It was my first leap of self-confidence that I resigned from my first job as a graduate tax accountant. I opted to become a diamond wholesaler at that time and that was done in partnership with an Indian firm planning to start their business in Australia.

Following Byju’s $1 Billion Acquisition, Aakash Evolves Into A Hybrid Edtech Enterprise “In the past, students would travel to places like Delhi, Kota, and Hyderabad.” AESL managing director Aakash Chaudhry remarked, “Our desire and aggression to penetrate down to Tier-3 and Tier-4 markets with physical centers has increased.” “We’re going to add over 100 centers, and more than half of them will be in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities. We’ll be bringing a lot of technology with us as well.” Chaudhry, a Harvard Business School graduate, believes that physical classroom teaching will continue to work as it has in the past. Aakash Educational Services (AESL) is turning itself into a hybrid edtech enterprise and is aggressively expanding across the country after being acquired by Byju’s for $1 billion earlier this year. In the next five months, AESL will open 106 additional locations across the country. There will be a mix of extension and standalone centers in these locations. J C Chaudhry started AESL as a small private coaching institute in Ganesh Nagar, West Delhi, in 1988. Aakash has grown from 12 learners in 1988 to 215 centers with over 250,000 students. By the end of this year, the goal is to have around 5 lakh students. “Hybrid learning is an approach for the future, and test preparation is a significant part of India’s educational landscape. The future solution will be a mix of (physical) and (digital) classrooms,” according to Abhishek Maheshwari, AESL’s chief executive officer (CEO). “We had all of the fundamentals in place, and now it was just a matter of speeding up the process. It’s accelerating even more now that Byju has arrived.” Students studying for medical and engineering entrance examinations, school and board exams, KVPY, NTSE, Olympiads, and other foundation-level exams might benefit from AESL’s test preparation services. According to sources, the institute has an annual turnover of around ₹1,200 crores.With a staff of over 5000 individuals, AESL expects to hire over 2000 new employees this year. This is part of its offline or physical center expansion strategy, as well as a response to the increased traffic at its existing locations. It’s looking for people in a variety of fields, including academics, technology, sales, marketing, operations, and other support activities. “As an organization, we’re evolving in three ways: getting closer to our consumers, using technology and physical facilities, and attracting talent. As a result, wherever classes are available, people want a decent mix of both. We followed all of the Covid protocols,” Maheshwari stated. “We are also allowing you to come to the classroom two days a week and study from home two days a week.”
By developing facilities in Tier 3 and 4 cities, AESL is expanding its reach and foraying into Bharat. This allows it to become closer to its consumers, allowing students to learn without having to go to larger cities.
