skin tight fuchsia jeans and that Kelly green Turbine bag! It’s also that time of year when we typically take inventory of our lives. What have we accomplished? When did we fail? What is next?
LLaaddiieess aanndd G Geennttss!! Spring is here! Sort of…. It’s that time of year when we have no choice but to watch too many people trying to pull off shorts way too early… swans are attacking us as we walk through parks… super fit people are running furiously and the not so fit are struggling for air behind them (chances are if you see a brunette crawling up the sidewalk heaving, it’s me). However, if it’s a good year, we might not be seeing much more of the cold fluffy white stuff we so generously refer to as snow. But either way, the birds are chirping, and bright colored garments are once again adorning our storefront mannequins. And let’s face it; everyone wants a pair of those
Maybe you’re reconstructing your resume, planning a wedding, or starting that strict diet (for good this time)… Regardless, it’s a time for new beginnings, and getting excited about happier weather. Maybe even a little… twitterpated. So, forget what didn’t happen yesterday, and concentrate on what can happen tomorrow.

INTERVIEWS
I f you’ve visited any businesses in the Metro area, you’ve most likely taken in Jake’s work. Donning the windows of local shops and Aliant boxes; Jake Seibert’s paint brush is responsible for turning the bleak and boring into works of art. When did you first learn you had a talent for painting? I painted my first oil painting in Grade 11, and fell in love with the medium. My French teacher tried to buy it off of me, but I liked it too much and convinced her to buy my next piece instead.
decipher. I've heard from a few people about how much they like that piece. How has Nova Scotia supported your business? Positive appreciation for hand made goods has really helped me get my product out there. Small business owners also identify with someone who is hustling for work. Are there any structures you've seen that you've thought "hey, I'd like to paint that!"? The side of Celtic Corner pub in Dartmouth, where there used to be a plywood mural that got damaged in a storm and was taken down. I'd love to team up and do a huge Guinness ad or something. If anyone can help broker that, hit me up!
What is your favourite piece? With my commercial work, every time I think I have a favorite, I'll do another job that I'll feel is even more accomplished, so while my skills are still ramping up, it would be impossible to say. I did score a bit of a hit with a telephone box at Kempt Rd and Young that is themed around the Halifax explosion, and has the historic telegraph message wrapped around it for people to

There are another ten businesses or so that have shot me down that I'm determined to get my work on some day (for their own good). So where do you go from here? Keep painting, building my customer base and get to the tipping point where I go full time with this. Aspirations? I want to get as good at sign painting as Golden West Sign Arts in Berkley, California, and Sign Savant in Seattle. I want to do projects as big as Colossal media in NYC. Would you leave Nova Scotia if it meant more success? I would certainly travel for the right job, but I love where I live, and my kids are starting school here in Dartmouth, so I have no intention of pulling up stakes any time soon.[]

SPOTLIGHT
U
krainian beauty, Tamara Chemij, is
stacking her portfolio and stopping traffic with her enchanting look. Landing gigs on runways, photo advertisements, and video shorts – this lucky lady took a risk by moving to Nova Scotia, which so far, has paid off. “I am very proud of being able to work as a model and actor in Atlantic Canada and being able to meet, network and interact with so many amazing and very talented people in the entertainment industry and beyond in Halifax. I am very thankful for the opportunities that fell upon my shoulders and it wouldn’t happen if it was not for my husband, Jason Chemij who is always by my side waiting for hours while I am on sets… and encouraging me to keep on going and trying. He has also joined City Models roster and has done a number of acting and modelling jobs. I am also very thankful for all the people in the industry that were (and are) very supportive of me and a huge credit goes to them. Without all the talented local designers, photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists and everyone who stands behind the complete picture - I wouldn't be able to do what I m doing today. Special thanks to Angela Campagnoni (owner of City Models and an amazing agent), John Rosborough (co-founder of RPM Productions), Lisa Heyden, Veronica MacIsaac, Kim Munson, and of course Jason Chemij and my family that is both here in Canada and Ukraine.”[]
“The most embarrassing thing I can think of up to date was one of the runway shows that I did. Right on the final walk where all the models come out my foot slipped out of the shoe and I couldn't get the foot back in... All the models started piling up behind me… But in moments like that it is important to embrace the failure and move on - so I took my other shoe off and continued. I definitely got a few “ohhs” from the audience…”
