HOUSING ON TORONTO`S MAIN STREETS 2008 BARUCH ZONE

Conforming to OBC regulations, we designed a mixed use building to accommodate retail and living space. Assigned the area of a parking lot and restricted by zoning regulations, this was the final product of my concepts. The designs included copper and metal cladding and used colours that blend to its surrounding context -- this would attract others, allowing them to enjoy and appreciate the architecture.

HENRY MOORE

SCULPTUREGALLERY 2009 JOHN INGR AO

Based on a concept of a revitalized waterfront plan, I designed a museum dedicated to Henry Moore to display his works. In compliance to OBC and zoning regulations and able to come up with this elaborate design. My concept includes a double skin system, using wood and perforated metal.

Preventing excessive lighting which is significant when dealing with artefacts’, the design also incorporates two open atriums that allow for natural light. However it would be diffused to soften its brightness. The first floor also includes an arcade, open for visitors to access the lower level which accommodates a cafÊ and lobby. The building is also primarily glass; allowing for outsiders to view the inside, heightening their curiosity.

LIVE+WORK CUBE 2006 FRANK HAMILTON

This project required me to design a living space while restricted to dimensions of 5 x 5 meters. With the given parameters I designed personal living spaces with emphasis on creativity. The designs included pockets of openings to allow sunlight while casting shadows under the levels, hence creating a perfect balance of shadow and light.

325 MAGAZINE

The 325 magazine, in its second year of publication displayed works of students from first through fourth year. It illustrated the capabilities and expression of the Architecture students through new means. I provided extensive contribution to the design and layout of the publication. 2008-2009

This project asked that we briefly step into the broader scope of design in entering Dimension’s Extreme Redesigns competition which encourages us to consider innovation and aesthetics for any product. Simultaneously we must remain sensitive to facets of design that architects must always consider including materiality, ergonomics, assembly, functionality and sustainability.

ROCKEFELLER

CENTER PROPOSAL 2009 IAN MACBURNIE As part of an urban planning project, a proposal was created to reenvision a master plan for the Rockefeller center in New York City. However, there was one catch – it had to be through the eyes of the firm, FOA. Thus, a team of five design students began intensive case studies of FOA’s manifesto, design techniques and graphical processes. An appropriate reaction to the site, which plays an integral part in New York, could finally be made through such research.

TOWARDS ILLUMINATION 2010 VINCENT HUI

This project paired two students to design lighting control elements for a preordained light fixture. Using elements of graphic design, we were to create a one page instruction sheet for external parties to understand the iconic and procedural nature of the design. Partners were expected to pre-fabricate the elements necessary for the production of a single light and include the necessary elements with an instruction set in a single envelope.

aurabox The idea of modular pieces was inspired by folded objects. Combined flower petal + folding pieces that once put together, looked like a large paper origami crystal

funnel Origami is seen in many places from simple paper decorations to architectural inspirations. We wanted to apply the similar idea into an every day lamp. We considered materials, minimum waste of material, lighting conditions and form. We designed a lamp for an appreciation of origami and its use in different mediums.

prototype Form and Light We wanted to create a lamp that was asymmetrical and creates a variety of silhouettes. This would mean that when a person passes by, they would see a different shape. Our lamp has three prong-like features that extrude towards the ground. The light funnels its way down the three prongs with no openings to create a glowing ball-effect that has a perfect light condition distributed evenly, perfect for any living space.

7 production To recreate their own aurabox lamp, two 18x32 inch translucent acrylic sheets are needed. The thickness can vary,1.5 mm thickness is preferred for maximum light.

FABRICATION 2010 BARUCH ZONE

The basis of this project was to design a chair for personal use for travel. The chair was to be light, in terms of weight, compact, in its ability to collapse [or disassemble] and fit within a travel size backpack.

The chair was to incorporate an amount of plywood as part of the design proposal with at least one other material being utilized in the final design. The chair was to be able to fit in a travel size backpack and weigh no more than 2.84kg.

SADR CITY

BUILDING BLOCKS FOR PEACE 2010 IVAN MARTINOVIC

Our thesis consisted of selecting a city based on the Silk Route. I chose Baghdad, Iraq as my destination. The idea was to focus on and develop a necessary infrastructure within the city based on its living conditions and circumstances. I proposed the idea of an elementary school for both genders.

During my research on Islam, there was a difference of relationship between men and women between culture and religion. In the Arab nations, men appear superior. Religiously, no one claims power over the other but promotes equality.

The school itself will incorporate a dormitory, a clinic, a roof garden and a mosque. With emphasis on the education of the students, it is necessary to provide them with living space and proper medical care and security. Lack of vegetation is also a concern in the area; hence a rooftop garden to provide for the students and teach them how to sustain vegetation is also very significant. Roof garden
