Farfetch Fashion Blogger Style Profile:
Marie Hindkær Wolthers
From Scandinavian cafes, Scandi-style nurseries, minimalist interiors and the onward success of Scandi stores on the British high street, Scandinavian style is on the up and up and bringing a fresh air of cool across all areas of stylish living that we just can’t seem to get enough of. So, naturally, we were pretty excited when Blame it on Fashion’s Marie Hindkær Wolthers, agreed to share details of her personal style. Marie lives in Coppenhagen, loves Parisian style and rocks a contemporary and simplistic style, with enough Scandinavian inspiration for us to us to be in awe of her cool. Read on to find out more about Marie’s personal style…
How would you describe your style? A mix of high and low pieces. I like to think of my style as being effortless, contemporary, Scandinavian, often with a boyish twist. I love playing with textures and silhouettes.
What are your go to pieces? How do you style them? When in doubt, wear high waisted denim or an A-line miniskirt, and keep it simple by adding a loose shirt or a high neck top. Another go-to-piece of mine is the striped sweater. It’s such a classic and works with pretty much everything. What is your absolute favourite item in your wardrobe? A patchwork-like Louis Vuitton bag that makes even the simplest outfit stand out. I especially love wearing it with denim or a plain jumpsuit. What do you believe to be your first true fashion purchase? What made you buy it? A pair of Chanel peep-toe boots that I got myself the first time I visited New York about 12 years ago. I’d seen them at the show, and the moment I tried them on I knew I couldn’t leave them behind. They totally ruined me, and even though I ended up wearing them only a few times they were worth it.
Who do you look to for style inspiration? I get most of my inspiration from catwalk images and street style. Or simply by browsing through my favourite online stores. I’m very focused on details and textures, and I love a contrasted outfit, like pairing your Converse with a girly dress or your boyish jeans with heels and a feminine blouse. Why do you think style is important? Fashion reflects society while style reflects personality. Great style can be many things – it’s not about following trends, it’s about discovering who you are and what suits you. To me feeling confident in what I wear is key to great style. Who is your favourite designer? Nicolas Ghesquière. I loved him at Balenciaga but I love him even more at Louis Vuitton. Also Phoebe Philo because of her minimalist aesthetic and tonal colour palette, and Jonathan Anderson who gave Loewe a total makeover. Does being a fashion blogger impact the way you dress? Definitely. I love to inspire others, and being a fashion blogger surely makes me think more about how I dress. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel and I like my style to be wearable and accessible. If you want to succeed and inspire as a fashion blogger I think it’s important to be authentic. What trends are you adopting this season? I love this season’s off-the-shoulder tops and dresses. It’s such a cool way to show a little skin. Also I can’t resist voluminous sleeves and ruffles.
Do you plan your wardrobe in advance for each season? And if so, how do you go about planning it? I do a lot of trend and shopping guides for my website and therefore research the trends in advance of a new season. I don’t make myself a shopping list but it helps me locate my favourite trends and pieces. I usually update my wardrobe with a few statement pieces that works with what I’ve already got in my closet. And then new shoes. Have any a/w 16-17 trends caught your eye as of yet? The puffer jacket will take over from summer’s bomber jacket as the must-have outerwear piece, which is not a bad thing when you live in the cold north. Also velvet and high-rise finishes will be huge next season.
How do you style a look for a special occasion? Do you start with a 'look' in mind, or do you style your look around a key piece? Most times I style my look around a key piece that I’ve decided to wear for the occasion. It can be a dress or a skirt, or even a pair of shoes. I recently went to ELLE Style Awards here in Copenhagen, and my look actually started with a pair of silver statement earrings by Marni. I was supposed to wear something completely different but then I got the earrings, and ended up changing the entire outfit because of them. Which fashion city do you think is the most stylish? Which city best represents your style and why? Paris! Parisians dress so well. I find New York to be more inspiring but I still think Paris is the most stylish city because of its elegance, cultural heritage and beautiful architecture. Copenhagen represents my style very well. It’s simple and Scandinavian with an edge. What's your thoughts on heels and flats? What kind of girl are you? I used to wear sky-high heels all the time but now I prefer flats or a walkable 5-6 centimetre heel for every day. Becoming a mother has definitely made me dress more comfortable and when living in Copenhagen you walk and bike a lot. However when going out I love to put on a proper heel. What's on your fashion wish list at the moment? Mainly shoes. My next purchase will either be a pair of pointed Proenza Schouler heels or rounded Aquazurra pumps. On my wish list I’ve also got Loewe’s Puzzle bag and the classic black sandals by Hermes.
Where do you love to shop? I shop pretty much everything online or when travelling. I used to live in London and alongside Paris it’s my number one shopping destination. What is the best style advice you have ever been given, read or heard? Coco Chanel once said that it’s always better to be underdressed. I totally agree. She also said that before leaving the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off. I keep that in mind when in doubt if I’ve accessorized a little too much. As a personal style blogger, what words of wisdom would you share with other fashion lovers? Be genuine and have fun.

Alex Guiterrez
New to the blogging scene and as enthusiastic as ever, meet up and coming fashion blogger Alex, from Fashion Love Alex. He calls his readers ‘Lover’s’ and has a passion for fashion comparable to Anna Dello Russo. Alex shares his love for fashion and his approach to blogging. Read on to find out how Alex is navigating the blogosphere…
How long have you been blogging? This is a tricky question, because, I started blogging when I was in high school, it wasn’t a fashion blog, but still it was blogging or at least I think it was. I started with fashion blogging about two years ago, in December 2013, with a post that today will be hilarious.
How would you describe your blog? My blog is all about myself, it could be described as a diary, sort of. Sometimes it gets too personal and too deep and a little bit weird to be honest, but I like to connect with people, so I think it’s ok. How would you describe your style? I think my style is very weird, maybe I would describe it as “Alex’s style”, because I wear everything I love, whether it’s a trend or not. I love trends, but I like to combine different things.
Does having a blog have any impact on the shopping choices you make? Of course!! I shop trying to think about a possible post, either for inspiration or to show people how I style the ítems I have purchased.
What three words do you think best describe the blogging community? Crazy. Bold. Passionate. Who are your favourite bloggers/Influencers at the moment? I’m obsessed with Chiara Ferragni. Of course I love Bryan Boy. He was my main inspiration for starting my blog. For style inspiration, I go to Prince Pelayo for a more casual look and Susie Bubble for something a little crazier….I forgot Anna Dello Russo too. What do you think you offer to the bloggersphere that is different to what other bloggers offer? My sense of humor of course!! I’m just kidding. I talk to my readers as if they were my friends. They know many things about me, and I like that. I also think my readers appreciate that I don’t flatter brands just because they’re big. For example, I love Chanel, but if there’s a collection that I am not a fan of, I will say it. I like to be honest and I think my “lovers” like that. You blog in both Spanish and English - how do you decide when to use which language? Which do you prefer writing in? Well, I have to be honest here, I started my blog in English and then I decided to translate what I was writing into Spanish, because it’s my mother language and I love it. Writing in English allows me to connect with people from all around the globe. Recently, I’ve been creating video content in Spanish, but I enjoy writing in both languages, maybe a little more in Spanish - because I’m a pro! How important do you think it is to blog in English? Whether you are from Brazil or Japan, blogging in English is a good way to start. Like I said, you can reach more people and become more global.
What do you enjoy most about being a blogger? The idea of being read by other people and my readers enjoying the time they have spent on my blog. I love to write and I like when people like what I have written. Also, I love the idea of inspiring people, I feel like I am helping them in some way. I know I’m not ending hunger, but I like that feeling. What would be your dream brand collaboration? Though it’s almost impossible, I would love to work with my favourite brand, Chanel! Although he’s not a brand, I would love to work with Hedi Slimane too. Why do you love Farfetch? Because of the whole idea behind the Brand! I love the concept, the aesthetic and the site!
