Arts for all ages flourish in Waseca.

The Waseca Art Center is home to the Waseca Arts Council Inc., and offers the opportunity for all people to understand and value the arts. Through exhibits and various programs, the center presents a welcoming and diverse experience that encourages questioning, creativity and critical thinking.

The center has been in its current location — in a historic building on the corner of North State Street and Second Avenue NE in downtown — since early 2013. Jess Stuckmeyer is the director of the center. Hours are currently limited to 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesdays and noon-7 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays.

The Waseca Art Center has two galleries: the Lobby Gallery and the Pat Beckmann Gallery. These galleries change monthly. Visit the center’s website at wasecaartcenter.org for a complete list of 2023 exhibits, events and shows.

Art classes are provided for both children and adults, including painting, drawing and much more. Guest speakers, as well as intimate concerts, plays and readings are featured at the Art Center. The center also features a gallery, gift shop and basement classroom space.

The center is staffed by volunteers. Admission is free, though there is a fee for classes. For more information, call 507-835-1701 or visit wasecaartcenter.org. Other arts and entertainment opportunities

• Concerts by the Waseca Chorale. • Waseca Junior-Senior High School band, choir and drama performances throughout the school year. The Performing Arts Center at the school hosts student concerts and community events. • Musical acts are often performed throughout Waseca’s bars and outdoor venues. • Soapbox races, introduced during the sesquicentennial, hosted by the Tuscan Lodge. The organization is planning to make it an annual event.
