an unpredictable journey

Academic Project (Dhaka,Bangladesh)

Software used: AutoCAD, SketchUp,Vray & Photoshop

The height of the amphitheater and the tilla is same, that is, the top of the massing is sloped gradually with the site. this enables the building to maintain its unpredictable character from outside as users cannot visibly determine the height or depth of the building from outside. To make the design more contextual and close to rural surrounding people, attention was given that they can use the design according to there flexibility of time and need. The roof of the building can be accessed from outside even after the closing of the complex. By this people can use the amphitheater at evening for purposes like ”jatra natok, gaaner aashor, rural meeting” etc. the library located at the top floor can also be accessed at anytime.

Transient Housing,

design of a youth hostel

Academic Project (Dhaka,Bangladesh)

Chaos in the Order is the concept of the project.”Chaos’ is representing the Youth & ‘Order’ is indicating the control that has been designed by the project. The inhabitants are mainly students & working bachelors. Some for study & some for job, both are here to be prepared for their future. According to this consideration it has been tried hard to provide a homely environment to the young inhabitants. There are both male & female sections in the hostel. Due to our social context the control between the sections has been provided appropiately. At the end of the project it would be a safe secure home away from home.

The residencial zone is placed on the upper portion of the building, which is more interconnected with the open breakout spaces. The adopted green is also placed in that area for the

COMMERCIAL ZONE

The dedicated floors are a buffer zone for the building from the outside crowded commercial zone.To provide a liveable condition to the building in that particular busy area it is very essential

Hajj Camp,an adaptive community space

Academic Project (Ctg,Bangladesh)

Software used: AutoCAD, SketchUp,Vray & Photoshop

Here the project is more of an adaptive urban intervention rather than a simple complex. The one of the most important religious occation for Muslims is Hajj. For this ritual every year the pilgrims go to Macca to attend a ceremony. For that particular reason they nedd very specific training to reduce the changes of accidents,as death is not umcommon there. According to that every Islamic ountry has the Hajj Camp to train the pilgrims.

Site Analysis:

The project is located in Chittagong,Bangladesh. However the site is highly densed with low income residential area, with a few commercial buildings. The road connection is sufficient due to the highway alongside the site. The residential part is mostly connected with the site with secondary or tertiary roads. The abandone site of previous Hajj camp is still serving as a community playground,so the accessibility to the site with the community is already enough but undefined.

Design Concept:

Project Focus:

- Rethinking the concept of a temporary camp

- A project that would serve beyond the purpose

- Giving multiple uses to a seasonal vacant space

Flexibility is the term for designating at abstract level the propertyof dwellings and residential buildings which can be adapted to the dynamic process of habitation”. “Flexible architecture consists of buildings that are designed to respond easily to change throughout their lifetime”. “Flexible buildings are intended to respond to the changing situationsin their use, operation or location.” “A broad definition of flexible buildingis building that can adjust to changing needs and patterns, both social and technological.

The section is mainly portraying the scenerio Hajj period. The open space with the adaptive reuse concept can have the temporary dorms for the tiem being.Eventually after the Hajj period the open space can again turn into the communits gathering space

9 months during Hajj period

As the open space has been divided into different type of surfaces. The hard space is mostly dedicated for ttemporary changes. The green and soft pave is permanent, but can easily merge with the seasonal changeing of the whole complex.
