Today begins the final season of excavation in The Valley of the Kings.

Six full seasons we have excavated here, and season after season have drawn a blank.

Lord Carnarvon is starting to lose faith. The money he invested in these digs has turned up no more than a few minor discoveries.

“Why the devil are you still there?”

Today | received a telegram from him.

At the level of the twelfth step, there was disclosed the upper part of a sealed doorway.

The decipherable seals include that of the royal necropolis.

| make a small peephole under the wooden lintel, just large enough to insert an electric torch,

and discover that the passage beyond is filled from floor to ceiling with rubble.

They are all intact, indicating that the door has never beenTheopened. tomb has not been entered.

Anything, literally anything, might lie beyond that passage.

|t is late, however, and darkness is already upon us.

| would have liked to spend the night in The Valley but it is forbidden. Too dangerous.
