Forfeit the Untrue is a Christian metal band from South Africa combining unwavering faith with passion for metal. FTU is all about ridding the fake in your heart, in your relationships and in all contexts of life, standing and fighting for what is real and true. Comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable with musical and lyrical intensity while head banging God. Forfeit the Untrue have just singed with American record company Sanctus Gladius Records. Enjoy this interview guys
Interviewed by: Duwyne Clayton
Hi guys, thanx again for doing this interview, can you tell us where it all start as a band, what is the story behind Forfeit Thee Untrue? Thanks for the opportunity bro. Forfeit Thee Untrue can be traced back to 2006 when I met our current rhythm guitarist, Sean. Under a different name, the idea of a band began and slowly evolved for several more years as a hobby, without any vocals, lead guitar or bass guitar. Without any vocals or voice, the music ideas in terms of rhythm guitar and drums continued to flow while I sat with many different themes and lyric ideas over the years. Songs were written lyrically and stored with the faith that the right vocalist would come along at the right time. Sean and I met Gideon ‘Gidz’ Karsten in 2010, and in 2011 we approached him to assist FTU with vocals and additional guitars, given that he was in another band at the time. He agreed. Gidz joined for a few practices to help out with the song ideas, and then in early 2012 FTU decided to book and record a song, ‘Seven’, at RedRoom Records. Shortly after the recording and the release of the song, with its subsequent positive feedback, Gidz cemented his place in FTU and became a permanent member of the band. Before long, another song – ‘Grace Covered Sin’ – which was written with guest vocalist Leanie Pienaar (a friend and colleague of mine) was selected for the RedRoom Records’ compilation album, ‘Rock the Stars’. With still only 3 members of FTU, the plan seemed to be one of working toward releasing an EP before gigs commenced. Yet another song, ‘Screaming in Silence’ was recorded shortly afterwards. With 3 songs recorded, I went to Seattle, USA, in July 2012 to promote FTU and watch a Christian rock and metal festival. In the States I did several radio interviews talking about FTU and getting some of the songs played on air, as well as met and shared the FTU songs with members from various USA bands including Demon Hunter, Love and Death, Disciple, The Letter Black, RED and Thousand Foot Krutch. Shortly after my return to SA, the decision to get a 4th member onboard for FTU became imminent, with the intention to start doing live shows. In August 2012, FTU met up with guitarist, Mitch Pearson, who joined the band shortly afterwards, thus completing the line-up. Currently, FTU is hitting the gig scene and awaiting the release of their EP, Blood Soaked Splinter, set for an April 16th release. FTU has already begun writing songs for their full-length album, with 3 songs already written, which will also comprise part of the band’s set-list of songs for live shows to promote the Blood Soaked Splinter release.
Can you tell us a little about each member of the band? Gidz (28) is the FTU vocalist, bassist and co-lyricist. He is a site manager, guest speaker as well as the praise and worship leader at his church. He also plays guitar, drums and piano, and teaches guitar from his home in Kempton Park. Gidz is married to Maritza and has 2 children. His favorite band is As I Lay Dying. I (Craig, 29) am co-founder and manager of FTU, as well as drummer and lyricist of the band. I also have a Master’s degree in psychology and give drum lessons to children from my home in Benoni, where FTU practices. I also play guitar. I am ‘pre-engaged’ to my girlfriend, Yolandi, and in the process of setting up my career as a child and adult psychologist. My favorite band is Wolves at the Gate. Sean (25) is co-founder and rhythm guitarist of FTU. Sean works as a product manager for a large automotive company. Sean is recently married and currently lives with his wife, Claire, in Boksburg. His favorite band is Demon Hunter. Mitch (18) is the latest member of FTU and fulfills the role of lead guitarist in the band. Mitch also teaches guitar from his home in Benoni and plays ukulele, violin and bass guitar. Mitch has a girlfriend, Charne, who is also a singer and forms part of Gidz’ praise and worship band, and who has collaborated with him on previous recordings. Mitch’s favorite band is Oh, Sleeper.
“We have signed with Sanctus Gladius Records—based in Kansas USA”
You’re a Christian metal band, do you find it hard to get your music out there being a Christian band?
As a Christian band what message are you trying to bring across in your music?
Yes and no. We’ve had some difficulties given that Christian metal is by nature a very marginalized genre of music, particularly in South Africa. Having said that, we have had some difficulty with the more commercial or wellknown radio stations playing our songs, as well as top CD stores in South Africa showing interest in stocking the bands upcoming EP album on their shelves. However, Christians being judged, mocked and condemned is nothing new to society’s story; then again the same can be said about metal being shunned and condemned. So, we gladly embrace the persecution, judgment and mockery, as well as any difficulties that come our way for getting our music out there and standing strong in our faith. We will gladly stand and fight for our beliefs and to get our music out there to let guys simply enjoy the music and to spread the message of Christ. Comparatively, we have received great support from people across the Christian, rock and/or metal communities, whether they be bands, fans or otherwise in both the local and international scene. We have generally received great support from local newspapers, online magazines and radio stations, as well as social networks such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. We have stood firm in our faith and pushed on despite any adversity because we all believe this to be our calling, and we all live by the quote, “I never said it would be easy. I only said it would be worth it.” So yeah, it’s a fight – just like life every day – but we are standing with the full armor of God and ready for the fight.
I think basically the whole ‘resolution’ or mission statement behind Forfeit Thee Untrue and the music that we make, lyrics that we write, is just to encourage people to be real, to be yourself and to take off the mask; the mask that society often tells us we need to wear in order to fit in and to be accepted. We hope and pray that we can encourage people to have faith in themselves and/or in God. We are not here to push our beliefs onto others and even if a person enjoys the music and appreciates it in some or other way, irrespective of the Christian message in the songs, well then that’s a battle won on its own already. The world is dark and life can be tough, and yes we do often write about these dark situations and aspects of life. However, despite these negative situations and personal struggles that we are all faced with on a daily basis, we believe in and communicate the idea that one must persevere despite these adversities, through faith and belief in God’s plan or your own purpose in life. Society may disagree but you can still enjoy rock or metal music, rock out and head bang, yet still have a relationship with God and Jesus Christ. You don’t have to choose one of the other. Let society spit on you, but keep pushing on. Get rid of the fake in all areas of your life – in your relationships, in your marriage, friendships, at work, at school, university, church…every area of your life. Stand and fight for what’s real and keep searching for the truth, even if you’re standing alone.
Who are some of the band’s musical influences? Some of the band’s primary influences include bands such as Demon Hunter, For Today, Oh Sleeper, As I Lay Dying, Wolves at the Gate, Love and Death, and RED.
Now for the big one, congrats on the signing of a recording contract, can you please tell us which label you have signed with and how it came about? That was all Him, but thanks very much! We have signed with Sanctus Gladius Records (meaning ‘The Sword of the Holy One’) based in Kansas, USA. I made a picture slideshow and lyrics video of ‘Seven’ (our first recorded track) and uploaded it onto YouTube. I then posted the link of the YouTube video on Sanctus Gladius Records’ FB wall in Nov 2012. Shortly after, the co-owner of Sanctus Gladius Records messaged me to compliment FTU on the song and that
Sanctus Gladius Records were interested in signing Forfeit Thee Untrue. After much deliberation and discussion within the band and with wives and girlfriends, the band signed with Sanctus Gladius Records in mid-Jan 2013.
When can we expect an album out under the new record label? April 16th 2013 is the tentative date set for release of our 8 track EP entitled, Blood Soaked Splinter.
Do you have any other albums out prior to this? We don’t have any other albums out prior to the EP. We really wanted to take all the time needed and put all the energy and creativity required into making a solid debut EP release, which I’m confident we have done. We have already written 3 songs for the full album which we are currently performing at live shows and are continuing to write more material as we gig and promote the Blood Soaked Splinter EP.
How can people get hold of you, what are your social networks? You can find us on Facebook Page, Twitter and YouTube, with a website currently under construction. We also love to meet new people on these social networks and chat to fans of the band. We often encourage fans to message us and tell us about themselves, where we can reply to them and make friends, and ultimately come together in unity and solidarity, through Christ and the love of rock and metal music.
Thank so much for doing this interview with Fanbase Music Mag. Thanks so much again for the opportunity and support, we really appreciate it! We hope to see and hear from some new fans soon! Love and respect from all of us ~ Gidz, Craig, Sean and Mitch.
Tribute to
Garth McLeod
ICONIC SA DRUMMER GARTH McLEOD DIES IN MOTORBIKE ACCIDENT Today is a sad day for the South African entertainment industry as we mourn the loss of iconic drummer of Sugardrive, Martin Rock & The Sick Shop and WONDERboom - as well as Manager of Marshall Msuic (Woodmead), GARTH McLEOD (44). On the morning of Friday 15th March 2013 at approximately 09h30, Garth McLeod was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident on his way to work at Marshall Music. Details as to the cause of the accident are still sketchy, but it appears that whilst riding around a bend, he lost control of his motorbike and he impacted with a street sign. No other motor vehicle was involved. His wife Anne-Mari and members of the respective bands he was part of, responded in shock upon arrival at the scene, and are deeply saddened at this sudden loss of such a great husband, music talent, and dear friend. As messages of condolence pour in from friends and colleagues in South Africa and around the world, it is evident what a tragic loss has been encountered today. RIP Garth McLeod - a king amongst men and pioneer of the SA drumming community - you will be sadly missed. More details will be released in due course, as they become available. Fans, friends, colleagues and industry members can email through messages of condolence to collett.dawson@absamail.co.za and these messages will then be passed on to Garth's wife, family and the members of the respective bands he performed with.
A Special Tribute from a Special Person : Anne-Mari McLeod (Wife of Garth McLeod)
My beautiful Solemate, this is how I will remember you! We met New Year, Swakopmund 2003/2004! I will never forget the faces you pulled when you were playing. I will always admire your beautiful talent; you loved playing and performing, always giving the piece of music "just what it needs", nothing more. You were happiest on your bike. I am so proud of you. The day you said you would like to adopt a dog, I said "that's lovely, what are we getting" Never thought a Pit-bull! You wouldn’t have it any other way, you had to have Duke! You 2 were inseparable, lying on the couch together! I love how you loved him and I will take care of him just like you would have! I know nobody will love me like you did, for our love was a strange one, but we got it. You understood me, read me like a book, and were the most beautiful, giving person I knew. I am honored to have had you and be loved by you. I will never forget the witty humor, every day was fun, we couldn’t stay angry at each other, I will either tell you to "deal with it" or you would make a joke and that's the end of it. Thank you for giving me the space so I could be who I needed to be. How I will miss your voice, your laughter, presence. You lived your life larger than itself, you left a footprint so big we cannot look past it. You were always positive. I love you Garth McLeod. A while ago I asked you "What would I do without you?" You answered "You live your life my babe!" I don’t want to stay goodbye, but I bid you Farewell my Love, I cannot wait to see you again. May you have peace in your heart, knowing that you are the love of my life.

Hi everyone and Welcome to the T&C Durban Vibes section of the mag. Together we ( Tania and Chantell) will be writing for the mag and trying to get to as many gigs as we can in and around Durban. We are very excited to be writing for Fanbase music Magazine and we hope you enjoy our various gig reviews we do. This month we have reviews on Ard Matthews Open mic sessions that are being held at Cool Runnings every Tuesday. We also have a gig review of the Prime Circle/ Gangs of Ballet so go check that all out. We hope you enjoy our section in the mag and if you see us at a gig near you then come on over and say hello Happy Days Tania and Chantell
Cool Runnings
On Tuesday nights the greatest hot spot for local talent would be Cool Running on our FunSunZi Durban shore. This Open mic sessions is the brain child of Ard Matthews from Just Jinjer fame. It will be happening every Tuesday and hosted by Ard Matthews providing he is in the Durban City and not somewhere doing a gig. The vibe is very chilled and relaxed and has the format of a live rehearsal space where bands can try out new songs and sharpen their live performances at this Rasta Bohemian hang out for any artist that wants to show case their music to the world. Not even bad weather seemed to scare the awesome supporters; the venue was packed to the rafters. This laid back venue has a delectable menu for anyone that might have a hunger to fill with the bar being stacked most of the night. The dÊcor is very authentic and something true to its core that adds to the Island Style atmosphere. The Ard Matthews Affair and Gangs of Ballet certainly showed us how it should be done. This place makes you feel like you want to kick back and relax while listening to the divers local music it has to offer or will be offering with the vision that Ard and his crew has. Learning and sharing I know everyone that went will go again, you will regret it if you don’t. New artists can check out www.iwantmyradio.com which is a radio station started by Ard Matthews himself. This is a great cause that will definitely go a long way for South African music and help the music industry. This event is held every Tuesday so make your way to Cool Runnings because your Tuesday nights just got a whole lot better. Having had the opportunity to be there was a great privilege.
GIGG REVIEW
Old Mutual Botanical Gardens Prime Circle and Gangs of Ballet
GANGS OF BALLET We had the honour of meeting a rising sea rock band who was the show starter of the Prime Circle Old Mutual Botanical gardens concerts in Durban one Sunday afternoon. The weather was perfect and the garden was full, Gangs of Ballet took to the stage and played their electric rock songs. This young band of four knows how to entertain a crowed, who so easily sung back the words “hallo sweet world to the lead singer Brad Klynsmith. Brother Josh Klynsmith was on the drums. Bass guitar was manned by Hardus De Beer and keyboard was played by Jono Rich. You can only expect more great music from this talented Durban band. Their music is fun and electric and gives an epic new taste to the world of music. They love interacting with the public as the lead singer shared his 1 year wedding anniversary with every person that was there as he lovingly dedicated a song to her. To read more of Gangs of Ballet then check out the interview Fanbase Music mag did with them a few months back in issue 22 on page 24. Click on the link below http://issuu.com/fanbasemag/docs/ issue_22 After a fun filled concert the boys joined their fans for some signing of all Gangs of Ballet CD, Shirts and Posters. They made sure that no one left the park without a signature of each member of the band. What an epic experience, we hope to see them on Durban stages very soon.

PRIME CIRCLE With a short break from the opening band I was very happy to see an old favourite of mine live in concert again. Prime Circle came back on stage with the same positive great flair to the world. Rocking it in old and new. Leading front man Ross Learmonth, powerful bass guitar played by Marco Gomes, drums Dale Schnettler, lead guitar Dirk Bisschoff and keyboard Neil Breythenbach are no strangers to the rock world. After 11 years of making music their message of being strong and standing up for yourself was still strong. And I quote “don’t take nobody sh*t man” With their album “Evidence” out on sale we got a little taste of what is on offer. They are entertaining and a legendary rock band who will be touring Germany soon and I’m hoping they will return to S.A with a new album featuring the best. We wish them all the best. Prime Circle are no strangers to Fanbase Music magazine and on their return we will surely stop by at one of their concerts to give you an update about their tour. Gangs of Ballet and Prime Circle rocked and we would like to thank Total Exposure for providing us with the press passes, and Old Mutual for once again bringing us a great gig at the Botanical gardens. A HUGE THANK YOU TO PRIME CIRCLE AND GANGS OF BALLET FOR AN AWESOME DAY OUT AT THE GARDENS!!! Happy days

A few days later I was browsing on Facebook and while I was scrolling down my home page I saw a suggestion made by Facebook saying people you may know. And to my surprise there was Jason Guile, I immediately recognized him from a few nights ago at the show I saw at the Barnyard. So I added him and invited him to feature in the magazine, which brings us to this interview you are about to read. Apart from being very busy at the Barnyard Jason has also been very busy in the studio compiling some music for an album. Check out this interview to find out all about his work for the Barnyard and also his album he’s been working on.
Interviewed by: Duwyne Clayton
I first came across Jason at a show called Classic Rock playing at the Barnyard theatre. I’ve always been a fan of the Barnyard theatre productions but I was particularly impressed with this great musician who was the lead singer and guitarist for the show. I remember being blown away by his stage presence and the way he played guitar, but damn, this man can also sing. I walked away from that show feeling mesmerized.
Jason Guile
Just how much work goes into putting a Barnyard show together, it must take a lot of time and dedication to get the songs perfect?
Hi there, thanks for doing this interview with us, let’s start from the beginning, where did it all start as a musician. What made you want to get into this business? I'd say it all started when I picked up the violin for the first time at the age of three but I think the bug really bit me when I got my first guitar! I put my first band together when I was twelve with my brother Sebastian on drums, Ryan Matthews (currently with Woodstock Mafia) on bass, Tim Smith on guitar and myself on guitar on vocals. We were called Black Rose and we thought we were awesome hahaha!
Did you come from a musical upbringing? Yes! a fantastic upbringing! My parents have always been so supportive of my brothers, Sebastian Guile : drums, Matthew Guile : Guitar and I. My father let us turn his precious garage into a rehearsal space which I later converted into my first recording studio...he did eventually get his garage back.
The first time I saw you play, were at a Barnyard theatre Production, is that your full time job and do you make music outside being a member of the Barnyard team because I saw on Facebook you are working on an EP? The Barnyard Theatre is my full time job but because of the set nature of the show hours there is ample opportunity to work on other projects. I'm currently putting an original band together to do an EP launch.
ALOT! I think most of the time people don't realize how much work goes into putting these shows together. It kinda goes like this: Show idea-Song list-Musical Director does the song and harmony arrangements-Hours of vocal rehearsal-Hours of choreography rehearsals-Hours of band rehearsals-Hours of band rehearsal with vocals-Dress rehearsals-SHOWTIME!
Do you ever get nervous when you’re on stage? HAHAHAHAHA!! that depends how well rehearsed the band I'm playing for is, but not usually :)
You play a mean riff on a guitar and you can obviously sing. Is there any other instruments you can play? Thank you kindly! I also play drums, bass, piano and anything else I can get to make a noise.
Besides the EP you been working on, what else have you been involved with in music? Anything I can get my hands on lol! I've recently started getting into musical direction which is loads of fun!
“it all started when I picked up the violin for the first time”
What genre of music is your favorite to listen and play to? Hmmmmm.. that's a difficult one... it varies day to day, anything from metal to jazz fusion but I do have a very strong connection with the 90's grunge era.
For those people who would like to hear your music, how can they get hold of you? Do you have any social Medias? of course :) soundcloud : www.soundcloud.com/jasonguile facebook : https://www.facebook.com/jasonguile twitter : @jasonguile
Thank you so much for doing this interview with us. No problem, thanks so much for asking me.
The “Simone” Factor “We are one” Colour Festival Cape Town review Out of the recent myriad of summer music festivals in Cape Town one has stood out above all others. Not only because this festival had a line-up of phenomenal Djs like Kid Fonque, Super Flu and Niskerone and local acts like Good Luck , but because of its rather unusual nature, that of being doused and dusted in radiating luminous colour powder . This inaugural Holi One festival gave a whole new meaning to getting down and dirty. Originally a Hindu festival held to celebrate the new spring season and all the glorious colours that it brings, it was only a matter of time before us western folk adopted it and made it our own, i.e. adding dance music and charging entrance. But the joyful, fun and celebratory nature serves a music festival very well and promoters have successfully taken it all over the world. The scorching heat of a Cape Town’s summer day did little to deter the thousands of us revellers who danced and partied to the outstanding beats. Held at the Grand Parade, this space sits dead centre in the middle of the city and it created a bubble, impervious to the outside world, a bubble of sound, vibrant colour and childlike happiness. Returning to our kindergarten instincts we marvelled like children at the spectrum, of colour that we usually take for granted in our everyday lives. Most people who wore white, as promoters advised us to do could kiss goodbye to those garments very quickly as the powder, which I have since discovered after having putting my washing machine through its paces, never quite washes out. But ruined garments are a small price to pay for a stellar line up and a phenomenal uplifting day of good vibes and summer sunshine and clearly the festival’s reputation precedes itself as the turn out surpassed all expectations. For a first time event, the faith revellers had in this unusual party was a huge as tickets were sold out days in advance resulting in some very sad and disappointed faces at the gates.
The set up was very well organised with plenty of tented resting space and two huge bars where one never had to wait too long for service. There were also ample food vendors and lifestyle stores selling everything from clothing to jewellery and festival accessories. I felt no pretentious vibes at all, after all no one was wearing their best threads and if they were, they were covered head to toe in powder. No, pretentions were left outside and those who dressed up dressed weird and the more wired the more wonderful. Strange hats, props and clothes were the order of the day. One festival goer even donned a fetish Zentai spandex full body suit . Some wore goggles, some wore surgical masks but those did little to thwart the purpose of the coloured dust particle which was to embed itself into every crevice known to human kind. Forgive my rather graphic description but one must understand what one is up against. Putting my camera in a plastic bag was pointless but I did manage to get some stunning pictures, especially during ‘the countdown’ where the djs between sets countdown and on the number one the music peaks, people offer their packets of powder to the sky and the air becomes a rainbow cloud of weightless smoke, visually stunning and sensually intoxicating. I’m one camera down, one pair of white bellbottoms and one white t-shirt down but all in the name of good journalism and one of the best parties of my life. I will be there next year for certain and instead I’ll be wearing black, because that too shows the colours up and I just might be able to salvage them.

“and in other news! “ Slash alongside Kings of Chaos to tour South Africa Well we said we will keep you up to date with Slash touring South Africa after we revealed a few months back that Slash really wanted to tour South Africa. And that promise we have kept. We have great news for you, yes the legend himself Slash will be touring our Shores in June. BUT… there is a big but…. We are being spoilt with a Super Group coming to South Africa. The group is made up of Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke (Ex Guns n Roses), Joe Elliott( Def Leopard), Glenn Hughes( Deep Purple), Sebastian Bach( Skid Row), Steve Stevens and Collective soul’s Ed Roland, also a host of special guests such as Slash himself who normally doesn’t play with the Super Group but is joining them for the South African tour. Now seeing Slash on his own would have been legendary but now having the chance to see him and including some awesome names in rock is going to be something very special. It’s basically half the Guns n Roses band without Axl of course and he is being replaced by Sebastian Bach and Joe Elliott. The band apparently plays songs from their original bands so you can expect to hear songs from Guns n Roses, Def Leopard and even Collective soul amongst others. This concert is going to be every rockers dream and one not to be missed Tickets are priced from Cape Town from R375 and for Sun City from R460 and are available at Computicket
Shaun Berry leaves solo music alone while focusing on new band Shaun Berry has announced he is giving up doing the solo thing for the foreseeable future and is concentrating on his new band called “Signal rose”. Joining him on bass is Mark Nathyn and Neil Walters on drums. The band is busy working on an album called “Distance means nothing” and it is expected to be on the shelves in September this year. The album is being produced by Dylan Keyser at flipside music. Shaun Berry says the band is already half way through recording the album and it is sounding shweeet. He goes onto say it definitely is going to rock quite hard, but still have the melodic, broody and moody in places sounds that we used with Shaun Berry, there will be no acoustic guitars this time. Berry says he is basically going back to his roots and his rock influences. He is focusing on the band from now on although there might be the occasional solo song he will release from time to time but for the time being it is all focus on the band and the new album To hear Shaun Berry’s solo stuff you can listen to it by logging onto www.reverbnation.com/shaunberry Shaun’s previous solo album Kaleidoscope is doing very well in the UK and Europe, its getting played abroad quite often.

Former Iron Maiden drummer, Clive Burr has died at the age of 56 Former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr has died at the age of 56. The legendary musician had been suffering from multiple sclerosis for many years, and although an official cause of death has not yet been revealed, the band reports that Burr passed away in his sleep last night at his home. Clive Burr joined Iron Maiden in 1979, drumming on the band’s iconic first three albums — ‘Iron Maiden,’ ‘Killers’ and ‘The Number of the Beast.’ Burr left Iron Maiden shortly after the release of ‘Number of the Beast,’ and was replaced by current drummer Nicko McBrain by the time Maiden’s next album, ‘Piece of Mind,’ dropped in 1983. Burr went on to perform for acts such as Trust, Stratus, Desperado and others. “This is terribly sad news,”Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time.” comments Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris Vocalist Bruce Dickinson said “I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden,”, referring to the band they were both in prior to joining Maiden. “He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family.” To aid their beloved former drummer in his fight against Multiple Sclerosis, Iron Maiden began the Clive Burr MS Trust in 2002. The band periodically donated proceeds from live shows to Burr, aiding the drummer tremendously thanks to the heavy metal band’s massive drawing power. Clive Burr will always be known as one of metal’s finest drummers. A true legend behind the kit, Burr’s work remains essential to this day … and we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Clive Burr. Rest in peace.
Motley Crue’s lead singer, Vince Neil rushed to hospital and band cuts shows setlist Vince Neil could no longer continue and had to be rushed to a local hospital while playing a gig recently. Guitarist Mick Mars took to Twitter a little after the fact to reveal that the singer was suffering from kidney stones and that the pain got the better of him. In a tweet about the situation, bassist Nikki Sixx stated, “Sorry Sydney for a short set tonight but Vince had to be rushed to the hospital for internal pain. Will update you on his progress.” Mars followed with a bit more info, explaining, “Sydney, my apologies for a short set this evening. Vince had an attack of kidney stones. He went straight from the stage to the hospital.” After nine tracks during the set, Vince decided he couldn’t go on and had to go off stage, though the final two songs were actually the Tommy Lee drum solo and Mars’ guitar solo without Neil having to be present. According to Setlist.fm, the band worked their way through ‘Saints of Los Angeles,’ ‘Wild Side,’ ‘Shout at the Devil,’ ‘Same Ol’ Situation,’ ‘Sex,’ ‘Home Sweet Home,’ and ‘Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)’ before Neil had to leave. Sixx took to the microphone after Mars’ guitar solo to reveal that Neil had been in pain throughout the show and had been taken to the hospital. Motley Crue have been touring Australia with Kiss, continuing the successful run the two bands enjoyed together last year.
Liam Gallagher reportedly thrown out of the same pub twice in a week for being too drunk The Sun reports that Gallagher was turned away from The Queens in Crouch End, London on Mother's Day (Sunday, March 10) as he was drunk and slurring his words. A manager at the pub told the paper: "We just said we couldn’t serve him because he was too drunk. He was treated like any normal customer. It doesn’t matter who you are — if we think you are too drunk we will not serve you." The pub reportedly made news of the Beady Eye frontman's behaviour on the pub's Twitter feed: "We’ve had to kick Liam Gallagher out twice today. He asked whether it was because he was a rock star. We said no, just a drunken twit." The comments were later deleted. Reports suggest that Gallagher had turned up at the pub on Sunday with his former Oasis bandmate Bonehead and that they had been turned away with the bar and restaurant full of families celebrating Mother's Day. The manager of the establishment confirmed that the Beady Eye frontman had suffered a similar fate when trying to enter earlier in the week, saying: "He was fine about it and left without a fuss. He’d been refused a drink earlier in the week, I think it was Wednesday evening. He was slurring his words." Liam Gallagher spent Saturday night (March 9) at London club night This Feeling, which saw the premiere of a new Beady Eye song. Gallagher went to the club to see his Beady Eye bandmate, guitarist Andy Bell, DJing, and gave Bell the green light to play an unnamed track thought to be the band's next single.
Injured Guns n Roses concertgoer begins legal action after Axl Rose mic-toss incident It seems like Axl Rose is the news for all the wrong reasons again. An Australian Guns N’ Roses fan who had his teeth shattered at the band’s recent Perth gig is in the process of taking legal action after he was injured when Axl Rose apparently tossed his cordless microphone into the crowd. The mic hit fan Darren Wright in the face and caused approximately $5000 worth of damage. Guns N’ Roses are well known for their spectacular live show, which is packed full of pyro and massive lighting rigs. Unfortunately for Darren Wright, those components apparently impeded his vision enough so that he didn’t see Axl’s wayward microphone heading towards his face. “With the bright lights and explosions, I couldn’t see anything,” Wright tells the West Australian. “The next thing I knew, I was whacked in the mouth. I thought I had been punched. I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realize what was going on. I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.” Wright left the concert with his two front teeth chipped, painfully exposing a nerve in one tooth, along with suffering a minor cut on his lip. The 39-year-old has spoken to Perth law firm Hammond Legal to begin legal proceedings against Rose, although Wright holds no personal grudge against the GN’R singer. “I don’t think he intended to do it, but it came at me at a fairly flat and hard trajectory,” explains Wright. “Those cordless microphones are not light. I’m surprised it didn’t do more damage,” he said. “At the very least, I want someone to pay to get my teeth fixed.” Tour promoter Andrew McManus extended the olive branch to the injured fan, offering Wright an apology along with a new microphone signed by Axl Rose. “In reality I don’t think the microphone is going to fix my teeth or pay for the dentist,” I’m a father of four on a single income doing it hard in Perth.” Wright says Wright claims that according to a dentist, procedures to fix the fan’s teeth would take months of work costing at least $5000.
Lil Wayne rushed to hospital due to multiple seizures While shooting his latest music video on Tuesday night, Lil Wayne fell victim to multiple seizures. He was rushed to Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, was released on Wednesday and is said to be recovering well. No one has let slip what is wrong with Lil Wayne, though he has had these seizures previously. In October last year, while on a flight from Texas to LA the plane he was on was forced to make an emergency stop at Louisiana where he was admitted to hospital. We wish Lil Wayne well and hope he gets better soon.
Volume Conflict’s Triston Smith speaks out why the band has been so quiet of late If you are a big Volume Conflict fan as me then you would also be wondering what the band has been so quiet of late. Well the band has been very busy lately; in fact VERY busy is an understatement. They have been in the writing process of a full length album which should be out hopefully some time Mid-year. I for one can’t wait to hear the new album Volume Conflict’s Lead vocalist Triston Smith had this to say in Facebook status to all Volume Conflict fans: We been getting some inquiries concerning a certain subject & I think it's time to just clear a little bit of air about it. For all of you interested in knowing where Volume Conflict have been, it just so happens that we have been working our bones to a grind & we are in the writing process of our very first full length album which we hope to release somewhere mid-year. Though it's still very early days & far from hitting the shelves, touring will follow straight after production & print but it would be pretty safe to say the writing stage of this project has been going fantastic thus far. But for you few & wonderful VC fans out there I'd just like to say till this very inspiring but also tiring by times process is done we will be off the radar while in our attempt of bringing you the best Volume Conflict have yet had to offer. Hang in there cause we aim to not disappoint your amazing loyalty thus far & are surely giving our very all in bringing you a truly transcendent release from the VC camp. So till then, thanx again for your support & we will from time to time be sure to try & keep you up to date on progress. Much love, peace & respect!!!! - Tristan Smith (Volume Conflict)
T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom’s corporate customer arm, donates R40 000 to the Zip Zap Circus School’s outreach project in Khayelitsha T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom’s corporate customer arm, today donated R40,000 to the Zip Zap Circus School’s outreach project in Khayelitsha. The donation was made during a Zip Zap student workshop, with CirqueduSoleil’s Dralion performers at Grand West Arena, hosted by T-Systems. Zip Zap Circus’s outreach programme, entitled Ubuntu, creates a fun and safe space for HIV positive children who are receiving anti-retroviral treatment (ART) but are not yet aware of their status. Every Wednesday teachers and older students from Zip Zap, travel to the Khayelitsha MSF center, and entertain the children waiting in line for their treatment. “Ubuntu aims to bring some fun and enjoyment to these young kids while they are waiting for their turn. It also aims to create the safe space they need when they are told about the disease, as most of the kids attend disclosure talks with counselors while they are at the clinic,” said Laurence Estevee, co-founder of Zip Zap. The space consists of two containers with a playing area in between them. So far the Ubuntu programme has improved the space with a mat between the containers and a roof over the playing area. “The reality these kids face every day is a battle,” says Laurence. “But with Ubuntu we’ve seen smiles and laughter. Their faces light up when we play with them and they don’t want to leave at the end of the session.” Gert Schoonbee, MD T-Systems South Africa adds, “T-Systems is committed to making a significant contribution to South Africa, not only through the growth and sustainability of our business, but through investment in the country through initiatives such as this one.
REBURN returns with 'Won't Let Go'
Having achieved national acclaim with their first studio album 'All Tied Up’ in 2009, the lusty lads from REBURN return with a vengeance and a smash hit in the making. Not a group to ever rest on their laurels, Scottie Moore (frontman), Alex McFarlane (guitar/vocals), Craig Hermanus (guitar/vocals), Quinton van Rooyen (bass) and Wade Brown (drums) have been hard at work alongside Brendyn “Rusti” Rossouw, Neal Snyman and Rogan Kelsey, crafting a new album (working title: 'We Are Here’) that will be made available to their growing fan base in late August of 2013. A relatively recent addition to the South African band scene, REBURN have, in an unbelievably short amount of time, made giant inroads with local audiences who are notoriously unsympathetic and have come to expect a certain level of production and performance value. Luckily for all concerned, REBURN knows how to bring it. REBURN's first single, 'No Other Place' succeeded in catapulting the group into the national spotlight, mainly due to heavy rotation on 5FM and other radio stations across the country (including MFM, PUK FM, UCT Radio, Two Oceans Vibe, Zone Radio and Voice of Wits). Further recent developments include a well-received performance at RAMfest, as Upcoming REBURN shows: well as signing up with Southern Pulse booking agents, who are working alongside the band mem- 22 March - Mercury Live 6 April - Buckleys Bellville bers to put together a nationwide tour that 19 April - VIVA Cafe will kick off in July. 26th - 28th April - Mossel Bay & George The new single, the second off the new album to Tour be released to an eager public, is called 'Won't Let Go' and represents a labour of love for front man Scottie Moore, who says the song came together organically and concerns the state of mind of individuals who struggle to let go of past relationships and fail to see the promise of the future. Says Moore: "It’s so different from our other tracks, but really gives you the feeling of where we are heading as a band. We are very proud of how this song turned out!" This is the final single that will be released off the album before its launch, so make sure to keep an ear out for this newest red hot offering* from Cape Town's favourite British Indie Rock troop.

Son of 1000 release new album’s title The guys from Son of 1000 have been very busy in the studio recording their next album and we have some news of what we can expect when this album is released. First of we can announce the new album will be called ROCKETFINGERKNUCKLEPUNCH. According to the band the album will boast 11 tracks and each song is as good as the next and the band has too many favorites to mention. A release date has not been set yet as the band is taking their time on these recordings so they can make the album sound very tight with no loose ends untied. If this album is anything like the first album then I can say we are all in for a huge treat.
The Anti-Retro Vinyls release song names for the new album Being a Durban boy myself I am always happy when a Durban band makes a success of their music. Although they have relocated to Johannesburg they are still making Durban proud by working hard in the studio and preparing
songs for their first album under the Record Label Just music. The new album is expected to be caaled “Trouble”. You might recognize a few of the songs names from the early days of this band but there are also some new ones thrown in the mix and I for one can’t wait to hear the new album which is apparently set for release in April. Take a look at this image below to get a full list of the name of the tracks which will be on the new album.
My chemical Romance break up, lead singer Gerard Way explains his views in a letter to the fans ………………... So if you haven’t heard by now My chemical romance have officially broken up. Although the details are still very sketchy, lead singer Gerard Way explains his thoughts in a lengthy letter to his former band mates and fans. A Vigil, On Birds and Glass. I woke up this morning still dreaming, or not fully aware of myself just yet. The sun poked through the windows, touching my face, and then a deep sadness overcame me, immediately, bringing me to life and realization- My Chemical Romance had ended. I walked downstairs to do the only thing I could think of to regain composureI made coffee. As the drip began, in that kind of silence that only happens in the morning, and being the only one awake, I stepped outside my home, leaving the door open behind me. I looked around and began to breathe. Things looked to be about the same- a beautiful day. As I turned to step back into the house I heard sound from within, a chirp and a rustle. And I noticed a small brown bird had flown into the library. Naturally, I panicked. I knew I had to see the bird to safety and I knew I had to retain the order of things in our home, and he very well couldn’t take up residency with us. I chased him (still assuming he was a he) into my office, where I have these very large windows. Just then, and luckily, I heard Lindsey’s footsteps coming down the stairs, and naturally being composed as she is, she grabbed a blanket and stepped into the office. He was impossible to catch, and I began to open the windows, via Lindsey’s direction, only to find out they were screened. The bird began to fly into the glass, over and over and in all different directions. Smack, Smack, Smack! I heard another set of footsteps, Bandit’s, running down the stairs in anticipation of the new day. Her entrance into the situation caused just the right amount of chaos (she was very excited to meet the bird) and we found ourselves chasing the bird into the living room. Knowing that this where it could potentially get sticky, being the high ceilings and the beams to perch on, I opened the front door as Lindsey did her best to encourage our new friend out the door. After some coaxing, flying, chirping, a wrong turn back into the library and a short goodbye to Bandit, he simply hopped out the front door- taking off on the fifth leap. We cheered. I was no longer sad. I didn’t realize it, but I stopped being sad the minute that bird had come into my life, because there was something that needed doing, a small vessel to aid and an order to keep. I closed the door. I decided to write the letter I always knew I would. It is often my nature to be abstract, hidden in plain sight, or nowhere at all. I have always felt that the art I have made (alone or with friends) contains all of my intent when executed properly, and thus, no explanation required. It is simply not in my nature to excuse, explain, or justify any action I have taken as a result of thinking it through with a clear head, and in my truth. I had always felt this situation involving the end of this band would be different, in the eventuality it happened. I would be cryptic in its existence, and open upon its death. The clearest actions come from truth, not obligation. And the truth of the matter is that I love every one of you. So, if this finds you well, and sheds some light on anything, or my personal account and feelings on the matter, then it is out of this love, mutual and shared, not duty. Love. This was always my intent. My Chemical Romance: 2001-2013 We were spectacular. Every show I knew this, every show I felt it with or without external confirmation. There were some clunkers, sometimes our secondhand gear broke, sometimes I had no voice- we were still great. It is this belief that made us who we were, but also many other things, all of them vital. And all of the things that made us great were the very things that were going to end usFiction. Friction. Creation. Destruction. Opposition. Aggression. Ambition. Heart. Hate. Courage. Spite. Beauty. Desperation. LOVE. Fear. Glamour. Weakness. Hope.Fatalism. That last one is very important. My Chemical Romance had, built within its core, a fail-safe. A doomsday device, should certain events occur or cease occurring, would detonate. I shared knowledge of this “flaw” within weeks of its inception. Personally, I embraced it because, again, it made us perfect. A perfect machine, beautiful, yet self aware of it’s system. Under directive to terminate before it becomes compromised. To protect the idea- at all costs. This probably sounds like something ripped from the pages of a four-color comic book, and that’s the point. No compromise. No surrender. No f*cking shit. To me that’s rock and roll. And I believe in rock and roll.
I wasn’t shy about who I said this to, not the press, or a fan, or a relative. It’s in the lyrics, it’s in the banter. I often watched the journalists snicker at mention of it, assuming I was being sensational or melodramatic (in their defense I was most likely dressed as an apocalyptic marching-band leader with a tear-away hospital gown and a face covered in expressionist paint, so fair enough). I’m still not sure if the mechanism worked correctly, because it wasn’t a bang but a much slower process. But still the same result, and still for the same reason- When it’s time, we stop. It is important to understand that for us, the opinion on whether or not it is in fact time does not transmit from the audience. Again, this is to protect the idea for the benefit of the audience. Many a band have waited for external confirmation that it is time to hang it up, via ticket sales, chart positioning, boos and bottles of urine- input that holds no sway for us, and often too late when it comes anyway. You should know it in your being, if you listen to the truth inside you. And voice inside became louder than the music. <At this point, I take a break to receive a visit from old friends, all of which were instrumental in some way to the beginnings of the band. We talk about the old days, and we talk about music, we talk about new things. We laugh and drink diet soda. We say goodbyes, I go to bed, to resume my letter in the morning, which is-> Now- There are many reasons My Chemical Romance ended. The triggerman is unimportant, as was always the messengers- but the message, again as always, is the important thing. But to reiterate, this is my account, my reasons and my feelings. And I can assure you there was no divorce, argument, failure, accident, villain, or knife in the back that caused this, again this was no one’s fault, and it had been quietly in the works, whether we knew it or not, long before any sensationalism, scandal, or rumor. There wasn’t even a blaze of glory in a hail of bullets… I am backstage in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It is Saturday, May 19th, 2012 and I am pacing behind a massive black curtain that leads to the stage. I feel the breeze from the ocean find its way around me and I look down at my arms, which are covered in fresh gauze due to a losing battle with a heat rash, which had been a mysterious problem in recent months. I am normally not nervous before a show but I am certainly filled with angry butterflies most of the time. This is different- a strange anxiety jetting through me that I can only imagine is the sixth sense one feels before their last moments alive. My pupils have zeroed-out and I have ceased blinking. My body temperature is icy. We get the cue to hit the stage. The show is… good. Not great, not bad, just good. The first thing I notice take me by surprise is not the enormous amount of people in front of us but off to my left- the shore and the vastness of the ocean. Much more blue than I remembered as a boy. The sky is just as vibrant. I perform, semi-automatically, and something is wrong. I am acting. I never act on stage, even when it appears that I am, even when I’m hamming it up or delivering a soliloquy. Suddenly, I have become highly selfaware, almost as if waking from a dream. I began to move faster, more frantic, reckless- trying to shake it off- but all it began to create was silence. The amps, the cheers, all began to fade. All that what left was the voice inside, and I could hear it clearly. It didn’t have to yell- it whispered, and said to me briefly, plainly, and kindly- what it had to say. What it said is between me and the voice. I ignored it, and the following months were full of suffering for me- I hollowed out, stopped listening to music, never picked up a pencil, started slipping into old habits. All of the vibrancy I used to see became de-saturated. Lost. I used to see art or magic in everything, especially the mundane- the ability was buried under wreckage. Slowly, once I had done enough damage to myself, I began to climb out of the hole. Clean. When I made it out, the only thing left inside was the voice, and for the second time in my life, I no longer ignored it- because it was my own. There are many roles for all of us to play in this ending. We can be well-wishers, ill-wishers, sympathizers, vilifiers, comedians, rain clouds, victims- That last one, again, is important. I have never thought myself a victim, nor my comrades, nor the fans- especially not the fans. For us to adopt that role right now would legitimize everything the tabloids have tried to name us. More importantly, it completely misses the point of the band. And then what have we learned? With honor, integrity, closure, and on no one’s terms but our own- the door closes. And another opens- This morning I awoke early. I quickly brushed my teeth, threw on some baggy jeans, and hopped in my car. I gently sped down the 405 through the morning fog to a random parking lot in Palo Verde, where I was to meet a nice gentleman named Norm. He was older, and a self-proclaimed “hippie” but he also had the energy of Sixteen year old in a garage-rock band. The purpose of the meeting was the delivery of an amplifier into my possession. I had recently purchased the amp from him and we both agreed that shipping would jostle the tubes- so he was kind enough to meet me in the middle. A Fender Princeton Amp from 1965, non reverb. A beautiful little device. He showed me the finer points, the speaker, the non-grounded plug, the original label and the chalk mark of the man or woman who built it- “This amp talks.” he said. I smiled. We got coffee, talked about gold-foil pickups and life. We sat in the car and played each other music we had made. We parted ways, promising to stay in touch, I drove home. When I wanted to start My Chemical Romance, I began by sitting in my parent’s basement, picking up an instrument I had long abandoned for the brush- a guitar. It was a 90’s Fender Mexican Stratocaster, Lake Placid Blue, but in my youth I had decided it was too clean and pretty so I beat it up, exposing some of the red paint underneath the blue- the color it was meant to be. Adding a piece of duct tape on the pick guard, it felt acceptable. I plugged this into a baby Crate Amp with built in distortion and began the first chords of Skylines and Turnstiles. I still have that guitar, and it’s sitting next to The Princeton. He has a voice, and I would like to hear what it has to say. In closing, I want to thank every single fan. I have learned from you, maybe more than you think you’ve learned from me. My only regret is that I am awful with names and bad with goodbyes. But I never forget a face, or a feeling- and that is what I have left from all of you. I feel Love. I feel love for you, for our crew, our team, and for every single human being I have shared the band and stage with- Ray. Mikey. Frank. Matt. Bob. James. Todd. Cortez. Tucker. Pete. Michael. Jarrod. Since I am bad with goodbyes. I refuse to let this be one. But I will leave you with one last thingMy Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band- It is an idea.
Love, Gerard
Hi Luna, I’m so excited to be finally featuring you in Fanbase Music magazine, can you tell us how did it all start, what made you want to become a musician? I a little girl I was always singing. At that stage I had a very shrill and high pitched voice. It was only in high school that I realized that I am an alto and not a soprano. It was during my high school years that I started writing my own songs and built up the courage to perform in front of my fellow students. University was the time that I started believing that I could perhaps do this for a living. Singing felt good. Writing and singing is how I express myself and even sort out my own miniscule issues. Did you come from a musical background? My grandmother used to sing operettas at work functions. She was the warden of a women’s prison. According to my mother she was quite the drama queen and entertainer and had the people in stitches. My mother sang as well and gained the title of “Nagtegaal van Bronkhorstspruit”. That’s quite funny! My father also played in a band (he was the drummer). So yes, music was definitely in the family – although I never actually knew about it until I started performing.
You have a few albums out, and even a DVD, can you tell us a bit about your recordings and albums? My first recording was in 1999. I was invited to perform and record 3 songs on a compilation album with various female artists. This was my first taste of the studio and I absolutely loved it. In 2003 I made my first self-titled album. It was an EP with 7 songs that we recorded over 3 days. I still remember those days – it was so exciting. My first official album! Then in 2005 I asked Schalk Joubert to produce my second album, Missing Pieces. This was my first full length album and it got quite a lot of airplay. 2009 I brought out my 3rd album, Wonderful life. This one was self-produced (with the help of all of my colleagues). I experimented slightly more with various genres on this album. For me this album marks a time in my career when I realized I need to play with various genres. Then in 2012 came, Storielied. It is my first Afrikaans album and my first live DVD and CD. I am very proud of it. It took years for me to finally write in Afrikaans. This product has opened so many doors for me it’s ridiculous.
“As a little girl I was always singing”
You have done both English and Afrikaans songs albums, was it hard switching between the two and were both genres received well from your fan club?
You already have so much talent under your belt, with album, gigs and even theatre, what does the future have hold for you now, what can we expect from the great Luna Paige
The cross over from English to Afrikaans was an issue I had to sort out in my head. I was opposed to the idea simply because I didn’t like most Afrikaans lyrics and didn’t think I could write something that would stand out above the rest. Lyrical content is very important to me. But once I had a concept and I started writing – it was so much easier than anticipated. And it was fun! Many say they feel that my Afrikaans music feels so much more real and captivating. I enjoy singing in both languages. They both create a space in which I explore different aspects of myself. In terms of fans – it is always interesting to see reactions. I have found many English speaking people that love the Afrikaans music and some Afrikaans audiences that prefer the English. You never really know how people are going to respond.
I decided not to release anything this year. I want to focus on marketing all my released albums. Although there are so many new songs – I really want to perfect them this time and make sure they are unforgettable. 2013 is pre-production year. In the meantime I will be performing in Holland in June – which I am so very excited about. When I started working on my Afrikaans album – my main mission was to take the product to Holland. I can hardly believe it is actually happening. Next year I want to perform in the UK and the US. I will be taking my English material there. If there is one thing I realized – it is that the world is not that big and that we as artists have to travel and perform abroad. It expands your musical horizons and feeds our creativity. I will also be performing at the annual STRAB festival in Mozambique and will be participating in the Innibos Festival when I get back from Holland. I might be releasing a single in November. I just might.
If I have never been to a Luna Paige gig, what can I expect if I was to watch you perform?
Do you have any social networks, how can our readers get hold of you?
That’s a difficult one. Some reviewer once said there is a lack of sex and showiness when I perform. He referred to me as a wholesome (vegetarian!) option (yes, he did)! It is a strange comparison to make, but I guess in a sense he is right. I have never been a fashion guru or an extrovert that pounces around on stage. It’s me, my piano and my guitar. I like to share the stories behind the songs. I have found people react to them so much better when they have some inside info. The music is listen music. It makes no sense to come to my show if you are not there to listen. When the setting and money is right I have my incredible band with me. Then the sound of the show changes entirely and one can even consider dancing to a tune or two. I am aiming to perform a lot more with the band this year. They are Schalk Joubert on bass, Willem Moller on electric guitar and Kevin Gibson on drums.

Do you get nervous when you are on stage? I have found I get more nervous in front of smaller audiences. When you perform in front of a big audience the space between you and them is so huge you don’t really realize what’s happening. It’s almost like being scared when looking down from a ladder but not when you sky dive. I once heard someone say the day you stop getting nervous, you should stop making music. I believe that. The adrenalin is what ups the performance. You are currently collaborating with blues legend Gerald Clark, how is it working with him, and can you tell us a bit more about what it is you do? We do a collaborative blues and country show where we perform original songs as well as cover songs that we enjoy. We make it our own entirely. We accompany each other vocally and instrumentally. It is a lot of fun performing with Gerald. His excitement and love for what he does is contagious. This collaboration has pushed me in a different musical direction and taught me a lesson or two in terms of working on your craft and constantly renewing your sound and repertoire. I am still shy about collaborating, but willing to do so more and more. Collaborations are important lessons.

SA Band Signs UK Record Deal If passion was a movie, Crimson Chrysalis’ Crimson Passion Cry would be the sound track. You don’t just listen to their music, you feel it - it creeps into your ears and flows through your body, filling your heart with emotion that spills over into the soul. This extraordinary band is bound to rise as the dark horse of the South African music scene - the album is theatrical and bursting with emotion. The hauntingly beautiful lyrics are poetically deep, oozing with verses that combust into ballads that stir the inner depths of the heart. It is no wonder that UK record label Ravenheart Music signed a recording deal with South Africa’s Crimson Chrysalis after bathing in the sounds of Crimson Passion Cry. It’s a musical revelation and a first for the SA music market, a classic rock masterpiece consisting of 13 original tracks each one a work of art. René van den Berg’s compelling vocals, renders and transforms every nuance and emotion of the superb lyrics into an audio feast. She most certainly proves herself as a vastly accomplished vocalist with beautiful harmony and distinctive fundamentals that translates outstandingly. Without any hesitation, lavish credit should be bestowed on Esther Slabbert for her penmanship. Together they form a tour de force and the fusion of their talents delivered an epic album that will not only capture the hearts and imaginations of a local audience, but that will be recognized across the globe. “We are delighted by the news from our label, Sting Music that it is confirmed that Ravenheart Music in the UK has signed the album for worldwide promotion and physical distribution. It is still a bit
unreal to us that this has happened only 5 months after the official release of the album. Ravenheart is a much respected label in the UK and Europe, as well as the US, focusing on female-fronted symphonic rock and metal bands” says René van den Berg. What you like about Zone Radio? It’s like a family, unique and very special and we play the best music ever. What made you get into radio? I showed him good! Now he’s living a grey flannel life and I’m living my dreams. What’s your fave genre of music? Hard to say but I love the eighties the most, not the fashion, just the music. What would be your dream play list if you had to play your top 10 songs of all time?

Hi there Pierre, Thanx for featuring in Fanbase Music magazine. Can you tell us a bit about yourself, what it is you do, where did it all started as a musician? I started my musical-career as a drummer, at the young age of 12yrs, and played with various bands during high-school years. A shooting-accident during military-service severely damaged my right hand/wrist and ended my plans of continuing a career as a professional drummer! Being a natural musician, i progressed to guitar at the age of 15 and continued my passion for music, by performing in various pubs, booze-cruises and beach-parties, over the years. I am a qualified Tool & Diemaker, and own a Property Maintenance business in Knysna. Did you come from a musical background? One of my grandfathers played accordion. but I am the only person in the family who pursued my musical-goals. I started drumming at the age of 9yrs of age. When I was in Grade 7 my father bought me a set of drums. Whilst my friends were working as waiters, I gigged with various bands during high school and earned my pocket money that way. I then progressed to playing guitar, when I was 16 years old.
What sort of music did you listen to when you were growing up, what is some of your musical influences? My musical-influences are wide-spread, and are from the 70's right through to 2013, in the likes of Pink Floyd/Bread/Cat Stevens/Chris Rea/Dire Straits/Travis/Coldplay/Oasis. You won the ”Best New Artist” award, on Pirate Radio of The Treasure Coast, Florida, USA’s Rockstar Contest in July ,2011 ,with your song “Runaway” receiving 4.6 million votes from 75 countries and 40 networks, how was that experience for you? Winning the "Best New Artist Award", was quite a thrill due to the fact that I’m basically a nobody on the SA Music scene, and being acknowledged from an American point of view, makes it even more rewarding. An added thrill was appearing on a Pat-winners web-page/ poster with the likes of Adele/Katy Perry/Amy Winehouse/ Nickelback. If we have never been to one of your gigs, what could we expect? Whilst I’m currently focusing on songwriting, I do unplugged gigs at houses/restaurants, which allow the audience to interact/sing-along.....consider it, a team-building vibe if you wish. You are known for your great song writing, where do you find your inspiration from? My songwriting was influenced by personal experiences, and general day to day stuff...yet i consider it like playing chess....planning/structuring songs well, and try to incorporate what is currently acceptable etc..
Do you have an album out or somewhere, where we can listen to your music? I recorded an self-titled EP initially, and added a few more songs in 2010 in order to create an album "Diary" which has been distributed digitally to 28 retailers globally...including Amazon/ itunes/Rhapsody/Last fm. It is available on itunes,ZA https://itunes.apple.com/za/album/desert-light/id415092711? i=415092717&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Do you have any social networks etc that people can get hold of you on? I have a fanpage on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/PierreOpperman/103338019700406?ref=hl&bookmark_t=page Twitter acount: https://twitter.com/PierreOpperman Reverbnation: http://www.reverbnation.com/pierreopperman My album was recorded at Peace of Eden Recording Studio,Knysna by Howard Butcher, who as a SAM-nominated engineer, has done albums for the likes of Dan Patlansky/John Ellis/ Andrew James....and...and... http://edenmultimedia.co.za/index.php?t=artists
Stephan Ferreira is just an ordinary guy suffering from a severe case of insomnia and an unhealthy love for books. Apart from reading, Stephan spends most of his time hating Kylie Minogue. His opinions are his own and cannot always be trusted.
Augusten Burroughs Magical Thinking Augusten Burroughs first made a name for himself when his second book, Running with Scissors, spent eight weeks on the New York Times bestseller’s list in 2002. This is one accomplishment every author dreams about when they put pen to paper. And if they say they don’t – they’re lying. Burroughs spent little time celebrating his success because the following year his third book, Magical Thinking, hit the shelves. This collection of memoir essays shows Burroughs at his best. His obsession with transsexuals, short lived addiction to steroids, and a cruel conversation with a telemarketer turns out to be a laugh a minute. More often than not I find myself falling asleep when reading about the boring lives of others. This is gladly not the case with Magical Thinking. Burroughs has the ability to take every day experiences and turn them in to ruthlessly funny works of art. He is by far one of the most talented and witty writers the world has ever seen. His stories are profound, shocking, and sometimes just a little inappropriate. But one thing is for sure – you will find yourself smiling long after you turn the last page. A must read for everyone with a sense of humour, or a sincere appreciation for sarcasm.
Lorenzo Carcaterra Sleepers Lorenzo, Tommy, Michael and John were inseparable. Growing up in Hell’s Kitchen was tough but none of the trials or hardships could come between them. Poverty, domestic violence, and crime were not uncommon. But even though they were not related by blood, the four young boys were closer than brothers. They trusted each other completely and thought that there would never be an act of betrayal between them. Then on one hot afternoon during the summer of 1967, one of their pranks misfire and the boys are sent to a reformatory school for juvenile delinquents for twelve months where they endured systematic mental, physical and sexual abuse. Each of the boys found a different way to cope with the events that took place that year, but they remained friends and the bond between them proved to be too difficult to sever. Eleven years later Tommy and John seek revenge when they come face to face with one of their torturers. Loyalties are put to the test and the four men are forced to find out exactly how far they are willing to go to protect each other and their friendship. The fact this is a true story makes it troubling and unquestionably one of the most powerful stories ever written. Even though these boys committed a terrible crime, you cannot help but find yourself on their side. A truly original and brilliant book that will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions and by the time you finish reading it you will most probably recommend it to everyone you know. And you should.
Allan Hall Monster Monster is not a word that can even begin to describe Joseph Fritzl, an Austrian man, who kidnapped his own daughter Elisabeth. He did this because he didn’t want to lose control over her when he suspected that she was about to run away from home. After the kidnapping he locked her in a concealed basement and continuously raped, and sexually assaulted her over a period of 24 years. During this time Elisabeth had to survive. She had to survive with hardly any fresh air or food or sunlight and with absolutely no contact whatsoever with the outside world. Over the years the rapes increased in frequency and Elisabeth was now faced with a brand new nightmare – pregnancy. Her own father got her pregnant. Not once. Not twice. But eight times. When most women give birth they are surrounded by doctors and nurses and there is always the option of drugs to numb the pain. This was not the case in Elisabeth’s story. She gave birth to seven babies, suffered one miscarriage and her only comfort was an old, outdated medical book on childbirth. Despite everything Elisabeth was an amazing mother. She did whatever she could to protect the kids from Fritzl and to give them the best life possible under such circumstances. On April 19, 2008 these traumatizing events finally came to an end when Elisabeth (42) managed to escape. After 24 years she was finally free but, like everything else in life, freedom came with a price. This is the unbelievable story of a young woman and the extraordinary lengths she had to go to in order to protect herself and her children. Her courage and determination is absolutely astonishing. The fact that she survived to tell the story is nothing short of a miracle.

After the much anticipated wait the 15th of March finally arrived! Despite the long lines and strict security at the door, who initially did not let in people without having their ID books on them, the wait was nothing short of worthwhile. Lowprofile (DBN) opened up the show. Their rad set filled the atmosphere with excitement and good vibes, making us locals proud! I haven’t seen Pestroy (JHB) perform live before and it was great to see new talent emerging. They did a fantastic job of preparing the audience for Bring Me the Horizon (UK). The wait for Bring Me the Horizon to appear on stage left me feeling anxious, excited and overwhelmed, knowing that I only had the first three songs to take photos in the photographer pit. The fact that no flash photography was allowed only added to my stress. As soon as they came on stage the crowd roared! They opened with their new single, Shadow Moses. The crowd went mental and the mosh pit ripped open! I went trigger happy immediately the moment that energy filled the Wave House! Oliver Sykes was all over the stage running around constantly, jumping and spitting on stage. This made it hard to capture still framed shots. The lighting and sound along with their stage presence was excellent and it kept the eager crowd captivated. The most memorable part of the evening, in my opinion, was when Oliver Sykes separated the crowd and demanded a WALL OF DEATH! This resulted in quite a few injuries, including a friend of mine who fractured his arm. Once they finished their set, the crowd was too broken and exhausted to call for an encore.
Rise Against (USA) took to the stage, blowing the crowd away! I was amazed at how much energy the electric guitarist had and really enjoyed taking pictures of him doing tricks. I thoroughly enjoyed their set. I was expecting them to sound different live but I was highly impressed by the fact that they sounded just like they do when recorded in studio. The lead singer, Tim Mcllrath, reassured the crowd that they would be returning to South Africa at a later stage. They ended up playing for an extra twenty minutes when the crowd started screaming encore and shouting out the names of songs that they had hoped would be performed. The night was amazing beyond expectation and to top it off I got to meet Matt Kean, the bassist of Bring Me the Horizon. I will definitely be at RAMfest 2014!

Elvis Blue’s journey started when he was a young boy, singing in school choirs, and busking on the streets of Johannesburg and Scotland. After a stint overseas as a street musician, Elvis returned to South Africa where he decided to study contemporary music. While living in George he met the friend whose name he would adopt in 2008. “My wife works at an organisation that is a hospice and children’s home and I met this little boy there when I used to go and play my guitar for them. He really wanted to be a keyboard player, and his name was Elvis Blaauw”, he says. When he passed away in 2009, as a tribute to this amazing young man, Jan Hoogendyk adopted his name and Elvis Blue was born. In 2010, Elvis Blue won the title of Mnet Idol for that year – sharing half the profit with runner up Lloyd Cele. In that year Elvis Blue released the album simply titled Elvis Blue. On the album’s release in November 2010, it shot up the radio and sales charts and today enjoys platinum sales status with sales in excess of 50 000 copies, all powered by its three smash-hit singes “Things my father said”, “Lighthouse” and “Save Me”. NEW GENERATION TALENT - SPOTLIGHT ON DJ ADIE News Café Bedfordview was spoiled by the sounds of rising DJ, Adrien Conradie AKA DJ Adie on Saturday 23 rd March. The performance was the second leg of the ‘Addicted’ Club Tour and was supported by Royal K, Peter Booth, Trademarc, Vin GrooVin, Cody B, Andyman and Pat & Khume. Straight off the decks I was impressed. DJ Adie has a clear flavour of his own with a smooth progression between tracks, coupled with a funky look. To call him mainstream would be a compliment and an insult at the same time because I think he has the raw talent to play with the big shots on the scene, while still having something unique to offer. Giving the crowd a reason to get up and dance, is exactly what he did. I picked up distinct similarities between Adrien’s mix and a few of the new kids on the DJ scene in South Africa currently. That being said, his range is slightly more diverse which I feel the older crowd at News Café was despondent to half-way through his set. This did nothing to slow him down and while the more mature ‘vibe’ rested their feet and quenched their thirst, DJ Adie continued to amaze me. Perhaps at some point the wind changed direction, and again the dance floor was buzzing. I couldn’t decide if it was his quirky smile or his combination of Bingo Players with Kanye West and Jay Z that sealed the deal, but DJ Adie is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on. Considering his age, I see Adrien Conradie going far with his musical career and just about any venture he may choose to tackle in the future. So go check him out on his current ‘Addicted’ tour, you won’t be disappointed!
Interview by : Camella Reed
Name: Adrien Conradie Nickname/stage name: DJ Adie Age: 19 Where are you from? Benoni, Johannesburg. How did you get into the scene? Well my interest in DJ'ing started when I was in high school. I'd gone to the same school as DJ Euphonik and everyone always looked up to him. So I started going to gigs of his around Jo'burg and I watched how a person could stand in front of a crowd and just connect with them through their music. And from that moment I knew that this is what I wanted to do. So I went out and got myself some cheap equipment and started to teach myself. After a while I started looking for gigs but because of my age people were reluctant to give me any opportunities and that's when I linked up with U-party as one of their resident DJs and from there it just kept growing. Any achievements? In 2012 I started my own podcast, the ADDICTED Mix Show (https://soundcloud.com/dj-adie/sets/addictedpodcasts), which in over it's short life span has managed to reach 2000 listeners worldwide. The attention from this prompted F! Records (A division of Soul Candi Records) to approach me to mix their first Digital Compilation. "ADDICTED". It was released on iTunes and various other digital platforms in February 2013 and on it's debut charted at number 4 on the iTunes ZA Dance chart, higher than any other S.A. artist at the time. The success of the compilation caught the attention of Red Bull South Africa who have now endorsed me and who are actively working with myself on various projects.
Any advise for people who want to do what you're doing? It's clear that in this age, DJs are the new rockstars. Everybody wants to be one for the fame and fortune nowadays. My advice to anyone looking to be a DJ is don't do it for anyone else but yourself. Don't do it for the money because you will work the skin off of your knuckles playing in the darkest holes for next to nothing (if you're lucky to even get something), and the only thing that has kept me going all along is the passion that I have for sharing the music that I love with a room full of people. It's a competitive industry and the only way you will get back up every time people knock you down is by believing in yourself and loving what you do.
Where do you get your biggest influence from? I can't say that I get my influence and inspiration from one place alone. Obviously Euphonik played a big role when I was starting out. But as I began to immerse myself more in the DJ and Dance culture I began to look at international artists of a similar age like Nicky Romero, Zedd and Porter Robinson the "next" generation of stars in the international scene, and I began to model myself around them, but still trying to retain a clear image of what "Adie" should be. The highlight of your career so far? The highlight of my career has most likely been the opportunities U-party have given me to headline their events. Playing for 2000 teenagers is an incredible experience. It's not like a club where people are drinking and doing their own thing. Everyone's eyes are on YOU, watching you. The feeling you get seeing and hearing that many people moving to your music is indescribable.
CATCH DJ ALDIE AT THE FOLLOWING DATES AND VENUES Friday 5 April - News Cafe Bedfordview Saturday 6 April - St. David's U-party
The eagerly anticipated last leg of the Ramfest 2013 tour hit the Joburg highveld with a bang! Taking place on the 15th and 16th March at Riversands Farm in Fourways, and having generated plenty hype after Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth had each had a share. Only able to attend the Saturday celebrations, I did my best to get opinions from people who had attended the Friday evening, as well as the (not so happy) campers. So lets get into the nitty gritty negative feedback, moving swiftly onto the positive. Some criticism I found pointed fingers at the following: Denying right of entry for campers into the entertainment area with juice and/or water. When rules on the website only made reference to “alcohol from campsite to entertainment area not being permitted”. Nowhere on any social media, website or festival ticket did it mention the fact that a ‘cash card’ needed to be purchased for R10, to enable one to buy food, drink etc. Only once attempting to buy at a bar or stall did this become apparent. Discrepancies between entrance times into the entertainment area for campers compared to day-visitors. Campers not being allowed to drive up to the campsite to offload heavy items. Of course with festivals of this nature, the Right of Admission is reserved for all parties representing it such as security and organisers etc. But a bitter taste was left in the outspoken mouths of some festival attendee’s. Now moving on to the reason we all went, the music!
I find myself going to many events, only interested in seeing one or two of the performers. For me Ramfest was all about Rise Against. Fortunately I found myself captivated by more talent than I bargained for. ‘Twelv and Thesis’ lit up the Omeca Electronic Stage, not surprising considering their strong following! What was surprising was the ‘cross-breeding’ of fans from the electronic stage to the main stage and the boom stage. Music appreciation, cross-genre thrills me because I’m a mixed breed myself! I will admit to getting slightly distracted by the Monster track right behind us, with the bikers showing off their mad skills. As soon as those engines started roaring, the flock followed almost instantaneously. Additional attractions like these are becoming more prevalent at music festivals and I see why. It appeals to so many people and adds an element of exhilaration for fans who need that ‘pick-me-up’ to get blood pumping again, just in time for the main attractions.
Returning from the parking lot after grabbing something warmer to wear, there’s no way we could’ve walked past the Red Heart Main Stage without being mesmerised by ‘Pestroy’. Wedging between the heaving mass, we found our spot for the remainder of the evening. The guys were amazing from start to finish, what they lacked in crowd interaction they made up for in raw talent. This South African alternative band has been around for ages purely due to their non-conformist attitude and obvious gift for creating music! And their Ramfest performance was amazing. Bring Me The Horizon. Epic. Honestly having never ever heard one of their songs, I was captivated with this band. Their ability to control the crowd with minimal effort was remarkable, with much of the thanks having to go to Oliver, their lead singer. People got crazy and a mosh pit of sweaty, unruly folks (mainly guys) ensued, with drunk enthusiasm and edgy tempers. These types of situations are expected and I choose to exclude myself from the idiotic clusters. As they finished their set, I vowed to google them and follow ‘Bring Me’ in the future! Okay can I sneak in a complaint here, even though I know it’s not something that is likely to change? The time between bands, allocated to sound set-up for the subsequent band… Is 60 minutes really how long it takes? A whole hour to arrange sound equipment for what I assume is a somewhat prerehearsed system? That’s my little rant, now onto the best part of the night. RISE AGAINST. Tim and the guys were nothing short of brilliance!
Having pre-googled the set-list, I knew exactly when my song, “Satellite” was going to play! I remember looking around at the crowd and wondering if I was in a dream, the musical passion blaring in our eardrums. I was in awe of their stage presence, I loved every second of their performance. Tim won over any critics with the first encore of ‘Hero of War’ and ‘Swing Life Away’ both performed acoustically, his voice drifting so clearly and magically through the entire Riversand Farm. The second encore was like a massive cherry placed perfectly on top, ending with ‘Savior’ much to the fans enjoyment. When Rise Against finished, I was completely satisfied with their performance and knowing that they truly gave their all to the show. I doubt I stand alone when saying that I was completely blown away.

Just Music Sessions
By: Matt Williams
When Duwyne asked me to go to this show, I really wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not exactly a huge fan of house or dance music. Luckily, one of the three acts performing was GoodLuck. Juliet is a hottie, and the music they make just blows my mind. I was also very curious to see what the Chaplin Boys (Locnville) had done with themselves since the reinvention as LCNVL. Unfortunately, they still don't really cater to my taste. Thankfully, this review is not about me or my taste in music. It's about the performances. The artists, the Just Music label. I think Just Music has managed to accomplish what they set out to do. Bring their artists to the fans, while giving us – the media – a pretty decent indication of what they're getting up to. The exposure is what's important, and exposure is exactly what they're getting. LCNVL have managed to side-swipe us all with their new sound. They've gone from Euro-pop inspired bubblegum sing-a-longs to variations between trap, dubstep and hardcore EDM. I have to admit that their style now offers a wider range of music for old and new fans to enjoy. I found myself tapping my foot and nodding my head to a few of their new tracks, as well as cringing and feeling slightly embarrassed that I knew the words to some of the older stuff. Their energy on stage was incredible, and they really made an effort to interact with the crowd, which says a lot about them and their dedication to the craft. I can see the passion they have for what they're doing, and I applaud them. Juliet Harding, Ben Peters, Raiven Hansmann, don't know who they are?? Where the hell have you been?? If I had to tell you I was just 'Takin it easy' under a 'Disco sun' in 'London 1666' you would probably look at me funny, but you'd *hopefully* also realise that I was talking about South Africa's best known electro swing trio “GoodLuck”, who shot to the front -lines of South African radio play, and sent men searching for the dream woman behind “Hop On Hop Off”. To me it seems that Juliet might even be a little ADHD. She can't stand still. Also, I have never seen a white girl work those dance moves and get away with it. She loves the audience, no matter the size. I think she performs like that in her room, in front of the mirror, or even for the cat. It doesn't matter to Miss Harding. She likes to party! The way she projects her voice, and gets in the middle of her fans to hand out shirts, caps, kisses. You can't help but fall in love with them, each and every time you hear or see them. Pascal and Pearce, who took the dance-floor nation by storm with “Disko Bizkit” (a funky house 're-imagining' of the Super Mario theme song), have been an unstoppable two-man force since their 2011 debut album “Passport” sent 4 singles flying into the South African Top 10. [I know that was a terrible pun, but the unintentional ones usually are] An adrenaline-fuelled set intoxicated the crowds. There was a lot of booty-shaking, crotch-grinding mischief taking place, which wasn't all that difficult to digest, I have to say. Sadly, the combination of the bass levels, the lasers and that pesky disco ball caused one of the most bad-ass headaches in the history of time. I couldn't stick around, but I was well impressed with the show they put on. All in all, I can't say that Just Music never disappoint with these sessions. Thanks to World of Yamaha for the awesome venue, sound, lighting and atmosphere. If y'all hurry, you can see Shadowclub, The Anti-Retro Vinyls and Zebra & Giraffe right thurr on Saturday the 6th of April. www.webtickets.co.za for tix. See you there. highfive
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL …….. Review
Who says a Circus needs to have real live animals for it to be successful? Not when it comes to Cirque Du Soleil. We were treated to something spectacular from this phenomenal show. I battle to come up with words to describe this event as I don’t want to sound like I’m not describing it well enough. There are just no words except for WOW WOW WOW!!!! I am however going to try, to the best of my ability to describe just how awesome this show is. The show starts off with 3 clowns who take to the stage and leave us in fits of laughter as they do weird and funny things, it’s a nice way to start the proceedings as they do some funny things and provoke an audience member who we later find out is part of the whole act and isn’t just someone from the audience. After that act I am left wondering what else is in store because I know there is more to this show as I have heard good things about amazing acrobats etc. I was not disappointed, soon enough the stage was taken over by all kinds of exciting things happening. There is just too much going on all at once to talk about one thing. There was people jumping through hoops simultaneously, there was people hanging from just a piece of curtain fabric doing all kinds of tricks in the air. There were even people jumping high on trampolines and then running up a wall at least 10 meters high. It’s crazy and I can just imagine how much time and training it takes to do these tricks and to be this fit. One thing that comes to mind watching this show, it’s almost like the laws of gravity does not apply to these people and they are defo not afraid of heights. To be lifted into the air like that with nothing holding onto you accept your good grip on a piece of fabric. That is amazing!!! I can honestly say all the acts were amazing, it’s not just the tricks they all do but it is also the story behind each act and the attention to detail of each outfit they wore etc... The whole show is just beautifully put together. If you ever get the chance to see Cirque Du Soleil, do yourself a favor and get your tickets early because this is a show not to be missed and is a treat for the whole family.

How did you get into photography? Well,im going to say IT ALL STARTED WITH A SMALL COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERA‌a few trips to the Kruger Park And THAT Bug bit me!!!Then you get into the city and a whole new world opens up right infront of you.Thats when I realised ill never leave my camera again!
What camera are you currently using? Im currently using a Canon 600d and believe it or not my 55mm lens that I got with it.Then theres my 70 – 300mm lens just for some backup!
What do you like about Photography? What I like about photography is the fact that no one else will ever have exactly the same photo that you have taken. You capture that moment of history that will never be repeated and you can save it for a long long time.
What style of Photography do you like? Band photography. Its just the whole vibe that gets you going. The music, action packed live peerfomances and that adrenalin rush I get just when that band gets on stage.
Where do you see you’re self in five years, in terms of your photography? Would love to be on the front cover of Pix magazine and Rolling Stone Magazine.Definitly have my own studio and be a name to be remembered.
Who is your favorite photographer and why? There are so many!but the ones that do stand out are Sean Brand and Louise Pieterse.their work are just amazing.they know how to capture THAT moment!
Describe a day in the life of a photographer. Its getting up before the sun even shows its face, getting all nervous before the big moment, getting that perfect shots and finally getting home just to pick out the best few photos out of a couple of hundred or maybe thousands of photos.
