MR. ARJUN AMIN Managing Director

Urbanaac Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 3 | Special Edition January 2021 INDIA

10

In its core, Urbanaac envisions to see India evolve as an ‘InfraDriven Superpower’ by offering revolutionary changes in the respective industry. Its adamant commitment towards delivering best-in-class precast solutions via innovation, automation and value engineering is allowing it to ensure a competitive edge over its peers.

As the year 2021 is dawning with new hopes for the business world, Business Connect presents an edition that will be a stimulus to the budding entrepreneurs in the New Year. Here, our magazine has come up with an enthralling success story that will kindle the flames of entrepreneurship within you. Our team has caught up with the MD of Urbanaac Infrastructures, Arjun Amin, to be acquainted with the significant offerings that he has introduced to the infrastructure sector.

THE COMPANY AT A GLANCE Urbanaac is one of Gujarat’s Leading Turnkey Precast Solution Providers that spans over an area of 1.2 million sq. ft. manufacturing facility, located 40 Km away from the city of Ahmedabad. The company renders absolute solutions in Detailed Designing, Production, Transportation and Erection of RCC precast elements for Infra and Construction Industry, right from the conception to the completion.

Urbanaac conveys the success story of Mr. Arjun who begin this entrepreneurial venture with the motivation instigated in him by his father. Talking about his father, Arjun reveals that he was an avid believer of Krishna’s Philosophy and rigidly reckoned on the concept of ‘Karma’.

Urbanaac, with its world-class manufacturing facility, has made a mark in the industry with its turnkey infrastructural solutions that ensure wonders with prompt access and its distribution of premium infrastructure components at a breathtaking pace.

Leading Urbanaac at the forefront as the Managing Director, Arjun is making his name in the game. He shares that his father was a perfect exemplar of a hard-working and ambitious individual. But unfortunately, Arjun happened to lose his dad at a very young age. Having to believe that his father is watching over him all the times, has been his pedestal of strength and motivation in the journey.

COMMENDABLE FORESIGHTS TO DEAL WITH CHALLENGES The MD expresses that embracing the challenges wholeheartedly can help one emerge out as a roaring success. Moreover, he states that unforeseen challenges are an inevitable part of every journey we choose. To him, what is crucial is to stay unnerved and forge ahead without deviating from the right path. Unforeseen challenges bring uncertainty to life, trying to deviate one from one’s core focus. But, Arjun believes one must avoid making impulsive decisions at such uncertain times to be a success in any aspect of life.

Regarding the infrastructure and construction industry, Mr.Arjun shares that this industry contributes to around 20% of India’s GDP. The sector is majorly responsible for propelling India’s overall development and receives intense focus from the Government for facilitating the policies, that would ensure timebound creation of a world-class infrastructure in the country. He further adds that to turn India’s vision to become the largest economy into a living reality, the smarter infrastructure development process has become the necessity of the moment. But still, a majority of construction processes relies upon conventional methodologies.

WORKING TOGETHER ON A UNITED FRONT Mr.Arjun believes that healthy interaction between the team members and continuous nurturing of the team has been of utmost importance to the organization.

The prolonged timelines of infrastructural projects cause enormous financial loss to the nation. Mr.Arjun asserts that keeping the Indian market and its present scenario into consideration, Precast seems to be the most amicable solution to shorten the timelines and improve the quality of these processes.

Their fundamental framework stands steadfast on the foundation of establishing new benchmarks with quality products and create infrastructure marvels with the help of a combination of innovation and technology. The MD elucidates, ``We have incorporated the best international practices of standardization to provide the best-in-class product to the client on time, to raise the bars of service standards and pave the way for the industry to follow our footsteps. We reckon on the notion that establishing an appropriate system is the key towards

Being substantive in the industry, Urbanaac strives to emerge out as a torch bearer to provide absolute Precast Solutions for the first time in Gujarat and catalyzing the transformation of unorganized Infra and Construction Industry in the best possible manner. 11

delivering a quality product & services to our clients and for this, we ensured ISO standards right from our inception and followed them rigorously.``

Furthermore, he also has been reading a lot about Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, one of the most influential personalities the world ever witnessed. He finds Dr Kalam’s journey, from plinth to paramount, truly exhilarating to mankind.

SUCCESS MANTRA Resilience, perseverance and discipline are the key aspects of living a quality life, asserts Mr. Arjun. He firmly believes that life should be perceived with a crystal clear vision. To be successful, one must make decisions that are not influenced by anyone.

The MD shares that breaking the monotonous pattern of the daily routine is essential to relax the mind and enhance one’s efficiency. To him, travelling is the best way to do this. He reveals, “Whenever I get an opportunity, I would pack my bag and go to explore an unseen destination. Travelling to explore different places fills me with great excitement. It helps a lot to expose oneself to newer dimensions and better thoughts and also a perfect way to stay updated with the latest happenings across the world.”

Furthermore, he states that leadership is all about bravely facing the failures and simultaneously working hard towards attaining the best results in one’s favour. “Excellent leadership can be predicted by looking at the team’s dedication and determination. Urbanaac is blessed with an efficient and hardworking team that relentlessly endeavor to take the company to greater heights.”

ABOUT THE MILESTONES Since its establishment, Urbanaac has envisioned the implementation of Precast in Gujarat and set up a relevant infrastructure in this regard. It is the first and foremost milestone, it takes pride in achieving as a startup. At present, the company’s production capacity is of 4.5 Million sq. ft, with an unprecedented capacity to expand by up to 5 times that ensures a promising start.

DYNAMISM INSPIRED FROM THE DYNAMOS The COVID-19 scenario has been more about reading and introspecting to him. As a committed adherent of Krishna, he always seeks guidance from his teachings. The lessons learned from Krishna’s life have played a significant role in shaping what he is today. Additionally, Arjun is extremely inspired by the career trajectory of Mr. Ratan Tata who is considered a role model for millions of entrepreneurs across the globe. “Mr. Tata is a competent, courteous and optimist individual who dedicated his skills, knowledge and efforts towards nation-building while building his empire that is well-reckoned for its business values across the world.,” continues the MD. www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 3 | Special Edition January 2021 INDIA

Mr. Arjun states, “Having been able to contribute towards some engineering marvels and one- of- its- kind structures, grant us with immense satisfaction. We are majorly contributing to the development of infrastructure at – Motera Stadium – ‘World’s Largest Cricket Stadium’, that is entirely precast-based and considered the first-rated infrastructure globally. Apart from 12

that, we are also working for Gujarat’s most prestigious University – ‘Ahmedabad University’ and also associated with one of Mumbai’s most luxurious hotels, situated at the T2- Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. These are some of the major projects that we have a hand in so far and have high hopes to emerge out as flag bearer in this industry.” GLIMPSES OF THE FUTURE ENDEAVORS “India is a land of burgeoning opportunities for the opportunists. Taking major steps to emerge out as the World’s Largest Economy, India will soon become a self-reliant country. Now, India is being looked at as a strategically investing nation by the rest of the world. Also, the corporate world has been seeking these possibilities long since and converting these possibilities into opportunities is now in our hands only.,” opines Mr. Arjun. The team is inclined towards expanding its production facility from 4.5 million sq. ft. to over 22 million sq. ft. within the existing facility in Gujarat in the upcoming five years. Post-2025, Urbanaac will expandits facility to 4-5 different locations, ensuring PAN India presence. A TOKEN OF ADVICE TO BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS The Managing Director advises youth to chase their passion and incessantly strive to succeed accordingly. He firmly believes that there is no substitute for hard work and people should always strive for perfection. “It is perhaps a beginning of a new era, post the pandemic, where it is going to be all about re-learning, re-thinking and re-innovating and how quick we transform ourselves. We have to be optimists to fill our surroundings with positive energy. Failures are major steps towards progress. Any mistake will teach you a lesson that will bring you closer to your success. Moreover, building a committed team is a key contributor to a company’s success. And, the coordination of your staff with your mission is a crucial aspect of influential leadership. So, maintain harmony among all these aspects and be a pioneer in the domain.,” conveys Mr. Arjun.

Hollow Core Slabs

AN INSPIRING ANALOGY FROM THE MD’s DESK

“There are moments when you come across different challenges. Stay strong and focused, and you will be able to recognize these difficulties with a better perspective when you have gained experience, abilities, and trust to help you transform these barriers into stepping stones for success. Let’s make it clear using an analogy. If a trekker constantly keeps fretting about the rough footslog, he will be devoid of the enthralling experience from the scenic elegance of his surroundings. As they say- It is about the journey; not the destination, businesses operate on the same philosophy. One must learn to relish the journey while chasing one’s goals to reach the pinnacle and make a mark in the world.

Success Story

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Inspirational Life Story

When we look around, we see success stories of many people which motivates us to work hard despite the challenges and turbulences in the journey towards success. One such inspirational tale lies in the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Born on 30th July 1947 in Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger started his career from scratch with a not-so-adorable childhood. Nothing could stop the dedicated person in Arnold, not even his family tragedies. The best action hero of all time has faced challenges in nearly every step of his life, but he believed in himself and climbed the ladder of success.

• BUILDING YEARS With a phenomenal career, Arnold Schwarzenegger is acclaimed to be the most popular personality alive. Alongside being the best action movie star, Arnold is undoubtedly the most recognized and famous bodybuilder. In his entire childhood, Arnold faced a conflicting relationship with his father under the suspicion of Arnold not being the biological son of Gustav Schwarzenegger, and due to this, he was neglected over his elder brother. Inspired by his father, Arnold pushed himself towards sports from a young age and deep-dived into weight lifting and bodybuilding, and it soon turned into his passion. For the same, Arnold’s mother remained sceptic and thought his son was ill when she saw the pictures of male body builders in his room, for which she even called the doctors. www.businessconnectindia.in | Vol. 3 | Special Edition January 2021 INDIA

“ What we face may look

insurmountable, but what I learned is that we are always stronger than we know.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

At age 18, Arnold served his compulsory Austrian Army’s oneyear service as a tank driver where he was put in a military prison under the charges of insubordination for participating in the Junior Mr. Europe competition. Interestingly, Arnold Schwarzenegger purchased the tank he drove after he became successful.

• PERSONAL LIFE In 1986, Arnold married Maria Shriver of the Kennedy family and lived in Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles in California. Both Arnold and Maria gave birth to four children named Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher, and in 2011 the couple shockingly opted for separation. Years later, it was discovered that Arnold had another child out of wed lock with the family maid who was born days after Christopher’s birth. Regretting the incident, Arnold said “As inspirational as I am for my accomplishments, my mistakes should also serve as a warning” because this led to family pain and splitting up of the whole family.

Genuinely speaking, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s age was never a barrier for him to excel in his career. However, he has achieved remarkable milestones at a very young age. Here, one of them is the Mr. Universe competition which he won at his second attempt in 1967 just at the age of 20, making him the youngest person ever to win the competition. After that, he won the same competition thrice.

Today, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s bodybuilding books, his life struggles, and achievements are a great source of motivation and inspiration for everyone.

Hereafter, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to Munich in Germany and attended a business school. There he spelt one of his coaches “I’m going to become the greatest actor”, and the amount of confidence Arnold carried can be seen in the sentence mentioned above. Arnold considered America to be the land of opportunity, and he got the ticket to move to the USA with his Mr. Universe trophy. As soon as he moved to the city of prospects, he left his Austrian accent. • TRAGEDY In 1971, Arnold’s brother, Meinhard, died in a traffic accident, and a year and a half later, Arnold Schwarzenegger lost his father too. Despite possessing a good relationship with brother Meinhard, he did not attend his funeral with the fear of having to face his father with whom he didn’t carry a good relation. • POPULARITY THROUGH MOVIES The evergreen actor’s desire to embark upon the journey of acting was realized after he was cast in Hercules in New Yorkin 1969. He got increasing fame with the 1977 movie name Pumping Iron. Things came to his favour since his 1982 movie role in Conan the Barbarian, after which he was up for the lead position in the sequel Conan the Destroyer. In the same year, Arnold Schwarzenegger played his most famous role of The Terminator. This movie solidified his image as an action hero alongside the popular actor Sylvester Stallone. 17

PEARL GROUP

Perfection in Diversity Indranil Roy | Business Connect

W SHARIQ ASHRAF Director

ith an initial focus on cargo handling for import/export cargo, Mr Jamshaid Ashraf laid the foundation of the Pearl Group in the year 1991. And with time, the company diversified itself into multiple verticals; and the business expanded geographically as well. Initially, Pearl Group started operating from Mumbai that now has expanded to Pune, Mundra, Bangalore, the UAE, Malaysia, and Singapore, and also has agencies in 14 other countries. With time, the verticals have been stretched further to NVOCC/Freight Forwarding, complete Tech-Enabled Security Solutions, Warehouse Management, Security, Staffing Solutions, and Facility Management Services. From the time of inception, the company strongly focused on providing the best to its clients which certainly sets it apart from most of its competitors. A BOSS SAYS “GO”, A LEADER SAYS “LET’S GO” Following in their father’s footsteps, Shariq Ashraf and Shayan Ashraf are leading the organization as Directors. When asked Shariq, he stated that good leadership isn’t about directing people to follow one’s instructions but it is about values and ethics that you imbibe in your team for them to follow. To him, leadership is about giving freedom and responsibilities to the employees to help them grow. He gives the credit to his global upbringing which helped him learn from some of the best across industries. He studied at the University of Oxford and later joined the BCG (The Boston Consulting Group) in Australia that gave him an enormous opportunity to work closely with and to learn from some of the sharpest people across the globe. He believes it is through the ethic of hard work, of focusing on important goals and ignoring distractions, of being fair to others, of respecting and earning the trust of your employees and clients that form the base for success as a leader. WORK-LIFE BALANCE DURING THE CRISIS The outbreak of Covid-19 has turned the lives upside down for many but strong are those

18

who found opportunities in times of crisis like these. Pearl Group did the same. With the exodus of employees back to their respective states, the team went on aggressive recruitment locally and provided training sessions to local recruits to expedite the process. As a result, now the Pearl Group has a much stronger supply of workers than they did before COVID, and are functionally in a better place than pre-COVID times. ALIGNING THE VISION AND THE MISSION At the Pearl Group, it is of utmost priority to see that all the employees are in sync with the vision that drives the company and is aligned with it. Operationally, translating this vision and mission into executable actions, and then building those actions and deliverables as part of the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of the team members is what helps drive the high-level vision into real, tactical, executable strategies at the ground level. R&D- A SUCCESS STORY OF ANY COMPANY Without an eye for detail for R&D, it is strenuous to sustain an edge in business. The company continues to invest in Research and Development throughout all the verticals for finding and testing the best materials and suppliers to guarantee secure transit over belligerent waters or creating security system solutions that are bespoke to cater to the specific requirements of the clients. The company has strived hard and invested in abundance to stay parallel to the technical advancements. They built and implemented an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Software that has been customized for their cargo handling business. Likewise, for the NVOCC/Freight Forwarding business, they have a customized ERP in place for the clients to trace the containers with their cargo and get real time inventory availability across the globe. For security services, they set up cutting edge technology, from ANPRS (Automatic Number Plate Recognition Systems) for vehicular access control, to vehicle tracking GPS systems, FRS (Facial Recognition Systems) for access control as well as for alerts, RFID based patrolling systems, and many more such technologies. WORK CULTURE AND TEAM MANAGEMENT Sound work environment culture adjusts representative practices and company policies with the general objectives of the organization, while likewise considering the prosperity of people. The management at the organization is firm about a few attributes that their employees must follow; proactivity, responsibility vs accountability, and honesty. Shariq says he wants his employees to take ownership of their roles and not just be accountable but also be responsible for what they do. He believes in creating an environment that sets his employees free to deliver the KPIs. At the same point, the Director expects complete honesty from the employees wherein they share their failures, in asking for help when required, so larger teams can collaborate to help increase effectiveness and efficiency. Mr. Ashraf believes it is imperative to develop supportive surroundings and that every failure should be considered as an opportunity to learn something.

Directors, Pearl Group CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY- HIGHEST UTILIZATION OF THE FORCE OF LIFE “Every generation needs a reformer, if you don’t have one, be one.” For Shariq, it is principal for any organization to give back to society. A strong CSR program is an open door for organizations to exhibit their great corporate citizenship and shield the organization from outsized danger by taking a gander at the entire social and ecological circle that encompasses the organization. Pearl Group has engaged itself with multiple CSR activities. The group is providing computers for education to economically weaker sections by liaising with an NGO in Mumbai and is also engaged in developing vocational skills training for women in Bihar through a program called “Hunar”, that enables them to earn their livelihood and attain independence. Shayan spearheads the group’s efforts in working with NGOs that prevent cruelty towards animals, and help abandoned animals find loving and caring homes. FAR-SEEING PLANS A business strategy can be utilized as an instrument to distinguish where you are at the moment and in which direction you wish your business to develop. A strategy will likewise guarantee that you meet certain key targets and oversee business needs. In the last few years, Pearl Group has diversified into various other verticals and looks forward to achieving deeper market penetration in those sectors. Shariq assumes that in the next 5 years, the organization will evolve into consolidation and will strengthen its presence in the market. WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE READERS

“Whatever you do, don’t chase the money – chase your passions, the money will follow. Be keen and eager to explore various opportunities early in life, you never know what opportunities life will throw your way. And whatever life does throw your way, take it positively, as an opportunity. We cannot control or choose every event that happens to us, but we can control and choose our reactions to them. As they say, it’s the sails and not the gales that decide the direction of the ship. And lastly, never be afraid of making mistakes – if you try, you might fail, but if you don’t try, you will definitely fail!” 19

the same clients have successfully ensured their name in the game. To stand by its well-earn reputation, the team always pay intense heed on customer feedbacks and testimonials. Moreover, their eco-friendly pest control services have allowed them to sustain their reputation in the market. A LEADER IMPARTING EXCEPTIONAL WISDOM Leadership has a lot more aspects than just giving orders. Managing the employees is one of those parameters and possessing a positive attitude is the most critical skill to be a peer leader. As it is said- Misery loves company and so does positivity. “Your peers will follow your footsteps keeping in sync with your attitude and approach tasks.”, says the Founder.

AN ENTHRALLING WORK CULTURE Naveen reckons on the fact that the leadership, strategic organizational directions and management enormously influences the work culture of an organisation. At Service Integration Squad, the management ensures an optimistic work culture that improves teamwork, elevates the morale, enhances productivity and efficiency to retain the workforce. The company constantly endeavours job satisfaction, collaboration and work performance in favour of its employees while ensuring a jubilant and stress-free ecosystem. Moreover, the Founder believes that employee motivation is the key to overall success. Multiple effective techniques help a business leader to keep his workforce engaged and inspired to have a long-lasting effect on their productivity. For this, a leader must know to encourage, praise and recognize every single achievement of his employees. Apart from this, ensuring an inclusive approach and incentivizing the employees will also allow more employee- engagement in favour of an organisation.

Naveen believes that good decision making is quite a daunting task for any leader under unfavourable conditions. He further adds that at times when there is a crisis of uncertainty arriving at overwhelming speed with a huge magnitude, organisations become numb to make big-bet decisions. He suggests that in such circumstances, a leader must take a moment to step back, take stock, anticipate and prioritize accordingly. “Ensuring tiny but critical choices while involving the whole team in any decision making will do wonders for sure.”, conveys Naveen.

APPROACHING CSR WITH DISTINCT INSIGHTS Naveen has unique insights when it comes to defining corporate social responsibility. He aspires to positively impact his customers, people, suppliers and communities across his businesses that are beyond legal and regulatory obligations. There are a few commitments to CSR offered from his end – Long-term investment to bring out the best in their people, investments on their communities, engaging with endcustomers, managing the environmental impacts, maintaining effective health and safety management systems, etc.

Furthermore, Naveen always looks up to those who are always clear in their convictions, respectful to others, instigates positive change, make a difference, and care about something greater than themselves. To him, learning from other industry leaders is quite valuable. And there are a few books that have been a source of valuable insights to him- How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie, The 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey, and The Obstacle is the way by Ryan Holiday.

FUTURE OUTLOOKS In the upcoming years, the Naveen’s brainchild foresees a bright and blazing future. To this respect, he unveils, “In the next five years, the company will spin off at least six successful subsidiaries, that will all be run by someone other than myself. My core team members will love their new jobs in the family or will be at the point where things are good enough for them to consider early retirement.”

PAYING ENOUGH HEED TO R&D Naveen states that R&D plays a significant role to improve the products and develop some innovative ones too. He believes that constant feedbacks from consumers and workers about their experience with the product allows improvement. In this regard, his team ensures that such feedbacks are well-utilized to develop effective solutions. The expertise of his workforce ensures a cutting edge to their products effortlessly. At present, there is no separate body performing the R&D process individually, but they will establish one shortly.

MESSAGE FOR THE BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS

“Instead of freaking out about challenges, embrace them. Let them guide you. Challenges drive innovation and force focus. Rather than trying to remove those challenges, use those to your advantage. I would like to share a famous quote for upcoming entrepreneurs “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”

SYNERGY WITH TECHNOLOGY Apart from infusing innovation in the offered solutions, another aspect that helps a company scale the heights of success is technology. Naveen elucidates that most exciting trend in the pest management industry is all about embracing the latest technological advancements. There Electronic Monitoring (EM) is an advancing technology that allows pest control professionals to remotely monitor a variety of pests in and around the premises. The team adeptly noted that the smart devices ensure real-time pest activity data while ensuring a more robust picture of pest activity within a processing facility.

~Naveen Kumar Rana- The Founder

Moreover, the utilization of remote sensing devices to detect the presence of rodents has been proved quite effective to eradicate such pests. Naveen says that such technologies have allowed them to perform outstandingly while serving the clients. In future, they will rely more and more on such technological advancements to stay ahead of the curve.

CURRENT AFFAIRS After the Dramatic Fall, Jack Ma’s Ant Group Might Have a Blurred Future Over the last year, the growth of consumer finance companies has been encouraged by the government as well as bank’s existing unit that deals Ping An Insurance (Group) Co. of China, it has received approval for a new consumer finance company. The restrictions on these lenders havebeen loosened by the banking regulators and have expanded funding channels by letting them raise different types of capital which, includes tier-2 capital compliant bonds.

fter a dramatic fall from grace, the future of Ant Group remains problematic. It seems like, regulators have had enough of destroying it and a transition to a financial holding company is being considered, which is willing to be regulated like a bank. The bank-like companies do not command tech-like valuations. Unless, it is one of the booming consumer finance markets of China, expecting to hit 3 trillion of Yuan ($464 billion) in volumes over the next four years. That is where the reach of Ant is and that is where the demand is. More importantly, keeping with the so-called dual circulation strategy, state planners are all set to generate domestic demand and supply. Credit will have to flow to households effectively for that to operate. It is known by Beijing as well. The growing of disposable income has driven consumption growth for the better portion of the last decade but have been reducing. Which means that the authorities are required for another way to keep its economy humming along. In the year 2019, the number of consumer finance customer augmented to almost 130 million and increased to over 50 per cent from the year before. The state is also aware that it is good for the economy. There is an increasing correlation that is shown by the data between the growth of consumer loans and retail sales in the country. The Ant Group could have potentially played a larger role than it is already been doing, with more recapitalization.

Ant was hitched to the trend itself. In August last year, Nanyang Commercial Bank Ltd., battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. and others took a 50 percent stake in a new consumer finance company set up. It was sanctioned the following month by the banking regulator. Ant was able to convince the authorities that it would support and not impede their agenda to get back in the good deeds of the government. For instance, the Zhima credit scoring system of the company could dilute concerns about banks, taking on risky loans and dovetail with the government’s objective of protecting household wallets in the larger scheme. Trying to transform back into a much more distinctly established player in financial services and away from the fuzzy giant fintech operations will not be too challenging for Ant. Capital dedication is the hard part. However, as a consumer finance firm, Ant was able to collect capital from its domestic shareholders through deposits. Borrowing from banks or issuing financial bonds will be permitted as well. Many licensed consumer finance companies in China have commercial banks as backers. This is not likely to bring Ant back to its super-unicorn scores. Nevertheless, alongside Ant’s more developed payments company, a stronger business model that is less dependent on low acquisition costs and tack-on companies could actually survive.

In the year 2021, in India, the value of the test prep market in the edtech segment is likely to be worth $515 million, up from $43 million in the year 2016 at a compound annual growth rate of 64 per cent.

Unacademy acquired serial entrepreneur and billionaire BhavinTurakhia’sCodeChefin June for programmers to learn competitive programming. Following month, it also acquired an online platform, PrepLadder for preparation of medical entrance exam for $50 million. Additionally, in September it bought Coursavy, which is a UPSC CSE preparation platform. 41
