During long experience of architecture educa on and prac ce, I found it’s interes ng to draw a con nuous contrast between disciplinary historical knowledge and contemporary technical knowledge in architecture. The right balance between these two areas is what allows architecture advanced and evolved. And the knowledge from past and present also keep evolving and nego a ng with contemporary issues. Thinking of past, present and future brings inspira on and energy for me. Professional prac ce for me is a balanced spot to merge knowledge from educa on and contemporary technical knowledge.

URBAN INCUBATOR PHILADELPHIA MICRO HOUSING PROJECT CORE. PENNDESIGN. FALL 2014 BRAIN PHILLIPS STUDIO This house project is a reac on to the transi on of philadelphia from old manufacturing industrial city to new ins tu onal service city, in the analysis of economy of Philadelphia, it shows that the perentage of ins tu on in GDP incresed 10 percent from 11% to 21% in past 10 years. And in the same me industrial manufacturing decreased 5%. In this case, philadelphia will occupied by more and more ins tu ons in the future, so more and more people will come to join this market. The requeirement of new house is appearing. But the old house type fullfill the needs of future? We know that old indus al city used to separate users and programs, people work, live and relax in the differnt place. But i think new ins tu onal city should to hybridize the programs together. People live, work and relax in the same place, and this hybridizaon s mulates connec on and interac on between ci zens in the same me. This housing proposal combines working spaces and other complemental progams like gym, library, lecture hall and mu ple func on hall. The concept of this building is that you can working like nerd and sleeping like baby in the same me. Work and live is a new possibility typology of future insi tu on . This innova on combina on will creates more dynamic rela onship beyond expecta on a er people really par cipate in it. There is a lot of sharable space and program ask for collabra on and coopera on. This system can be a possible self-support system that workshops create benefit to maintain living cost.

PERFORMING FOREST PHILADELPHIA PERFORMANCE PAVILION CORE. PENNDESIGN. FALL 2013 SOFIA KRIMIZI STUDIO This project tries to establish two systems, and makes two systems affect each other. Grid system used as a primary control, structure system. Void system works like performance space, and shape of void space is control by grids system, and in the same me, the void affects the density of exis ng grids. The site is on the roof of post office, the idea is occupying the en le building by grids system, and performance space working like void inside grids. Grids system becoming model of inner performance space and inner space redefined the density of outside grids. Between grids and curvature space, there is semi-space defined by mesh curves. Those three elements create adequate space rela onship.

There are several types of components dierent from length, distance of joints, and rota on. Two single component forms one new combined componts. S SPRING PRING 2014 ANNETTE FIERRO STU STUDIO UDIO My work stars with a narraa ve of utopian city, this city is a self-sufficient ecological ecological city, which obtains energy from sunshine sunsh hine and wind. This ecological city is covered with with ver cal farming infrastructure, which interacts with the architecture architecture b byy extending the ground up against the buildings. The farming will produces fruits and foo food od for ci zens. Rather than only two-dimensional sprawl, this city compacts structure and density deensity in three dimensions. All spaces and d programs are linked lo oop transi ng together with an endless loop between interior and exterior, which allows h other. overlapping between each My inten on is to dig deeply deep ply into the concept of con nuity and Yin Yang space. Using grids and metrics to control and explore the change of scalees, degrees of the density, different scales, rota on, the network can both horizontally and ver cally. The space and circula on between infrastructure and buildingg is also a con nuous loop moving between interior and exterior.

COMPLEX CITY MIX-USE CITY INTERNSHIP. FALL 2013 DESIGN TEAM:FANG LI, LUYAO CHEN, YU CAO, FENG LI, GANG WANG, YANGHAI LIU, FANG CAI This project is a mix use project combines office towers, residence towers, and shoping center. It’s also a connec on to bus sta on, The exis ng bus sta on and new development is connected by big umbralla structure, wchich create a big covered public plaza. There is a big roof garden in between residence towers, which creates a connected public space connected to each other.
