include, Jazz Band, Choir, Knowledge Bowl, Brain Bowl, Geography Bee, Social Justice Club, Oregon Battle of the Books, Outdoor School, Lego Robotics and ROV.
At SMS we believe that parents play in important role in their child’s education. By involving parents in their child’s school, students can achieve more academic growth. We invite parents to be a part of our 21st Century Council to be involved in our school’s decision making process. We encourage all parents to participate and collaborate in regular two-way communication to improve student outcomes. Opportunities to participate in school functions include helping with oral reading fluency tests, twice annually, parent-teacher conferences, open house and our annual STEAM Fair.
We partner with local business to provide students with unique learning opportunities. Our Outdoor School program alone reaches a myriad of business and individuals throughout the community. In cooperation with Kiwanis Club we do a “Game of Life” program with all 8th grade students as well as hosting Builder’s Club. We consistently work with civic groups such as Rotary, The Elks Club, The Lions Club, faith-based charities and veterans groups to ensure that our students have access to as many resources and opportunities as possible.
